Had a great night last night. At PAL they split the kids into two groups. One group went swimming while the other group did karaoke, then they switched. I was assigned to the karaoke room. Thank God they didn't make me sing, LOL. The highlight for me was helping a very distraught eight year old find her cell phone that she lost in the pool area.
Came home and had a fun filled night with my grandson. We ended the night playing Connect Four. Now mind you he'll only be six in February and he actually was competition for me. He already has the strategy of the game figured out.
Here is a picture of him taken Christmas day with one of his Christmas presents.

Karin that is the best pic ever...so cute ! I just sent you a pm regarding the pics you were collecting.
Hi Gals....rock hope it's not to busy for you as you get ready to go ...how did the dentist go? Kristy hugs for a speedy recovery..let us know how you are doing when you can. Noelle did you survive New York ? Kerry glad your bone density turned out good in the end...loved the story of the butterfles when you were out for your walk, i could picture it in my mind. It must be a good omen and mean wonderful things are ahead for you and all of us! Linda I hope you can wade through all the family and work stuff that you have to deal with, sometimes things just all pile up together and you just have to plow thru.
If I haven't mentioned your name it's not because i'm not thinking about you, it's just my brain can only retain a certain amount of info and i will have to go back and re read the posts to see what everyone is up to !
Have a great weekend everyone!

Angles,
Thanks for the compliment on the picture. He is my pride and joy. I'm not a prideful person, never let pride get in the way of me being humble. In the case of being a proud grandparent, now that's another story. I just wanted you all to have an image to refer to in your mind when I am speaking of my grandson. It helps us to connect more in this cyber world.
-
Noelle,
Ok I can't take it anymore. As soon as you get back from the wedding you're attending we want an update on your visit with Rock. We want photos too. You did take photos didn't you? Inquiring minds want to know, LOL. I hope you all don't mind but I am speaking for all of us.
I'm thinking of Rock too but don't want to bog her down with a response because I know she is closing up the last minute things that must be done before she leaves for her adventure.

Awwwwww! My brother had a Boxer called Cassie for about 15 yrs. When she died he and his ex cremated the body and split the ashes! She was a mad puppy until she died..a very, very funny dog. The face says it all, really. Oh...and your grandson is pretty cute too! Connect Four..now THERE'S a flashback! Had another big day ('big day' is all relative, as we know, girls!) on assembling the bookcases yesterday. Boy are they schmick..and I am about to go and hang the last 4 doors. All set for tidy living. LMFAO!!! At least I can dispense with several hundred (it seems) un-unpacked boxes once the thing is finished. Love y'all. Kristy, hope you are coming along well and being treated like the Queen you are! XX

Yes, pictures would be sweet...speaking of pictures, your grandson is so angelic. What a sweetheart. I can't wait for grandkids. I've been lucking lately, not sure why. I just won a party for 20 at the comedy club in Milwaukee. I'm gonna get a big group together for my b-day at the end of the month. I also won tickets to the bridal show next weekend. My daughter isn't going to get married for a few years but I thought it would be so much fun.
I've been crafty today. Made a big batch of spaghetti sauce for homemade pizza and lasagna. Just packed up the Chrsitmas stuff and getting ready to put my feet up. We got another 8 inches of snow last night and today so I figured it was a good day to cook.
Dad's surgery went very well. They only had to take 6 inches of colon. He's pretty weak, not in the best health but he's got my brothers to help him out. Hr lives in Denver and has been there for 20 years. Refuses to come back to the midwest.
Kristy, where are you girlfriend? Hope your feeling good. Let us know how your doing. Thinking of you, and ranD.

Kerry, what's schmick? Dare I ask?
-
Mary,
Schmick - I think in Australia this means anything sick, cool, tight or excellent.
Usually the item is new, shiny, fresh and mad bling-bling style. Can't take credit for being knowledgeable, I googled it. Let's wait and see what Kerry has to say.Congratulations, and while you are on a winning streak, mind passing some of that luck our way?
-
LOL!! Yes, I guess all of the above except I don't consider myself a 'fresh and mad bling-bling' kind of gal! New, unmarked, undamaged (by us!), straight and empty. That's a schmick bookcase for me
Hopefully it will be untidily full by dinner time tonight. Roxi, yes it's luck and a lot more. I really believe this whole bc thing has sharpened up our whole place in the world/big scheme of things. I'm certainly more acutely 'aware'. Anyone else feel this way? Maybe I should take a lotto ticket..I don't even know how to!
-
I am home - got to come home around 3 pm today. Not very comfortable and moving really slowly but HOME.
Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts! It is a rough surgery but better than I expected being the realist that I am!
More later!
Kristy

Welcome home...kick your feet up and let one of those awesome kids give you a hand. Wish I was there to help. Get well soon, but not too soon, take it easy for awhile.
Word of the day...schmick. I'm taking it to the streets in Wisconsin!
-
Roxi, you crack me up! For years I taught the top end of visual art students (17 & 18 yo) and constantly lamented the decline and laziness in their critical and analytical language. To illustrate my point,I did two things. I made sure my language was pure, eloquent, complex and terribly correct. That was funny enough! AND I made up The Schmick-Shite Continuum. I told them that if they insisted on being lazy in their analyses, I would simply not beat them but join them. I drew the Schmick-Shite Continuum on the board in permanent marker, and made them critique each other's work by marking on the sliding scale. It was hilarious. They would sit there and soberly argue with each other.."No. No! It's def more schmick than THAT!" Even though the kids (many years worth) are all grown up, they still use the scale in their ordinary life and still mention it to me
It looks like this:
SCHMICK.........................X................................SHITE (The x is moved according to the value!)
-
Kristy--soft, gentle hugs coming your way! Now, eat some cookies.
Kerry, that scale is hilarious. It's amazing what you can get students to do, when you come up with a creative approach.
Karin, what a loving look from the puppy and the grandson--both have such deep, brown eyes.
Rock is leaving on Monday, I think. She's been posting short notes on her blog. Sounds like things are getting hectic, but she'll work it out. Hey, rock? I hope once you get settled in, you can find a few minutes with an internet connection to send us a note once in awhile. We're gonna miss you...

Hey women,
I was in Palm Springs for the week and just back to Seattle. I could access FB, but only in short spurts so happy to catch up. Too much wonderful news. Too much excitement. I am, at once, happy, excited, jealous, sad, hopeful, etc....
News here is no tamoxafin at all for me so five years of AI (femarra? Spelling?) instead. I will get the perscription filled on Monday then off we go. Other news is herceptin is for the full year. I went with Jen's idea that you divide 52 by 3 since I go in for herceptin once every three weeks and it came to seventeen treatments, but that is a NO GO.
Will post longer soon, but like so many of you, life is getting in the way of posting but I sure loved catching up . . . Kristy, hope all is well. Karin, so gald to see you are back. Rock, hope your last day is good before taking off and please be in touch. Kerry, mazel tov on finding your X-Mas stuff. It's never too late. Noelle, we want photos. RanD, I am thinking of you and wish we could hear what's up. Linda, Jean, Heather, Adrienne and crew, it's nice to see what's happening in your lives. Will catch up soon. Ciao.

Eddie,
I have been on Femara since October 17th. I don't suffer from any of the dreaded SE's that you may have read here on the discussion boards. My joints are a bit stiff when I first get up but once I start moving around I am fine the rest of the day. For the first month and a half my index fingers did feel a bit arthritic but that has since disappeared. As for the hot flashes and night sweats I don't have any but as I mentioned in another post somewhere, I take .5mg of Lexapro a day so that may be a huge contributing factor. So if you would suffer from bad hot flashes ask your onco to prescribe you a low dose of Lexapro or other SSRIs (Effexor, Paxil, etc.) So all in all I can say that other then a slower start to the day (getting those joints moving) I physically feel pre B.C. yeah!
-
Lesson Learned
Since putting my want to stay in touch with you all ahead of my need to get things done I have found it takes less time. Popping in a few times a day there is less to read and less to respond to. Only takes a few minutes. When staying away for a week or more there are tons of posts to catch up on so hours reading through all, then more time deciding which ones to respond to. I'm back. Speaking of back. LOL
-
Doc prescribed the effexor for me for the hot flashes...... darn prescrip cost 3x the amount of the tamox! Alas, they don't have an generic yet for it but it is coming soon. On kerry's scale its about here..... SCHMICK.........................X.SHITE
Karin, I'm trying to come up with a good pic for you. I'll send it soon!
Eddie~ I missed ya doll!
RanD~ Please check in with us, I'm really getting worried.

Kristy~ I hope you are getting around a bit better today. Take it easy and know we love ya.
Otter, kerry, lewing, angels, jeano, sueper, adrienne and eveyone else Have a great day!
-
Eddie - I was starting to wonder where you've been. I was gonna throw in "Women" if I didn't see you. I bet Palm Springs was great - we're having really nice weather for January!
Kristy - Glad to see you're home and hope it's getting better and easier to move. Gentle hugs...
Roxi - Glad to hear you're dad is okay. And thanks for asking about the schmick thing - great fun!
Kerry - Speaking of schmick, did your bookcases get filled?
Karin - I'm going to try to take my cue from you and check in at least once a day - you're right, waiting only makes it harder to catch up!
Hey to Rock Otter, Sue, Jen, Jean, Gracie, Adrienne, Noelle - thinking of Randie, too.
-
Karin, I haven't sent you a recent pic yet. Okay, so I haven't sent you a pic at all. The reason is posted on the Hair, Hair, Hair thread.

Otter,
Just checked it out. Too funny. You know you can put your cap back on and take a picture. Just as long as its you feeling comfortable and post chemo. After all that's why I'm making the collage. To see my gals will make me feel good; in turn comfortable. I do need one of you as you are the wise one I always called on for important info. Because of you I was able to ease my HFS and neuropathy and rock didn't have to walk around on her hands. Can't list everything you have done to help us; that would consist of writing a book. Have I mentioned lately; Thank You.
-
Rock,
Not expecting a reply. Just had to let you know I am thinking of you, feeling your mixed emotions about the whole thing. Hoping for an update once you are all settled in. Have a safe flight.
-
Karin, you love my hair-do so much you copied it, right??? Talk about chemo-curl...sigh...But I am so glad you are feeling on top of It..I believe we are all getting there
Sable I laughed out loud at your use of The Schmick-Shite Continuum..but not at the cost of the tabs. WHY does everything have to be so HARD??? My bookcase...mmmmm...good intentions, girls, good intentions. But the time-pixies stole much of the afternoon and not a single book was unpacked......still schmick, but.
-
Kerry,
Its ok we'll let you slide, but the bookcase better be filled by next weekend. As for me coping your hair, sorry but I loved it. You started a new fashion trend. What scares me is the fact that when I get use to dealing with this curly, wavy hair it will go back to the straight hair I had and I will have something different to complain about. We always want what we don't have.
-
I am feeling a little bit too good right now. During the summer my daughter's fiancé brought me a bottle of White Zinfandel. I didn't drink it because I was on chemo. Today they were here watching the Eagles vs. Giants game. I cracked it open and drank it all. Need I say more?
-
Karin-will get a pic to you soon! Don't have any new hair to show off, beginning to wonder if it is ever going to start to grow! (Other that the 1" colorless sporadic spikes on top.) Which leads to a funny story--I was over at DD's the other day and my 3 y/o grandson decided to take my hat off and "style" my "hair". He was trying to get his sister's little clips to stay in, then took a comb and said "I have to mow these pieces down" I almost fell over laughing at him. Needless to say-I WISH I HAD HAIR!
-
Since I'm not good at posting pictures, I changed my avatar!
Got the results of the mammogram that was done on my right breast--no cancer seen! So glad that I had a good surgeon and he got clear margins last April. I have been driving myself crazy lately, wondering if I should have had the mast instead of the lumpectomy-now I know that made the right decision! Peace of mind, for now.
Rock-know that you are busy but just wanted you to know that I'm thinking about you and hope that you have a safe trip.
Love you all!
-
Rock, have a safe trip tomorrow, but have fun!
