But the Catholic church supports the use of ED drugs so men can still perform their " procreational duty" even if it stops being a duty after the act. No part in childrearing, etc. Yeah, well didn't God cause that limp "pole" in the first place? Go figure. My body, my choice.

They should ban everyone who supports the Death Penalty too then; as the is against their teachings.....also people who use Birth Control....which seems odd because if you were REALLY against abortion, you should be REALLY pro birth control.
-
I think the real kicker is that although they are anti-abortion, they do not want to financially support those children after birth, provide them with the most basic of health care or nutrition and ensure that their parent(s) remain at the poverty level in some many cases. I was once a Peds nurse and had experiences of child abuse predicated by low socioeconomic status, lack of support systems, immature parents, etc. I could share stories that would appall most people of what was visited on these children and then having these abused children returned to the abusers. Even today we are still reading about abused children who fall through the cracks and become a statistic. I also remember pre-Roe vs Wade, women who self-aborted because it was against the law or they lacked the funding to pay for one (still illegal). Women who died from using a coat hanger to induce an abortion, became septic from using Tide as an abortifacent (or if the child survived their ministrations, they were born with multiple birth defects) or developed septic uteruses (leaving them sterile) or having their legs amputated due to septic clots.
I walked out of church when the priest insisted that all congregants had a moral dury to sign the petition he was sending to a local hospital that provided abortions. Failure to do so meant you could be excommunicated and denied the sacraments. I made the decision to excommunicate myself and have had no regrets. Needless to say, most churches are also male dominated so the misogyny persists. The church played a very small part in providing for and raising my children; therefore it has no right to dictate my lifestyle, moral or ethical code.
How many people on death row were the product of poverty, unwanted, etc.? Given that not all raised under these circumstances end up this way but low intellect can be tied to poor nutritional status, lack of attention, etc.

Betrayal,I am standing up and applauding your post. You say it perfectly!
Also right about the death penalty, Ruth!

I'm trying to understand --how is it that a politician can be forbidden to receive communion, but the other 100 people in the church who express verbal and political support of women's right to decide, are allowed to receive communion? Are there other sins that are job specific?

Spookie it is Val Demmings ( may have the last name spelled wrong ) you are thinking of that is running against Rubio. I hope she gets herself elected. I really don't understand why so many of the Reps. are so dim-witted. I think there are a few that stood out for a short time, but once the fuse burned down they fizzled too.
Catholic Nun's Quote on Abortion
A Catholic Nun Perfectly Explains the Major Hypocrisy of the "Pro-Life" Argument
66.5K SharesMay 17, 2019by ELEANOR SHEEHANFirst Published: February 1, 2017
A Catholic nun's explanation of the term "pro-life" from 2004 is resurfacing — and it's powerful. On PBS's Now With Bill Moyers, Sister Joan Chittister explained why being against abortion doesn't mean you're pro-life.
Here's the full quote:
"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."
Chittister's position is not only informed by her faith, but also her academic experience: she's written over 50 books and has multiple degrees (including a doctorate).
The crux of Chittister's point is that there's a difference between advocating for birth and advocating for that child's entire life. If antiabortion proponents are truly "pro-life," then those same legislators would not argue for defunding programs like those that provide school lunches or health care. Many who oppose abortion also oppose access to contraceptives. Antiabortion congressmen have consistently also advocated for defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides women with birth control options.
Liberals have pointed to Chittister's quote as an argument for the social benefits that Republicans hope to limit without providing feasible options for women if they cannot obtain abortions.
Just my opinion, but it is that overt need to control -- the do as I say or else kind of mind-set. We still haven't gotten over the hump yet.

Yes, that’s her. I have chemo brain attacks periodically. I do hope she can knock him off. I will for sure vote for her,, if DeathSantis doesn’t screw up the voting more than he has
-
Bravo for the nun and her defining pro-birth versus pro-life.

Looking for and enjoying beauty is another way to nourish the soul. The universe is in the habit of making beauty. There are flowers and songs, snowflakes and smiles, acts of great courage, laughter between friends, a job well done, the smell of fresh-baked bread. Beauty is everywhere, ready to nourish the soul. It must only be seen to begin helping us. - Matthew

Spookie, just this morning I saw some polls on Morning Joe that actually had DeSantis getting more votes than the orange thing for the Reps. who should run in 2024. I was speechless -- but then, most of the people through the poll ( for instance Cruz was third on the list after orange ) I would not think would have a chance.
In my mind anyone running as a Reps. is likely to have pages of ammunition to use for out-points. I imagine having such a low orange bar does make a number of these people look fine -- at least to other Reps. but having to get through a national run-up to be on the ticket I think would have so many pitfalls. You could get there, but would anyone ( enough ) seriously vote for you in numbers needed. Why else do all the voter suppressions etc. I hope at the right time we are able to defeat a lot of that. I'm mainly concerned with those states who may change the laws so that they are not required to accept 'the winner', but can delegate ( despite who their voters may desire ) who may be on the ticket, or who may be 'allowed' to be the winner.
-
yes I saw that poll too. And I agree with you. The Ds have a lot of work to do to defeat any R here. I think, hope, it can be done. As for DeathSantis he pissed a lot of ppl here the way he handled the covid vax. Straight out of losers playbook. He’s still playing games with people lives. They won’t forget.

To the side of this: A lady put in a comment from a black person who was told to return to Africa and the black man said " there is no return policy on stolen property".

Your worth is not measured by what you do. Nor can you calculate the degree of your worthiness by what you possess. Your worth is a function of your being. Your being is colorless, genderless, and believe it or not, ageless. Your being is worthy of honor, admiration, and respect. It is a vessel of love and light. It is a beacon of inspiration. -Iyanla Vanzant

Just loving those memes. If I had to just pick one or two I'd be in real trouble. I am rather amused by the last one. It is and has been my personal belief that when the "judgement" time comes we are given the in-sight and power to judge ourselves. Just off the top -- the Mother and Father God have a whole lot better things to do and they already left word about what they find acceptable and non-acceptable. We have had eons to work that out -- so the idea that time is being used to point fingers at, hmmm what was it, Oh yeah, gay marriages and abortions while the rest of the world goes up in smoke just sort of collapses me in laughter.
-
Well, if we didn't give him so much to handle over all those gay marriages and abortions.
-
-
We have had so many great presidents -- who knew how to laugh with you, even at their expense and then there was the orange dour and sour piece of human flotsam.

These are in fact, the kind of people the orange one didn't want anywhere near the U.S. He loves the people of 1/6 much more even though he had no plans to help them -- just tossed them all under the bus which is how he operates. He is such a me, myself and I individual, and he will find there is no one left to help him.
-
and many of them still listen to the orange buffoon.
