Day 12...Good Morning Ladies!  I am loving the positive energy surrounding Obama. Infectious, indeed!

Focused on bringing change and the right one to the White House in January. Get out the vote! I just read that there are 50% more new registered voters 18 -29, if you know any, remind them to vote.

An end to the Bush Era can't come fast enough for me!

Have a great weekend Obama BC Sisters!

What about a new thread called The Vagina Dialogues .... ?Laughing

We can all get people out to vote for Obama from our very own homes by going to his web site and making calls in our own neighborhoods www.barackobama.com . If we all make calls we can say we had a part in helping to elect the president elect on Nov 5th!

anna- did you take pictures? The rally I went to was energizing and so positive. Fired up, ready to go!

Anne, thanks for the New Yorker link.  From the outside it seemed like Palin came out of nowhere, but clearly she had been positioning herself on the radar for a long time.  There's a lesson to be learned in there somewhere, I think.  Clearly all the D.C. insiders who were dazzled by her lost their objectivity and common sense.

cp: Great article about the health plans.  It's discouraging to read that because of the financial mess, healthcare reform will probably be delayed, but at least the experts agree that Obama's plan will be better for cancer survivors and cancer prevention.  If his plan is to be enacted incrementally, as the article suggests, I hope Obama immediately pushes for a federal law that will ensure coverage for people with preexisting conditions.  I'm heartbroken and appalled when I hear about women on this board who are so deep in debt because of their cancer treatment, or who are under-insured and not getting tests or treatments because of cost.

I mentioned this a while back, but my daughter's junior class is going to D.C. for the Inauguration.  My DH and I gladly scraped up the money to pay for the trip because we know how special the experience will be for her.  She knows it will be a privilege and memorable event no matter who wins, but she's gonna cry if she doesn't get to see Obama going down Pennsylvania Ave.

I just wish I could hear Obama in person, anywhere, but he doesn't come to CA very often.

In an interview with Brian Williams, Palin defined elitism as anyone who thinks they're better than anyone else (sic). Count me in as a card carrying liberal elitist! Williams asked if geography plays a part of whether or not someone is elite. Palin said, of course not, McCain said he knows where a lot of them live, in New York City and Washington DC  (and laughed the way he does when telling a joke, thinking he's funny). The 2nd part of the interview airs tonight.

McCain is probably dancing in the streets that his running mate/gaffe machine didn't appear as confused as she did in the other interviews she did, but she sure didn't seem VP material.

We need to follow the money trail with expensive-clothes-gate.  Palin should have to pay taxes on the clothing if she keeps them and she should pay back the money for the kid's and first dude's clothes. The RNC is now saying her clothes will be donated to charity- gee, a few outfits for $150,000 or thousands of winter coats for the homeless, you decide the priority.

I've been thinking a lot about  conservatives and their priorities vs. liberals and their priorities. John McCain said, in the last debate that health insurance was a responsibility, Obama said it was a right. Thinking about Maslow's hierarchy of needs http://changingminds.org/explanations/needs/maslow.htm , Obama and the democrats are trying to make sure that every person in this country has their phisiological and safety needs meant with health care, helping homeowners with mortgage issues, extending unemployment and increasing money for heating, foodstamps etc for middle and low income folks. McCain's/Bush and company are worried about high income people's taxes not being any higher a percentage than middle and low income folks so the rich can get richer. McCain sees that as not wanting the bottom of the pyramid issue stuff get in the way of the rich maximizing their income. I think he sees that as "self actualization" of the American dream, but is it right for those at the top to achieve their financial dreams at the expense of those on the bottom not having their basic needs met?

Personally, to me the so called American Dream isn't about  having more money or a bigger business than my neighbors, it's living in a society where everyone hacan get  the best breast cancer treatment regardless of income or financial portfolio. I'm not satisfied being in this country when I can have my choice of doctors and/or treatment and my neighbor or the guy down the block or in a neighboring state can't. What kind of country can send a rocket to Mars but won't take care of the health needs of all it's citizens.

Just my random thought for the day.

LAP- I am so jealous of your daughter. What an experience of a lifetime. Why did we do things like that when I was in high school? Our class trip was a day at an amusement park.  I'm toying with the idea of going to DC for the inaguration. You're more than welcome to come stay with me and we can take the train down together. Ladysuz lives in Maryland,  we can bring Suz and her mother too. I'm going to make a sign for marriage equality if I go. Time to start pushing for equal rights.

Somebody fill me in as in why the military is voting republican per the last polls.

Granted it was worded to be the thing to do if you are military but Obama clearly voted FOR military issues while McCain voted AGAINST.

Especially retirees, that face higher Tricare fees so that they exit and choose something less expensive for the government, like their employers insurance, should especially vote for Obama!!!

    Something I am not getting?

Thanks for the offer Amy!  I'm tempted to go and would love to hang out with my bc sisters.  I grew up in D.C. but never participated in an inauguration.  I have good friends who live on Capitol Hill.  Wouldn't even have to worry about parking . . .

The gay marriage ban amendment is unfortunately picking up steam in CA.  It's going to be a close one.

    Qui, on peut!  Geuax Obama!

Brainwashing- Calico. The republicans have been good at invoking fear into the folks, particularly
Bush/McCain and company. Obama has been better on military issues than McCain, but McCain invokes the ," I was a pow, nobody suppports the military more than I do." and some people feel like they have to fall in line and believe everything he says. Everytime McCain gets into difficulty during an interview about his veteran's voting record, he invokes POWs so low information voters just fall into line.

Anyone can be brainwashed, can't they?  In fact, Obama supporters have been accused of "drinking the Koolaid," which is another way of saying we've been brainwashed.  One man's brainwashing is another man's ideology.  Think about it.

Thanks for promising to only post once!

Madalyn, I don't think they would want these things to go away.  I think it's a knee-jerk response to campaign rhetoric.  No doubt, if you asked them specifically if Social Security and Medicare are worthy programs a majority would say yes.  Probably half of them are using those programs, or someone in their family is.

That's so cool about your old home.  I think Obama's and the DNC's 50-state strategy has been brilliant.  I know some pundits have asked why Obama has gone into certain states he's unlikely to win, but my feeling is, even if he doesn't win there, he's still hoping to be their president, and shouldn't they get a chance to hear him?  It's not just about getting votes, IMO, it's about establishing a connection and letting people know they're worth his time even if they don't vote for him.  If he can get some votes along the way, so much the better!

Social Security and Medicare are not socialism. You pay a separate tax for them - look at your pay stub. Those who pay the tax also get the benefit later on. They are not taxing one group of people so they can give it all to another.

Amy...I had a laugh too when Brian asks the side kick what an Elite is.  Ummm....no..it's not someone that thinks they're better than you!  I just shake my head in wonder everytime she opens her mouth.  Well, I'm so glad that Obama/Biden will be the second half of the interview series.  It's always good to go last and I know their interview will have substance to it!!

LAphoenix...I agree that Obama/Biden are not all about the vote, but a sincere reaching out to people, of all kinds, in all areas.  That's why we love them!  That's why they will win!

SuzFive, about Social Security: we are not all taxed at the same rate!  There is a cap on the amount of wages to which the Social Security tax is applied!

We "all" pay 6.2% (and our employers pay another 6.2%, for a total of 12.4%) of our income UP TO A CERTAIN POINT into social security.

This "certain point" increases a little bit every year.  In 2007 it was $97,500.  In 2008 it is $102,000.

So, those of us who make anywhere up to $102,000 are taxed 6.2%.  But the payment freezes there.  The maximum anyone in the U.S. will pay into Social Security in 2008 is $6,324.  So someone who earns $204,000 is only taxed 3.1%.  Someone who earns $306,000 is taxed 2%.  Someone who earns $1,020,000 ("a million and twenty thousand") still only pays $6,324 -- or six-tenths of one percent!!!!!

Since it costs employers no more in Social Security taxes to raise a salary above $102,000 -- that means there has been no incentive on employers to rein in executive and upper-management compensation -- and doesn't that hurt all of us "lower down" in the pay scale?  Why would it be wrong to "redistribute" income downward to people who have less, but apparently just fine and dandy to redistribute it upward to people who already have more than enough?

I really don't understand how people in financial trouble -- or even people not especially well off, i.e., "95% of working Americans" -- can get so upset about the idea of reducing income disparity in this country.  I really don't.

And -- you know what?  History actually shows that everyone in the U.S. has done better economically under Democratic presidents since 1948.  Yes, even the rich, even Republicans.

It's just that, under Republican presidents, the richest 5% see their income increase much more than people in lower brackets do.  The richest see less of an increase in their own incomes under Republicans (1.9%) than under Democrats (2.12%), but they see more of an income gap between themselves and the "lower classes" -- does that make them feel richer???

AnnNYC..thanks so much for posting those figures!!  It's great to see!!  I actually do remember how happy I was during the Clinton years.  And I'm not joking on that.  Things were going well.  I wasn't rich by any means, but I was able to have a happy life without stressing over how to pay the bills each week.  These last few years have been awful.  And even before my dx.  But with the dx...it has been extra painful in the way of finances.  I'm still holding off on going to the doctor until money improves.  I know I'm not alone in that boat.  I really liked your comments!!!!  Thanks again for that post!

I've got to have little faith in people who voted for Bush in 2004- brainwashed, you betcha, by that administration's upping the terrorism level when things got murky for Bush and to try to scare people into voting republican.

I personally don't think socialism and liberal are bad words. I don't think taking care of to make sure the elderly are cared for in their last years is a negative. I think it's a human right.

The event Obama is planning in Chicago will be the day after the election.  At Grant Park, and right by Lake Michigan.  If this happens, I'm guessing the numbers of people there will be amazing.

Im home and I don't know what the heck is going on with the campaign news.  I did read that McCain blasted "GW."   Think its long overdue and since he voted with Bush 90% of the time, his words sound empty.

I had an awful day today.  It put my whole perspective on things back into reality.  I had to evaluate two different women with Stage 4 BC.  The first is was in her 40's and newly diagnosed bone mets.  Found out cause her hip broke.  They couldn't do surgery or put a pin in it cause there is too much mets there.  She needs radiation daily for 2 weeks and the hospital wanted to discharge her to us - then transport her back and forth to the hospital every day via ambulance. She wanted to stay at the hospital during this cause can you imagine being moved like that with a broken hip?  My facility wouldn't take her because it would cost them $600.00/day just for transportation.  Not counting her medications and such.  Another person lost in the health care system.

Now I go to another hospital.  a former gym teacher...so she was in pretty good shape lol.  Diagnosed with BC 1991, mets 2003, and now new dx of leptomeningeal mets = spinal fluid.  Anyways she had an omaya catheter put in and needs some therapy before she goes home.  Amy your gonna love this story.  So I read her history and physical  and it says she is single and lives alone...I'm worried how will she be alone?  I go into to talk to her and when I asked her about living alone she said "I live with my lover."  OK - so there is this guy in the room that looks her age.  Then she say "she works 9-5."  They have been together 20 years!  No where on the face sheet is her SO telephone number for an emergency contact.  Such a sweet lady and I swear she looked just like my high school gym teacher lol.  BTW - we are taking her!

The reason for these 2 stories is r/t  health care.  I got to thinking that there are many reasons I like Obama, but his health care idea are so good.  He wont allow pre-existing conditions.  Might be the #1 reason I'm for him.

Thats all - have a good night.

LuAnn.....You and I think alike!  I voted for Obama the first day it was possible...as did my husband.  We beleive he is the best candidate...He is calm, cerebreal, thoughtful and obviously intelligent.  We think he will surround himself with people who will be an asset to his administration, and that he will make thoughtful decisions.

However.....I am deeply concerned about McCain's age...and the fact that he has had cancer at least four times.....The very thought of Sara Palin becoming President is enough to terrify me.....Like you, I did not like her from the beginning.....You mentioned that she was smug.....You are right, and hearing you say it made me realize that that is one of the reasons I don't care for "Sarah"....

Colin Powel's endorsement of Obama meant a lot to me, as I have a lot of respect for Powel.  His words were measured, thoughtful and rang true.  What a blow to McCain.....

    So....Tonight things look pretty good for Obama....even in Ohio...where I live...and Penn....

Can we all agree that you build a house from the bottom up???  I think that's a basic rule.  In fact, my hubby is a builder, I'm sure he can verify that rule.  The republicans have been trying to build from the top down, and now the big collapse.  Why are they surprised?  And now the corporations are reaping benefits.  Not only in bail outs, but also in getting cheaper employment for more qualified people.  So many of us are now looking for new jobs, or extra jobs and come with all the qualifications, but companies say they will only pay so much.  What are we to do?  We have to pay bills and mortgage and rent,so we take the job.  This entire economy is a win/win for the fat cats.  It's to much.  And now the troll says no taxes for them?  What?  Who is paying for all of this mess?  It's so basic people.  Where's the confusion?

msnbc.com video: McCain, Palin on what makes a ‘terrorist’

If you haven't watched this interview watch it!  Forget the troll, watch the side kick, watch her smug faces, watch her screw up what the definition of Elite is!!!  Brian was trying to give her all kinds of hints as to what Elite means, and she was just plain dumb on it.  Yes, she should be a VP...right!   And she refers to the troll as "his" running mate and when the troll says something about her not being invited to a cocktail party, look at her face!!  What a very spiteful woman this is!!!!  Scary to be sure!!  And absolutely smug.  Keep moving forward everyone....we are almost there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope SP never needs the services of an elite fighting force.  Actually I found McPain's responses even more irritating than hers.  What is his obsession with Georgetown cocktail parties anyway?  And still going on about the Ayers thing, even going back to it after Williams changed the subject.  Don't his advisors tell him about the polls and what an ineffective strategy Ayers is?  He keeps saying we need to know the truth about Obama's connection to him, which makes it sound as though *he* knows the truth but just isn't telling.  How does he know there's "truth" to learn?  What exactly does he "want" Obama to reveal??  And you noticed that SP didn't answer the question about whether abortion clinic bombers should be considered domestic terrorists.  Just tapped danced around that answer like . . . Shirley Temple?

Cherryl, I don't know about the red alert.  Now that McC has trashed GW, GW may take his red alert and go home.

Wow, I have been away all day and come home to pages of posts and all these things are still on bill ayers.  Haven't we heard enough of this guy yet?  I can't blame Obama for what an adult did when he was 8 years old for one thing.  People do change over time, and the McCain campaign keeps taking words out of context.  I heard them mention something about him saying he didn't do enough and make it sound like he is talking about the here and now.  That statement is in regards to the vietnam war time.  Most people opposed that war and were very vocal about it.  So are we to consider every person in the United States that openly said anything bad about vietnam to be horrible people.  I understand the man did some bad things but the point is Obama DIDN"T do those things AYERS DID.  I am so sick of hearing that same saying over and over again.  It is like she is one of those toy dolls that when you press their belly they say the same thing over and over "Obama associates with terrorists" "Obama shouldn't be president" "Vote for me because I think I'm cute" "Vote for me because I won a beauty pageant" "Vote for me because I think I know what the word government might mean"......the list could go on.  Bet we could make alot of money with this one  LOL

I am almost afraid to put on my nightly CNN and get all riled up as I am ready to go to sleep.
