Shirley, I think it is just a matter of time before more and more people really begin to see through this sham. I am willing to bet that the percentages go higher and higher of people actually researching this garbage they (and we all know who they are) come up with and the more people research, the more knowledge they have. Pretty soon the silver tongued ***** won't be able to pass anything along to the majority without it being tossed right back at him.Edited: Oh and I forgot...WHO WHO!

Paulette, I hope so. But even when people are calling and emailing their congressmen/women they're ignoring, it seems to me, the majority. So, then what do we do?

I just want to talk about the woman who wanted a kitchen --- she apparently was on disability for cancer, the article doesn't say she still is on disability --- so no way to know. I think the article would not say it was a "stint on disability due to cancer" if she was stage 4 ... Anyway, she didn't want a kitchen remodel .. she wants housing. She was homeless. They had a house and jobs. This is the sad reality of what's happening. Obama will not be able to fix this with a spending program. More and more people are going to lose homes unless the housing market stabilizes... that has to happen 1st --- records show that once we start to see equity build, the market builds. Even if the banks just do severe mods so people could stay in their homes, there would not be the despairing attitudes.

61-year-old homeless woman found a little help at President Obama's town hall meeting on Tuesday.
Henrietta Hughes, 61, of Fort Myers, asked Obama for a home during the question-and-answer segment of the meeting. She and her son, Corey, 37, became homeless last spring after moving from New York City.
When they couldn't find a job, they lost their home and were forced to live out of a car.
"We need our own kitchen and bathroom," she told the president. He said he would have staffers contact her after the event.
Instead, Chene Thompson, wife of state Rep. Nick Thompson (R-Fort Myers), offered her a home in LaBelle. Chene Thompson had purchased it in 2004, before she and her husband were married, she said, and she wasn't using it.
The couple can't live in the home, because it's out of her husband's district, she said.
"If I can give her a place to live even for one night, it's better than her car," Chene Thompson said.
Nick Thompson said the idea was his wife's, but that he supported it.
"This is why I married her," he said. "She has great instincts on doing the right thing."
Hughes left Harborside Events Center not only with the Thompsons' offer, but a handful of business cards. As she looks into putting a roof over her head, she's still eager to find work, describing her strengths as a secretary or file clerk.
When she couldn't find work last year, she began looking at fast food restaurants, she said. A disability stint, due to cancer, set her prospects back, she figured.
She had come to the area due to the expensive housing in New York, she said.
"So I borrowed quite a bit of money to come down to Florida," she explained.
Hughes applied for a job at a local hospital job, but was rejected after they saw her age, she said.
"He said, 'What's your age? How old are you,'" is how she characterized the interview.

From what I'm hearing about the new "health care" in the package is that a lot of us won't get coverage for diseases that won't keep us alive for more than 10 years. We'll be told sorry, you have this, but your life expectancy with this disease is only 8 years, so we can't treat you. Nice huh? Where's the AMA? Where's the outrage? Why are we now just hearing about this?
I assume it will be for medicare and medicaid insured. Can they force other insurers into this? Private insurance companies would love this. This somehow got past us.

I heard a doctor on Fox today talking about this...it's not good! I plan to take it to my doctor, my dentist, and may even send it to my onc. I'm mad as heck.
Rocky, I read over there what Amy posted bout this dear woman. I, however, posted Susie's article on the government running our health care telling docs what they could and couldn't do. This woman probably would not get treatment under those circumstances. We need to find a way to stand up against this.

The "health care" remarks are chilling. I repeated to my dermatologist today and he rolled his eyes. I was checking suspicious spots, aftr having surgery to remove a squamous carcinoma yesterday. Throwing good money after bad?
Here is my vision: Everybody on this board come stay with me. We go to Congress. We all lift our shirts ala Super Bowl commercial. We tell them what we expect from them~~~and it's not to go off and die.

I'm sure it will be used only with major diseases, such as a transplant?. I'm sure they don't mean cancer, or diseases like that? But who knows what fits into that guideline? This could be a huge problem for anyone. Now they're reading it? After it passed?

We have to find the pertinent parts of this package, and get a fuller idea of what fits this description of what and who won't get treatment. Does this mean if Specter has a relapse and because of his age and life expectancy, he'll be told to go home and come back for pain killers?
Why don't I think that will ever happen to him, but for us....

Rosemary, you're joking, right? In Oregon they didn't want a man to have chemo because his prognosis was five years or less. They sent him a letter offering him physician assistant suicide. Then Fox got wind of it and they gave him chemo. I believe this is already done in Europe.

Rock...about this woman in Florida? What is her 37 year old son doing? Or is there yet more to this story where he is concerned? I am just curious, is he not able to work? Is he disabled? Mentally, , physically? I would have to hear or I should say read the entire story, it just seems like there is more to it.

This whole medical thing p***** me off...good way to thin out the population especially at a time when the Boomers are retiring, aren't the Boomers the largest group of retirees to hit the SS system? How convenient, it smacks of BS.

What I got from that article was that if you were diagnosed with something that was considered terminal that you would not get treatment because it is too expensive. (Who knows if it is like Chicago - if you don't vote the right way you might not get treated). Same with the elderly - no treatment for age-related conditions. In Britain if you are elderly and have macular degeneration you have to go blind in one eye before they will treat you. This will discourage drug companies (at least here in the US) from developing new drugs. It will save the government money - less for research, drugs, etc. I am not sure if this was taken out of the bill that passed the Senate, but the House bill increased the funding for Medicaid and took out the income caps - another way to get stealth nationalized health care. Everyone would be eligible for Medicaid - can you see companies dropping their health plans and putting everyone on the government dole - would save them a bundle. The senators and congressmen are not worried - it will be like China - the government workers get organic food and the best of the best healthcare while the rest eat the poisoned food and will have to stand in line and wait to see if they "deserve" treatment. I am sure the drug companies in India will be more than happy to take up the slack - the rich can travel their for treatment.
Paulette - I had the same thought - how convenient - one way to reduce the SS rolls.

Suddenly third world nations do have better health care. Where's the ACLU, isn't this discrimination? This could even effect babies. Anyone, if their life expectancy won't be more than 10 years after treatment.
No one read that damn bill, not a soul. They would have talked about this, the outcry would have been monumental. It's in the bill, it wasn't taken out. I'm hearing this from a radio show. I forget his name, but he's doing a show on it tonight and he's besides himself. Michael Berry, he's doing the alert.

I am so glad that Olivia is home. Even if you're not 100% sure it's the right diagnosis, you may consider a possibility that her body was able to fight off whatever it was and is just taking time to recover. G-d willing you will have this scary episode behind you very soon

I agree with you that this story about us torturing that innocent man needs to be taken with the grain of salt. America is always blamed for everything. Frankly I don't even know how can we fight terrorists anymore. I heard a horrible story on the radio a few days ago. There was that Muslim woman recruiting female suicide bombers. To do so she would find a target , have men rape that poor woman and then suggest to her that in order to redeem herself and escape her shame she blow herself up along with other innocent people. How can we fight people with mindset I have no idea.
Gertner spoke today and so did the market. I woke up and saw Dow up 70 points or so. And then as soon as he spoke for 10 minutes, the market crashed 300 points. This is a really instant poll for you. Meanwhile Intel announced that they are investing 7 Billions dollars into building 4 new manufacturing plants and they don't care about stimulus package.

The year I had my bout with BC , I decided to give use CPA recommended by a friend (no offense Mr Spouse I am sure you are much much better) and she made so many mistakes that I refused to pay the bill since I had to do it from the scratch myself. The woman had MBA and 15 years of experience. AARgh. I don't like doing taxes and every year I try to get my DH to do it. But as soon as I bring up the subject, his IQ drops at least 50 points as he pretends he does not undertsand this stuff.

I just got off the phone with my Congresswomen. Yep, you heard me right. She does these phone call town hall meetings whenever there is a big issue and this is the third time I got called. Basically, you press a number if you want to ask a question and when it is your turn you get to ask. I never got to ask a question but it is great to listen in. She did a poll and 67% of the people taking part were against the spendulous bill. People were giving her an earful about how mad they are that everyone is getting bailed out except the average american. So at least I know my congresswomen is getting the message because my senators are total demwits.
Did you hear Schumer say he did not think the American people cared about pork in this bill. What planet is that guy from? Oh yeah, I remember now. That explains why he is so out of touch with the regular folk.

Regarding the medical thing --- the only thing I am for is the part about people being able to be insured!!! Reducing COBRA payments is fantastic thing!!!! Being able to keep that til you can get on Medicare -- fantastic!!
I hope you don't disagree with me !!! But FEAR of COBRA has kept me paying for my own insurance plans .. I didn't go with the company insurance because 'what if' you lose your job? How can anyone afford $800 a month? I cannot, never could. So, I purchased my own plan that I have paid extra for -- in order to have the freedom to change jobs or in the awful situation of losing my job. And then after 6 months you are forced off COBRA.

Rock...Cobra is longer than six months, it is 18 months and if you end up on SS you can get another six month extension until Medicare kicks in. (in the case of short term/long term disability from a job)

You guys, I can't tell you how angry I was last night watching "the one" run his mouth. I think what bothered me most is that, once again, he had to leave it all with a negative spin by badmouthing the "people who got us into this". He talks about working together and reaching across the aisle, then spends several minutes insulting the people he claims he is reaching out to. When I took public speaking classes and writing classes, it was stressed that using positive language is much more effective than negative language.
Oh, and the healthcare crap. Why don't they do something about the ridiculous prices drug companies are charging for these drugs? I understand the research and development is expensive, but why is it that one person can be charged, say, $3,000 for an AVASTIN tx and I'm charged $30,000 for the same thing? I've said it before: is one person really WORTH that much $$$ for a tx that isn't even a 50/50 shot at surviving? (I'm stage IV). Well, of course I don't want to die and my family would raisy holy h-e-double-hockey-sticks if I were suddenly denied tx because I have a poor progrnosis. I've already outlived the 2 years my first onc gave me. Does that mean I wouldn't get ANY tx? And, if you're going to deny sick people and seniors care, it doesn't seem like a great leap to me that they'd soon start interfering with pregnant women at risk for giving birth to "imperfect" children. Why don't they put some people to work ferreting out the huge percentage (I think I remember something like 40% but I could be wrong) of Medicare and Medicaid FRAUDULENT claims? That puts people to work and saves money, right? I'm not talking about denying actual patients care...I remember reading about doctors billing services for deceased or fictitous patients.
I could ramble on and on. I am so ANGRY about this stimulous bullcrap. These people that are packing the bill with pork have absolutely no concept of what it's like to live in the real world. They don't have to worry about healthcare. Granted, in a couple of years some of them could lose their jobs but then many end up with lucrative careers as public speakers, cabinet members, lobbyists, etc. Even the press is out of touch. I saw a segment on Good Morning America last week about a couple that are "victims" of the economic downturn. Husband had lost his job, but wife still had hers. Their income was down to 90k. They have had to quit going out to dinner every night and fire their personal trainer. MY HEART BLEEDS.

How else to you play golf if you do not walk. Oh I know in places like AZ it is hard because you sometimes have to drive around a mountain to the next hole, but if you ride in a cart, golfing is not exercise, it is simply swinging a big stick a few times. Besides I like to have time to check out all the flora and fauna. You can do it too Mr S. My DH walks the course every week(well except for in winter). Oh, and Mr. IBC, do you hire out? We could really use a good accountant.
