From what I'm hearing about the loan money: You'll have to qualify for it. What a novel idea. So people can't get their loans modified unless they're employed and will still be able to afford the payments after its modified.
There's been a large problem with people going through double foreclosures. So those who lost their jobs are out of luck, or still won't qualify because of low pay. I hope they keep to this plan because we'll be reading about foreclosures for the next 10 years. Also from what I'm reading $75 Bil is just a drop in the bucket.

Well at least its for people who actually get off their lazy butts and work. I'm so tired of lazy people living off the other people's money. But what do you bet that that will be changed to include welfare bums by the time its finally passed by Congress. They've put Fannie and Freddie back in the game and they are part of what got us into this mess in the first place.
Has anyone seen the latest on Octuplet Mom out shopping for expensive makeup and getting manicures. Wow, amazing what you can afford living off welfare. And here her state is going broke. I wonder why.

Wholesale inflation takes biggest jump in 6 months
Wholesale inflation jumps by largest amount in 6 months, reflecting higher energy costs
- Martin Crutsinger, AP Economics Writer
- Thursday February 19, 2009, 8:53 am EST
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Inflation at the wholesale level surged unexpectedly in January, reflecting sharply higher prices for gasoline and other energy products.
The Labor Department said Thursday that wholesale prices increased by 0.8 percent last month, the biggest gain since last July and well above the 0.2 percent increase that economists had expected.
The acceleration was led by a 3.7 percent surge in energy prices with gasoline prices jumping by 15 percent, the biggest gain in 14 months.
Even outside the volatile food and energy sectors, wholesale prices showed a bigger-than-expected increase, rising by 0.4 percent. Economists had expected a slight 0.1 percent rise in so-called core inflation.
Food prices were well-behaved last month, falling for a second straight month. The 0.4 percent decline in January reflected lower costs for beef and dairy products which offset gains in the price of vegetables and chicken products.
In addition to the big jump in gasoline costs, prices for home heating oil were up by 5.4 percent and liquefied petroleum gas, which is often used to heat homes in rural areas, surged by 20.2 percent, the biggest jump in more than six years.
Outside of food and energy, there were increases for pharmaceuticals, light trucks and passenger cars and civilian aircraft.
Despite the big jump in wholesale prices in January, economists do not believe inflation is on the verge of becoming a problem, given the country's deep recession.
That downturn, which began in December 2007, has been keeping a lid on inflation pressures, which has given the Federal Reserve the room to slash a key interest rate to nearly zero without having to worry about kindling inflation.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told an audience at the National Press Club on Wednesday that he saw little risk that the Fed's efforts to fight the recession and a severe financial crisis would trigger inflation presusres.
He said that once the economy begins to rebound and financial markets stabilize, the Fed will be able to quickly reverse the actions it has taken before inflation becomes a problem.
-
Yes, I know the article says that 'economists' think this is just an anomalie and are still predicting a recession but so far they haven't exactly been Einstein's on this economy. IMHO, get ready for this trend to continue. You can't print money at will to cover large debt and not make that very currency worthless. Inflation is coming so do what you can to prepare. I think the Fed has lost control of the situation. Bernanke is no Greenspan.
-
We know this trend will continue. Some recession this is with prices going up. Isn't it suppose to work the other way? What do we know about a recession anyway? We had it good till the Dems took over the Congress and poof, happy days are all gone. Sing it Barbra.
So let me think this out some, people will have less money to buy stuff that suddenly costs more. Reminds me of those Carter days.
-
It is unusual to have a recession and inflation at the same time. The last time we had "stagflation" was in the mid-seventies when Carter was president.
-
Hi, I don't mean to interrupt but I just wanted to ask why your posts are being deleted by the community? Are you guys mad at each other? You seem to get along here and not fighting so I guess I am missing something?
thx
Ps Daisy, yes, I did see. If bad things keep happening in the economy I will probably start a Democrats Who Dislike Obama thread!
-
The posts that are being deleted are in no way offensive either. I just don't get it. I would never delete someone's post even if I did not agree with what they had to say - everyone has a right to their opinion. Some people need to get a life and grow up!
-
Pretty soon this political corner here will be all forgotten except for us hardcore politico junkies. Maybe some others will stumble upon us by accident when they look for active topics. I'm thinking its time to move on to a more open politcal site. I like it when lots of others join in.
-
hey and i'm still just trying to figure out exactly what the mods function is. i know what it's supposed to be but it's getting confusing. posts mysteriously disappear without explanation, questions go unanswered and the rules keep changing that is if you can figure out what they are. and the double sidedness is strange. shouldn't the same rules apply for all threads?
-
I think this line of questioning will lead to further admonishment and any issues with posts removed should be referred to the moderators. It is their perrogative to admin the board as they see fit whether we agree with the decisions or not.
Let's get back to discussing the issues of the day, what do you say?
-
I really didn't intend my last post to be a thread killer or to be a busy body, telling others what to post. I realize that circumstances can lead to frustrations. But the thing I've learned is that you cannot control what other people do or how they act. You can only control how you react or respond. What good does it do to let the actions of others pull you into a response that will only hurt yourself. The best revenge in any situation in life is to succeed, especially when it is what is least hoped for by those who oppose you.
-
I wonder how the woman who thought she was going to get a free house and a free car is taking this? That's right, 'elect Obama and I'll never have to worry about my house or car payment again.' Of course, that's still a possibility before its out of Congress but let's hope not. I see a revolution brewing if this does come to pass. Enough is enough.

I am at a complete lost today.........I see the country that I LOVE being "changed" into a country I no longer recognize.......How can one man and one Democrat congress change our beloved country into some kind of race baiting, hateful, punish the successful, punish the productive, punish the very people that make this country the greatest country in the world? Yesterday the Attorney General of the United States called me a coward.......excuse me.........(the very man that let Mark Rich go that owed our country millions of dollars) (if we had collected that money wonder how many poor minority families that would have housed, feed, provided medical care for.....hmmmmmm).........really so Eric Holder called me a coward......really as a single mom raising two daughters by myself.............working straight for the last 18 years at the same job..........surviving breast cancer (so far)............doing dose dense chemo for 5 months and missing 8 DAYS of work during that time........really I am a coward.............having 33 radiation treatments and never missing one day of work..........I am a coward...........I am a coward because I believe no matter what race you are you can achieve anything in this country if you work hard enough..........I don't see Oprah not achieving her goals because she is black.......I don't see Connie Rice not achieving her goals because she is black.........in fact I don't see Obama not achieving his goals because of the color of his skin............and come to think of Attorney General Holder I don't see you not achieving YOUR GOALS because you are a black man.......how dare you you pompous a**............the next time you are a single mom that has cancer and struggling to provide shelter, clothing, and food for her children (that by the way are my responsibility and not anyone else's)then let's discuss what real courage is why don't we?
-

OMG - shokk - that was great! Thanks for sharing...I would love to sit next to Rick on an airplane...an 8 hour flight would do it!
Been busy all day...and now off to dinner with my Illinois survivor group. Fun, Fun! And I just may have a GIGANTIC glass of wine! Cheers!
-
Guess I better turn on the news and find out what this "nation of cowards" thing is all about. Without knowing the details, I can't help but wonder what the Attorney General is spouting off about. Isn't his office supposed to be about upholding the law? I didn't know he was a race relations spokesman.
I watched the Santini (sp) video. If I refinanced my home at today's interest rates, my monthly mortgage payment would go down $200. I think I could probably stimulate a little spending with that. Maybe even buy some heating fuel. Except, you can no longer get stated income home loans ... so, this poor little girl is outa luck! Yep .. this credit crisis destroyed my ability to refinance or even get another mortgage if I needed to move.
There are two different kinds of stimulus being offered for the housing mess. I guess I better go read up on the two plans.
-
Apparently, the Attorney General is not happy that races can work together, go to school together but then go their separate ways on the weekend. I don't know - went out last Saturday to an upscale bowling/bar. I saw quite a few mixed race groups bowling and having drinks together. Maybe it is different in Washington??? Why he is calling everyone cowards I don't know. Didn't someone get a lot of flack for calling us a nation of whiners??
-
shokk you should send your post to every newspaper there is.

Arthur Neville Chamberlain (18 March 1869 - 9 November 1940) was a British conservative politician and Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1937 to 1940. Chamberlain was forced to resign the premiership on 10 May 1940, after Germany invaded the Netherlands, Belgium and France. He was succeeded by Winston Churchill but remained very well regarded in Parliament.
-
Did any of you see Mark Haines CNBC meltdown today? It was great. He is totally fed up with the rescue of the 8% of the people who don't pay their mortgage paid for by the 92% of those of us that do. He got going and he just "lost it". He stood in front of the "pit" and asked (in my words) who thinks "Obama's plan stinks" and all those folks raised their hands....it was one of the most honest and spontaneous events I've seen in a long time. He said Obama and the Dems don't get it that "Wall Street, is nothing more than Main Street" and the falling Dow is Main Street's reply to Obama. I sure hope he still had a job tomorrow.
This is my first time to this forum, and I am so glad to find it. At one point in the election I was almost seduced by Obama.
-
Daisy and NYCarol check my last post (the youtube video)..........Shokk
-
So I was listening to the Dennis Miller show tonight and he made the comment that for every two citizens that one of the citizens would be taking care of themselves and one other citizen according to the stimulus bill..........he said instead of it being like a "secret Santa" it would be a "secret sharer".............hmmmmmm..........well my secret sharer sure hope they have a "handicap" parking sticker cause I sure do need one............Shokk
-
You can get mental parking handicap sticker?..........WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO.......I shouldn't have any trouble in getting one of those.........Shokk
-
Yep Laura you get the gold star for identifying the invisible portrait!
