Hello Ladies,
Please say prayers for mom. She has been having some increased back pain. We go for scans today. We intially thought it was from her liver mets but now wonder if it is her bone mets causing this problem, last bone scan was in January of this year.
I hope results come back ok!
God Bless

My prayers go out to you and your family. Hopefylly the Tests come out ok for your mom!
My mum is dealing with Colon Cancer and is due for Surgery on 7/31/08. One of the ways I have managed my dx is by seeing how mum deals with her illness. As long as mum is okay I am fine, so hang in there!

Thank you for welcoming me!
I visited the Oncologist today for the first time and was informed that I am triple negative invasive ductal. My tumor was just over 2cm so I am barely stage 2. I thought that they had taken 2 nodes with my lumpectomy but today I was told that they took 5 nodes and all were negative, margins clean.
I will be starting chemo in 2 weeks. A port will be inserted after drawing my base labs. I will receive Adriamycin and Cytoxin every 2 weeks for 4 cycles then taxol every 2 weeks for 4 cycles. One month after my last chemo tx I will do radiation,
I am still numb and uncertain. I will get my chemo teaching this week. After that I will be better able to explain all this to my kids so they will understand......especially when I lose my hair. The nurse advised me that many chemo patients gain weight as well. I was shocked!!!! I will have to find a way to tell them without frightening them.
Any suggestions regarding how to tell my children are appreciated. I have so much to learn myself.........it is overwhelming!!!!!

Hi Roya and Welcome!! I'm sorry you had to be here, but if you ever need anything just ask. This group of women are truely a blessing!
How is everyone else doing? I hope all of you are doing well. I will start radiation after I come back from vacation. I hope I can handle the daily schedule and starting school this fall. I'm going to give it my all. I saw my onc today and he sounded as though he was trying to push me into taking Herceptin despite my heart problems. As soon as he mentioned that if my heart got worse, I would be able to get a pace maker, he lost me. I just hope that I'm making the right decision here. I know that if the cancer comes back it will be more aggressive, but who is to say that that won't happen even with the Herceptin? I don't know. I'm gonna put it in Gods hands. Whatever happens, happens.
Anyway, you ladies stay strong and stay out of the heat! Love you my sistas
!!!

Thank you Sharon.
I understand about the Heceptin. May I say that my doc said that the only reason that she is recommending chemo is that there might be just one tiny cancer cell lurking that could cause recurrance later. Even one tiny cell can cause trouble later. She said that chemo is like 'insurance' against that happening. That is why I am choosing to go that route. I will also take radiation later at the end of my treatment.
-
Welcome Roya!!! Sorry you had to join us, but I'm glad to meet you nonetheless. Keep your head up and stick with us.
Hey Sharon!!! How's it going? Glad to hear from you!! So you're starting school? That's great!! I'll be taking a few online classes myself. I'm excited!! Well I have three Taxol tx left (yay!!) I had to postpone a couple because of low blood counts. I even have a little peachfuzz!!!! I do see a lot of gray coming in but its better than nothin. I turned 38 July 28 and I am looking forward to many more. Peace and Blessings Ladies.

Hey, Paula and Trumpet! Just wanted y'all to know that I have a good friend who lives in Dayton and my BIL (to-be) lives in Youngstown! It's really a tiny little planet afterall...
Paula, after you dried your tears, did you toss up some confetti when your boy left for his big coligate adventure? In three years, my son will be doing the same. I love the child to death, but I'm already making plans for redecorating his room, lol. Congrats on your rads, btw...
-
Felicia:
You never know who you will meet up with on your lifes journey.
I was reallyexcited for my son to go to College, now that he has actually left the house I am sad. The good thing is(maybe not) he is only 1 hour away. They have their first scrimmage this weekend and I will see him then. Says, he tired from practice (football).
I will be going to a Survivors picnic tomorrow hosted by the Local Hospital that handles my care, If you ever get to Youngstown please let me know.
Blessings! Paula G

Hey ladies,
Had my second rad tx today. I'm feeling ok. A little tingling in the area when I was rad though. Glad to be finally started. Now I can't wait to finish. Everyone is telling me not to loose weight, but I can't stand all this stuff on me. Running back and fourth to class this fall is gonna take some of this junk off me though. My hair is growing in so pretty. It looks like it wants to start curling up now. My girls and DH love to run the fingers through it. The gray is starting to fade out also. I'll put some pics up for ladies to see soon.
Anywho, you wonderful ladies stay safe.

I pray that everyone is doing well!!! Love you girls

- Hi everyone, I am new here and hope you can help me to feel welcome. I just had a bilateral mastectomy in April 2008 with a DIEP flap. So far everything is going well. My mother is also a survivor. she had 1 removed, and took tamoxafin for 5 years and 10 years later it showed up in the other side, so when I developed it in one side, I just elected to have them both removed. This also gave me the bonus of having a reduction that I needed and a tummy tuck
. God Bless, my new friends.

Hello All!
Just finished my last Rads today. Hurray. Rad/Onc stopped me 2 treatments short of plan because of skin issues. I am okay with this and I trust his judgement. Going back to work next week. Thankfully, my boss says I can work from home for a couple of weeks.
I am going to treat myself and buy some new clothes.
May you all be BLESSED.

Hey Sharray,
Welcome!! Sorry you have to be here but glad you found us. These boards have been a life line for me. And I hope you come here often because it does help. I just had my last Taxol tx today and will be doing radiation in a couple of weeks. Because I am HER2nue positive I will be doing herceptin for a year but anything that helps is cool with me. So you have had or are you scheduled to have surgery? I was thinking about the DIEP flap myself instead of TRAM flap but I'll have to wait until I'm through with herceptin before I do recon. Let me know how things are going!!
Hey Poolas!!
Congrats, on finishing Rads. I start in a couple of weeks. I had my last Taxol tx today. Now, you know you're on the right track; that shopping for new clothes sounds good! When I lose these 15 Ibs I gained from chemo that is definitely on my to do list!! Have Fun!!!!
Peace and Blessings

Howdy, Sharray and welcome. Glad you found us...
Your journey sounds a bit like mine: mom a survivor (her recurrance was stage 4, though and she died shortly after - that was '92) so when DCIS was found in 04 on the right side, I also opted for the bilateral. I had an IGAP last July (a 3-year reconstruction process!). Hope you are enjoying your new girls and tummy!
Lovin that avatar, btw!

Hi There, Yogi and Felicia! Thanx 4 your response. Yes I already had the flap procedure done in April 2008, so far so good! It healed really fast and had less scarring than I anticipated. I am very pleased with it. At 45, I just was not ready to take off my bra like my mother at night and lie my boobs up on the hamper. lol I am going to be re-evaluated on Sept. 23rd to see if they have settled enough. and stopped shifting. If so they are going to do the small graft from my inner thigh to make me two nipples and tattoo on the areolas! then they will really look real. Its nice being able to go braless, as I needed a reduction anyway. And I left my relationship of 10 years prior to this and was very concerned abt. my future love life.. well it's been fine too, I tell them abt. it up front and most of them dont seem to mind. And now finally I met up with and old flame from 25 years ago and we have rekindled our romance, he has even proposed! So I guess this boob thing isn't all they make it out to be, it's really not that important if u can keep your self-esteem up. I'm just so....happy right now, the depression has finally subsided, and someone loves me for me , no matter how many scars I have. Luckily I dont have to have any chemo or radiation tx's. My mother is now 76 and she just finished tamoxafin again and she is doing well also. Unfortunately my little cousin just passed 3 months ago due to complications from breast ca. @ only 35 years of age. I still mourn for her every day.. I think that's why I have such a hard time trying to figure out why he left me here and took her from me... we were very close. I hope u have a great holiday. Wishing You all the best---So nice to meet U!
