Paulette, thank you for posting that link.  I'm sitting here crying.  Can you believe a 60 year old father wanted to join the military to honor his fallen son?  President Bush found out that he's an orthopedic surgeon.  He said sometimes a waiver can be granted for a skill set like that.  He said when he got back to Washington the waiver was on his desk.  Lt. Commander Bill Krisoff (sp) is leaving for Iraq next week.  What a heart warming story!  This man could be sitting back in his recliner, playing golf, sailing, or whatever, but he choose to honor his son and use his skills.  I am in awe!

I hope anyone who reads about this father can see how AMAZING the American people really are.  We as a country are not mean.  There are mean people in this country, but don't let anyone ever tell you that America is mean.  Take up for our country.

DON'T FORGET.....Pelosi et al wants investigations into this administration.  The CIA will be scared to death to do their job if she et al gets their way.  Instead of worrying about the safety of our country, AND NOT IT'S NOT A SCARE TACTIC, they want an investigation?  They want to waste time and money when this economy is in the tank?  WTH!  Get over it..move on..MOVE FORWARD!

    Shirley

    Sherri,

But, the question begs to be asked, what was keeping you from it before?

I think the answer is obvious: Bush. They've spend so much energy hating him and Chenney they had none left for volunteering Smile

I was also upset by Lowry prayer: brown, yellow, and  the evil white. I thought we were supposed to strive to become a color blind society.

Meanwhile Apple just came out with the great results without a bailout. Apparently if a company has great products, people will buy it. Before the announcement , the analysts were predicting gloom and doom. And of course IBM did the same thing yesterday.  I am actually getting worried about too much government help that would deter rather than promote economic growth. We want new jobs in a private sector and not government.

As Reagan said "The government is not an answer to a problem, the government is the problem".

    Sherri,

I am sure Patterson told her he would not appoint her, too much pressure.  My opinion, the Chicago thugs continue the practice of destroying all they deem a threat.  It's not that Caroline is a direct threat, it is the dynasty of the Kennedy's and the Clinton's..  They do not want to be perceived as being less than or controlled by the two big families.  I will be curious how the feminist will take the savaging of another woman.  That is three for three on women being destroyed by the Party Machine.  If Patterson appoints Cuomo, a man, to a seat held by a woman, will the women of that party, ever stand up.

They're using Ted's health problems, but a sick uncle wouldn't keep me from fulfilling my dreams of public service.  She might have been pressured to go for the seat in the first place.  I hate to lose another woman in Congress.  No matter what side of the aisle they're on, they fight for our issues.  They become thicker than thieves, and no man dares stand in their way.

I think Paterson has a bigger problem now, if only the women will wake up.  Appoint another woman should be the mantra there.   There has to be another worthy woman somewhere in N.Y. State.

    Sherri,

Then Cuomo better start wearing panties and a bra to work and get in touch with his more feminine side.

I am not sure that Kennedy was a good candidate. She did not impress anyone during interviews, it's got so bad that she stopped giving them. People were openly questioning how she could have graduated from Haravard Law School. Some were even asking how did she get in the first place.

Her responses were peppered with "like", "you know" and others.

I want women to be in a position of poweer but ONLY if they  are qualified. I agree with Rosemary that they could have found another woman who would be truly deserving of this Senate seat.

Actually WSJ today had a list of few women who had great credentials for this job with vast experience in public service and records of getting things done.

I also wonder if the issue of having to reveal your personal finances was more than she was willing to do.  Some people are very private and if you are a private person then you don't belong in a public office where your every move and every aspect of your life is under scrutiny.

Did you guys see Hannity tonight? He had on Steele and that Kristin? the dem who was for Hillary. Even she said that she felt the big speech fell flat and commented that it was a shame he did not point to Bush's acheivements more and acknowlege how open Bush has been about the transition since he promised bipartisanship. She also mentioned the fact that Obo said he would not ignore the poor around the world and then she pointed out that Bush has helped the people in Africa and Asia more than any other president ever. This is coming for a dem? The truth? Do we see a chink in the armor?

Isn't Kristin sort of a moderate lib (dem)?  If she's the one I'm thinking about she's usually quite fair.  Aisle have to check Hannity out ($!)..I taped some of it.

I'm glad Caroline checked out.  I do wish another woman would get seated, but I'm afraid it will be Cuomo.  This ignorant, drama queen, troll would be glad to be seated.  But I don't live in N.Y. but neither did Hill.

I didn't watch Lowrey's opinion piece after the inaug.  I found it on YouTube and thought..WTH?  Rick Warren was 100% better.  You could tell when he prayed that he was praying EARNESTLY.  He mean what he was saying...not just a bunch of gobbledgook.

Inauguration cost is now $170 M.

By the bye, my town has been named the most-educated small town in America. Of course, it IS heavily Democratic.Wink

I heard last night the cost is closer to $195 million.  Will we ever see the full accounting?  I guess this will start the "how to top the last inaugural" in our future.

I'm happy to hear that there might be some pressure being put on Paterson to appoint a woman.  Someday we won't have to care about this.

Don't let the Long Island accent, or the characters she's played fool you, there is a lot more to Fran Drescher than you see at first glance.  She is a published author, and has been a staunch advocate for cancer research funding.

I lost respect for Caroline Kennedy's political expertise when she first jumped on the Obama bandwagon (paraphrasing) because her teenage kids told her about him and she wanted to encourage them.  A fifty year old woman should be doing her own research about a candidate for president, not just voting the way her kids who are too young to vote themselves want her to vote.

I was watching C-SPAN yesterday, and the ladies were debating the Lilly Ledbetter amendment.  She's the lady who sued her employer for unfair pay practices, and it went to the supreme court.  The court only looked at the date of her filing her lawsuit, and threw her case out.  She only had 180 days to file a complaint after she was first paid a lesser amount then her male counterpart.

Ridiculous, but that's our Court.  So Mikulski and Hutchison are doing the debating.  Both of them have good points about the amendment, but they also were touting each other as wonderful examples of what women in congress can do when they reach across the aisle to get things done.  I was impressed with their history together.  Now I don't want Hutchison to retire before her term is over.  We need her.

Anyway, the bill is being fixed.  I could see both sides had good issues, but I think the Hutchison plan won't make it, but that's ok because in either form, the employer is being given notice, pay the women the same, or find yourself in an expensive battle, one that they might not win the next time.

The problem with that Rosemary is that many employers forbid you to discuss your salary with another employee.  Its considered a 'firing offense'.  So, many of us have suspicion but no proof.

If I turn on the TV once more and hear the song AT LAST...playing while the wannabe Hollywood star and bride and groom are dancing - I'M GOING TO SCREAM...come on!

195 million$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WTF...OMG... I am going to puke! (Athough I don't think it comes out of tax payer's/government money.) But still...even half of that money could have been used toward one of our nations causes... perhaps the homeless or the hungry. Or gee... maybe even a cure!

That will always remain a problem for anyone in business.  There's really no way to fix it because private companies can restrict talking about compensation.   But, if you do find out, then you have recourse with no time frame to sue.  We'll have to see who votes for or against it.  Mikulski's fix might be too wide open, so I can see a problem with some supporting it.  But I'd rather see it pass then not.

    Laura,

$40 million came out of our money.  It was for security.  The entire amount of Bush's inaugural cost was spent this time just for security because he was having a 4 day fest for himself out in public.  So yes, we paid some too.

Check out Oprah's show on hormones today. She is having Dr. Northrup on, who got me started into thinking alternatives and who I credit for motivating me to get healthy.

I do have a warning for all who haven't tuned into C-SPAN yet and don't know what's going on.  But to a person, a democrat person, before they say anything, they first praise and glorify THE BARACK of the OBAMA's.  If it weren't for him, this bill wouldn't be before us, because he is the reason....blah, blah, blah.  Only after that benediction, they can go on to discuss the bill before them.  It's hard to watch.

It will get old so just hang in there.  Right now everyone is excited with a new President, new house/senate members.   Its their time to gloat.  Just remember that old saying 'pride goeth before a downfall.'  I'm not saying that I hope Obama fails.  I hope he surprises those of us who are still unsure.  Only time will tell.

Thou shall not have strange gods before me, is what worries me the most.  We don't need any lessons from above to get some of them down to earth and out of that rarefied air they all seem to be breathing.

It looks like Republicans are getting their backbone back, They don't plan to give Obama an eassy pass for his bailout. They are going through his plan pointing ineffecencies. For example he wants to weatherize poor people houses, it's a noble idea but will not create jobs.

Hm maybe if they fight him long enough, the economy will start recovering on its own and not need his massive bailout.

Anybody see that McCain was the one reaching across the aisle to help Hillary? The news said "an old foe helped Hillary" ..  apparently he went down on the floor and told the Reps to "come on, let's get this done" ... only 2 Reps went against her and it was a fete accompli!
