My take on the attacks toward Obama supporters, be they verbal or physical...this is the mentality of the people they attract.  They would rather be bull headed and march off the cliff with these 2 clearly unqualified people, than stick up for their country.  It seems its become more about him winning then anything that is moral or right.   Perhaps in the beginning they believed they could pull this off, but each day their attempts become more lame.  And it feeds their stuborness.  So they put their pride first and march on in defense of all the insanity that is being fed to them.  Remember...pride cometh before a fall.  Get ready to fall republicans!!

    Obama '08...its almost here!!!!!!!!

I don't want to be involved in an uproar which I seem to put myself into but honestly ladies, not all of you but a few of you have become downright nasty lately.  It does seem the elections are leaning toward Obama.  If all his voters show up and vote that claim they will he has it in the bag.  But that doesn't mean we have to be nasty to people that don't like Obama.  We all live in this country, we share breast cancer on this site.  Why stir the pot so much that you make enemies out of an election?  Doesn't make sense to me.  Just my opinion.

LuAnn- I appreciate what you're trying to do, although I don't think it's your place. Not sure when you appointed yourself peacemaker, but sometimes you end up pissing off both sides when you do that. We all don't live in this country, we have people from all over the world on these boards and what happens in these elections effects them too. These elections are more about who's going to be in the white house, they are about values and equality. Just because people have breast cancer doesn't mean they'll always get along or agree or even like each other. That's ok. We can agree to disagree and sometimes that means sticking to our own threads. I just don't open threads I don't think I'll like. Others choose differently. Free speech.

they're grasping at straws, suz, making up lies--- big surprise, why should they change now.

i;m watching rachel maddow's interview with obama, I taped it so I could watch Grey's, and he had the biggest smile I've ever seen from him.  He's being very inclusing, not dissing repubs or conservatives, but seeing the positives from their side. I think he will be more of a centrist than a liberal president and as much as I am liberal, I think this country will run better this way. I won't give up on my fights for marriage equality and women's reproductive rights though, but economically I can move a little toward the center.

Oh no! I was interested in the power grid conversations too. Obama has good thorough answers, mentioning the water supply and food. A doomsday scenario person could go crazy with all the things in the world to worry about. Wouldn't it be great if Obama makes Rachel his press secretary? She's probably too smart for that though.

Tks to Madalyn--finally found my polling place on the internet and could even verify that I am indeed a registered voter, so should be no problem.   My next question is for all of you more politically savvy than I ever will be....

Our state has other issues on the ballot.   I've read the sample ballot in the newspaper and am fine with all the issues but one.......so, my question is--if I leave an unmarked oval on my ballot will the entire ballot be rejected?   If no answer from you good folks, then I will mark something--just don't have one idea where to go on this particular issue......?   and, will be glad to get the election over.     ssssshhhhhhhh--think that DH is finally leaning in the best way--has been a hard sell!!!!

    Shirley,

    I'm not attacking Amy.  Yes you are, let me walk you through it;

First, Amy has made it clear, time and time again, that she does not read your posts or respond to your negativity towards her.

Second, you come to a thread that she started and posts regularly on and make these comments to her:

      • ...Amy, all I'm going to say about you is that you seem to have bigoted ideas.
    • ...Amy, stop being so immature.  Do you hate women?
    • ...In the way you use it it is truly sexist, disgusting and offensive toward women.  Need anymore    adjectives?

You post these remarks knowing full well that she does not read your posts or respond to your negativity towards her.

You are calling her out ... You are making a personal attack.

Let it go, she has made it perfectly clear that she is not going to respond to you and you know it.

This is not about us vs. you guys.  We don't all jump over to "your" thread. I can't even remember the last time I even read it. And your need to defend "us" is unnecessary.

Shirley, we are all good Americans and at the end of day we call ourselves sisters given the journey we have all shared.

As Barack Obama says; there is not a conservative America or a liberal America there is a United States of America.

We have been through a lot together Shirley,  we can get through five more days of this election. If the remarks on this thread irritate you, stay away. It is that simple, my friend.

Great posts Obama girls! I so enjoy the positives and the articulation and intelligence of our posts!

Interesting, was watching Olberman, and he mentioned that in trying to make a connection between some nut job (can't remember the name--started with a K) and Obama, Rudy Guilani decided he would ferret out that information; lo and behold, what did he find, BUT a connection of this K character to McCain--seems a number of years ago McCain donated to the Kman's cause--to the tune of almost $500K. Another backfire. Too bad!

Normally I would just ignore Shirley, but if you happen to come back here, I have two quotes for you, and perhaps you will understand what it means when we talk about racism and feminism. Think about it.

Gandhi said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

James Baldwin said: "These innocent people are trapped in a history they do not understand, and until they understand it, they cannot be released from it."

Baldwin was an African American writer, one of the best in the 20th century. His quote refers to all those people out there who don't understand racism, and will be trapped with dealing with it, until they come to understand racism. That's why the women on this thread are able to converse on the issues and not get trapped into personality issues or take this election as a personal attack. Some of us may read the Republican thread, but understand the "history" and don't need to respond to whatever is written over there. Personally, I just feel sorry for y'all ------------------>over there. Cry (well, not really)

Again, Amy is not saying something sexist when she uses the "v" word for Palin. Personally, I can think of better descriptions for her, but it would be a waste of my time to write them down!Innocent

obama girls- thanks for all the support. 4 days. 96 hrs (well less but you get the gist).  How many of us are going to cry tears of joy Tuesday Night/early weds am? There was a 109 yo african american woman in ohio who mailed in her absentee vote for Obama. Her father was a slave and she never thought she'd have a chance to vote for a black man. Knowing that there are still children of slaves alive really puts things into perspective. Even if I didn't support Obama or his policies, I would still marvel at our first black president.

Is John McCain smoking something? He introduced "sam the fake plumber who takes jobs away from union workers" a great american hero and his hero??? WTF, his standards are very very low.

nic- are you going to the event in chicago?

one more thing-- the McCain campaign worker who carved the backwards B into her cheek has been released from jail Frown. All; the charges will be dropped if she complies with court ordered therapy for a certain amount of time and then her record will be expunged.  I disagree with this, she could have gotten 2 years, since she's still lying about what happened. She now says she doesn't remember carving the B into her cheek. If she truly didn't remember, then why make up the lie and can we really trust a liar.  I don't doubt that therapy could be helpful if she complies with treatment. she still doesn't seem to acknowledge the issue with her race baited lies.

Amy:  The McCain capaign worker issue is very sad indeed. I have no idea what her "issues are", but I remember all too well the Tawana Brawley nightmare in NY some years back (also a fraud)....

I just saw in the morning papers where two students at a Kentucky college frat house were arrested for hanging an effigy of Barack.....  I think this kind of blatant racism is what scares me more than anything. Education is key to breaking this cycle of hate.  It has to start at home.

I thought this was profound re:racism

    What if

Would the country's collective point of view be different?
     Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage,
including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage
    daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law
    Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his
    graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a
severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured
    up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long
affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted
to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her
    charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five
in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the
larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that
included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?\

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on
many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer
    distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected
reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close
    as they are?

    This is what racism does.
It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one
candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a
    color difference.

    Educational Background:

    Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a
    Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

    Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in
    Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

    vs.

    John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

    Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
    Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest
offices in the land as well as our standing in the world.

Someone save me from myself....I just prerused the "other" thread to see what today's lies are and had to respond to a post regarding us "Dems" and how we are about to rape the country if we get elected. I'm sorry I responded because I know they don't get it, just like we don't get their side.

I feel the need to defend LuAnn, though I think she's one gal who's quite capable of speaking up in her own defense. Wink She is spot on about the tone here, as well as the other thread, lately. It's exactly what Obama wants to change on a bigger scale--our country. Nastiness has no place; there are bigger issues, and we must pull together to make it happen. How can we say we support change, when we keep engaging in the same, tired behavior? We are no better than the ones we take to task for this.

I'm not aiming a lecture at any one person here. But I think it's time we all hold the mirror up to our own faces. How can we expect our country to change, unless we take those first hard steps on this interpersonal level?

No one appointed me peace-maker, either. It's a role I come to naturally as a middle child. I'm not even trying to make peace, nor am I trying to piss people off. But I think we all need to look in the mirror and see where our words and actions are being divisive.

Our country needs so much more than this. Obama is my hope for this shift. But doesn't it start right here, first? Time to walk the walk.

blue- rape the country? Oy! In what respect? My guess is that whoever wrote that has never been raped. I have and I wouldn't even say those words about Bush.

anne- I agree with the need to reach out to the other side, bottom up. When  hands get repeatedly bitten, makes that reaching out a bit harder. I have respect for people like Shokk on the other side... just not the ignorance from some.

Hi Ladies......Just wanted you to know how busy our local county Democratic headquarters is right now!  People are phoning, canvasing, stuffing, collating, doing data entry...You name it.  The excitement and intensity is BIG.....

I heard it said that those of us Democrats who say we are pro-life and pro-gun are not real Democrats...What do you think about that?  I know that there are many pro-life Democrats, and I wish we had more of a voice in the party....

I feel that being a Democrat is more than those issues...It is having a real "Option for the Poor", (a Catholic documetn), and a philosphy that says we really ARE all equa.....I find the "compassionate conservative =" Republican to be somewhat mean-spirited in their attitude toward those who are in need....It's the ol' "I"ve got mine, now you get yours"...attitude....

I find the crowds at Obama rallys to be so  much more incluseive that the ones for McCain and Palin....I just can't stand their smug attitudes....Palin was, to me one of the deciding factors in my decsion to vote for Obama...which I have already done.....That woman is  whacky.

In any event, I can't wait for Tuesday!  We are planning a big celebration....Let's hope that the election goes the way we want it to.

Before you go off on the Republican thread, they used the word skewered.  The other inflamatory term was used only on this board by blue16.  If you (and rightly so) have an issue with that term being thrown around inappropriately, please direct your comments to the person who used it, not to an entire group of people who didn't.

blue- you did nothing wrong. I have no qualms with what you wrote. I assume that not every republican agrees with that line of thinking. No apology necessary. Sometimes silence on such things  like 'obama/dems raping the country" is silent assent.

easy- I think the dem. party is big enough to be inclusive, as you mentioned, look at the difference between the outward appearance of the Obama rallies vs the Palin rallies.  Obama wants to ban assault rifles, but he's fine with the 2nd ammendment. As a constitutional professor and scholar, he does npot interpret the right to bear arms to mean the founding fathers meant assault rifles which have no legitimate purpose for normal citizens except violence.  If it were up to me, I'd work to ban all guns, but most of the democratic party fall into line with  Obama's views. As for choice, I think the dems are fine with people who wouldn't chose abortion, but I can't see the majority of the party ever voting to end women's rights to choice their reproductive health.

ADK Can't we all just get along? Have you been channelling Rodney King again Wink. I don;t think you'll ever see a group as large as the message boards where everyone will all "just get along", not if people are free to be open and express themselves because we're all different with different views and life experiences.

I'm all for healthy debate and discussion between the parties. But politics this time of year gets so emotional, often to the point of being irrational. I have no expectations of us agreeing or getting along 100%. But the negativity has gotten to me.

    Thank goodness it's almost over.

Anne, I agree about the negativity, but I'm happy to see that Colorado has gotten a treat on Halloween!

Thousands of Colorado residents who had been scratched from voter registration rolls will be allowed to cast ballots on Election Day and their votes will be given special protection to ensure they are counted, following the resolution of a federal lawsuit filed against the state.

Colorado Common Cause and other groups alleged in a lawsuit filed last week that the state illegally removed an estimated 27,000 people from the voter list during the 90 days leading up to the August primary.

The groups argued that federal law prohibits any systematic removal of names from voter rolls within 90 days of an election with three exceptions: voters who have been convicted of a felony, have died or have requested removal.

Lawyers for the Colorado attorney general's office countered that the names were removed to correct voter registration records, in some cases because the voter had moved or was registered more than once. No eligible voter would be denied the right to vote, they said.

Under an agreement reached by both sides late Wednesday, the state will generate a list of voters whose registrations were canceled before the August primary. Those voters will have to cast provisional ballots on Election Day, but their ballots must be counted unless election officials can prove the voters were ineligible.

    Go democracy!  Four more days!

I hate the negativity too. One of the things I like about Obama is that he's tried to run a positive campaign. Even 4 days before the election, he finds time to say something positive about McCain. Early on Obama said, I won't hit first but I'll hit last.  Turns out he's doing fine without hitting back most of the time. That's why we haven't heard him mentioning the Keating 5. You know the repubs would have jumped on that.

Amy, I think you missed the point, I know I was talking about the negativity on these threads, not what Obama or McCain may have said or done.  I suspect that LuAnn and Anne were talking about the same thing, but I won't put words in their mouths.  I will be so glad when Tuesday is over and we can get back to supporting each other during these rough times.
