March 2009 Rads Group?

Options

I haven't seen a group posted yet, so I figured I'd go ahead and start it.

I have my last chemo in a couple of days, then start rads probably th second week of March (don't have the date yet). I've done the simulation and have the tattoos--all set there. They're planning 45 doses (f5X/week X 7 weeks) of which five will be boosts.

Who else is on this train?

    Here's my ticket....

Just been waiting for a group -- I finished chemo on 2/4 and am scheduled for rad simulation on 2/27.  Not sure, but I think 33 doses (don't trust my memory from pre-chemo visit) and starting probably second week of March also (depending on the simulation, etc). Got a couple camisoles, some big baggy expendable t-shirts, some Jean Cream and oil (E?).  Plan to work from home during treatments.

                       All Aboard!!

I'm on board!!!!  Finished my chemo in December, had my mastectomy in January, and have my appointment with the radiologist today, so I'll be starting probably next week.  Don't know yet how many or how long.  I'll find out today, I guess.  Had a PET scan yesterday.  Anxious to find out the results of that.  My mastectomy revealed 5 out of 15 nodes cancerous, also a mass that was wrapped around one of the shoulder nerves.  Surgeon had to cut the nerve, so having trouble with my arm.  Dreading the radiation more than any of the past stuff!!!!  Just tired of it all, I guess!

Thanks for starting the group. I'm on board too. I'm scheduled for simulation on March 5. At that point I expect to find out whether I'm in for 6 weeks or whether a 3 week course might be suitable for my situation. I expect to start radiation around March 16.

I had my last chemo last week and am still recovering from that. I'll continue Herceptin through and past radiation.

ReneeS --I see you have site on Caringbridge...I will  go visit.  My friend set up one for me.  It has been awesome for keeping family and friend up to date.

I am in too - finished chemo on 1/30, and have my simulation tomorrow.  Should start the first week of March.  I have a question for you all - my onc wants me to start tamoxifen now, but the rad onc wants me to wait til after rads.  what are other folks doing?  Samantha

I went for my first consult with the radiologist today and have my simulation tomorrow.  I'm taking Arimidex now, Samantha, and he didn't say anything pro or con about taking that.

This guy wants to do hyperthermia along with the radiation.  It means that they heat the skin up before radiating.  Since my tumor had spread and broken through the skin, he feels that the skin needs a lot of the treatment to prevent cancer returning there.  Has anyone heard of this treatment and the effects of this?  Cora

    Hello LadyB! Welcome aboard!

I'm not sure exactly when I will start, either--hopefully the 9th or so. Supposed to hear next week.

You and I seem on somewhat the same timeline--I was diagnosed and had surgery in Sept, started chemo in Nov, and here we are with rads in March... Worst winter of my life so far, I have to say...

But we've got a gret group here and we will get through this together!

    Hugs

I couldn't agree with you more.  It has been a rough winter.  We will be a good team.  I'm ready - just want to get through this.  Glad to be part of the group!

    Hi Ladies,

I had my stimulation and looks like I will be having 33 treatments. 28 regular & 5 booster.  Was anyone told not to wear deodorant during treatment?

Diane--Yes, I was told that--also only certain lotions. It has something to do with the aluminum chloride (in teh deoderant) and the alcohol in the lotions (dries the skin more). There are some deoderants with a pink ribbon on the package that are supposed to be OK. I'm thinking about just going for the crystal ones.

Anyone told specific brands? I think Tom's is one....

    LadyB,

You gave me a chuckle about the rough winter since I see you are from St. Petersburg.  I am only laughing because I am much further south in Florida (Estero, between Naples and Ft. Myers) and I agree,we have had a rough winter....................for us.  I know our midwest and Canadian sisters are probably laughing hard enough to wet their pants.  But you and I know what we are talking about.  If it isn't in the high 70's I get chilled.Wink   And this bald noggin hasn't helped.

I'm on board too. Just waiting for a fluid drainage problem from January surgery to resolve. Setup is first week of March. Proposed 33 treatments. I have signed all the papers about the side effects. Also bought some super-loose camis to wear next to my skin.

Hoping for not too much redness as my wedding is on March 28. My dress should cover most of it.

whew - had my simulation on friday, and am starting tues the 24th.  a little quicker that i thought!  i have 33 sessions planned.  went shopping today for aquaphor, corn starch, and aloe gel.  i am really hoping to keep my life as normal as possible - chemo wasn't too rough on me, so i kind of feel like radiation is going to kick my butt.  i also have a pretty bad cold, with total laryngitis.  will this have any effect on starting rads?  i know i always had to let the onc know if i was sick at all - not sure about rad onc.

also, how the heck do i get my dx info as a signature?  i am not so good at computer stuff!

Go to the tab at the top of the page that reads My Home and click on Edit My Profile.  Correct me if I'm wrong ladies but unless your blood counts are low you should be okay starting on the rads.

    Hi

I'm on board too. I had my last taxol on 11 Feb. Will get marked up this friday 27th and first session 5 March for 25 times.

Bette: Congratulations on your wedding. Wonderful news to hear!

Sam: go to My Preferences at the top right hand corner of the screen and fill in your dx info. I think they will then prompt u to ask if you want it to appear as your signature. (ps. I am Samantha too!)

I have been on the Chemo Sept board, although I am one of the quieter members. They have become a comforting part of my journey, just like I know you all will be.

I go for my planning/consult for radiation therapy (TR) on 2/26/09.  Finished chemo on 2/9/09: 4 rounds of A/C and 4 rounds of Taxol.  Had modified radical mastectomy of right breast.  3/22 nodes and the final pathlogy report showed quite a bit of cancer action at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock of the DCIS, IDC and lobular variety.  So that's why they want to do rads.  I'm flat as a board and can't imagine how they do it.  Of course, this seems like the worst of the treatments in the sense of being struck by lightening EVERY DAY  for however long. Worried about side effects.  went back to work in late September after a late Auguest surgery and made it nearly to Christmas.  Went on medical leave in January (through March) and imagine I will need to extend it through the radiation.  I am so busy with 3 school age children (5,8,13) and newly retired husband (62) that it has hit me like a ton of bricks that I cannot do everything anymore and I do not WANT to do everything.  I have been home here teaching and training this household how to pitch in their reasonable share of householding.  They are learning and it's making us closer as a family.  I would like to be in the March rads group. I've been a silent onlooker since my diagnosis on 8/5/08.  I am 49 years old.

Sam (Singapore) & Robin - Good to see you here. I am meeting with a radiologist on Wednesday, so this is the group for me!

For everyone else, nice to meet you all! Turns out my last Taxol was 1/30. I only did 8 out of 12 because the neuropathy was too bad.

    Hugs! Kiss

Disappointing news. I have to have another surgical drain placed tomorrow, so my 3/4 simulation is off. I am on hold with rads until the drain comes out.

it's good to meet you all - will see if i can get the dx part to work.

juli, i also finished taxol on 1/30 - i did 11/12 b/c my mouth sores were too bad!

bette - so sorry you have to have another drain - those are not fun at all, i know.

    hello to the other sam!

my first rad day is tomorrow - don't know what my levels are, no one has looked at them since 2/5.  i know my onc had said they don't like you to start til your levels are up, but didn't check them again, and the rad onc didn't mention it at all.  should i say anything tomorrow?  or just jump in and get this thing started?

would also like to try to post a pic - i love seeing all yours.  will work on that tonight, too!
