It is 10 degrees at 6 :09 AM. I'm off to deliver my elderly Democrat neighbors' papers to their door; my community service for today.

It's a little warmer downtown where the crowd have been gathering since 4.

My birthday/inaugural party table is set in red, white, and blue.

"The fabulous new chapter will probably be either chapter 11 or chapter 13" LOL! Woohoo change is on the way! Go Pelosi...no really, JUST GO!

Bush leaves note for Obama in Oval Office

    By DEB RIECHMANN Associated Press

    Jan. 20, 2009, 6:43AM

WASHINGTON - Continuing a White House ritual, President George W. Bush left a note in the Oval Office for President-elect Barack Obama, wishing him well as he takes the reins of the executive branch.

The White House today declined to provide intimate details of the message the two-term Republican left for the incoming Democrat, saying only that Bush wrote it on Monday and left it in the top drawer of his desk.

"The theme is similar to what he's said since election night about the fabulous new chapter President-elect Obama is about to start, and that he wishes him the very best," White House press secretary Dana Perino said today.

During his last moments in the Oval Office, former President Ronald Reagan scribbled a note for his successor on a notepad with a turkey insignia that said "Don't let the turkeys get you down." He, too, slipped the note in the presidential desk for his successor, President George H.W. Bush.

Four years after that, the elder Bush left a note for President Bill Clinton. And eight years after that, Clinton wrote a note for Bush, and included a copy of the message he had received from Bush's father.

Bush's final half-day as president includes a goodbye to Washington and a hello from fellow Texans.

On Tuesday morning, the president and first lady Laura Bush will welcome Obama and his wife, Michelle, to the White House. The Bushes, the Obamas, Vice President-elect Joe Biden, his wife, Jill, and leaders of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies will have coffee in the Blue Room.

After the swearing-in ceremony for Obama at the Capitol, Bush will take a helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base, where he'll make private remarks inside a hangar.

The Bushes then will fly to Midland, Texas, on the familiar blue-and-white presidential aircraft, although it will be called Special Air Mission 28000 instead of Air Force One because Bush will no longer be president.

While the inauguration frenzy continues in Washington, thousands of well-wishers are expected to greet the Bushes at Centennial Plaza in Midland - the same place the president stopped on his way to the nation's capital for his own inauguration in 2001. While Bush was born in New Haven, Conn., he spent his childhood in Midland. He returned there as an adult in the 1970s and met the future first lady.

After the rally, the Bushes are flying to Waco on their way to their 1,600-acre ranch in nearby Crawford.

I would have liked to be part of the people waiting to greet our President in Texas, but here I am instead.  In a few more hours, Pelosi will take over the reins and off we go into the world of spending.  Ben Stein doesn't seem to think that spending massive amounts of money, and printing it as we go, will hurt us overall.  Eventually it will cause inflation, but he says that's years away.  The problem with inflation, once prices get up there, they never seem to go back down.  So we get stuck with them forever, or until a long term recession hits.  Ben didn't mention that inflation problem.  Anyway, spend, spend, spend.

    Vivre,

I think I found where you got your info on percentages of people being helped by SERM therapy.

Shirley ...so glad to see you are no longer grounded! I love your posts - no matter where they are ;)

I don't mean to intrude, I just want to acknowledge you all on a day when you probably won't want to turn on the tv, radio, read a newspaper...I know there is much doubt about whether PEBO will be a success or not. I hope, as time goes on, that he is able to over come everyones doubts. I hope he is as successfull as Regan was in taking on this HUGE task and turning our world around.

    God Bless

Rosemary, that is not the article I saw, but it does say what I had read, and very well I might add. It is ironic that it was on bc.org. I never check out their info.LOL It did make me really ticked off though. I am P- and my onc told me my chance of recurrance was 10%. Arimidex would cut it to 5%, Well bull! That article says that it only helps 10% of people who are P-. This really makes me mad! I could have been talked into taking that crap for nothing! I am sending her the article. Maybe this explains my violent reaction to the pressure to take this drug. Maybe it was my sub consious warning me that it would do more harm than good.

Here is another article I just got about hormone therapy:

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES: THE EVIDENCE IS HERE

It is sad and disturbing that in 2009 there is no formally-designated medical specialty in women's health. It is sad and disturbing that the role of hormones in wellness and disease prevention is unclear and confusing to the medical community and the public at large.

Physicians taking care of women and working with hormones are polarized; they either support bioidenticals to a fault or reject them cavalierly without scientific basis or knowledge of what they are or how they work.

Doctors pitted against doctors are a recipe for disaster. This untenable situation directly affects patient care. Women are suffering while desperately looking to their doctors for answers and reassurance. We can no longer stand by watching women be treated as second class citizens in our present health care system.

As a conventional physician who has worked successfully with bioidentical hormones for 14 years on 15,000 patients I find it hard to accept that if it weren't for celebrities touting bioidenticals, most conventional physicians would still think of bioidenticals as a dirty word or a marketing term. Shouldn't the goal of healthcare be for physicians to help patients feel better? What am I missing here?

I find it impossible to grasp the reality that millions of women who take bioidenticals might have to continue to be victims of shoddy practices by fringe elements and feel obligated to hide the fact that they are taking bioidenticals from their conventional doctors for fear of intimidation or belittlement.

It is time to eliminate the polarization. Together with a group of expert and caring clinicians we have committed to creating a better system of cooperation among doctors and between doctors and patients.

One year ago we created the Bioidentical Hormone Initiative, www.bioidenticalhormone initiative.org , a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating physicians, educating lawmakers in Congress and providing scientific and referral resources to physicians and laypeople on all bioidentical hormone data on an ongoing basis.

The Bioidentical Hormone Initiative, is asking for physicians to join forces and experience and effectuate a positive change in women's health and learn the science behind them and consider the use of bioidentical hormones in their practices.

There are no good guys, there are no bad guys here. There only are women who suffer and need not do so. For goodness sake, this is 2009 after all!

When the focus is shifted entirely onto the women we will be able to create a better health care system that will lead to healthier and happier patients and more professionally-fulfilled physicians. Together with the founders and the members of the Bioidentical Hormone Initiative we will work to accomplish this goal. Please join us!

Flyer, you enjoy your day too! We will all find out soon enough what this man is really made of. He will no longer be able to vote present. I just hope he does what is right and not what Harry and Nancy try to foist on us.

Did anyone see the letter the Bush girls left for Sasha and Malia?  It was beautiful and true ... I am sure the girls will treasure it.

In honor of the day ... I dressed T in red, white and blue .. a big ponytail and blue ribbon.  She had to practice saying Inauguration a couple times but she's got it ...

Reverend Warren prayer made me tear up.  This is truly an amazing event neighbours.  Aretha Franklin can still sing...better than ever.  This is a cool day folks.  I am so glad I don't have to work today.  I am truly witnessing history.  The Globe and mail is broadcasting live too.  Yup, Canada too has been anticipating this day!

    Vivre,

So you are ER+ and PR-?

If both estrogen and progesterone receptors are present (ER+/PR+), your chance of responding to hormonal therapy is about 70%. If you are estrogen-receptor-positive only (ER+/PR-) OR progesterone-receptor-positive only (ER-/PR+), you have about a 33% chance of responding. If the receptor status is unknown, there is about an overall 10% chance of responding.///

I didn't know about the 70%, but that wouldn't have stopped me from taking Arimidex.  I really don't want to know if I fall into the 30%.

If any gay person turned their back, they have no right to complain they are not heard. You have to listen before you speak. This is a time for everyone to work together, not just because of the change in power but because of the state of our Union...IMHO

Pastor Rick did a fantastic job!

I didn't care for Aretha's version of the song .. I absolutely hate it when they go off and do their own version or change the tempo of a song .. You can't sing along and in a moment like this when everyone is really trying to be a bit supportive and remember that no matter what, this is OUR country, all of ours, you'd think she'd make it so everyone could sing it!!

Sorry flyz ... there's some people who think it's their way or the highway .. How dare Obama choose that man!

Yeah rosemary, now you can see why I am so mad that they were trying to tell me to take arimidex.  I wonder if my docs even know that it does not help much if we are PR-? The more I keep reading about low progesterone, the more I think that this might be the key. We are treating women by taking out our estrogen, maybe it would be better to balance it with progesterone. I know you question that some people are ER and PR +, but I wonder what the ratio is? It could still be estrogen dominant.  We could still have progesterone, but it might still be too low to counter the affects of too much estrogen. Our hormone levels go up and down our whole lives. Look at how crazy they get when we are pregnant. Estrogen is high, progesterone is low. Maybe this is why some women get cancers while childbearing. Our hormones are going wild in times of stress, estrogens go way up. Here is another cause? Our hormones fluctuate wildly pre menopause, hence at times we may show levels of estrogen in one direction, sometimes another. Just because our tumors may show them to be estrogen and progesterone pos or neg,  I wonder what they would show if the test was taken a month earlier or later? It just makes a lot of sense to me that the truth lies more in BALANCING our hormones, not in depleting them. Hormones are essential to our health. Without them we lose many functions. Our hearts are compromised, our brain is undernourished and our bones and muscle begin to atrophy. I really believe that the new research on this is beginning to show that medicine has been going in the wrong direction. We do not need to take away one of the essential components of our bodies. We need to find balance. It is very exciting to me. This may be the key to preventing breast cancer completely. Wouldn't that be incredible!

My progesterone was too low when I was pg .. I had to take it until I was 12 weeks along.  I lost the first baby at almost 8 weeks because I was too low.  Thankfully, I had a neighbor who told me to just "check" on that because it had happened to her, too .. I told my doctor, who said it's not a common test to run unless you have 3 miscarriages.  I asked to go ahead and do it anyway and she said she would authorize it, so at 5 or 6 weeks along, she checked it and it was too low!!!  I would have lost T at 8 weeks!!!

Here's what Cindy had to say to her reporter daughter about the media:

Well, I think, without sounding bitter - and I'm not bitter - I do believe there was a media bias. I do believe that the media had a specific agenda and with that said, the American people cast their vote. But I do believe that there is a voyeuristic media: Everyone is a reporter now because everyone has a camera on their phone, the face of reporting in general has changed. There is very little difference now between journalism and gossip.

I truly feel that unless the media goes back to unbiased reporting they are going to do a disservice to the youth of this country. The future of this country lies in the youth and we have to be good stewards of information and truth.

Anybody notice that the Carters snubbed the Clintons ... exPres Carter greeted exPresBush (41) and Mrs. Bush but walked right by the Clintons without a glance.  Hillary seemed a little shocked and justed watched them as they walked right by them.

I second all the positive remarks above. Thank you, Flyrzfan!

The speech was very tough on Bush; think about having to sit there.....

McCainiac, I am sorry I missed you. I didn't enjoy the unrecognizable "America", but Elizabeth Alexander's poem was lovely.

The Carters seems to be in a snit lately. Poor public behavior......like booing President Bush today.

These are the lines that resonate with me:

We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.

I was looking at the luncheon menu ...  sounds very tasty.  Then I looked up the recipes and it dawned on me that that luncheon is not very inclusive to the Jewish politicians that keep kosher. Strange I thought ...  Anyway, keeping kosher doesn't allow for them to eat lobster, shrimp or scallops and that's what's in the seafood stew.

Anyway, just saying ... not political .. maybe none of the guests keep kosher, maybe they checked it all out before serving or maybe they know who keeps it and give them another 1st dish, like people who are allergic to seafood.

The White House/Capitol chefs are VERY aware of every guest's food preference/prohibition.

It's nothing short of amazing the care that goes into these affairs. I hope we DO see a lot of entertaining in thr White House.

The poem was a tad discombobulated to my ears.  I'm hearing about Carter snubbing the Clintons.  What a shame.  Carter is the person who told the world that Ted Kennedy wouldn't shake his hand when he was nominated, and now he does the same thing, but at a more public venue.  A lot of disrespect going on.

Then the exchange between my Senator Cornyn and Hillary.  Cornyn wants a full Senate vote, as it should be.  We need to hear all.  Plus, what are they going to do about that pesky constitution issue?
