Rocket, was it not your post under another thread publicly complaining about my multiple ID's.  If not, I apologize to you and if so, absolutely pathetic.

Blaest...if you didn't have BC and you're a Man, why did you come here?

As I explained up above, my wife was diagnosed with invasive BC and I came here originally seeking information, especially about cemotherapy, and the women were very gracious in giving it.  I then decided to stick around to contribute what I could on the issue of insurance.  By the way, my Blaesti ID has already been terminated :-).  One of the women from the Republican Thread will complain and this one will be gone, and then it will take me about 45 seconds to go to Blaesti3. If the moderators ever got smart they would try to terminate me via my IP address, but then I could simply use a Proxy to get through.  This is actually getting pretty ridiculous.  I am doing nothing whatsoever to interfere with the BC message boards and you would think they would give this thread a little more free reign.  Oh well.

Blaest- maybe you should try a different name and keeping a low profile. You've obviously got a clique against you and they can be relentless. If they don't like you, watch out--- you can't interfere unless they allow you to. Just ignore them and you'll be fine.

Has anyone been trying not to follow Palin's media tour? How can someone have so many "exclusive" interviews, at what point to they begin not to be exclusive? She's such a narcissist and doesn't seem to have a real feel for what her party or her country needs. The whining about not being able to speak on election night, the replay of her greatest hits at the governor's mtg that was supposed to be about moving forward, the martyr, the matrix, the liar, the clueless. The comedians hope against hope that she will run in 2012, the republican leaders hope she'll disappears and the dems... well they're just having a good ole laugh and glad she's one one of us.

Exactly, a relentless clique coming up against an immovable object.  I just don't give in that easily.  Its just not me :-)  Anyway, I think I am in the right.  But I do appreciate the advice.  Keep up the good fight against the master manipulators and whiners.  Obama has so many people excited.  Its something I have never observed in all of my adult life.

Amy, you are welcome. If any of the articles are interesting then post them here.

    Rock, I loved those quips!

As for the other thread, I have read them up until now. I just cannot stomach them anymore and will not read anymore. They do not understand what debate and balance are all about, they only believe their own rhetoric. I was not a fan of Obama but am glad he is in for the next 4 years. I agree with Tracy!

Palin just seems to be too outrageous to be real...She clearly is obsessed with herself and sees her brief show in the limelight as the stepping stone to power, money, Saks, and Super Stardum.  She'd probably be just as happy as a rock singer.  She doesn't even seem to understand what a total embarrassment she is to her party and to the rest of us... problem is, many of these outrageous demagogs that we think are so ridiculous actually get taken seriously because they "appeal to popular prejudices, emotions, fears and expectations of the public - typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist or populist themes" (from the definition of Demagogy in Wikipedia).. by the silent majority, people who are a bit mystified about the dynamics of the gov't and the economy and take the simplistic view that it is always purposely being screwed up by somebody and if only someone simple like themselves could take the helm, someone they can understand, all will be well.

First Sarah, now Miss Teen America and the teenagers in this country who can't find the U.S.l on a map...this blows me away...Ah, the fallacies of the American dream..how blissful it is to be ignorant!!!

Roctober:  I just got home and once again after a stressful work day, you made me laugh.  I loved #3 with Africa being far from Alaska.

Amy:  Coming here to Moving Beyond is probably what keeps me sane!  Much nicer than insane lol.

Janet:  Hi to you, it's been along time since I have seen you.  How is your little girl?

Linora:  Thats my concern.  She might just become popular!

Now I would like to comment on the quote posted belowe!

" So I am no more of an intruder than you are, except I don't personally suffer from Breast Cancer, my wife does.   I wasn't aware it was a prerequisite to be personally suffering from breast cancer to offer opinions on a purely political thread having nothing to do with breast cancer whatsoever.  But you know, if you can't see that, if you can't think independently for yourself rather than listening to what the small minded women say, that's really your problem."

First of all I'm sorry that your wife has breast cancer, and as a husband, friend, and caregiver, you have every right to be here.  Thats what this site is all about.  You say this thread doesn't have anything to do with breast cancer, and I tried to explain to you in my last post why it has everything to do with breast cancer.  At least it does for me.

Some of those women who you are calling "small minded" are some of my dearest friends.  They helped me through rough times and 3 1/2 years later we are still here.  Some people just don't agree with others and when that happens I believe that you should just use the ignore button.  Because I bet you have some good things to offer as a family members perspective.

Anyways, back to politics. Am I hearing things wrong on CNN or is the RNC going after McCain?

So...what's everyone thinking about the mess that is going on with the bail out???  This is becoming insane!!  So many working poor, and so many people being evicted from their homes while the bank that has OUR money is hording it!!!  Instead of lending it back to us with interst, as was the initial goal.  And that was still a bogus thought as far as I'm concerned.  While Wall St. big-wigs still get their millions in end of year bonuses!  I can't take it anymore.  W has checked out, but not officially. I don't envy Barack with all the problems he has coming into this mess.  The repubs have just lined their pockets for the past 8 years and we are all paying the price and left cleaning up their mess.  I know this has personally effected me and I'm sure many many others.  I just keep waiting for something to turn around.  Do we really have to wait until Jan.?  It's ridiculous.  W should do the right thing and resign now.  And now they finally admit that the bail out stratagy was a bad move....duh!!  But we are still going to pay for it.  I am so angry with the mis-use and abuse of our tax dollars!

blaest- I wasn't talking about moving easily as much as I was talking about directing energy toward positive vs negative people. Obama having so many people excite excites me and leaves me in tears.

linora-  Palin is like a poorly written sitcom character. Her lack of awarness for things not Sarah Palin continues to amaze me. Narcissism to the nth degree.

laura- how can we take bets when we're on the same side as you LOL. You'd be better off asking a repub who's part of her fan club to take that sucker deal Wink.

g- the bail out is an agregious example of incompetency and lack of oversite. It's become a joke.

    tracey- I LOVE your enthusiasm.

Bill Ayers is on GMA-- I really like him- though Cuomo is doing a bad job interviewing Ayers. I bet he's a great professor.

Little G...I am very concerned about the bailouts too.  On election day, I heard on the radio that the Bush administration had borrowed HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS for October and was planning on borrowing ANOTHER 1/3 TRILLION DOLLARS in November.  Now with the auto bailout I am sure that November figure has doubled.  THIS IS INSANE!!  I say, don't throw good money after bad.

The economy is in a rotten mess and perhaps the best thing to do is let all those businesses that can't survive die a natural death.  But I say this not really knowing what the ultimate consquences of that would be...for sure there would be job losses and further losses...but where does this all end?!!!!  The money that is lent to these crippled corporations seems to disappear faster than it is given.  I suspect that Uncle George is just making sure that his buddy CEOs and Execs have a chance to take care of themselves before the economy takes the next nose dive.

Amy..you have a real talent with words...couldn't have said it better myself.  I don't think her presidential ambitions will ever amount to anything either; all these latest press leaks about her gaffes are coming from the GOP themselves, they don't want anything more to do with her.  Maybe she should aim a little lower, like becoming the first female spokeswoman for the NRA.

I live in a county that is a republican stronghold.  Overwhelmingly voted for Mccain this election.  Everytime the County Commissioners try to get a tax increase for the schools, when it goes up for vote it is ALWAYS turned down by the voters.  The republicans, at least in my county, are more concerned about their taxes than they are about ensuring the kids are well educated.  Maybe that's why teenagers cannot find the US on a Map, or why so many households don't have maps :-)

I don't understand why we need 3 american auto companies. Think merging and upgrading would be a far better use of  the economic resources. The US auto makers haven't been innovators in technology, environmental protection or cost effectiveness in ages.  Some people might lose jobs through consolidation, but there are plenty of green jobs they can be retrained to do. I'm sure we all remember when computers came into more common existence and people were afraid they would take away jobs? Well, PCs did take some jobs but those people found other jobs and we went on to have some of the lowest unemployment in history after a few bumps along the way.

I have so many ideas on this all swirling around in my head.

Amy...get those ideas out there!  Now that we were all loud and our Barack won, I think the economy is another area we need to be really loud about!!  This is such bull shit!!  It's a daily reaming of Americans.  How much can we take?  I'm not sure about bailing out the auto companies either.  Who's bailing any of us out?  What about the everyday person who is loosing their home, their jobs, who's helping? And it's our freakin money they're using to help all the big boys!  And they are still getting bonuses when many of us will not even have gifts for our kids at Christmas, or maybe someone is going without electricity or heat for their home??  Basic human needs are being ignored while the bail out of big corporations with our money goes on each day.  What is the answer here?  Where do we get our voices heard??

I already emailed my ideas to Obama during the primaries, not that I thought he would read them. I think we could use a bulk of the bailout towards making our country more green, but more specifically I'd like to see a portion of the money going towards discontinuing the older light bulbs and replacing them with the more energy efficient. The lightbulbs would go out free to low income people and seniors, who would be the ones to benefit most from the financial savings, and then go to others at cost. I haven't decided if it would be efficient to have them distributed and installed into Srs. and low income people. We could train displaced workers to go to low and middle income homes to make sure they are the most energy efficient. For the lower income folks the upgrades would be provided -- not that they would all get new windows, but that if the windows were losing heat they would help plug them up etc. Middle income folks could have the same upgrade service at cost. So we've lessened energy usage, retrained and hired displaced workers and helped the environment. This would mostly benefit northern folks, but across the country we'd also be manufacturing solar panels and windmills, retraining displaced workers and creating a new industry to make up for some of lost jobs. I really believe this investment in intrastructure would make up for some of the lost auto industry jobs, move our country forward, and save individuals and the government money in the long run. There might even be less of a need for heating grants to low income folks.

Blaestr, I think it's generally true (except in CA) that states that have the highest tax rates also have the best schools, and vice-versa.  Money certainly isn't a guarantee of quality, but not having enough is a guarantee of mediocrity.

I don't think we should bail out the automakers unless they agree to produce fuel-efficient cars and install new management and corporate structure.  I read a prediction that if the automakers are allowed to go under, the unemployment rate will rise to 9 percent.  The ripple effect on the economy would be enormous.  I would rather my tax dollars go to retraining and retooling the auto industry than to executives in the banking industry.  Yes, credit drives the economy, but if customers have no money to spend, or aren't willing to spend, what are businesses borrowing money for?  Seems like we need to attack the problem from multiple angles, not just the Wall Street angle.  Unfortunately the Dems are limited in what they can do before January, as Bush is going to veto anything they come up with.

But, as Obama has said, we need to address healthcare issues at the same time, as a lot of the economic strain has come from rising health costs.  We need many big minds working overtime in Washington!   Just wish economics were a science and not an art.

A little humor on why gay marriage should be banned ;)

10 Reasons why gay marriage is wrong...(you'll love this)

    1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

    2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

    3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

    4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

    5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

    6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

    7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

    8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

    9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

    10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Well, it took me a while to catch up--and my words today harken back several pages...so sorry about that, but I thought this information was important to all of us as the GLBT community has been censored--just like the Jews in WWII. Enough already. I have already signed the petition and voiced my displeasure to my state reps. So, the excerpts I post are from the Thursday edition of the San Jose Mercury News. Op ed article by Ann Ravel, Santa Clara County Counsel.

Santa Clara County's decision to join San Francisco and the city of Los Angeles in challenging Prop 8 in court is not only about marriage or about sexual orientation discrimination, as important as those issues are to our community. It is about far deeper principles that bind us together.

When the people of California drafted our state constitution, we agreed that certain rules were at the core of the government we created. The right to equal treatment under the law is one of those guiding principles, crafted to guard all of us from unfair treatment and from making discriminatory decisions we later regret as a community. Tis why the county petitioned the California Supreme Court to bar enforcement of the initiative.

Our country's painful history has shown us that not every decision is best left to the will of the majority. Recognizing that minorities will always be vulnerable to discrimination by majorities, the people of California created the rule of equal protection as a core principle in the state constitution. A system of courts was given the responsibility for protecting the right to equality, especially for groups that might be targeted by the prejudice of the moment.

...Allowing a majority of voters to undercut the court's core role in protecting vulnerable minorities would distort the initiative process and upset the equality principle that makes our democratic system of government work.

If a majority of voters may amend the constitution to strip same-sex couples of their constitutional right to equal protection, a majority could  just as easily declare by initiative that people of color can be discriminated against in public employment or that Jews cannot use public facilities without a special permit. Voters in Santa Clara County recognize the importance of these principles, and more than 55% voted to reject Prop 8.

The California Supreme Court has held that all couples have a right to be treated equally when it comes to the important institution of marriage. In May, the Court recognized that laws that treat people differently based on immutable characteristics like sexual orientation are subject to the strictest level of scrutiny by the courts. The Court ruled that our constitution does not allow us to treat gay and lesbian people unequally by "reflecting an official vlew that their committed relationships are of lesser stature than the comparable relationships of opposite-sex couples." Therefore, the court concluded, excluding same-sex couples from marriage is discriminatory and violates our equal protection clause.

...This county is part of the legal challenge to Prop 8 because we recognize the impor†ance of upholding our most cherished legal principles. If California is allowed to vote our way back into discrimination, we betray the values that are centrol to our society. The challenge to Prop 8 upholds the social pact of equality that helped form the foundation of our society and ensures that each of us can count on fair treatment under the law.

     End of Ravel opinion.

I absolutely agree with Ravel, and all others opposing Prop 8. I believe that the Prop passed only because of the pro ads that were filled with lies, and incited fear in the voters. The ads claimed that marriage would be taught in public schools for children as young as 2nd grade and showed young children reading books that were titled "a king marries a king" and used Mass as an example.  Absolutely filthy lies. Unfortunately, there are still bigoted and prejudiced people in our state who will never change. But the ads played to the fear, just like all the conservative ideas do in our country. They used words like "protect and restore traditional marriage." Like somehow, these words can only be applied to straight people. How would these bigoted people feel if a prop was passed that didn't allow them to get divorced? Personally, that might restore their idea of traditional marriage more quickly and honestly--especially when straight couples account for (all by themselves mind you) over 50% of the divorces in this country. Hello...and then GA doesn't want a single parent to adopt a child? WTH? So should divorced parents be forced to give up their children because a single parent can be a good person to raise their children. This prop 8 makes absolutely no sense at all. It was ridiculous to even come before the voters. It should have been nixed when it was submitted by the CA Supreme Court. Grrrrrrr!! I get so angry with the stupidity of some people. Like how does this "threaten" the bigots?

Enough said. Just wanted to throw my thoughts and knowledge in here.

Have a great day! I'm off to quilt group--the Valley Girls--no not that valley--we are smarter and more to the left!!

Last comment: Evidently Palin is not too popular with the 11 Repug Gov's that stood on the stage w/her--for a press conference--and was cut off after 4 questions--mmm. Well, Rachel is keeping track of our lame duck prez, the alaska stevens felon news, and Palin's melting all over the news channels--okay, my mute button is wearing out!! In the states and countries that have legalized gay marriage, the sky didn't fall down.  I think we stand with the intelligencia of the republican party in wanting Palin to use one of the muzzles they have up there in alaska, you betcha.

Oh my goodness, it's so funny how the conservatives are sooooooooo ready to judge and point fingers at life styles that they dont agree with. When in actuality they have some of the biggest skeletons in their closets that you ever wanted to lay eyes on. They often use the bible to justify why certain life styles are wrong, but if they truly believed they would let people live their lives and know that God has the final word, NOT THEM!! People in glass houses should not throw rocks!! I mean they frighten me. They would rather have some one who thought Africa was a country leading their nation, all for the sake of being conservative!!Yell Give me a break!! I do LOVE God, and so do millions of gay people but I know that nobody is in a position to judge or dictate what someone chooses to do with and in their life.

Obama won.  Yippee.  I'm honestly and truly very very happy about that.

But what about the trillions of dollars that Uncle George is borrowing to bail out the investment banks, investment firms, AIG, and GM???  Where is this money going????  To his buddy CEOs??

What is a trillion divided up by the typical size of an American family?  There are approximately 300,000,000 people in this country.  Let's say the average family is 3 people, so that gives us 100,000,000 households.

    1 000 000 000 000 / 100 000 000 = 10 000

OK, that's $1 trillion dollars in debt that we are incurring in the final months of this year, between election time and inauguration time, not counting the national debt already amassed.

    Someone check my math.  EEK!!!

    Surprised

    Linora,

I'm also a Mac user and found that this board - especially since they updated it - is not very Safari friendly.

Try downloading Mozilla Firefox for free (Google it for the website). If you log on via Firefox, you'll be able to highlight, bold, italicize and hyperlink and you shouldn't have the font issues you are having now...
