If this election isn't over soon, I'm going to get fired for all the time I'm spending posting here and reading Huffington Post!

Nice Obama pic.  I heard Rachel Maddow on the radio yesterday, talking about her interview with him, and she said he's actually handsomer in person (but that's really not why I'm voting for him).

Mary-Lou, since you appreciate a good dance . . . have you seen the "Thriller" wedding party video?  It just proves that even white people in bride's maid's gowns can dance (sort of)!

adk- you really think it's that easy after some of what's been said and some people's true colors coming out?

I just watched the victory parade for the phillies- almost 5 hours of cheering and positivity. I almost didn't even realize I had tears streaming down my face. The world series win was great for our city. In four more days we'll be doing the same for our new president only this time it will be great not just for philly, but for the country and the world that holds peace as a virtue.  I can't wait. These days are going sooooo slow.

Good Afternoon Obama fans.  It was a lovely day today.  Saw Obama posters everywhere!  Just got home and immediately put MSNBC on and of course came here so I could hear all that happened today. I just saw a speech being given by McCain where he does the famous "Nixon" peace signs.  The man is truelly crazy.

Amy:  I don't know if I'm gonna go or not.  All depends upon if I can get off on Wednesday.  A big Chicago party like this usually turns into an all nighter.  Not to mention the traffic!  BTW now I'm thinking Lewy Body for McCain.  What do ya think lol.  Combine his repetitiveness - like mentioning taxes 17 times in his last speech I saw.  Or "My friends."  Worse yet "Joe the lazy plumper."  Add his delusions and extreme anger.  Sounds like a right fit for me.  Palin is just stupid!  I can't stand to hear her voice or look at her anymore.  Sometimes when I see her I feel like Elvis and want to shoot my television.

LuAnn:  We love you.  You are braver than I.  Usually when I go over there --------------> I get the smack down!  All I want to say is this should be a safe place where we can come and talk to each other about how excited we are about Obama.  All this talking about others on that side is getting to me.  Hard to stay neutral cause I do love all of my friends.   I just think of two of my favorite people in the whole world.  Felicia and Cherryl - they don't serve the racial comments coming over from the other side.

Denisa:  Have I told you lately how great I think you are?  Your post was great.

Blue:  Another brave person who tip toed over there to make a post.

Anne:  I have to agree.  But when I reach out my hand I get bitten too.

Pam:  This is the positive Obama thread.  If you have something negative to say to an individual please pm that person the  next time.

ADK:  I agree totally.  Would love to talk about the issues and what we see for our futures.  But I have to tell ya, this morning I was saddened at how so many attacked Amy.  Its not right and I just wish they would stop it.

LittleG:  Nope, I didn't vote yet.

Well, I gotta run.  Can't wait til the election is over.

NIH Funding support 2009 - response I received after signing a petition.

Thank you for contacting me about funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

Like you, I strongly support increased funding for scientific research, and I have consistently voted to increase the NIH budget throughout my time in the Senate. I am disappointed that President Bush's budget proposal for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 requests no increase in funding for the NIH. Such a proposal would make FY 2009 the sixth year in a row that our nation's investment in life-saving research failed to keep up with biomedical inflation. If funding for the NIH remains at the President's requested level, the projected success rate for research grant applications would fall to the lowest level since 1970.

I recently signed a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, requesting that the NIH receive an 8.8 percent funding increase in FY 2009. As a member of the Appropriations Committees, please be assured that I will work to provide increased funding for the NIH and will keep your views in mind as the appropriations process moves forward.

cp- When I was staying in the hotel after the fire there were medical students working on getting people to sign form letters to their congress people to increase NIH funding. They were DOs, not MDs. I of course signed it and forwarded the info to my friends and family, but we have a lot of MDs in the family so they were already on it.

I get lots of emails to sign petitions for various causes.  I had signed one supporting NIH funding and sent a message to my congressman requesting his support.  The reply is from him - Frank Lautenberg - NJ senate.gov.

    Hello, ladies,

I just stopped by to check in.  I am feeling so great about our guy, especially after watching him on Rachel Maddow last night.  He was so concise and assured about all these hard questions that Rachel asked.  He has obviously been thinking hard about solutions, because he was very specific in his answers - about Pakistan, about rebuilding the infrastructure, about education.  And everything in his plan, he has a way to pay for it.  It's most unusual for a candidate to speak so intelligently and in such clear detail, especially this close to the election.  And he is so calm - here is a man of intelligence and demeanor, he won't be baited to say something stupid that can be used against him.  He can speak AND think!  At the same time!

And Rachel did a great job!  She's wonderful!

we need to change our priorities as a country. i have a good feeling about obama in this regard.

analemma- one of the things that impressed me most from the Rachel Maddow interview was Obama's ability to multitask. He clearly showed that he can think about and plan for different issues at the same time, the infrastructure, war/peace, health care. McCain hasn't shown that at all.

Good Morning Obama friends.  My husband told me yesterday that I won't know what to do with myself once the election is over.  I have been watching way too much news!  It's like I am addicted to it. Heard yesterday the Fox is no longer #1.  Guess alot of the Obama supporters are sick of their one sided view.

This whole election is exciting.  Looks like I will be casting my vote on election day.  I saw on television all those long lines - for early voting.  I wonder what election day lines will be like.  I'm thankful I live in a small suburb outside of Chicago.  Don't expect long lines as its a small town.  I can walk to my voting place from my house.  Could use the exercise anyways.

I'm hoping that Obama socks it to McCain this weekend.  I believe in my heart it's time we turn over our leadership to the younger generation.  I still can't get over McCain saying "my fellow prisoners" to a group of people at one of his rallies a few weeks ago.  Just can't forget that one as it tells you he has some real psychological issues going on.  I just don't understand how some people just arn't getting it.  It's time for the old fart to retire and the trophy lady need to go back to Alaska!

Will catch up with ya all later.

Did McCain really say he wants to take Sam/Joe "the fake plumber taking jobs away from union workers" to washington with him?????????????? I heard the words coming from his lips and I sure hope that doesn't mean he's  going to off her him a job.  The man is truly off his rocker--- McCain that is. I hope McCain meant it figuratively and not literally. LOL.

    Morning Obama girls!

How about the McCain rally where they had to bus in 4,000 students (and didn't pan the crowd) to listen to his dreary negative vitriol about Obama? It was hilarious.

McCain is losing supporters daily. He is really looking like a fool when he can't find Joe the fake plumber in the audience, and then tells his "supporters" to all stand up, cuz they are all Joe the plumber. WTH? If I were in the audience I think I might be insulted, and I'd really be insulted because I'm a woman!! Women appear to be invisible to him. And why doesn't his wife do some campaigning, like other candidates' wives do? No she just stands behind him and smiles.

Well, Obama is just as all of you say--smart, articulate, and calm. No matter what the situation, he is calm. I don't care if he is "tested" as Biden said, he will never lose it--like McCain did when the economy tanked--was not doing the debate, stopped his campaigning to go to DC. Really, if he were tested as president, he'd probably get so excited and angry he'd just push that red button! Our country can not afford to have this type of man as president, and the hockey mom as VP. I don't think she plans to go back to Alaska though. I think she's had a taste of the high life and will be lookin' to raise her political career a few notches, you betcha!

Go Obama!! Looking forward to seeing the results this Tuesday, and hearing his acceptance speech!!

I'm continually amazed that so few people ever mention McCain's famous temper and underlying mean spiritedness. It was addressed in Rolling Stone magazine, and certainly all memebres of the Senate know about it. A few have alluded to it. But no big push to show just how angry this man really is underneath it all. That's the kind of emotion I do not trust nor do I want in my highest elected official. Especially with another "loose cannon" by his side.

My cousins in Alaska don't want Palin back. But they're stuck with her. It will be intersting to see how ethics issues play out for her. Despite her denouncing of Ted Stevens, he was her mentor.

Anne- too bad we have to wait an extra hr due to daylight saving time!  I've heard over and over that McCain takes things very personally and if you cross him once with a vote, he holds a grudge big time.  If I remember correctly when his temper was mentioned early on in the campaign he brought up his time as a POW-- to deflect the question. That seemed to work pretty well in the beginning.  I do not think McCain is a nice person at heart from what he's shown on the campaign.  Do you know what I thought was interesting-- when the unnamed source from the McCain called Palin a "whack job" and said she had no trusting relationships with the campaign, her friends or family. It could be sour grapes, or it could be the personality that irks so many people all over the world.

This is how I see the recent McCain-Obama comparison:

Joe the Plumber ---- Bill Clinton

Tito the Builder ---- Al Gore

    Bush League  ---  Major League

I was gagging yesterday when I heard the talking heads on both Matthews and Real Time speculating about Palin's political future now that it looks like she's not going to be VP--let's be nice, compliment her on her style and ambition and imagine her going off and learning enough stuff to be a serious national candidate some day.  A talk show host, a game show host, an ESPN sportscaster, OK.  A national spokesperson for something.  She'd be great at that.  But a world-class leader?  No way, no how.  Not in her DNA.  But I don't doubt that she'll try.

Been reading the speculation about who Obama might bring in to his cabinet and WH staff based on insider rumors.  A lot of Clinton folks and people from Obama's campaign (Gibbs for press secy, for one).  But also a lot of moderate Republicans, especially women.  One that freaked me out and I hope doesn't come to pass is Schwarzenegger at Energy.  He is more environmental aware than most Republicans, but he drives a frigging Hummer!  Or he did until recently.  Oh, and no mention of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson (although Jesse Jackson, Jr. at HUD was).

I'm trying not to count my sweet potatoes before they're baked, but I'm going to be making that pie one way or the other next week.  It'll either be a celebration pie, or a drowning-my-sorrows-in-sugar pie.  But there will be pie.

    Evening, thanks for the welcome,

OH NO! Would you believe I just saw the face of Jeremiah Wright on my TV?  I live in NYC, NY. YIKES!  I believe fervently in  the  right of anyone to worship where they please, even with this  preacher if they so desire.  Barack left his church after the good Reverend went on TV and lost it, yet the desperate  Republicans  will not let this  poor man  rest.

    Why?

Well, they have NO  program for the future  of our country nor can they defend the last 8 years of President Bush's presidency. The rampaging unregulated Wall street looters and what they have done to our country is much worse than any thing I could have ever imagined. I love Wall Street. I  loved reading about the huge bonuses, love  reading about folks getting rich, buying  real estate jewelry...living vicariously is my motto... but  not dishonestly.

Puleeeze let Rev. Wright rest in peace. There is no need to fear this this fire and brimstone preacher in the pulpit. One more sad reason we need to stop the negative Republican attack machine. They have nothing on Barack nothing. Before the days of videotape most black churches were havens from the world...we could go to and  vent our frustrations about our place and our treatment  in society...but we always  loved America even in our anger and despair.

Rev. Wright loved America ....Rev, Wright is an ex military man; I say leave him be.

. One Sunday morning I turned on my TV and saw Pastor Hagee tell his parishioners on TV some horrid things about Catholics and Muslims. I had thought about visiting his church when I lived in San Antonio, TX. NOT!

NO more Politics of fear and division. Did John McCain's campaign forget he chose Pastor Hagee as his very own evangelical pastor.  Maybe Barack will remind him this afternoon via  a TV infomercial.

I think often of Barack's  mom, a deep wound he will carry forever, while I sit and wait for  a foundation to help me pay for my Neupogen co-pay. Forget Neulasta:)

My insurance wants oh so much co-pay. I had no idea this medication was so expensive,  or I would have looked for Part "D" co-pay help immediately after my surgery. So, instead of dose dense therapy recommended by my onc , for  my Triple Neg, BC, I get it every three weeks and pray. fingers xedSmile

Thursday my WBC's were 1.5, next Friday I get my third AC...HOORAY!

I have to agree about his temper.  He is an angry ol man and cannot hide his feelings. With his anger there are some real psych issues that some seem to overlook.  He is a cannon ready to blow at any minute.

Bar:  Hi to you and what a good post you wrote.  I was also thinking about Hagee.  Obama has kept things above board with this campaign.  He hasn't resorted to the uglies coming out of McCains camp.  Socialism, Communist, Terrorist, anti semetic.  My goodness they are sounding so desperate.

bar62 . . . thanks so much for your perspective on Wright!  The kneejerk responses to his words have always bothered me.  They should walk in a mile in his shoes (and those of his congregation) before feigning their outrage.  There was a letter to the editor in today's LA Times, from a man from a particularly well-to-do part of Orange County, who brought up Michelle Obama's misquoted statement about her being really proud of her country for the first time.  He was equating that one comment to the barrage of divisive "real America"  claims we've been hearing lately from the McCain campaign, et al.  Again, walk a mile in her shoes, and her parents' shoes, and let us know how it feels.

But I thought that McCain had declared Wright off-limits anyway.  Is that going out the window too in these last desperate days?

So sorry to hear about your insurance situation, bar.  You should be getting the chemo you need, not the chemo you can afford.  (I was shocked too when I found out how expensive the neulasta/neupogen shots are).   I always tear up when I hear Obama talk about his mom's cancer and her lonely path to death.  The man knows.

Good luck on the rest of your chemo.

    LAphoenix,

I like your choice of pie for post-election. We're going to a party in the neighborhood to watch the results. I offered to bring dessert to ensure there's something chocolate. In good times and bad, chocolate will see us through. I'm going to make a Black Russian cake. It's sooo yummy!

In these days of YouTube, which are a mixed blessing, we are subject to more and more soundbites for our news. Wright turns me off. But I haven't sat in his congregation and listened to entire sermons. Same for Palin's Fundamentalist church. Who am I to judge.

I would hate to see Schwarzenegger in a cabinet post after his negative campaigning against Obama. I'd love to see Obama pick Rep Governor Tim Palanti or Bobby Jindel (sp?) for cabinet posts.

barb- I never had a problem with Wright until he seemed to throw Obama under the bus saying that Obama really believed what he preached but couldn't say it because of politics. I don't have a problem with his sermon after 9/11, I understood where it was coming from and agreed with some of the fundamentals that we could be considered terrorists to countries that we invaded (from their perspectives). I hated how many people were quick to jump down Obama's throat, assuming Wright said "god damn america" every week in church and that Obama was there when Wright said those things. I felt sad that so many people were quick to judge Wright's career based on 20 seconds of one sermon. What's so friggin amazing is that of all these republicans who believe Obama shouldn't be president because of Wright, a whopping 23% of repubs think Obama is Muslim. WTF? The guy can't win either way. Why is it that some people think the president has to be their specific definition of christian in order to be competent? I don't care what religion the president is or isn't, as long as s/he can lead the country well. I've seen much more hate come out of some white preachers than ever came out of Wright.

LAP- You mention Michelle Obama's misquoted statement about being proud of her country. I think this goes hand in hand with the Wright thing in that some whites are quick to judge what a black person says differently than if a white had said the same thing. This is the subtle racism that sneaks in to people who insist they aren't racist (because they have a black friend or whatever).

I was out in the philly burbs, you know, the burbs where McCain and Palin have been trying to poach Obama supporters. I had my Obama shirt and pin and I got so many thumbs up and people who were excited about an Obama presidency. People of all walks of life, all races, all religions.

Amy:  I was walking into a restaurant last night with a few friends and had my Obama pin on.....a car drove by and someone yelled out "GO OBAMA  WOOOOOOO!!!!"  I am so excited I can hardly stand it.  So true what you said about "subtle racism.  I think many aren't even aware of it.  So sad.

Unfortunately we ARE considered to be bullies in some other countries. We invaded a sovereign country, a fact that some on the "other side"  don't seem to have a problem with.  I suppose it's a minor detail that Iraq had nothing to with 911 and the whole WMD thing was a fabrication....but..I digress..... a few more days and barring some unforeseen circumstance, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will restore honor to the Presidency.

One more thing, had to laugh today....Cheney endorsed McSame......  I can just hear McSame now under his breath....PLEASE don't endorse me, PLEASE don't endorse me......

Bar:  Good post, and welcome!  So sorry to hear of your prescription co-pay issues.  Have you tried the American Cancer Society or your local Breast Cancer Support Group?  They may be able to direct you to an agency that can help you get the meds you need.  Everyday I am reminded of how much our health care system needs overhauling.

I was just coming to post about the Palin punked....what a buffoon. This shows how bad the McCain camp is at screening calls and how dumb Palin is for falling for it. You just can't make this stuff up. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/01/masked-avengers-prank-cal_n_140023.html

Montreal radio host calls VP canadiate pretending to be French president Sarkozy

    Agence France-Presse

    Published: 3 hours ago

Sarah Palin is the latest victim of a notorious radio prankster tag team from Montreal who phoned the Republican U.S. vice-presidential hopeful Saturday and impersonated French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

After Palin realized the call was a hoax, her campaign staff conceded that she was "mildly amused."

John McCain's running mate enthusiastically took the  call from the fake Sarkozy. "It's so good to hear you, thank you for calling us ... we have such great respect for you, John McCain and I, we love you," Palin said.

She appeared unfazed by the fake president's thick French accent and outrageous comments.

At one point, the impersonator, comedian Sébastien Trudel, told the Alaskan governor he is following the U.S. elections closely along with his special U.S. adviser, Johnny Hallyday, a famous French rock'n'roll singer.

When the fake president told Palin that his wife, Carla Bruni, is "hot in bed," the governor chuckled and complimented him for his "beautiful family."

Palin also offered to continue relations if she reaches the White House. "We should go hunting together," she said.

Palin laughed at Trudel's response: "I just love killing those animals. ... Take away life, that is so fun!"

"I see you as a president one day, too," the comedian said.

"Maybe in eight years," Palin replied.

Trudel and Marc-Antoine Audette have used their impersonations to target former French president Jacques Chirac, singers Mick Jagger and Britney Spears, and Sarkozy himself.

"This was our most explosive coup so far," said Audette, adding it was "difficult" for Trudel to get the request for a phone conversation past Palin's entourage and Secret Service detail.

The McCain campaign released a statement about the phone call: "Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."

The Palin phone call can be heard on www.justiciers.tv
