The Respectfully Republican Conversation

PIP - my dh is not a natural born citizen of the US - we have relatives on every continent - I know that people around the world do not like Bush. But we are not re-electing Bush! John McCain is NO George Bush! I care about other countries - I just don't think they should be telling us who to vote for. I do agree our schools do a pitiful job in teaching our children about the world. My children have gone to school overseas - they learned more in the one year they were there than in many years here. Our media is also to blame - World News Tonight should be renamed US News - there is no news of the rest of the world other than where we have a direct interest (Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan). Even a poor country like Bangladesh has news that covers other parts of the world.

Is Joe Biden for real? Why would the world test Obama? The world is in love with Obama LOL! What he said should get him a checkup in a psychiatric ward. And the other side talks about Gov. Palin.  "I've forgotten more about foreign policy than my colleagues know" Isn't that why Obama picked him - looks like questionable judgement. I can see Al Queda testing Obama depending on how he handles things in the Middle East but the rest of the world - they are too mesmerized.

If you haven't watched them already - for a good laugh watch the videos that I posted above from the Al Smith dinner. They are both funny. McCain looks much more comfortable than Obama though.

Obama is back to critizing McCain for owning more than one home.  This coming from a man who got his mansion with the help of Tony Rezko, the felon and influence peddler, who helped finance all of Obama's campaigns.  Every time Obama points a finger at McCain, he makes it worse for himself. 

Pam the Dixie Chicks were not imprisoned for "her" remarks.........if fact she has written a follow up song concerning her dislike of Bush.........the problem is that they were more of a country band and when it comes to Country music it's best not to say derogatory remarks concerning our President on foreign land......"her" fan base considered her a "traitor"....but she certainly had the right to say whatever she wanted about President Bush  she just has to live with the coincidence of her actions.................if they had been a rock or hip hop band her fans would have celebrated her remarks and she would have instantly become a legend........Pink here I will pull you away from the flames...........I love the Canadians...........after all we get 65% of our oil from you guys.............if it weren't for ya'll we wouldn't be going anywhere........I listen to the bbc all the time............go figure.........I like the accent...........Shokk

Crap Rosemary last year when I checked we were getting about 65% of our oil from Canada but nonetheless Canada supplies us with more imported oil then anyone else..........Linda there is not one person here in the United States regardless if they are a citizen or not, legal or not that cannot walk into any county Hospital and receive excellent medical care and yes Linda as my Republican sisters here know I do spew my opinion but I always welcome others as well........of course America does not stand alone.............we have good friends all over the world...........including Canada..............as far as the right choice of whom wins this election it all depends what your beliefs are...............for me as a Conservative first, a Republican second Obama is just about my worse nightmare......... up and foremost is his stance not only on abortion but his stance on late term abortion and if the baby survives the abortion (it's not to be tended to).......I think that is murder............that is my opinion...........for someone over at the  other thread they think McCain is a bad choice even though he is not a Conservative...........it's all perspective..........Shokk

Just wanted to add that I'm sorry if I sound like I am baiting or criticizing.  I am enjoying the conversation and trying to understand.  I will be visiting family in the States in a few weeks and will be glad that the election will be over so I can do some serious shopping!!

Ok I'm back and I am sitting in my office with my sunglasses on...............it reminds me of when I was in college and hung over wearing sunglasses in class..............Pink regardless of whom brought it to the media's attention McCain hasn't been going through his tax returns, whether or not he is a "licensed plumber" (means he doesn't belong to the Union), his marital status, implying that he is "only a plumber".........."what plumber makes 250,000.00 a year".......ok I am sure there are plenty of plumbers that make that much............just the same they have been dogging him and he didn't do anything wrong.............Shokk

Linda I never said they didn't get billed.........all I am saying is that you can always get care..........even without insurance............I have ok insurance and I still owe several thousands dollars but I still get some of the best care this country has to offer............I wouldn't want to live anywhere else..........when I first started reading here (bc.org) about 2 years ago there was a lady from Barbados that had been dx with breast cancer and they didn't even have an onc. on the Island to take care of her...............Shokk

Shokk, I have to disagree respectfully about our health care.  I have a friend that was very poor, she had cancer and got 1 chemo treatment which was way over 1000 dollars, she couldn't pay it so they wouldn't treat her, even if she had had insurance she probably could not have afforded the co-pay.  She died because she could not find the help she needed in time to save her life.

I also am a McCain girl, I admire him so much and think he will make a change for the better.  He is a strong man and will handle whatever he has to with dignity and class.  Cindy is wonderful, she helps so many.  I think Obama will lead us straight into more trouble.  Palin, I do admire her, she puts on the good ole girl act but she is one smart cookie and she has heart.  My main thing is I do not believe in abortion and can you imagine putting a live baby in a biohazard box and just waiting for it to die, it breaks my heart.

I also think what we do here in the US affects the whole world in one way or another and I do care what other countries think of us and what we do.

I don't do political thread much because in the past I have been attacked for having an opinion but I am posting my opinion here because I am at least sincere in how I feel and what I believe.

Harley I could not agree with you more about we should be able to post anywhere without being attacked of course we know that isn't the case but nonetheless Sparks I have no idea why your friend was not treated...........I have a close relative that volunteers at Parkland Hospital which is part of University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Parkland is the county hospital of Dallas.............she told me that anyone that walks through their doors is treated regardless including cancer...........maybe your friend went to a private hospital or it wasn't the public hospital..........she didn't have Medicaid?.........Pam I hope you will join us again.........you did have breast cancer right?.........you have every right to post here.............we may be republicans and regardless of what you may have been led to believe we are not so ignorant to not realize that what happens here in the States  has an impact on our Canadian  friends as well as our amigos to the south of us.............Pretty I hope you will join us again............if Shirley starts cussing at you just tell her to stick a puck in it...........right like  ice hockey.............ok  girls and  Mr. Spouse everyone have a pleasant night............Shokk

Another Canadian here, who really has no opinion, for a change. .......I am learning a lot though.

Spar2 and Shokk - as to healthcare I think it depends on what part of the country you live in. My neighbor lost her job two years ago and along with it her health insurance. This past summer she started having bad back pain but did not want to go to the doctor because she lacked insurance. The pain finally got so bad she relented and went to see her PMD who took an x-ray and told her she had "arthritis". The pain did not get better - got much worse - so bad that she could hardly walk. I told her she could go to the ER - they could not refuse her treatment (at least not here in Wisconsin). She finally went - of course they were going to give her pain pills and send her home without doing any tests but another neighbor who went with her insisted that they at least do a blood test. The blood test results came back completely abnormal - she was admitted and diagnosed with multiple myeloma. She has been in the hospital for the past six weeks. The hospital helped her to get some high risk insurance through the state (I believes she pays a small amount per month for it). She has gotten radiation, dialysis, chemo. She has the same rad onc that I had and also the same oncology group. She lives with her elderly mother (84) who cannot take care of her alone. She can't go to rehab because she is on dialysis and can't go to a nursing home because she is getting chemo. Not sure how long they will keep her in the hospital. She still cannot walk by herself. She could use everyone's prayers right now.

I hope that people feel welcome to post here. I think we can all agree to disagree and still be friends. I too realize that what happens here affects others around the world. I care about what others think of us - just don't want them telling me who to vote for.
