Day 2 (TC) - I didn't realized  how bad I felt yesterday until I woke up this morning! Overslept 'til 9AM! My taste is definately off, peanut butter just didn't taste right this morning, soup was ok, then I swang by Walmart to run a few errands, forgot my bottle of water. My mouth is really dry, so I started craving watermelon, of course, not in season! so I settled for an apple that juste didn't taste right, tried grapes, they were horrible. I hope this taste issue doesn't stick for 18 weeks, because we love to eat in this house! By the time I left the store, I because very sluggish and out of it, it was time for me to go home. I guess I'm thankfull that I'm not dealing with nausea.

Karen - Sorry to hear you're going down this road again, but you'll find the ladies here very nice & helpfull. TC isn't as harsh as AC, I think most ladies here aren't having much nausea with TC. Today is day 2 for me and still no nausea, took my pill as they told me, but I really had none.

sdavis - sorry you're switching to 6 rounds, but TC isn't as hard on your body as the other ones. I have to bring more food next time, hubby stuck around so I sent him for lunch, but I'll be going alone from now on, so I have to be prepared for lunch.

Hi ya'll.  Boy, what a difference a day makes!  Today it has been one week since my 1st round of TC.  Yesterday was terrible and now I feel SO MUCH better today.  I went in for labs and my counts are good.  White count is a little high but that was expected.  Yesterday and Sunday were my worst days so far.  I had horrible bone aches in my upper legs, hips and back.  I started out with a little bit of a low red count so maybe that is why, I don't know.  I also got to get a little more saline added to my expanders today.  I actually look like I have boobs again!!  I didin't think they meant that much to me until I saw them "growing"` again.  They are kind of strange looking and far apart, but, at least they are coming back.  LOL  I hope everyone else is recovering from their first round and those of you starting soon - good luck.  Welcome to our new girls.

What an amazing group of women!    You guys are great!

Simvog -- thanks again for keeping our list up to date.

I have been really lucky.   I feel great.   Today is day 6 (counting tx day) for me and all I can "complain" about is that I seem to burp a lot!    I might be a little more tired than usual, but not bad.    I've been working since Monday with no issues.    I have been craving carbs, though the chemo nurse told me to eat red meat and veggies with iron.   So tonight I had a steak dinner and a spinach salad!

I got my hair cut off tonight.    I don't like my hair short, but I felt like I needed to cut it short before it started falling out next week.    I asked if there was any chance I wouldn't lose my hair and the nurse said, with the FEC, I'm going to lose it EVERYWHERE!    OK.   Won't have to shave the legs for a few months!    There's a bright side!   I need to get my Mom and Sis and go wig shopping this weekend.

I have a port and while I'm pretty sure that it's a good thing and it makes the tx easier.... it freaks me out more than anything.   I don't like to touch it and try not to look at it.    I still have strips of tape that they told me to just let wear off by themselves.    It doesn't hurt, but it's somehow much more bothersome to me than anything else so far.

Cebula - I saw one of your posts about "having this chemo inside my body".   I decided to think of my chemo as the PowerPuff girls, fighting off the cancer cells.    So having them there is a good thing.    C'mon -- have you ever known the PP girls to lose?   They kick butt!

Hang in there divas!    We can do this!!!!

Thanks BreastCancer Diva :) I know, the bright side is that it will kill cancer cell, but even my onc said that I MIGHT already be cancer free! I hate that there isn't a way to tell if there are any cancer cells alive in your body, that would make life so much easier.

So still on day 2 and starting to get joint pain in my knee. My grand-mother told me to drink cherry juice, she said it helps joints. Will have to try. Other than that, I've had little cramping all day. About the lack of taste, I had a brownie after dinner, while it wasn't bad nor great, it was still addictive! I could barely taste it, yet I wanted another piece, weird...

Cebula - I have heard from other people on the cmf thread to stay active and sometimes that helps the joint pain.  I am getting pains also and if it is when I am going to bed I just take two tylenol and it seems to help.

Meg511 & Firni - I want to wish you both GOOD LUCK!! today.  Be strong and you will see that the anticipation is worse then the tx.  Bring someone or something with you to keep you distracted if you can.  Let us know how you made out.  Remember this is a good thing to make sure that this CANCER gets out of our bodies!!!

Colleen - Thanks, didn't think about that. With TC, which one is best? Tylenol or Ibuprofen? I used to take Aleve for knee pain, I should try it again. Woke up with it this morning, so I'm scared it will only get worse with the day.

    Meg511 & Firni - Good luck today :)

Goodmorning Ladies, I GOT MY HAIR CUT!  It is shorter than my son and my husband's hair!  I don't think I'll even need to get it shaved when it starts to shed, that's how short the back is.  What a weird feeling for someone who has had shoulder length hair or longer all of her life.  It's weird when you move your head and nothing, I mean nothing moves!  It was the best thing I did to get to the next step.  The cut is cute, I'd never do it normally and now I won't care if it falls out! ( I hope)  I'm taking my 86yr old grandma and my 13yr old daughter to my wig fitting today.  That should be fun.  It's day 7 after TC, counting the day I went and I'm really back to normal.  My DH convinced me to take the day off and do something fun and have me time, since all of my days off have been filled with Dr. appts or feeling not quite myself, and I thought, he's right, I deserve a day to play, so my daughter played hooky with me.

Ladies, I don't have a port, but I used to help put them in and we never gave restrictions to our pts.  So I think you're on the right track.

Karen, So sorry you have to join.  One thing to remember is the anti-nausea meds have greatly improved since your last round with Chemo.  They say the Chemo drugs are as strong as ever, but the anti-nausea meds are even stronger.  So you can kick some cancer butt without feeling to bad.  I live in York, PA which is just south of Harrisburg.

LisaSayers, your daughter sounds like a real inspiration, to be that young and deal with something like alopecia.  I know it's not life threatening, but it's certainally a big deal in a young girl's life.  So no more moaning about my hair from now on!  Does she let some of her scalp show when she wears her scarves?  Just wondering, I've been trying different tying techniques, one of these days my DH will find me all tangled up in a mess of scarves!

Have a great day girls, and do something today that makes you feel good!

Thnking of you all today and wishing the best for everyone.  Today, I actually feel like myself (Day 8 after TX).  About an hour after I wrote that the other shoe had dropped yesterday, it was as if my energy kicked back in -- need to ask the nurse about that.  My husband grilled pork chops last night and the meat actually tasted great!  (Meat has been like cardboard to me since the TX!)  The hair all goes this weekend.  I have a wig -- which I have worn to work for a couple of days this week to get everyone used to my new look.  My colleagues tell me it looks really good.  I find it strange after long hair in a french braid for so many years -- but several co-workers and family members have told me the style of the wig has taken 10 years off me . I used to be taken for 10 years younger than my age - so this is not a bad thing!

    We are a strong group!

Cinda:  I think that it is great that you are taking a day for yourself and even more that you are including you daughter.  My daughter is also 13 and I know she is going through a lot between me and my mom.  I told both my kids from day one that I would never lie to then and I would keep them informed with everything I learned.  She must thrilled that you are including her in your wig selection.  It will not be so frightening to her it she is with you in the decision making.  Let us know how you make out.  Have A Great Day!!!!

Today is day 6 and I woke up feeling good! It was great to wake up and not feel nauseous. All in all I have done really well I think. (Mainly just tired and nauseous.) It seems like for me Day 3-5 were the worst.

We're a little freaked out here in Texas over the weather right now. We might have sleet ad/or some "snow" later today. Very out of the ordinary for us!

I started chemo begining of oct.  Everyone reacts different to chemo.  I think it

also depends on what chemo they are going to use.   I'm done with the first set

Adriamycian and Cytoxin.  I did very well on this.  Just felt a little nausea.  If

I kept food in me I was fine.  Only had to take my Anti-nausea pills twice.  I will

be starting on Taxotere and Herceptive 3 days before Christmas.  I've heard Taxotere

has more side-effects.  I feel the same way.  I just pray a lot!!!  I'm also eating everything

organic (as much as possible) and cut out sugar.  I heard this feeds the cancer.

    Hey CindaD

My daughter does not let any of her scalp show when she wears the scarves.  She looks great in them...I can't wait to see how I will look!  Lately she has been wearing a little black cap under the hats she finds....as many hats you can see through, and she doesn't like how that looks.  It's amazing how much her eyes stand out now....and she has beautfiul green eyes.

It has been hard on her....but she is handling it with grace!  Thank you!

This is day six for me (treatment day was day 1).  Yesterday I felt great, just some bone pain from the neulesta...but I went back to teaching my Zumba class and it was great.  I told my class that I may have to stop and for them to keep going, but I never needed a break...poor them! LOL

I hope each treatment goes the same for me....making Monday my worst day.  I still have the bad taste in my mouth, but it hasn't prevented me from eating! LOL  I don't want anything that is sweet....still wanting the salt and spicy stuff, which seems to be the only thing that tastes good.  I've also been eating a lot of fresh veggies...but that is normal for me anyway!

My skin has really dried out and is itching, so I'm just putting on more lotion!

Cebula...I'm only allowed to take Tylenol....which really doesn't work for me!

    Good luck Divas....

Hi Divas!  You all are so awesome.  I am feeling very good again today and reading all your posts just inspires me to keep going.  I worked out at "Curves" yesterday after work and it felt great.  I was able to do all machines except for one and that was just due to my left arm still being sore from the node dissection.

Cinda, I'm so thrilled for you and your new cut!  It's liberating, isn't it??  Mine is really really short in the back too!

Cat, we have really cold weather here too. Stay warm!!

Love and hugs to all, and to those starting today.  :)

To the TC ladies that have started last week... How are you all feeling this week? Reason I'm asking is that my parents are wanting to visit for the New Year. They're looking at getting here the day before/of/or after my TC#2 which is Dec. 29th. I'm debating as wether it's a good idea or not! Going through chemo right now, I think I should please myself first instead of others, they're retired so it doesn't matter to them when they visit, but I think they'd like to be here for the New Year itself. But seeing how I'm feeling right now (and I'm only on day 3!) I'm thinking it might be best if they would visit a week after treatment. Plus my mom is a GREAT cook, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the good food and wine ;) Or even the week before, but we celebrate Christmas with hubby's family and I don't think they want to tag along, but it's only 2 days... What do you all think? I don't think that the first week after tx is a good idea?

Cebula, after 1st TC my worst days were days 5,6 and 7.  Yesterday was exactly 1 week from 1st treatment and I felt almost normal again.  If next treatment goes that way, I bet you would be fine if the family comes to visit you at least a week after your treatment.  I don't know if each treatment will have similar side effects or if it will be different.  I think that's what worries me, just wondering if we will have differen SE's or if they will be the same.  My nurse told me they preferred me to take Tylenol and I wasn't really supposed to take ibuprofen, but if that was all that would give me some relief I could take some occasionally.

Firni and Meg, I hope all goes well for you today!

Firni, thank you for your kind words when I was talking about my Mom.  They meant a lot coming from someone who has been through the same thing.  Mom died suddenly, at age 63, of a heart attack, too.

Zuffa, that is exactly how I felt Monday.  I started out very bad aches and tired and then around 6:30 or 7pm it was like someone flipped a switch and there was no more pain and my energy returned.  It was great!

Lisasayer, you amaze me doing your Zumba class and everything.  You sound so full of life.  I love it. Your daughter is an inspiration, too.

Elaine, good for you for working out.  I think I'll drag the treadmill out.  You girls have inspired me.

Cinda, have fun on your girls day out.  Don't let your Grandmother talk you into anything too wild or crazy!  LOLSurprised

Qu about second treatment - my second treatment was supposed to be on Dec 26 (21days from Dec 5) but my onc office is closed for the holiday and I am scheduled for the 29th. Is anybody else having her treatment off the schedule? My onc said it doesn't have to be exact at 21 days. Is this right or is she just excusing herself for her vacation? I understand is Christmas, I do celebrate myself, but I want to make sure this is the right thing to do.

    simvog,

My 2nd treatment should be on Dec. 25, but I'm having it on the 24th. I tried for the 26th but the offices will be closed. I know mine was only moved up a day, but it seems like "shuffling a few days" is fairly normal.

Hope this puts you at ease a little...

Cebula - This is my day 8 and I have felt fine since day 1 (except I slept through day 3) - assuming my SEs are the same for tx2, please send your Mom my way on the 29th and she can cook and I will eat!!!    *smile*  Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that the reaction to each tx is the same, so basically, it's a crap shoot!  If you don't feel like eating, she can cook and freeze for when you do!

My second tx is Christmas eve - my oncologist is on vacation; however, txs still go on and another onc in the building will cover for him -- they were pretty adamant about the 21 days.  Guessing they may be closed on Christmas day.

Well, the planes tickets are bought and they'll be here from the 28th to January 5th! Oh well, they have been warned that I probably won't be feeling to well, so they can be great entertainment for the kids ;) Hope I feel better on day 8 though because I just realized that I have my citizenship appt on Jan. 5th! I applied for it 1.5 years ago, way before I knew I had cancer and have already rescheduled my appt twice, so I have to go to that one. But as hubby said, better get a picture now that I still have hair, otherwise my certificate of citizenship would have the picture of a bald woman on it! LOL! Then again, it would make for a great reminder.

I did talk to one of the nurse and she says that ibuprofen is fine. A few years ago, I used to have bad pain in my knee and I found that Aleve was the best pain killer for that pain. She gave me the ok and it seems to be working well. So thankfull I didn't have the neulesta shot, she said it would have been worse.

Brenny - can't believe you having tx#2 on Christmas Eve!

    Day 6 TX1

Felt much better today. No more nausea,  just tired. I don't have any other SEs except for burping - just like BreastCancerDiva and my smell is super sensitive. I can't use my face cream, so I switched to an unscented one.

Simvog, tx #2 is due on the 25th and I moved it to the 29th, they said no big deal and I don't care if I lay on the couch on New Year's since we only watch movies that night normally, we're real partiers here!  Ibuprofen worked for the body aches for me as well, I took some and then called my oncologist to ask his permission!

Well ladies, I love, love, love my wig, it doesn't look anything like my real hair color or style and I think that's what I like best about it.  My grandmother and daughter had a blast looking at all of the wigs!  When I went to pay for it, the lady said that Santa came early and put a $100.00 deposit on my wig!  That was a surprise from my best friend who has heard about all of my hair issues and listened so very patientally.  Can you believe that?  My daughter took pictures of the whole thing, we're making a scrapbook of this whole journey, I think she wants to call it......Hair, here today, gone tomorrow.  It's a working title for the moment.

I hope everyone continues to have good days ahead.  I just love this discussion board, you all are the greatest.  God Bless.

Hi ladies.  I've been home from my first dip in the chemo pool for a few hours now.  I feel totally normal so far.  The infusion was no big deal.  No funny tastes, no stuffy sinus, nothing.  Just had to go to the bathroom at least once an hour while I was there.  My nurse told me I can take Ibuprofen or tylenol, which ever I like.  But not to take it every four hours for several days.  If I have that much pain she wants me to call to get something else.  I have no pain yet.  She told me to rub tea tree oil on my nail beds to keep them from turning color and getting weak.  Too bad  tea tree oil stinks.  She also told me to take a Claritin tonight to help combat aches from the Neulasta shot tomorrow.  But since it is a non-drowsy formula, I think I'll wait till morning to take it.

I had to have my chemo schedule changed a little bit with Christmas and New Year.  I'll be having #2 on 12-30.

Caroline, I would think your folks will understand if you aren't your usual self.  Why didn't you have the Neulesta shot?  Is the cherry juice helping?  Where are you from?

Brenny, I'm sure my clinic is closed on Christmas Eve.  You go to a real die hard place to be giving tx on Christmas Eve.

Be careful on those snowy roads today Cat.  I lived in Alabama for a while and though it was so funny that everything would close for two inches of snow.  Then I saw how people drove in it and I understood.  I'm originally from WI and spent 4 years in Alaska, so snow is no biggie for me.

Cinda, congrats on the short cut and I hope you had a blast wig shopping.  I'll be curious to see when our hair does go away.  My nurse said I will probably still have hair for my 2nd treatment but after that it will be gone.  I didn't think it would take over three weeks to fall out.

This group really is remarkable.  As we start to know more about each other and the trials in our lives and how we all just press on, no matter what.  It is awesome.  We are awesome.

I'm so encouraged that every one seems to be feeling pretty good a week after tx.

    Rock on Divas!!!

Cinda - That was so sweet of your friend. Isn't that nice to have such people in our lives? You'll have to show us a picture of that wig ;)

My MIL got her test results, she was told a couple weeks ago that she had cervical cancer. They got it all and she's all clean & done :) Wouldn't is be nice if it was that easy for us too! Also her breast ultrasound showed that she has a cluster of cysts, so no cancer there. Yeah!

Firni - The nurse said that my blood count was so high that I didn't need the shot. It all depends on the blood count or whichever blood test they run before chemo. Didn't try the cherry juice yet, really I didn't get out of the house today, I was pretty sluggish & achy. I'm from MD.

Is is nice to have all of you to be able to talk to :)
