Positive Obama thread

Amy...awsome post!!!!! It is a very proud day indeed!!! I wish I could just zoom from state to state and take in a little piece of everything today! I do wish the troll would have pulled those ads today instead of bombarding us with them. I don't think it will gain him any votes right now. And it attempts to steal the history of today. Attempts...but is defeated! When we all come together like today....there's nothing like it!!!! Thank you Barack Obama for being the man you are!!! And for taking that giant step for the rest of us!!! And holding us all to a higher standard!
OBAMA' 08.....it's only hours away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Thank you Barack Hussein Obama Jr., and his mother Ann Dunham and his grandparents Stanley and Madelyn Dunham and to his father's genes Barack Hussein Obama Sr.--- yes Hussein--- we're taking back our country and redeeming the name Hussein in the eyes of the American people and the world. We don't let dictators scare us away from names in this country.
-
JUST AS SOON AS THE POLLS OPENED THIS MORNING MY DAUGHTER AND I DID OUR PART FOR OBAMA TO TAKE VIRGINIA---SURE HOPE VA. DOES UP PROUD BY GOING ALL THE WAY FOR OBAMA/BIDEN AND SENDS MS. PALIN BACK TO HER IGLOO.
-
Great to hear from you dottie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Back to the igloo for sure. (that's metaphoric for anyone who thinks we believe they live in igloos although I won't say I disbelieve in frozen brains...) LOL
-
The dirty little secret of our great Democracy is that we really aren't equiped to handle a full-participation election. In places where voter turnout is traditionally low, only one or two machines are available. Since record numbers are hitting the polls today (as not all states allow early voting), people are having to waiting for hours to cast their votes. Even my little podunk town had a line. Didn't have to wait long, but still had to wait a bit. It was very exciting, though! My son came into the booth with me and was actually upset that he couldn't vote ("You guys are voting for MY future!" was what he kept saying). He said he's registering to vote the day he turns 18, lol.
I think Black folks - whether we are voting for Obama or not - are proud because we KNEW he would be held to a higher standard simply because he's a Black guy with a funny name. Working twice as hard to get half the recognition is something we kind of expect believe it or not. And I really don't care if anyone from the other side agrees with me or not - it won't make it any less true. That "what if?" email Amy posted a few days ago about how opinions would have been very different if some of the things McCain/Palin did would have been done by Obama/Biden was sooo on pointe. Think we'd be celebrating Obama's success if he would have paraded his unmarried teen daughter across the stage at the DNC, finished near the bottom of his class or if Michelle had been adicted to pain pills allegedly stolen from an agency she represented? Ummmm...I think not.
I hope he wins, I really do, but I'm not convinced it is a done deal yet. Virginia and Pennsylvania are gonna be big. Might not get the landslide predicted earlier because of all the polling problems that will undoubtedly happen (funny how they mostly happen in economically challenged neighborhoods, huh?), but that's ok. A win is a win...
And as others have said, thank you, Amy, for starting this thread. And thank all of you folks who kept your cool when such ridiculous crap was being tossed over from the other side. I hope we get to toss some virtual confetti together, lol...

I just talked on the phone to my son who lives in Shanghai, China, and he said this election is on everybody's lips there. The whole world is watching like never before.
-
Just saw this link. It made me think about how the republicans are always accusing the media of being pro Obama even when reporting that he is ahead in the polls.
-
I will be so mad if PA doesn't go for Obama. I really think we will. We went for Gore and Kerry and I have faith that the polls are right--- we will go for Obama as well.
-
PIP- I know what you mean. If the media accuses McCain of trailing in the polls, it's reported as a negative story against McCain- I couldn't believe that--- since when is a factual poll a negative one? Should the media only report polls where he is ahead?
-
Wanted to chime in on positive OBAMA day ... I work for a union and we've been campaigning hard out here for Obama and our incumbent Dem Gov, Christine Gregoire. We are pretty excited that Obama will be VICTORIOUS and we are nervous/positive about our Guv... keeping fingers crossed...
Had to doubletake when I read "dottiebob" comment -- first time I've seen your name -- my DH is Bob... LOL. Greetings from the "left coast" !!
Dottie

I feel like I am holding hands with every single on of you.
nicki - i saw your glenda pic flash before my eyes as i cast my ballot this morning...:)
what a wonderful thought, all of us obama girls holding hands, circling the country as we cast our votes together.
i will hold that vision forever in my heart!
barack the vote ladies! from the eastern seaboard to the rocky mountains and on to the left coast...
Our Obama '08 Landslide is hours away...:)

Well it's been a bitter sweet day so far. I dressed in my best business suit, there was a line this morning so I was allowed to leave early. DH and I walked to our polling place. It was a beautiful day here in Illinois. It was sweet as he held my hand as we walked together to the school yard. There wasn't a line at all. We were the only two people there. I looked around and saw so many trees naked and ready for winter. The Season is changing and I felt so proud to be an American. I looked at each individual person and voted for who I wanted - not who was democrat or republican. I felt so proud as we walked back to our house. Then the bottom fell out. DH says he didn't know who he wanted and when he got to the polling place he voted all Republican - can you imagine? We are not speaking to each other at the moment. That girlish feeling I had when we were holding hands just flew our the window when he lowered the bomb on me. So I'm very nervous.
He did the same thing to me in 2000. I voted for Gore and he voted for Bush. Then complained about how Bush has been the worst president we have ever had. I feel like my vote was negated by his. Then it occurred to me. This is really all about race. And now I'm soooo worried. How many other undecided will do what my DH did. I could just smack him.
I'm 58 y/o and have been voting since since I could. I realized today I have never picked the winner!
Felicia: I cannot empathize with you because I'm Italian American. But I sure do understand what was written in your words. I pray Obama wins.
I'm going to go sulk for a while.
Nicki
-
Nicki...get your sulk in because this time, you DID pick the winner!!!! Forget what your DH did. He's in the minority this year...that's the beauty part of this!! Felicia's post was great! Now its time that we all come together!! This is a positive day and you are one of the Obama girls. Remember, we are all holding hands from coast to coast and every place in between! All bought together by this awesome man who represents so many of us, of all colors, of all back grounds! We can and we will BARACK this VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!
OBAMA '08...it's only a few more hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS..as I finished this post a giant roll of thunder passed over! Messages from the planet...change is on it's way!!
-
Nicki,
My h2b said he'd voted all Republican, too, when we got in the car - and I swear it felt like all the air had been sucked out of the van. Then he smiled that smile of his and said he was kidding. I wanted to beat him with my purse...
But I hear you, though. Hang in there. I have faith that the percentage of folks who won't vote for someone so unlike them isrelatively small. I also believe that there are more than a few Republicans who are saying "McCain!" to their friends/families and are pulling the lever for Obama when they are behind the curtain...
Time will tell for sure. But like the lottery, you've gotta be in it to win it; Rest assured you vote did count, my dear. For all the women who just 80 short years ago couldn't vote - you did! That's something to be proud of for certain...
edited to add: CBS should be ashamed of itself for editing that interview! That is akin to the photoshop darkening OJ's face to make him look more sinister that Time magazine did all those years ago. Completely unethical...
-
Nicki - look at it this way - you canceled your dingbat husband's vote! Tonight when the results start rolling in, you will feel all better!
Everybody, savor the amazing feelings we have today. Tomorrow we'll have to start enduring next round of mud-slinging as the wingnuts bend over backwards to minimize Obama's victory. Rush, Sean and Billo are all getting their talking points synced up as we speak.
-
You all are making me feel better. Thanks. DH is growing a gotee beard. He asked me how it looks and I told him he looks like Charles Manson! And he can eat dinner alone lol.
Nicki

Well for the record all 3 out of the 4 registered voters in my house showed up today and voted for obama. Unfortunately my son wanted to vote McCain but the military does not get their abesentee ballots in time to vote in war zones so he could not vote. i was so proud of his wife though because normally she would do what he wants because he is her life. this is the first decision she made on her own without him.
I really hope this comes out an Obama win but I never take anything for granted. I woke up sick today but made my only task was to vote (thankfully no lines when I showed up). Since then I have been back in bad and hope I feel well enough to stay up and watch the excitement come in this evening.
I really wanted to go to Chicago to be there to celebrate win/lose/draw because I believe Obama is a good decent man. He has wonderful composure and has the material a president of our country needs. If he loses I'll be shocked but I would really have loved to be part of the history making celebration!
In all honesty I hope McCain must come out fairly early in the evening to concede the election to the better oppent Mr Obama!
On one other note as a stage IV cancer patient it brings so many tears to my eyes that his grandmother could not hold on another day to watch the history making day that she was part of! So so sad! On a good note I do believe she is watching and enjoying from a better place with no pain from this dreaded disease!
-
LuAnn -
I'm really sorry you aren't feeling well today. Hopefully this won't be a late evening and you will perk up as you watch history being made in this country.
Feel better, dear friend!
Donna
P.S. It's disgraceful, in this day and age, we can't even manage to get ballots out in time for our troops to cast a vote. There is no excuse (although some on the other side want to blame Obama - how they make that leap in logic is curious!)
-
DottieW, I normally keep a low profile, but this election has gotten me all fired up---haven't thought about BC in weeks!!! All of you ladies have me feeling confident that when I wake in the morning we will have a new president and his name will be Barack Obama, so I am going to get out the popcorn and settle in for the night and pray for an Obama/Biden victory----- God bless America!
-
LuAnn..I'm glad you got your vote in! And I am sending positive energy your way too...feel better!!! I agree on your thoughts about Barack's grandmother. She has the front row seat on this! :-)

Hi Ladies...I just spent most of the day "phonebanking" at the Democratic Headquarters for our county. 've been going in as oftne as I can to do phonework...There were sooooo many goodies for the volunteers and staff to eat!
Everyone is so excieted...but afraid to be TOO excited yet.....There will be a party at a Thai eatery tonight. We went there to watch the last Debate.....What a night this is going to be!!! I can hardly wait.
I've optimistic, but so scared that Mc Cain will somehow pulll this off and win....Remember 2004? It will be hard to sleep tonight.....I'll be a wreck at work tomorrow!
We live in the Cincinnati area, so this is Republican country...But....There is a sense of change even here....I'm keeping my fingers...and toes...and everything else....crossed!!!
Gob Bless America!!!
Sandy

nicki- your vote in ILL won't really count anyway, since it'll be a landslide for Obama in illinois. let your husband off the hook on this one
(even though he's a fool).
felicia- I would have pulled out the purse-- that's not something you joke with me about.
My 7 yo neighbor told me that her school elected Obama yesterday. She was so excited to see my Obama signs (even though they';ve been up for months). She said she tried to get her mother to vote for Obama but it didn't work and when she grows up she's voting for Obama. I can't believe her mother voted for McCain and against her economic and feminine interests. If poor people voted in their economic interest there would never be a republican president LOL.
My flag is ready to go, I'll put it out the moment the race is called. Gobama!
-
Amy: Give DH a break lol. Ha not in a million years. He is gonna have to do something big to get over this one.
I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I have never felt anything like this before. What an election day this is.
Still holding all your hands and ready to get my flag and celebrate.
Nicki
-
Hey, DottieW - I'm a Washington girl, too.
After work I'll be stopping into vote. I hope people don't stay away because they think Obama's already got it in the bag...We need Chris Gregoire to win, too!
Looking forward to a great night of election returns
-
I've got MSNBC on my screen too. Still predicting Obama!!! We should see results very soon!!! This is really exciting!!!! I have to break soon to take my son to gym, then I'll be glued to the screen!!
g
-
Nic- If my wife ever voted repub... well, I'd never marry someone who would vote against our civil rights so nix that... divorce court!
I've got MSNBC on too---but I'll switch back to cnn periodically. Is there a chatroom we can all go into?
-
My husband wrote this and I thought it was very good!
All,
Well, the battle is over or soon will be. We won't know for sure who won for a week or two, but one party will probably claim victory before midnight tonight.
And either way this thing goes, some of us will be excited about the results, some of us will be saddened by them, and others still will not care. Most of us will just be glad it's over.
But it's not over. In the Bible, the history of Israel shows that when the nation of Israel turned "as one" to God, that God raised up godly leaders. When the nation of Israel turned away from God, then God allowed un-godly leaders. I read the first few verses of Romans 13, and I believe this passage indicates that the pattern holds true for ALL nations. Including and especially our beloved United States of America.
Whatever your thoughts about the new leadership of the United States, it is not the end of the world or even of this country - God is still in control!
In four years there will be another presidential election, but in the meantime there are other elections for Senators, Representatives, State Governors, City Officials, new laws, etc... And I for one do not plan to sit back and watch it all happen and complain about the things I don't like. I am committed to making a difference by involving myself in each election, not "just the important ones".
We can say that our efforts won't make much difference, or we can look for opportunities where our effort CAN make a difference, and do that much at least. We can say that we are too busy because we work long hours at our jobs or we can fight for good leaders and laws, realizing that poor leadership and laws may cost us our jobs. We can say that our families are more important and so we should spend our time with them, or we can get our families involved and spend time with them doing something truly important. We can say that we don't have the time, or we can start using our time more wisely by turning off the TV's and Internet and other time-wasters and finding more constructive ways to spend our time. In short, we can ALL do more.
It is up to us to be informed, be involved, and be influential.
Above all else, as Christians, we have a job to do that is ours alone. Regardless of whether we ever vote again, we have a God-given responsibility to step out in faith and expect God to work through us to turn this country of ours "as one" to God. We cannot change our country on our own, only God can effect this change. However, we can do our part by praying, studying God's Word, loving our spouses, teaching our children, reaching our neighbors, supporting our church, etc...
Regardless of what is happening anywhere else in the world, this job starts anew for us today. It starts again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. And for the rest of our lives.
Please join me in accepting this vital task, and "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works" Heb 10:24.
God's grace to you all,
Ron
