Lindsey is throwing a temper tantrum about Biden's nominee for the SC because he did not pick the one that Lindsey offered as his choice. Lindsey feels that the SC needs someone who has had a public school education and not an Ivy League one. Meanwhile the nominee went to Yale for undergrad and Law school but perhaps she was awarded scholarships to this prestigious institution? I worked my way through an Ivy League school for both an undergrad and graduate school degrees so I take exception to his finding fault with her educational pathway. My concern about his choice was he touting her because she espoused his way of thinking, which to me is an effrontery to any democratic process, and he thought this would sway the conservative SC members more towards supporting repugnican viewpoints. For a court that is supposed to support the constitution and to be devoid of political leanings, I am not seeing this in their recent rulings and feel they need to retake constitutional law or remember their oath of office. Thomas needs to recuse himself for any rulings that can be tainted by his wife's political stance. No one can tell me that they do not have "pillow talk" that influences his decisions. He's a creep as is Kavanagh and it riles me that we have two women abusers on the highest court in the land and they get to stay there until they retire or die. They will veto any chance for women to ever have equality and the right to make their own decisions.

Meanwhile, Lindsey needs to remember, it is POTUS who makes the decision about SC nominees, not some asshole senator who is a backstabbing creep. He is not the man today that John McCain and Biden befriended/collaborated with when they were in the senate. He is a turncoat as evil as the Loon and Putin.

Someone should warn Judge Jackson to be sure to always cover her Coke cans with a napkin. Wouldn't want any pubic hairs getting on her drinks.

You will not grow if you sit in a beautiful flower garden, but you will grow if you are sick, in pain, experience losses, and if you do not put your head in the sand, but take the pain and learn to accept it, not as a curse or punishment, but as a gift to you with a very, very specific purpose.

I'm not surprised by Graham at all. Graham is everything Betrayal brought up as well as a just plain wishy-washy as to what he thinks will be to his benefit and gain as he lately has done. In the meantime, Marsha Blacburn is giving Pres. Biden hell for selecting ANYONE for the SC court right now due to the Ukranian events. Not sure why the Reps. think that they can't be seen through when they pull these stunts. I know it won't happen, but Thomas should be a retired Justice. We are at the mercy of too many creeps and people with the mind-set of Amy Coney Barrett who has no business being a member of the court. We really and truly need what tempering effect we can get from a judge who will take her duties seriously and thoughtfully w/o partisanship and who has total respect for the oath of office. Thinking here of the arc of justice and Judge Jackson specifically. It is time for a black woman for sure and one like Judge Jackson is truly a time that has come.

    Such bravery, such resistance.

May be an image of text that says 'Middle Age Riot @middleageriot Ukrainian resistors: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself." Anti-mask resistors: "It makes my face itch."'

How ignoble of those who wish to defy using masks. What putrid representatives they are. So sorry you all have to be put through such agony but you have shown yourselves and it's not pretty.

Great to see you back here, Trill. Missed you, was concerned by your absence. You've more than made up for it with your incisive posts & memes. Now stick around!

Graham is a hypocrite with a very short memory--he voted to confirm Jackson for her Federal Appellate judgeship. His criticism of the "Harvard-Yale pipeline" betrays a class resentment. So he went to a state university for both undergrad & law school? Does that make him more qualified (actually, does it have ANY bearing at all)? FWIW, I went to public K-12 schools, a free NYC commuter university (Brooklyn College, because at 16 I was too young to leave home and too poor to afford tuition & dorms) and a faith-based law school--when I attended it was U. of Puget Sound, which is Methodist, and then became Seattle U. Law School, which is Jesuit. Does that have any bearing on the quality of my education? Nope--neither inferior nor superior.I do not resent anyone who was able to get into an Ivy League school at any level of post-secondary study. Wistful, maybe, but neither envious nor resentful. Hope the chip on Lindsay's shoulder leaves splinters.

As much as I don't want to see our kids put in harm's way as boots on the ground in Ukraine, part of me remembers that Hitler started with Czechoslovakia, then Poland, and swept across Europe (allied with Mussolini & Franco). Only Allied military action stopped him. I don't think Putin's desire to "put the band back together" will end with "making Ukraine Russian again." He will try the Baltic trio (Latvia, Lithuania, and especially Estonia which has a large Russian-speaking minority) next--and probably the majority-Muslim Asian "-stan" former SSRs. And I'm sure he has wet dreams about taking back every former Iron Curtain nation to re-establish the USSR and its former satellites. He wants a Soviet bloc without the economic failure of Communism; and a Russian Empire with him as Tsar--minus royal descent or even "divine right of kings" (because as a former loyal KGB head, he was fine with the "Godless" part of Russian Communism--I doubt he harbors any religious sentiments beyond considering Eastern Orthodoxy as a hallmark of Russian ethnicity, with actual faith being irrelevant). I have Ukrainian-American acquaintances (Bob has a colleague who's very active in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood and Ukrainian RC church); they all fear that Putin will annex the country and purge his critics before expanding his takeovers.

Zelensky turned down Biden's offer of asylum, preferring to stay and fight for & with his fellow Ukrainians. Every male between 18-60 has been conscripted, given assault rifles for the asking, and forbidden from leaving the country; families have been instructed as to how to make Molotov cocktails.

Interesting to see Maher's "180" about-face last night from last week's blithe assessment of Ukraine as "the birthplace of the Russian empire anyway," and dismissal of concern about Putin's intent to invade and annex it. No criticism this week of the need for NATO, either. At this point, I watch for the guests and the "New Rules" written by his staff--not for him per se.

To digress a little, on one of the "lifestyle" BCO threads I recounted my internet-and-phone nightmare adventure with SW Airlines last night. We were worried that for our nonstop, a 5pm arrival time in NOLA wouldn't get us to our hotel before 6:30 or even 7, when our BFFs would be too tired to go out to dinner (having left Midway at 5:45am). So I logged in to our SW account and found a banner across the top of out itinerary that there was a problem with our reservation and to scroll down for the new flight times. Well, even worse--the new flight wouldn't get us in till 9:45 pm (and heaven knows when to the hotel). And the return flight, leaving 9:45. wouldn't get us to MDW till almost 1am.

So--still fuming that we'd not been notified--I booked us an outgoing one-stop (Austin, no change of plane) leaving MDW at 8:50am (still too early for a couple of night owls) and arriving 2pm; return flight leaving MSY 5:45 (instead of the 7pm of our original flight), with a 2-hr St. Louis layover & plane change, getting in at the same 10:50pm as originally. So up came the confirmation page...with FOUR flights (the new ones AND the original--coulda been worse, SIX flights including the ones SW had arbitrarily chosen). I had to bite the bullet and phone the airline...with a 55-min. wait time. Imagine me sitting there after midnight, refreshing my browser & e-mail (the one with the original flights). Over an hour later, we were finally connected to an agent, who apologized for the snafu. She explained that yesterday, SW had experienced systemwide cancellations & reschedules of flights booked before now (we'd booked in Nov.). We were supposed to have been notified today, but I caught it just as it happened because I wanted to book a better flight. She brought up our itinerary, and lo & behold, it was only the new flights i'd booked. And the Early Bird & Business Select we'd prepaid were in there.

So why is this in the political thread? Because as I was stuck on hold, it began to occur to me that perhaps Putin was exacting revenge for having his & Lavrov's assets frozen by having his troll farms screw with Western e-commerce. Of course, such was not the case (not yet), but in a way he was indirectly & passively exacting revenge by burrowing into our heads and turning us into paranoid conspiracy theorists.

As I experience it, appreciation of beauty is access to the soul. With beauty in our lives, we walk and carry ourselves more lightly and with a different look in our eyes. To look into the eyes of someone beholding beauty is to look through the windows of the soul. Anytime we catch a glimpse of soul, beauty is there; anytime we catch our breath and feel "How beautiful!," the soul is present. -Jean Shinoda Bolen

Divine, I like them all but that last meme of yours just rings out. I read a piece that said some people would be so happy to have my worst days. It is hard to understand such selfishness as that displayed over masks and vaccines. People have just gone to such extremes with their realities so horribly skewered it is scary.

The over the top heated mask debates leave me….well, I’m not sure what the emotions are that I feel. Maybe that they were so over-blown and unnecessary. It makes me sick to my stomach that some people, employees, were even killed right here in the U.S. because they were doing their job trying to get others to adhere to wearing a mask in their place of business. It should never, ever have happened! It sickens me more now that mask mandates are being further relaxed with less people wearing them. All those school board debates, all those protestors at hospitals, all of it, such rage and anger over something that should have been common human decency, looking out for each other and slowing the coronavirus down as much as possible.

    This is from Maria Shiver:

This is a powerful message from Ukrainian's First Lady, @olenazelenska_official. She is a mother, a wife, an accomplished professional, a patriot. Never forget that when one person serves in politics, the whole family ends up serving. That is most definitely the case here.

We have been told by the president himself that his family are targets, and still, they stay. Still they remain strong. They talk of calmness and strength. They remind us all that the children are watching. How we convey these world events to our children, our grandchildren, our families, has so much to do with how they manage their hopes and their fears. If this family can stand strong, so can we all! #standwithukraine

Guess the training for a First Lady in Slovenia was missing the critical pieces or the Loon's wife slept through the class. How admirable this President and his first Lady are. He has appealed to the EU to be able to join and I think this country should be granted both EU and NATO membership based on the grit they have shown in standing up to the tiny man Putin. Who knew he was so short and short enough I could slap his face if I had the opportunity. Go Ukraine!
