BrandonMom, that's weird? I made my appointment on Tuesday for that Friday. I did have to go pick up my original pathology slides and bring them to my first appointment but it all went smooth. I'm sorry it didn't work out that way for you because it's a fantastic place. If you want, I will be there tomorrow - I can stop by and talk with the admin person I dealt with and see if she can get a wheel greased so you get a call? It's up to you, I don't mind doing it and they are MUCH closer than Hopkins! PM me your phone number and full name if you want me to do it...I'll let you know exactly who I spoke to and what's said.
Dawn - gotta get back to work so not much time left to discuss my feelings on options...we can talk Saturday if you're planning on joining us at the above mentioned get together at Ruby Tuesday's in Alexandria? I think Nancy has the address...but I did recon same time as my blm...

I'm just now finding this thread....sorry I'm so late to join. I live in Ashburn, VA, near Dulles Airport. I am a 34-year-old stay at home mom of two little boys. I was just diagnosed in September with IDC. I had my bilat mast on 10/21 and found out soon after that my tumor is 95% DCIS...talk about a miracle. I find out on the 21st if I have to go through chemo or not, but I already have my hopes up that the answer is no. I had my surgery at VA Hospital Center and my breast surgeon is Dr. Akbari at the Breast Health Center. I love her. And my PS is Dr. Duda and I have been pleased so far. I'm HATING these expanders though. I just had my second fill yesterday and could not even move yesterday. Sigh. But I hate to complain, because I know chemo and radiation is so much worse.
It's nice to meet all you ladies, just wish it were under different circumstances. :-\

I am new to this whole thing - BC and these Boards. Don't even know if I am using it right. However, I hope your meeting went well at Tyson's. I am in Maryland just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. I have spent hours reading just trying to sort out treatments, feelings, outcomes, fears, diagnosis, and choices. I have never been so confused. I have chosen Hopkins at this point, but would love to hear how everyone made their choices of doctors and hospitals. Any chance you girls are meeting again?
-
Hi everyone:
Anyone is encouraged to pick a place, date and time for a meet up. For those who drive, make sure there is adequate parking and cheap or free, like at Tyson's. And/or close to the Metro.
The four gals I met at chemo and I are meeting today for a late lunch in Alexandria. 3 have had surgery, one is having hers next week, and I have mine Dec 5. We had 3 pah tees to celebrate our respective last chemo treatment. Imagine 5 women first on steroids, then on benadryl !!! The nurses were great and it helped make the experience much more "doable". If you ever meet any of us in person, we have pictures. None of us are clever enough - yet - to post them here.
I am the old fart of the group: 62, retired, widow extraordinaire ( 5 1/2 years ), used to live in suburban Pittsburgh, sold the house after 36 years in it, moved to an apartment in Alexandria 2 years ago to be closer to my one and only son, who was married 3 weeks after my diagnosis in May. I go to Georgetown Univ Hospital, but will use Inova Alexandria for radiation after surgery.
Welcome to the new gals. Jump in and check the other threads. You probably will see my posts there also. Have a great weekend, Nancy
-
welcome ap and dld...sounds like you both are still in the WTF stage...all I can say is, the first few months are the hardest. You wouldn't think of the chemo stage as being a stage to catch your breath, but it is. I also go to Georgetown where Nancy goes...I ended up there because I have family that works there and they were a real advocate. Once I had my consult, I agreed and wouldn't have gone anywhere else. The most important thing - regardless of where you go - is that you like them and you feel understood.
We are meeting up today in Alexandria (right, Nancy?) at Ruby Tuesdays - you are more than welcome to come. Can't miss us, we're the (mostly) steroid fattened, (mostly) bald, (entirely) too loud group. I have to go double check the address and time now...
Hope everyone is cruising along in their treatments with little to no SE's...
-
Wow, a month and no one has posted. Here's hoping all is good with each of you. I go back under the knife tomorrow for re excision to get more clear margins from the lump. The SNB was totally clear, so that is the up side of my life. If I do not get back here beforehand, Have a very Merry Christmas. HUGS, Nancy
-
Hi Nancy!
Hope your surgery went well today. Let us know how it went.
-
Hi all: I was a day ahead of myself. Surgery is tomorrow ( Wednesday ) - no food or drink and I do not report until noon... caffeine withdrawal and a growling stomach... give me some Ativan... lol.
-
Hey guys...I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, etc. etc. I have not been posting much ~ seems like I just can't get it together. I am getting an MRI on my ankle - doc says it may be time for the ankle replacement surgery (hasn't healed from the fall I took a month ago) and I am just having a heck of a time with headaches, muscle aches, bone pain and stomach pain...I swear my body has gone to pot. There's not a muscle, joint or bone that isn't giving me problems. I fly to Florida this weekend, it will be interesting to see if it improves iwth the weather change...Thank God I have pain meds for my ankle or I'd go insane! I think I should be posting this on the "b*tch" thread though
Just didn't want you all to think I abadoned you...have a happy...be safe if you're traveling...
-
Hi ladies,
Just checking up! When is the next time you are all getting together?
Has anyone used Dr. Roberta Gartside in Reston for their ps?
Dani
-
Hi everyone - haven't been on the boards in awhile - I've been kinda depressed and not feeling like connecting but I'm trying to get myself together - had my last chemo treatment last week
I hope everyone is doing well, that you all have Happy Holiday's with family and friends and that the new year brings us all good health
Dani - Dr. Gartside is my PS why?
Monique
-
Hi (((( everyone ))):
Happy, Merry Holidays to each of you and your families. Do you want to meet at some place like the food court at Tyson's Mall or Pentagon City Mall ? It gives the option of getting a meal or snack while we meet and talk.
I wonder if the weekend before the inauguration is a good one to meet (Jan 17 or 18). I think everyone knows of Tyson''s mall, but for those who may not know, Pentagon City Mall is indoors also and 3 stories of shops. It is very Metro friendly - just get off and never go outside to get to the stores. Parking at Tyson's is free, but pretty expensive at Pentagon City Mall. Any suggestions are welcome.
Bonnie and Monique - gentle hugs for your pains and funky mood. BTW, my re excision went well and I did not use any pain meds the next day. The next day (dec 17) I had my load dose of Herceptin to begin that every 3 weeks. The final path report/appointment is Dec 26. I am so ready to put this all behind me and begin the new year with as few doctor appointments as possible.
God Bless, Nancy

I would love to meet. I'd prefer Tysons.
-
My vote is Tysons also, but I'm flexible
-
Is Saturday or Sunday a better day for anyone who wants to meet? Noon Is a good time, I think.
-
Hi -- I live in Montgomery County, MD, and since Maryland ties with Washington state for the highest rate of breast cancer, I'm sure there must be some MD BC sisters out there, but you NoVA ladies seem to be more organized.
I posted on the Gatherings board about trying to have a get-together in early Feb. (So far there's one other person.) I'd love to meet whoever is up to getting out.
Gentle hugs for those in the midst of treatment.
Maxie
-
Montgomery County here, too, Maxie... I'm upcounty. Nice to see you, sorry under these circumstances...
-

Nancy

I haven't abandoned you guys for real, just for a short time. February 7? great! It will be nice to "see" how everyone is doing.
Life's been crazy, besides the holidays, my father-in-law passed away on 12/10. He is certainly in a better place! Cancer sucks - ALL of them!! It was nice having my youngest home from college - EXCEPT - for the constant "trail" of Ryan throughout the house!
Dani - did you check out Wendy Gottlieb? pm me if you have some questions!
Bonnie - sorry to hear you are having so much trouble - saying a prayer!
Stay warm everyone!
