herbert hoover's family must be feeling better now that hoover will no longer be considered the worst president in america's history, thanks to george bush.

the gop is in a total state of disarray, as it should be, look what eight years of their rule have done to our country.

fortunately, the country is finally fed up with the republican agenda and their lies, fear and total disregard to the good americans that gave them the opportunity to govern 8 years ago.

    mission accomplished?

economy strong until two weeks ago?

president obama is going to have to spend his first term just cleaning up the mess.

Well we don't have too many illegals sneaking across, but there are people inquiring into what is involved in immigrating to Canada. And my liberal American sisters insist that they going to send my nephews to me if the US reinstitutes the draft. What I will do with another 3 to 6 heavy eaters is beyond my imagining.

I don't know if Palin is the worst VP candidate ever, Agnew was pretty pathetic and he actually got to be a VP (for a while). I'm going to be in the US next week so I will miss the Canadian election. We are plotting our strategic voting. 5 parties, have to balance off who you like the best against who you dislike the most and the probabilities.

Very funny post, Cherry!  Do you think the conservatives have a similar plan for when Obama wins?  Where will they all go?  Alaska?  Argentina?

I was happy to see that Elizabeth Edwards is making appearances, talking up Obama's health plan.  She said her cancer hasn't progressed since the recurrence was found, so excellent news there.  I think she's a great role model for people living with Stage IV.  Active and totally engaged.  Understandably she's spending a lot of time with her kids.  I hope she has many, many more years.

So, "the gloves are coming off," meaning we're going to be hearing about Obama "palling around with terrorists" ad nauseum until Nov 4.  No doubt the anti-Christ, Muslim crap will be rearing its head again (to use one of Sarah's favorite expressions).  No one will ever accuse them of letting truth and decency get in the way of a good attack.

mke I  was one of those inquiring. If only canada was a bit warmer.

laura- hopefully hoover's family realized much sooner that Bush had suprassed Herbert in that area and have been resting more comfortably for some time.

did anyone watch bill maher last night? I wondered what I missed....

We can only hope! Actually, I don't think they should all leave, just the conservative, racially biased oldest (and definitely not greatest) generation  who cry white discrimination when asked to be racially sensistive.

McCain is the lead story in the new Rolling Stone magazine:

    http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain/page/1

They hit hard at everyone, and have no political affiliation.

It's a long article, but worth reading every word. The man is scary and mean. The heck with Palin. She can be a puppet to someone. It's McCain who scares the crap out of me...He needs to be the focus of our concerns. She's a gnat to his Africanized bee.

How about Queen Latifa and Tina Fey! My favorite part of SNL was when Tina/Sarah said marriage was between 2 unwilling teenagers vs. gay marriage. We howled last night at that one!

Wonderful pics, Amy.  Your cousin is adorable!  And Matthews looks thin!

The debate skit was great.  I, too, loved the "unwilling teenagers" line.  And Biden's "god love him but he's a raving maniac" bit.

Thanks for the Rolling Stone link, Anne.  The more I learn about McCain, the more he seems to be very much like Bush.  The badboy behavior that continued into his 40s, well past the "careless youth" age.  The nepotism.  The intellectual shortcomings.  The hubris.  He's scary in the same way that Bush was scary.

I wonder if the Obama campaign has been keeping the Keating Five scandal as a weapon in reserve.  A big fat arrow in their quiver that they're going to fire when needed.  Given the "gloves off" pronouncement, I suspect the need will be soon.

    Okay, this is my observation:

Wasn't it years ago that Ayers was involved in some weatherman/bomb group? And didn't he serve his term in prison for that? If so, that means he has met his sentencing objective and was released from prison, and has since been living the life of any other American? And if I'm right about all of this>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>why, oh why do the Republican Christian rights continue to persecute him? I always thought that people who believed in Christianity believed in Jesus Christ, which means that you forgive, or turn the other cheek, or  even lend a hand? I have never seen so many supposed Christians ready to "do battle" with anyone who committed any crime years and years ago!

Just because Ayers "lives in his neighborhood" and donated a whole big whopping $200. to his campaign--that doesn't mean they are best friends, or even see each other on some personal level. Yes, they may have been on a committee together, big deal. There were probably republicans on that committee who have "sinned" and just haven't been caught.

If these people keep trying to make something out of nothing, they might get a stone thrown back at them--and their glass houses would be broken!!

I second the thanks for the Rolling Stone link. Will definitely check that out!

Any "sexism" towards Palin has come directly from the Republican campaign--hiding her away and keeping her from the press. I think they only let Katie interview her because they thought that Katie was a woman and knew how to "behave herself." They forgot that she is a journalist, and can be quite tenascious about getting her questions answered completely, and that just because she's a woman, she does not have to "PLAY NICE." And then to have McCain sit by her and try to keep her from answering the questions without him directing Palin, talk about sexist.

And what's so bad about vagina and how that's a dirty word. I happen to like my vagina very much, and as I always like to say, if you play with the boys you have to have steel ovaries!!

    Palin doesn't obviously.Wink

Yes, the Weatherman thing happened in the early 70s, when Obama was 8.  Ayers did his time and became a professor and an advocate of school reform.  The guilt-by-association card is a weak one for McCain, and one that potentially could blow up in his face.  Not only does he have the Keating scandal, a scandal he participated in that involved millions of dollars, but there's his seeking the endorsement of that crazy Christian preacher (the one who said Katrina was God's retribution on gays), Palin's very wacky religious connections (do they want Obama to release the video of her being blessed by the creepy exorcist?), Palin's current Troopergate and personal finance investigations, her refusal to honor a subpeona, and McCain's sitting on the board of an organization with connections to very anti-semitic, racist groups.  Really, McCain should think twice about going there.  Right now, people care more about their jobs and their bank accounts than tenuous political associations.  Unless McCain convinces them he's got an amazing new economic plan and will stay on a steady course, they're not going to give him the majority.  The electoral map's looking pretty bleak for him now.

So is McCain going to follow Palin's lead and say "maverick" as many times as possible on Tuesday, or will Fey's joke about the "maverick" drinking game put the kibosh on that?  He might get in a few "my friends" this time though.

I got my Obama T-Shirt in the mail on Friday, and I've already washed it twice because I don't want to stop wearing it!

My mom raised an eyebrow when I left for the airport this afternoon -- she said, "are you sure you should wear that?  You might wind up on a Terrorist watch-list!"

Ahhh...the joys of being BLUE in a RED state (Texas) although I think I am starting to see a purplish hue.

I normally travel Sunday nights to my client site for the week, but on Tuesday, November 4th, I will be at HOME one way or another to cast my vote in person.  I just don't trust absentee ballots to get counted.  At least at the polls, there will be people from both parties keeping an eye on things!   Come to think of it, I might need Wednesday to recover from all the celebrating I will do when Obama wins by a landslide.

Actually Ayers never was convicted of a crime.  The organization that McCain was on the board of was called the U.S. Council for World Freedom and it was condemned by the anti-defamation league.  It was involved in funneling money to the Contras in the 80s and got into hot water for tax reasons.  And there's also McCain's friendship with the conman who was Anne Hathaway's beau.  He threw a birthday party for McCain two years ago.

Donna, my husband wears his new Obama teeshirt proudly and gets lots of thumbs-ups from strangers!

Sometimes I cannot believe the lengths faux news will go to try to smear Obama, who needs McCain ads when there's a fake right wing "news" station trying to make a mountain out of a nonexistent molehill with 60 minute campaign ads transparently veiled as news "specials". Faux's base doesn't need convincing, that Obama is the devil incarnate and Palin is just what the country needs to climb out of this financial mess. Other than the republican base, everyone else watches real news.

a beautiful early fall day here that feels even more beautiful with the thought that

finally, good americans with hope and love for their country, hard working people that want better for their families, neighbors and friends are going to finally see  change coming on november 4.

the end to the bush regime and the thought of more of the same is near.

Obama has been a family man who is devoted to his wife and children.  McCain's first wife spent years waiting for him to return from being held prisoner.  She loved him so much and he left her and his children for a younger woman.  He obviously has no concern for anything but himself.  He is too quick to make a decision and rushed into the Sarah Palin pick.  He didn't think about what could happen to this country if she needs to fill his shoes. As far as I'm concerned look at the character of the two... I think Obama wins in my book.

     Well said Katie.

I can't wait to see the debates tonight, even though McCain clearly has the upperhand with town hall  because it doesn't allow for follow up questions.  I do think that the audience will want to hear Obama's intelligent understanding of the economics vs. McCain's blaming Obama for everything.

Has anyone been watching the view? Eliz. has been out of control horrible and Whoopie, Joy, Barbara and Sherri haven't been  letting her get away with the crap Rosie used to let her get away with. Eliz lost her ability to whine poor me, Rosie won't let me talk. because it's now apparent to everyone that the issue was never Rosie, just Eliz's whining and trying to appear the victim. I swear Eliz must be being paid by the repubs because she';s not smart enough to parrot their talking points on her own. Eliz even makes Sherri, who's not sure the the world isn't flat & believes christianity was the first religion & thinks the bible is a literal including all the animals on "Noah's" boat, look bright.

Obama...I can't watch anything that has to do with the Republicans patting themselves on the back.  I refuse to let my energy go there.  I just get aggravated at the idiocy, so I now just try to give my positive energy to Obama/Biden.  I am going to watch tonight, because regardless of the forum, or location, Obama is going to rock this thing!!!  His presence has such a quiet strength to it.  McCain can have his little angry circus around him, but its not going to shake Obama!!  I know in my heart he will be president!!!  Each day he is gaining more and more!!!  So..let the republicans have all the angry energy..we don't need it!!!!  Obama in '08..it's almost here!!!!!! :-)

BTW...i loved your comment on the noah's ark!!! ;-)

I don't usually watch The View except for clips, but I've never understood how Elizabeth got that job in the first place.  You think they could have found a better spokesperson for the conversative point of viiew.  Maybe Patricia Heaton will be available now that her show's been canceled.  At least she might be funny.

I don't want to make any predictions about the debate, but if either one strays far from the very bad economic news of the day, they're going to be in trouble.  People are mad and desperate.  The global markets are crashing and everyone is blaming the U.S.  If the rest of the world didn't hate us before, they really hate us now.  Can you imagine Sarah Palin, the doofus, winking hockey mom, running the country right now?   Criminy.

Just heard that Chuck Hagel's wife has endorsed Obama.  They live in "communist country."  I doubt that Hagel will go so far as to endorse him, but maybe his wife's endorsement will help Obama maintain his lead in Virginia.  Virginia!   Who would have thunk.

LAP, I was just thinking about how the rest of the world is going to hate us more now because of our hubris in causing many of the financial problems that are going on today. We really need Obama, who understands the need for people part of the world rather than Palin/McCain- who "don't much care" what the rest of the world thinks.

Okay, I am finally in front of the TV, wearing my Obama T-Shirt, ready for the showdown.  I really hope that Obama puts the last nail in McCain's coffin tonight (if he hasn't already!).

The economy is the largest issue by far, and Obama wins by a landslide on that topic.  For added measure, I would love to hear BO call out McCain's anger issues, erratic behavior, flip-flops, lies and, finally, his dreadful decision to select Palin as a running mate.

And if McCain tries to fling the "unpatriotic" crap, I hope BO comes on really strong and calls out Mac for every thing he's ever done.

For drinking fun - I will take a shot everytime I hear the words "Keating 5".

Laura...are you feeling positive now!!  Obama rocked it as expected!!!!  The angry little man did all he could to hold his anger back, but it came out in his body language.  And at the end, did you see his barbie doll wife, with her hands behind her back walking around, while Michelle was walking (on her own) greeting people.  I am happy!!  The troll has served his time, hang it up and go retire.  Let someone who gives a crap run this country!!!  We will win!!! Obama '08..its almost here!!
