There was even a children's party today! Families posed with a cardboard PEBO.

Local coverage is...massive, including the Obama family's visit to the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, on 16th Street! The staging and film coverage are like Hollywood productions, as carefully and presciently orchestrated as the campaign.

There are all kinds of "balls" and parties; the A-List are the $upporter$. If this kind of money were spent by Republicans??? During a war and a recession? However, the downtown bars and restaurants and hotels are thrilled!

Now I am going to work and catch up on the View, the one with the shrewish Ann Coulter. Tongue out

     I love Whoopi!!!

The only good thing about everyone going crazy over this guy is they might take a little more interest in what really goes on in Congress.

I have a huge problem with duplicity.  Pelosi, Reid et al, are all telling the world how they care for the common person because they will lower our payroll taxes.  Hey,  that's great.  They've been shouting it from the highest hill.  But at the same time they're going to be upping payroll taxes for S.S. and whatever.  This, hardly a murmer.  Say what?.  I can't hear you.

Then the blame game that goes on.  They didn't think to put conditions into the first TARP bail-out plan, and you've got to hear them blame everyone else.  None of them will take personal responsiblity for anything.  They know they don't have to because we really don't care.  How do they know we don't care?  Because we keep reelecting them.  The entire lot of them who got us into this mess are all back in place, now ready to get us out of it.  What a hoot.

Sherri, I agree with you about bama. He is no hunk. And who wants to kiss an ashtray. I once dated a gorgeous football star. He was 6 4, and a real stud. But he refused to quit smoking. I said adios. He could not believe it. I must add, he was a bit vain. I thought Carly Simon wrote that song about him! I must of played that song a million times. It made me feel really good about dumping him.

Rock, I want to meet your friend. She sounds like a very open minded person. I have a feeling she will soon be voting republican. She is so right, the expectations for him are so outrageous. There is no where he can go but down. I guess we can pray that he will truly see the light and be able to reign( pun intended) in Queen Nitwit Nancy and King Dirty Harry. I never thought of the downside for the Obama girls, but that was something to think about. It will be hard for them now to live any kind of normal life. They will never know if people want to be friends for the right reason. At least they will have each other, but life will be very hard living in a cocoon. They will have all that security around them and no chance to do normal teenage things. But I guess they will get to meet all those celebs and get anything they want. I hope they turn out okay.

Daff, I love Whoopi too. She tries to be fair with those she does not agree with, and she tries to look at both sides. She does not agree with Bush but she has never bashed him or made crude jokes about him. I am so glad they got rid of that awful odonnell.  I still do not watch the show much because Joy Behar's voice makes my skin crawl, but I can stand it in small doses (very small doses).

I just came back from reading a story about how the housing market might be correcting itself.  Gee, without government interference?  Motivated sellers are lowering the prices of their homes, and guess what, some are getting into bidding wars for them.   If there are bidding wars going on, then the prices might be too low, but that's another story.

Some can lower their prices because they didn't mortgage every last dime of value that's in them.  Others can't because they started with a mortgage that was more then the house was actually worth.  Our government at work made that possible.

You are right that the housing market is coming slowly back in some areas, but it will take a long time to recover in places like CA and Vegas where people got caught up in the inflated prices to begin with. My friend who is a real estate agent, said last year was her best year ever.

Here is something interesting I heard from Michael Medved yesterday. He said that our national deficit was the same when Bush started as when he ended 3%. For all the screaming the dems do about the deficit, it is estimated that if all these trillions get spent, the deficit will be 12 % in 4 years! I wish I could remember his stats on unemployment averages, but I know Bush's average unimployment stats were lower than any president. However, people will only judge him on the past few months because that is when things got bad. I wonder if anyone will ever call attention to the fact that our economy began to slide when the Congress turned over to the dems the past 2 years.

I think Bush is basically being dipped in hot oil now over the war.  His administration made huge mistakes in Iraq.  They had no exit plan in place and made it far worse then it had to be.  We created the civil war that started there.  Then we had to pay for it without having the funds to do so.  On top of it, we put a spending democrat congress in the majority, and off to the poor house we went.   It should have stopped, (the spending) when we had to dip into S.S. funds to pay for our excesses, but nope, no bells and whistles went off.   If we ran our homes the way the gov't spends our money, we'd all be living in tents.

    phone rang.

Ok, and now they want to spend more money to fix this,  that we don't have.  It's going to be a very interesting 4 years to come.  Yes, unemployment was low, the stock market was high, and housing  prices was based on thin aiir values.  In all, Bush's time in office was really a success if we look at our everyday lives that we lived during his terms in office. And he kept us safe.  Overall, I'd give him a B+.

SO in a few days hoopla will die, what's next ? What will the left adoring media do ? Will they actually do their job and turn a critical eye to the new White House ?

I am also interresetd in what will happen with Michelle Obama. She was mostly kept in background with not many opportunities for improv speaking. I have a feeling she will get into some hot water over her remarks pretty soon.

Today a new Glenn Beck show premiers on Fox News. His first guest is Sara Pallin. I've already set my DVR to record it. This should be very interesting.

I hope Glenn doesn't want to just rehash the past with her.  It's time to move on and ask her the questions of the day.  I'd like to know about what she thinks about Russia cutting back on oil deliveries to certain nations.  What's that about?

ASHINGTON (AFP) - US Defense Secretary Robert Gates will sit out Barack Obama's inauguration at an undisclosed location as the "designated successor" in the event of a catastrophe, the White House announced Monday.

While the eyes of the world are glued Tuesday to Obama's historic swearing-in, attended by outgoing US President George W. Bush and both outgoing and incoming senior aides, Gates will stay away, said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

"In order to ensure continuity of government, Defense Secretary Robert Gates has been designated by the outgoing administration, with the concurrence of the incoming administration, to serve as the designated successor during Inauguration Day, Tuesday, January 20th," Perino said.

It is common practice for one senior US official to sit out major events, like the annual State of the Union speech, to ensure that the US government has clear leadership in the event of a disaster or terrorist attack.

But Washington has been especially attuned to the potential problems of succession because Obama's swearing-in is the first US presidential transition since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Gates is an unusually good choice as a bridge between the two administrations: Bush chose him to be his defense secretary in November 2006 and Obama has decided to keep him on in that post.

Gates "will be spending the day at a military installation outside the national capital region," said spokesman Geoff Morrell, who declined to offer further details, citing security concerns.

Oh Gosh .....  online casinos are betting on MO's potential weight gain in the WH ..... and this is from Chicago!!!  This is the part of politics that gets pretty bad .. But they did it to Nancy, Laura, and Hillary.  I think a man must have written the article because it's not just AA women in their 40's who gain weight .. we all do!!  ... I really do hope they leave the girls alone ( it must be like Xmas to them).

--CHICAGO, IL -- Michelle Obama's college and adult-life has been spent studying liberal thinking, debating politics, working as a community organizer, becoming an attorney, and, of course, staying in-shape at the gym. Despite the effects of two children, Michelle has managed to ward-off pounds and remain in above-average physical condition. Now that the First-Lady can finally relax, as her family has reached the pinnacle of USA success, online casinos are asking, 'How much weight will she gain in the White House?'

Her broad shoulders, large legs, buttox, and wide physique have many speculating she could gain a tremendous amount of fat during the Barack Obama presidency in the White House. A large increase in weight is something many African-American women experience in their mid-40's. Michelle's access to a 24-hour gourmet chef in the White House will not make things any easier.

Michelle, who was born January 17, 1964, will turn 45-years old just before the inauguration of Barack, the first African-American president to take office. As you know, some have debated whethor or not he is truly the first Black president, as his mother was 100% White.

In today's world of never-ending betting, the online gambling community will try to uncover the odds of Michelle's potential gain-in-weight.

Many gaming analysts have speculated the difficulty in producing betting-odds of Mrs. Obama's weight-gain while her husband is in office, especially since she will be reluctant to weigh herself on official, international scales, both before and after.

At this point, she is most likely in the 5'5" - 5'9" range, probably weighing anywhere from 145lbs to 160lbs.

How much weight she will gain in the White House over the next 4-8 years is something to gamble-on. Stay tuned to Online Casino Sphere in the coming days for the betting-odds.

McGeeHee has been released from hospital; no internal damage. Good!!!!

If the homeless have been persuaded into shelters, that is a good thing. It's been brutally cold here, and now we are on a snow watch. I don't think they would be "kept" anywhere against their wishes. The District does its best, but our homeless citizens have very firm ideas about what kind of assistance they wish to accept.

What a lousy article re Mrs. Obama, including the misuse of hyphens and bad spelling: disrespectful and incorrect. Las Vegas is in very bad shape, so I guess they will place odds on anything.

The country is racist because of an "irrational fear of black men."  So says the other thread.

All of us have friends, bankers, neighbors, politicians, fellow workers, business owners, policemen, firemen, public service workers, bosses, employees and more and more often relatives that are non-Caucasian and we have no "irrational fear" of.  We have an irrational fear of young black punks with red or blue do rags that carry 9 mm and use violence to prove their manhood.  I have an irrational fear of the crazy white vietnam vet that flys a US flag upside down and has a no trespassing sign that says, don't beware of the dog, I shot the damn dog, and anybody else that trespasses. That does not make me a anti-veteran person.  I have an irrational fear of the white guys with there head shaved and a swastika of there forehead.  I don't have an irrational fear of white men.  I have an irrational fear for my grandchildren because of white pedophiles, that does not make me afraid of people with a different sexuality than me.

It is so easy to blame racism on the failures of a community to clean up the gangs and stop the violence.  It is not racism that caused a young NFL player to say that he and his siblings as children had to sleep on the floor of their house in South Central LA because bullets would come through the walls in gang shootings outside.  I truly believe that racism has finally gotten to the point that it is more black toward whites than the other way around.  Maybe, some day it will balance with only the nuts on both sides practicing.

I don't know, I might take that bet.  I say less than 10 lbs.

It's good news that the border cops are getting out.  They set an example not to shoot unless it's to defend themselves, but let the punishment fit the crime.  Lou Dobbs will be thrilled.

I guess Terrell Owens permanently left that stink in our mouths...............

Glad to see the border guards sentence commuted---It was the right thing to do.........You are right .  Dobbs will be thrilled.

    On another matter

With all the better qualified candidates is Patterson really going to go through with this:

From the New York Post today.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

CAROLINE THE 'CERTAIN' PICK FOR DAVE: RIVALS

    By FREDRIC U. DICKER

    January 19, 2009 --

DESPITE claims that he's still undecided, Gov. Paterson is "certain" to pick Caroline Kennedy to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton in the US Senate, several unhappy contenders for the job have told friends and associates in recent days.

The contenders based their conclusion on the view that Paterson, after nearly two months of indecision, would "greatly embarrass" and "entirely humiliate" Kennedy, anger her prominent political family and even offend President-elect Barack Obama by picking someone other than President John F. Kennedy's daughter.

As for the governor's claim to be weighing a last-minute finalist, the contenders agree with a close Paterson friend who said, "It's clear David is just trying to play mind games with the press."

Some of the contenders warned, however, that the unelected Paterson, who must face the voters next year, could face a serious backlash from Democratic activists by choosing Kennedy, whose standing with the public, and with Democrats in particular, has been sliding in recent weeks.

US Rep. Carolyn Maloney of Manhattan, a would-be Clinton replacement who is backed by several women's organizations, was the most publicly adamant in saying the fix was in, citing a scenario - first outlined in last week's Village Voice - under which Paterson, in a deal with Mayor Bloomberg, a Kennedy friend, selects Kennedy in exchange for help for his own election bid next year.

Another potential candidate told The Post that he was convinced that Kennedy would get the job because Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, - who polls show is the public's favorite to succeed Clinton - failed to line up the right replacement at the AG's office.

"Andrew just couldn't assure the governor that he could arrange for [Assembly Speaker Sheldon] Silver to provide an acceptable successor," said the contender.

A third potential candidate claimed that Paterson's repeated contention - told to the media in private - that there is no front-runner is "baloney."

"It's been a done deal from the start," said the would-be candidate.

"David goes with Caroline with the understanding that Caroline, and her family and its resources, go with David next year. This stuff with Paterson saying he's looking at other people is a crock," the source continued.

Meanwhile, several Democrats pointed to Paterson's already-declining public-opinion poll numbers to warn that selecting Kennedy could worsen his chances to be elected next year.

"The polls show Kennedy is not who the public wants, and every upstate newspaper has come out against her," noted a longtime Democratic operative.

"Picking Caroline could turn into a disaster for Paterson," he continued.

A little-noticed Marist College poll last week showed Paterson, who became governor last March after Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a hooker scandal, with a rapidly declining job-approval rating.

    Susie,

Well there are embarrassments in sports but the Oilers being 32 pts ahead at a halftime playoff game, to only come back in the second half and give the game away, that made history. I don't think that record will ever be broken, so we keep hearing about it.   That's when we wished them well and a fond farewell.

About Caroline.  She's not a politician.  She might come in to the seat with an open mind with life experiences that isn't honed on nasty political dealings and unabashed power grabbing.  Not too open a mind because she'll have to sit for re-election in a couple of years.  She needs to get rid of those "you knows".   I don't think Paterson will get re-elected no matter who he appoints anyway.

I watched Palin on the Beck show.  They still won't ask her the tough questions but it was nice to see her again.
