Positive Obama thread

Last night's infomercial was quietly brilliant in how it focused as much on Obama's supporters as on Obama. It created that trajectory from Obama, the man, to ordinary people, and from his policies to problems that ordinary people are facing right now. Really well done.
TNT, thanks for sharing that beautiful quotation. I heard a great story yesterday from a co-worker that kind of relates to it. She works with a professor who's been volunteering at an Obama campaign office in LA. The other day the professor answers the phone at the campaign office and it's Obama on the other end! He was just calling to say hey and to thank the volunteers. After the woman got over her shock, she chatted with him for several minutes, telling him about her background and concerns. Anyway I think Obama gets the idea of paying it forward, that you recognize the people who help you and you don't pull up the ladder once you make it.
As far as the pathetic GOP attacks . . . Obama summed it best when he said in his latest stump speech that the Republicans want to make a virtue out of selfishness. I think that's what the whole "spread the wealth" argument boils down to. It's a return to the looking-out-for-numero-uno philosophy of the 80s. I hope a majority of voters reject that notion next Tuesday.
Joe the Plumber is hilarious. I mean, you couldn't make up a guy like him if you tried. People were actually asking him about Obama's views on Israel, like he's an expert, on Israel and on Obama. Do they have any idea how moronic they look? Even Paris Hilton has more credibility than a lying, tax-dodging, would-be country singing plumber. But I suppose if you're going to start with the assumption that Palin is qualified to run the country, then casting Joe the Plumber as a foreign policy expert isn't too much of a stretch. I did appreciate Shepard Smith's disclaimer and obvious disgust at the end of the interview, though. I wonder if he's going to be getting a pink slip from Murdoch.
Amy, congrats to you on the Phillies win! Hopefully it will be the first of two happy victories in the week.
-
OMG LAP- I can't even imagine what it would be like to have Obama on the other end of the line. I would be speechless. Obama's right about the republicans want to make a virtue out of selfishness. I've said the same thing before- they're worried about an extra penny taken out of their taxes and perhaps given to fund services for people they consider unworthy--- the poor. After all, shouldn't those poor people have pulled themselves up by the bootstraps before now. It reminds me of Michael Douglas's Gordon Gekko line in the movie wall street, "greed is good."
The whole republican campaign would make a bad sitcom. You have wind em up McCain who lifts his arms when he gets excited, Palin the ditzy VP picked for her vagina rather than her abilities--former beauty pageant contestant to boot, and Joe the Plumber - tax evading plant who the republicans have elevated to their mascot--who's now hoping to put out a country album by inaguration. You really can't make this stuff up. If it was a tv show, people would say it was too far from anything believable. You're right that Paris Hilton would be a better mascot than Joe and maybe a better VP pick than Palin.
-
g- Maya Angelou originally supported Hillary, I assume since she's democrat she's now supporting Obama?
-
"You're right that Paris Hilton would be a better mascot than Joe and maybe a better VP pick than Palin."
That was funny!

Amy...I'm not sure on Maya's choice. She didn't go into it at all. But she just strikes me as someone, even though I may not agree with her faith or all her beliefs, but she is an honest caring person. Not a fake and phony, that is trying to be fed to us right now from the GOP. I don't have a problem with what someone believes, as long as it comes from their heart, and they don't try and shove it down anyone else's throat. The troll is all about anger and fear. It's what keeps him going. And the side kick is all about attention. Both not virtuous traits. They choose other people like them, other people that have broken laws that they made, and no consequences. They back stab at every opportunity. I can go on but I'm not. We only have 5 days left!! I need to focus on the victory that will be ALL of ours!! President Obama!!
I would freak out too if I had a phone call from him!! He brings tears to my eye's when I watch him. I just get overwhelmed. So a phone call..WOW! It would be like a dream!! Maybe on Monday I'll get a call at the PDX headquarters!! ;-)

g- maya seems more spiritual than religious and I agee with what you said. Remember your flags for the 5th!

McSame's campaign isn't even trying to hide it anymore. Notice how this ad is targeted toward the racist base, to *not so subtly* remind them that Obama is black
Like I said last night - it's pathetic, sad, disgraceful and stupid for people to deny that McCain wants the racist demographic.
-
wow donna, that is unbelievable.
amy - congrats on your phillies!
annew - the rightchess right are scared. it seems fear and ignorance go hand in hand. i just hope they spare us their "let me save you from your liberal selves" rhetoric around here for the next five days.
soooooooooo - looks like bible spice says she is not going to leave the national scene and this has not all been for naught. those growing number of pesky ethics issues might take up a good amount of time and hopefully spare us her presence.
what about that no-show joe the non-plumber standing up mcbush today?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1TT7gt5F0w
too funny, if you watch cindy's lips, she says oh my god..
five more days, five more days, president obama is on the way!

Hi all,
just saw this cartoon (Laura, you may have seen it too
! ) and I thought everyone on this thread, at least, could really appreciate it!
-
Doona: That "not so subliminal" ad is despicable, yet not unexpected. I believe there are many more people over _______________> who have a problem with the "black" preisdent than they do with policy. How else can it be explained???? How ELSE could anyone vote otherwise. Don't get it, but there it is.
Obama....5 more days!

153 hours, 10 minutes to go

153 hours to go...
so not only did joe pull a no show on mccain rally today but they bused in 4,000 students to fill the 6,000 seat venue.
A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses.

annnyc - great cartoon...so true.

eye on the prize................Obama '08!

Joe the notplumber has a music deal coming.....Cheese Louise.
-
Hahahaha...... Joe the plumber is NOT a plumber afterall..... HE IS A BIG FRAUD (big surprise) and obviously a plant (just like Tito the Builder)
He is an unlicensed contractor who, in 2006 made $40K and who, under Obama's tax plan would be getting $500. Alos, according to Lucas County, Ohio records, he has a tax lien against him for $1100 filed in Jan 2007.
I just saw a great comment in the newspaper..... "Barack Obama shares the stage with President Bill Clinton and McSame can't even get Joe the (NON) plumber to SHOW UP".... at a rally that he had to drag people in off the street to attend. How much more humiliation are they going to subject themselves to????? I am now embarrassed FOR them.....
5 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Oh Laura........now THAT is good stuff!!!!!! I watched the clip you attached. How lame!!! First of all, I honestly can't believe he even brings this guy up. What is that about??? Does anyone know? It makes zero sense! But..I guess that's what the GOP (grumpy old people) are about. And the fact that they had to bus people in, give me a break here! Why are there still people backing this? I feel sorry for the kids that were bused in. Yeah...that's a great field trip! Very pathetic on the trolls part. Very pathetic. Call it a day gramps and go retire. Let us have our country back.
Obama '08...it's almost here!!!
-
Thank goodness, I can always count on all of you. I find out more here when I first get home from work. Too funny about Joe the Plumber. But so typical - another bad choice by McCain. I think lil ol Sara brought him bad Karma.
I'm finding out more and more that people, family no less, are more predjudiced than I ever knew. Funny cause when Hilliary lost and I finially chose Obama, color was never part of the issue. Yet somehow now, I want to be part of the history making. He is a good man and this country needs a change. Turn things over to the younger generation and let them take a try at it.

I just can't believe what mcCain is trying to accomplish w/the plumber? It's such a low road to take at this late date. And bussing in children to fill the seats? I think John thought if he "used" the plumber he could get some leverage against Obama, but doesn't John get it yet--he keeps trying to make nasty stuff stick, and it just slides away. The only nasty stuff that sticks--is on him and the "others" over there-----------------------------------> They have lost it. They have nothing to argue with so it's an all out see who can say the worst about Obama. I just laugh when I read their thread. It's just too funny!! Watch out for the trolls--like I care if they come over here and post something. I just ignore it and read the responses from my fellow Obama 'girls'--I call us the Obama Wise Women!! Just a few days left!!
The gun lovers' beef--is that Obama wants to ban assault rifles. WTH? I would think any normal human being living in this country would support a ban on assault rifles. What would any person need an assault rifle for? Oh, my goodness--to follow in Palin's footsteps, I guess, and go hunt whatever from a helicopter. Now that's really showing hunting skills. My grandfather was from Indiana, and when deer hunting season came, he took his bow and arrows and gave the deer a fair shake. People who hunt in this country, want it to be "easy," as the time the white settlers shot almost all the buffalo in this country from the backs of trains--and in the process massacred thousands upon thousands of Native Americans by killing their food and starving them to death!!
Sorry, off topic. But even if someone from here goes to the other thread, and offers an argument, they are very quick to call the comment racist, and that therefore, they are not racist, but the person who made the comment must be a racist. They defy intelligent logic!
They say no matter what they post, we will continue to "idolize" Obama. Well, seems to me those ---------------------------> over there, "idolize" Palin/McCain, and nothing posted by us over there will ever change their minds.
What is sad, is that we are supporting a gentleman who will unify this country and stop the divisiveness we have lived with for the past 8 years, and also this entire McCain/Palin campaign. McC/P supporters are already saying, watch out and we have to "get" them before the next election. From day 1 of Obama in the white house, all I perceive from them is that there will be no unity, just a fight to regain Republican control of the WN. Really, really sad that people can be so angry and vile that they aren't even willing to try to work together to make this country what it can be, and was prevented from being, since Dubya has lived in the WH.
I would hope that we can all work together to unify and strenghten this great country. We have much to fix, and we need to make sure the fixing starts at the bottom and moves up--not the other way around. I do want Obama to win, as I believe he is the right choice and only choice that should be in the WH for the next 4 years. If that doesn't happen, it will be hard to accept but I will continue to work on unifying to solve the massive problems Dubya's rein of terror has left us to deal with. I would hope that McC would be smart to include advisors from all political parties, and make decisions based on what is best for the people, from the bottom tiers and moving upward. He and she claim to be mavericks. I don't see any evidence of that. So, my prayers are that the American people who can't decide to whom their vote should go, will step into that booth and vote for Obama, the only one who can lead us out of Dubya's stinking mess!
Pray and get out the vote!! I will be out there helping anyone who wants to vote to get to the polls!

This could be old news on our board. But the troll campaign is still using this in their ads. Contradicting himself again. Believe it or not. I wish the troll would just stop all of this and let's just admit the majority of the US, voters and non-voters alike..are wanting an Obama win. It is so obvious by the amount of people that go to hear him and see him..that hang on to the optimism Barack brings! Why does the troll and side kick insist on being so nasty to the end? Who would want this? It's just mind boggling.

I have a short story to tell. My husband has an Obama sticker on his truck, as well as a sticker that says "Support Our Troops" "bring them home now." We live near Silicon Valley--a rampant liberal tax the rich, not the poor, going to be an Obama landslide area. He was leaving work one afternoon, when another truck dogged him on the freeway, giving him the finger numerous times, and spewing vitriol that I can't even repeat here, to him for 1/2 hour. It was more humorous than dangerous.
My hubby did not cut him off or do anything driving wise to warrant this. We believe he was cursed at because of the bumber stickers. I see many McCain/Palin signs in yards and some on cars. I would never destroy one or do what this man did on the freeway. This is the nasty, unwarranted behavior that appears time and again on the internet, and to an extent (although cleaned up to pass muster) on this site. I don't understand why there is so much anger at what is posted on this thread by others. It just amazes me how quickly we are labeled individually and/or as a 'group.' To think that the "v" word is the same as the "c" word is ludicrous. Guess they have never heard of The Vagina Monologues! And just as I, a white woman, cannot call a woman of color a racist because of something she says about me; a woman cannot be called sexist because of a comment she makes about another woman--it only works if a man says or does something sexist. It's all about where the power lies. And we whites always have more power--it's that darn privilege again, that we don't ask for, but get for free, and don't even have to pay any attention to it. We don't have to check if it's there--it just is--ALL THE TIME! All these isms exist because 'what is' is because of what is not first! They just make me laugh so hard, when they try so hard to call us names, and they just can't make them stick!
Goooooooooooooo Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grace- half the people on that republican board wouldn't know racism if it smacked them in the face. Just because somebody isn;t wearing a white hood doesn;t mean they aren;t racist. I hate that some people in this country have so far to go in that regard. They wouldn't know feminism if it smacked them in the face either. It's hard for me to believe that some women get so freaked out about the word vagina. I wonder if they also have a problem saying the words period or menstruate out loud. I'd rather hang out with the intellectual elite than climb into the abyss of ignorance. Being called names by people like that means nothing.
-
Don't spread lies about Joe the Plumber...he is a plumber. I believe it is being investigated about his background check. Seems like it was done illegally. I believe the person who "looked" into his background was a cop. My brother said he was fired.
Joe was on TV this morning. He's very angry that the media et al has held his feet to the fire, but they aren't holding Obama's feet to the fire and HE'S GONNA BE OUR PRESIDENT! My dh couldn't have passed his security clearance when he did a TS job while in the Air Force. The FBI knocked on plenty of doors checking out his friends, etc. If he had had relationships that were questionable like Obama does he would never have passed the clearance.
Tito..Tito has a very small contract business. Do you want to see the video taling about it. Go the our thread and you'll see where I posted it. He wants his company to grow. He doesn't want "crumbs" thrown at him...he says..from Obama. Tito is an immigrant as I've already informed you. He was janitor.
Joe didn't know he was supposed to be at that rally with McCain. But he was there for the next stop. He has more common sense than most.
I think that you making fun of these people is horrible. They are not plants. You can't stand ordinary people standing up for McCain.

Oh please, Joe the Plumber is an egregious self-promoter. he has an agent, is looking for a book deal and a country music contract. I don't care whether he is or isn't a plumber, but I feel no sympathy for him and the attention he is getting. Honestly, this is why McCain is losing this thing. Talking about this guy and pulling him out at rallies does nothing for the American people and the incredible challenges everyone is facing right now. People don't want to hear Sarah Palin with her gotchas and her doncha knows and they don't want to see this guys blathering all over the place about how he deserves to have his 15 minutes of fame because he did some research on the internet. They want to hear how our next president will solve our problems. Period.

Amy, all I'm going to say about you is that you seem to have bigoted ideas. Vagina is not a "nasty" word. We are not freaked out by the word "vagina." In the way you use it it is truly sexist, disgusting and offensive toward women. Need anymore adjectives?
Obama4President wrote:

Amy, stop being so immature. Do you hate women?

On the republican thread we are not racist. I'm tired, very tired, of you saying that. What exactly did someone on the republican thread say that made you think they wouldn't know racisim if it smacked them in the face? That was a hateful remark!

For my like-minded friends on this thread, there is a fantastic (but very adult-language filled) blog that I read regularly. Today's post about waiting for the election to be over is quite humorous and I would love to share it with anyone who wants a link. I just don't want to post a link here because it is a little on the "rude" side - but it's actually quite insightful, biting commentary. If you want the link, PM me and I'll send it to you.
-
Member,
I cannot understand why you are acting so hateful. What's wrong with you people?
There are all kinds of things being spread around right now. You don't like that this man has mad Obama ANSWER a question that no one else could get out of him. When he said "spreading the wealth: that made some actually think.
If you think Obama can solve our problems. Don't hold your breath. I don't believe ANY candidate can solve the problem we're in today. And Obama doesn't like "gotcha" questions either. Why do you think he didn't do a town hall meeting last night instead of an infomercial? Why is the press not asking Obama questions on the trips they take together? He's not good at answering questions. He's good at rhetoric and speeches.

Shirley, If you have a problem with Amy's posts, you should put her on ignore. Your post could be easily construed as a personal attack.
Amy has made it clear time and time again she has no interest in entering into a dialogue with you, so to seek her out and make derogatory remarks towards her is out-of-line and unkind.
I know that in your heart you are a good person, clearly this election and your candidates dismal chances of winning have you scared. We don't want to bare the brunt of it.
You have come here and made repeated last posts, demanded an answer on why we are voting for Obama and took us through your why I am not a racist story.
Enough all ready, references to the girls over here that you have made on the Respectfully Republican Thread speak volumes to the antagonist thrill you get from lurking this thread.
Stay there.
Coming over here and attacking Amy is over the top.
I really like to think you are better than that.

member- don't even bother responding to the troll. She's not worth our energy. People who like Joe the plumber are the same people who think Palin is a smart person ready to be president. Why bother. The troll just comes over to try to get attention and the best thing we can do is ignore her verbal temper tantrums. Did you year the people asking "Sam the jerk taking jobs away from union plumbers" what he thinks about Obama and Israel as if he was some kind of expert? Sam/Joe has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Laura- No need to defend me, whatever the troll says is just a reflection on the type of person she is. When I see a post from her I just ignore it because it'll be mean and/or senseless- as Obama said, if you beat your head against to wall and it starts to hurt.....lol.
-
Laura, I am better "than that." I'm not attacking Amy. If I am please report me to the mods. I asked her questions. Please tell me how I attacked her. It's okay for you guys to jump over to "our" thread and at least we are polite. We're not afraid of you.
I feel I have the right to defend us, the women on the repub thread against being called racist.

I have enjoyed reading all the posts on this thread but for ShirleyHughes. What will she do after Tuesday? I want to thank you Obama4President for all you have done to keep this thread honest and true.

Thanks NanaJean. I'm going to change my name on the 5th to ObamaIsPresident
.
I wanted to mention a shout out to Florida's republican Governor Charlie Crist for extending early voting hours much to the chagrin of his republican colleagues. Making voting easier for everyone is the American way. I heard some places even have drive through voting. I've always thought voting should be a work holiday and/or election day should be on a weekend so more people could vote. Now if he'd only come out of the closet-- it's ok Chuck, really. The dems will gladly have you if the repubs distance themselves from you.
People have started to comment on the lack of diversity at McCain rallies vs. Obama rallies, which saddens but doesn't surprise me. Is it true the repubs haven't elected a new black to congress for 6 years? Yikes.
