C'mon, Laura, a "clean Chicago polititian". Isn't that an oxymoron? Burris is a snakey as the rest of them, he just has a nicer smile.

Rosemary, the thing that you do not understand, and anyone else outside of Illinois is that Blago really does believe he is innocent, because he has not done anything any differently that any other Illinois pol. They all make these deals. This is how they get elected. This is how they keep power, and this is how they legislate. As I said before, there is only one party, the crook party. Sometimes guys will call themselves Republicans to get elected in more conservative areas of the state, but they all vote the dem line, tax and spend. Look at the "Republican" in Obama's cabinet (transportation). His buddy is a guy named Cellini who is now in jail for bilking the state out of millions with his fat construction projects. Now they will do the same thing with federal funds that they do with Illinois funds: you get the contract as long as you can bring me the votes. Blago was just doing business as usual. Now the scumbags are in DC. They will redistrict and restructure to ensure they keep their power. They will buy votes with lucrative government contracts. Everyone blames Reid and Pelosi for all this porkulus bill, but Obama and Rhambo and Axelrod had a heavy hand in it, you can bet the house on it. Their first goal is not about taking care of the country, it is about solidify their power. That want all that pork so they can start buying votes with lucrative contracts. Then they can run the DC machine like they run the Chicago machine, and no one will be able to argue wit da boss!

Laura, the guys from second city were just on the news. They wrote a new musical "Rod Blagoivitch Super star". They were saying the funniest part is that they used a lot of blago's own words. They  said they will be doing an O musical in 6 months. THe broadcaster said you went really easy on BO the last time in "Between Barack and a Hard Place". They did not really answer is they will parody O the same way they do others.

Oh, now this is just proving my point. I turn on Fox News Sunday, and there is axelrod talking about all the construction jobs this bill is going to make (ie, all the new voters the dems will be putting in their column).

Why is it they build roads in Germany that last for decades? Why do they have bridges still standing all over Europe that have been there for hundreds of years?? Because they build them right the first time. Here they build them just good enough to keep enough people working on one road until it is time to go back to the road they just finished. They pour 4 inches of asphalt where they are contracted to pour 8 and when the inspectors show up they are paid off to measure in the one area where they did it legally. The potholes in Illinois are big enough this year to lose a couple of mini coopers. That's they way they like it. Lots of repair workers (er voters) will be out there all summer. As the saying goes, There are two seasons in Illinois; winter and construction.

Now the Ax is saying that Obama is planning on getting out to see the people every week because he needs to get out of the Washington bubble. BS! He needs to have his weekly dose of adoring throngs to keep the insane frenzy going so they will continue to BELIEVE in  their hopey changey Messiah. Plus, Barry and company love all the perks on AF1.

For sure I do not know anything about Chicago politics.  Thank you very much.  They would have chose someone anyway who was part and parcel of the crookedness that goes on there, Burris seems to be better then most.  Now if only he chose to fess up first, but then who would have looked at him?  We'll see how this plays out.

If I were a Senator or a Rep. what would I want to fund in the stimulus plan that could really get people working?  Let me think.  I know, I'd fund a data base for jobs.  People don't like to move too far away, so I'd fund it for all 50 States.  All the employers could put in the job requirements with an email address for replies.   For those who aren't computer savvy, have the job listings in welfare and unemployment offices.  Ok, so much for dreaming.

Okay - okay - I was cutting him some slack...probably NOT justifyably so...but you're right... knowing first hand about the Chi-Town Machine... he's probably just been lucky.

Oh that's great! I LOVE musicals!

As for "getting out to see the people"... Help Me! He needs to realize - you can run - but you can't hide. He needs to turn down the heat in the oval office, put on a suit jacket and do his job. Instead of going out and promoting his new movie...I'll say it again... he and covergirl are Hollywood wannabees.

AND...OMG - don't get me started on CON-struction here in the Land of Crooks! OMG - It's enough to drive a motorist ccccraaaaaaaazy! lol lol lol

The reason our roads last for only about a whole year is because IL law says the lowest bidder must be used...dah...well of course the lowest bidder is low because they use cheap/poorly made materials, un-trained workers, less pour, etc. How ridiculous is this!? When a road only lasts a whole year...why isn't the contractor held liable? Gee let me guess... because they bought their way into getting the project. If we started holding the contractors liable for their work, perhaps they would do the job right from the beginning. Yes... the project would cost more $$$, but in the long run, us tax paying chumps would be saving money by not having to repair it every year.

PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH... that's what the signs over our toll booths should read - now that blagos name is off of them.

I heard about Burris this morning and thought...here we go again.  Why can't PBHO find people besides crooks?  Oh, I know.  Some of them come from Chicago.  And some of them don't pay taxes.  And the honest one (Judd) stepped down because he doesn't agree with Obama's policies.  Furthermore, he found out that partisanship was still alive and well.  I can just hear Judd making suggestions and then being ignored AFTER the One says, I'll think about it.  LMAO!

Laura, there is cause for HOPE, the real kind, not the phoney oblahblah stuff. I just opened the trib nd they are saying, on the front page, that they are making a renewed committment to finding and reporting on corruption. Well, they should have been doing this for the past 150 years or so, but they got a little drunk on the Koolaid too in the past couple of years. Let's hope they continue this pledge all the way to the WH. The state is also trying to pass a bill with no more expensive signs with all those pols names on them. Wouldn't that be a nice relief of waste of tax dollars!

By the way, the first line of Blago-the musical:

    sung to the original score

"Rod Blagojevitch, superstar, are you as nuts as we thing you are?"

So Laura, do you want to get tickets and go see the show?? LOL

Reading this stuff just makes me fill yuckier.  Obama wasting money on AF1 campaigning.  He just can't stay out of the limelight.  And of course the dims will say he's connecting with the American people.  Wouldn't it be cheaper for TV to GIVE him a spot instead of screwing up our planet riding around in an airplane not to mention the cost of flying it.  I thought his number one woman, Pelosi, wanted to save the planet..OOPS!  Forgot.  Pelosi has her own private jet that we taxpayers pay for.  As I understand it she's the first speaker to have one.  I suppose so many people dislike her she's afraid to fly commercial.  LMBO!

Giving 8 bil to the UN Bank?  I'm still trying to digest that one.  UNBELIEVABLE!

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith

becomes an American and assimilates himself to us,

he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else,

for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man

because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American,

    and nothing but an American.

There can be no divided allegiance here.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.

We have room for but one flag, the American flag ...

We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ...

and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Just being nostalgic.  Worry about our country and where it's going.  Worry about my children and grandchildren.  Then I have to TRY to remember we're in God's hand.  That's a hard thing to remember.

    Shiley,

We found out is the last election, that the sentiments of the poem is not held by the "Followers". It was okay to attack a POW's age, his character, even his time as a POW.  Any thing said about him was OK,

It seemed anything was OK except saying anything about experience, policy, ideology, corruption, associations, drug use, or contradictions in words vs action.  They were all racist remarks.

Hey, Shokk-You didn't say you had relatives up North:

Caterpillar Troops Don't Back Stimulus, Says Rep. Schock by Elisabeth Meinecke (more by this author) Posted 02/13/2009 ET
    Updated 02/13/2009 ET
In a highly publicized visit to Caterpillar, Inc. Thursday, President Obama used some of his political capital to pressure freshman Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) in front of his constituents in a visit to the Caterpillar company in Illinois. Schock, who was invited to fly back to his district with Obama aboard Air Force One, came under fire from the president for opposing the stimulus package.

After asking Schock to stand up in front of the crowd, Obama let loose on the newly elected representative.

"Aaron's still trying to make up his mind about our recovery package," Obama told employees. "And so we know that all of you are going to talk to him after our event, because he's a very talented young man. I've got great confidence in him to do the right thing for the people of Peoria."

Schock, whose predecessor, Ray LaHood, is now Obama's secretary of transportation, said he waited around after the president's remarks, but not one Caterpillar employee approached him to ask that he vote for the bill.

"In fact, I have received over 1,400 phone calls, e-mails and letters from Caterpillar employees alone asking me to oppose this legislation," Schock said on the House floor Friday. "Why? Because they get it. They know this bill is not stimulus."

Schock urged a no vote and followed through this afternoon. He's clearly in touch with his constituents. Can Obama say the same?

    You are so right, IBC

I know if McCain had won the election this stimulus bull would be DOA.  Some of us say we're glad he didn't win.  I'm sad he didn't win.  We know how he hated PORK!  We KNOW how the ONE changes his mind as often as he changes his underwear.  I don't call that change..I call that lies.

Oh, I know you weren't a POW (I say I know).  However, it doesn't make one bit of differnce.  Any man or woman who's fought for our freedom has been through hell and back.  I'm getting tired of hearing, "I support the troops..but.."  Well the "buTTs" make it hard on our troops..their safety.  The "Butts" make our country look lie a bully.  The "Butts" make our country a less safe place to live.  The "Butts" are taking over and that scares the crap out of me.  It's time we regroup and kick their BUTTS out of office!

Just for clarification, as some misinformation has been posted here:

The World Bank has nothing to do with the UN. Totally separated, unrelated entities.

The World Bank is a multilateral development organization. Its capital comes from its shareholders, which are its 185 member countries, the US being only one of them. Each member country contributes capital in the proportion of the shares they hold, and each country's voting power is also proportional to its shares.

With this money coming from its shareholders (the United States and the remaining 184 member countries), the World Bank provides financial and technical assistance to developing countries. This is what the essence of a development organization is. Nothing to do with the stimulus package.

I have no idea if the United States is current in its payments due to the World Bank (if it has paid in full for the shares it subscribed) or if it is in arrears. What I know is that any payments from the U.S. to the World Bank (or to any other development organization, for that matter) result from the fact that the United States at some point in the past freely chose to become a shareholder, and this has nothing to do with the current administration.

Finally, this is not a case of the United States using tax dollars to support random countries out of the goodness of its heart, much less developed European countries. It is a case of the United States honoring its financial obligations with an organization it chose to be a member of. And that organization does not support European countries, unless of course you are thinking developing countries that happen to be in Europe. Not the same thing, not at all.

WASHINGTON (Reuters)- President Barack Obama's aides warned Americans on Sunday not to expect instant miracles from the $787 billion economic stimulus bill he will sign this week, but said it would help eventually.

Obama is due to sign the bill passed last week by Congress in Denver on Tuesday. It was the first major legislative victory of his young presidency, which could rise or fall with its success or failure.

"There will be signs of activity very quickly," David Axelrod, the White House senior adviser, said on "Fox News Sunday." "But it's going to take time for that to show up in the statistics. The president has said it's likely to get worse before it gets better."

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs used similar language on CBS' "Face the Nation."

"I don't think there's any doubt that we've seen this economy has gotten worse just in the last few months. The acceleration in job loss probably means that this economy is going to get worse before it gets better," he said.

Obama himself said last week that if he failed to heal the economy, he would be out of a job by 2012, when he faces re-election.

The White House hopes the package will save or create 3.5 million jobs. Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com, said on "Fox News Sunday" that was likely too optimistic.

    ////////////////////

It isn't signed yet and this group of ____________(fill in the blank) are backtracking.  Well, um, er, we never said it would do anything we said it would do.

Prass is full -- need to go empty the trash.
