As I explained up above, my wife was diagnosed with invasive BC and I came here originally seeking information, especially about cemotherapy, and the women were very gracious in giving it.  I then decided to stick around to contribute what I could on the issue of insurance.  By the way, my Blaesti ID has already been terminated :-).  One of the women from the Republican Thread will complain and this one will be gone, and then it will take me about 45 seconds to go to Blaesti3. If the moderators ever got smart they would try to terminate me via my IP address, but then I could simply use a Proxy to get through.  This is actually getting pretty ridiculous.  I am doing nothing whatsoever to interfere with the BC message boards and you would think they would give this thread a little more free reign.  Oh well.

As for the other thread, I have read them up until now. I just cannot stomach them anymore and will not read anymore. They do not understand what debate and balance are all about, they only believe their own rhetoric. I was not a fan of Obama but am glad he is in for the next 4 years. I agree with Tracy!

First of all I'm sorry that your wife has breast cancer, and as a husband, friend, and caregiver, you have every right to be here.  Thats what this site is all about.  You say this thread doesn't have anything to do with breast cancer, and I tried to explain to you in my last post why it has everything to do with breast cancer.  At least it does for me.

Some of those women who you are calling "small minded" are some of my dearest friends.  They helped me through rough times and 3 1/2 years later we are still here.  Some people just don't agree with others and when that happens I believe that you should just use the ignore button.  Because I bet you have some good things to offer as a family members perspective. 

Anyways, back to politics. Am I hearing things wrong on CNN or is the RNC going after McCain?

Blaestr, I think it's generally true (except in CA) that states that have the highest tax rates also have the best schools, and vice-versa.  Money certainly isn't a guarantee of quality, but not having enough is a guarantee of mediocrity. 

I don't think we should bail out the automakers unless they agree to produce fuel-efficient cars and install new management and corporate structure.  I read a prediction that if the automakers are allowed to go under, the unemployment rate will rise to 9 percent.  The ripple effect on the economy would be enormous.  I would rather my tax dollars go to retraining and retooling the auto industry than to executives in the banking industry.  Yes, credit drives the economy, but if customers have no money to spend, or aren't willing to spend, what are businesses borrowing money for?  Seems like we need to attack the problem from multiple angles, not just the Wall Street angle.  Unfortunately the Dems are limited in what they can do before January, as Bush is going to veto anything they come up with.  

But, as Obama has said, we need to address healthcare issues at the same time, as a lot of the economic strain has come from rising health costs.  We need many big minds working overtime in Washington!   Just wish economics were a science and not an art. 

Well, it took me a while to catch up--and my words today harken back several pages...so sorry about that, but I thought this information was important to all of us as the GLBT community has been censored--just like the Jews in WWII. Enough already. I have already signed the petition and voiced my displeasure to my state reps. So, the excerpts I post are from the Thursday edition of the San Jose Mercury News. Op ed article by Ann Ravel, Santa Clara County Counsel.

 Santa Clara County's decision to join San Francisco and the city of Los Angeles in challenging Prop 8 in court is not only about marriage or about sexual orientation discrimination, as important as those issues are to our community. It is about far deeper principles that bind us together.

When the people of California drafted our state constitution, we agreed that certain rules were at the core of the government we created. The right to equal treatment under the law is one of those guiding principles, crafted to guard all of us from unfair treatment and from making discriminatory decisions we later regret as a community. Tis why the county petitioned the California Supreme Court to bar enforcement of the initiative.

Our country's painful history has shown us that not every decision is best left to the will of the majority. Recognizing that minorities will always be vulnerable to discrimination by majorities, the people of California created the rule of equal protection as a core principle in the state constitution. A system of courts was given the responsibility for protecting the right to equality, especially for groups that might be targeted by the prejudice of the moment.

...Allowing a majority of voters to undercut the court's core role in protecting vulnerable minorities would distort the initiative process and upset the equality principle that makes our democratic system of government work.

If a majority of voters may amend the constitution to strip same-sex couples of their constitutional right to equal protection, a majority could  just as easily declare by initiative that people of color can be discriminated against in public employment or that Jews cannot use public facilities without a special permit. Voters in Santa Clara County recognize the importance of these principles, and more than 55% voted to reject Prop 8.

The California Supreme Court has held that all couples have a right to be treated equally when it comes to the important institution of marriage. In May, the Court recognized that laws that treat people differently based on immutable characteristics like sexual orientation are subject to the strictest level of scrutiny by the courts. The Court ruled that our constitution does not allow us to treat gay and lesbian people unequally by "reflecting an official vlew that their committed relationships are of lesser stature than the comparable relationships of opposite-sex couples." Therefore, the court concluded, excluding same-sex couples from marriage is discriminatory and violates our equal protection clause.

...This county is part of the legal challenge to Prop 8 because we recognize the impor†ance of upholding our most cherished legal principles. If California is allowed to vote our way back into discrimination, we betray the values that are centrol to our society. The challenge to Prop 8 upholds the social pact of equality that helped form the foundation of our society and ensures that each of us can count on fair treatment under the law.

I absolutely agree with Ravel, and all others opposing Prop 8. I believe that the Prop passed only because of the pro ads that were filled with lies, and incited fear in the voters. The ads claimed that marriage would be taught in public schools for children as young as 2nd grade and showed young children reading books that were titled "a king marries a king" and used Mass as an example.  Absolutely filthy lies. Unfortunately, there are still bigoted and prejudiced people in our state who will never change. But the ads played to the fear, just like all the conservative ideas do in our country. They used words like "protect and restore traditional marriage." Like somehow, these words can only be applied to straight people. How would these bigoted people feel if a prop was passed that didn't allow them to get divorced? Personally, that might restore their idea of traditional marriage more quickly and honestly--especially when straight couples account for (all by themselves mind you) over 50% of the divorces in this country. Hello...and then GA doesn't want a single parent to adopt a child? WTH? So should divorced parents be forced to give up their children because a single parent can be a good person to raise their children. This prop 8 makes absolutely no sense at all. It was ridiculous to even come before the voters. It should have been nixed when it was submitted by the CA Supreme Court. Grrrrrrr!! I get so angry with the stupidity of some people. Like how does this "threaten" the bigots?

Enough said. Just wanted to throw my thoughts and knowledge in here.

 Oh my goodness, it's so funny how the conservatives are sooooooooo ready to judge and point fingers at life styles that they dont agree with. When in actuality they have some of the biggest skeletons in their closets that you ever wanted to lay eyes on. They often use the bible to justify why certain life styles are wrong, but if they truly believed they would let people live their lives and know that God has the final word, NOT THEM!! People in glass houses should not throw rocks!! I mean they frighten me. They would rather have some one who thought Africa was a country leading their nation, all for the sake of being conservative!! Give me a break!! I do LOVE God, and so do millions of gay people but I know that nobody is in a position to judge or dictate what someone chooses to do with and in their life.

Try downloading Mozilla Firefox for free (Google it for the website). If you log on via Firefox, you'll be able to highlight, bold, italicize and hyperlink and you shouldn't have the font issues you are having now...
