I drank G&T #2 with the speeches. I too couldn't stop the teary eyes. What upbeat messages of UNITY.

Must admit, this hard as nails pretty much person lost it during the fireworks. I worked so hard to hold it together, but just couldn't anymore. I think I'll be misty-eyed for some time to come. I seldom doubted too much, but there was a time or two when the struggle to keep the faith and hope going was made a bit difficult. In the end I chose to keep my faith and hope and it finally paid off. It has been a fantastic day. The week since Tues. could have been better, but we had a good man at the helm and he kept it steady and here we are, breathing, laughing, feeling goodness, and finding reason to have and feel true joy. We have honest to goodness leaders and they will start working for us immediately. I lift my glass ( ok, it's only pineapple juice ) to all of you and to our wonderful world and the great U.S. of A.

I heard Tom Petty and figured they approved use of the song.

Biden's walk out music (or run up the ramp music).

Yes and he's not taking it well.

Biden/Harris have a lot to fix.

The world cannot control the pandemic unless the US also works to control it. Look forward to Biden's task force getting to work.

LOCK HIM UP......and shave his head

Ladies, I am so impressed that those of you hoisting glasses were able to do so one-handed! Kudos!

Sorry I've been absent from here--too busy celebrating (and getting stuff done). Next-door neighbor put up a screen on his garage & set up a video projector so we could all watch Harris & Biden from our decks. I passed flutes of champagne over the fence!
The only thing lovelier about tonight is that we may have just seen #46 introduced by #47!
Jackie, Trump will be out on 1/21 (actually, noon on 1/20) and so will Pence. If he's angling to resign so Pence would pardon him, it'd have to be no later than 1/19 or at most the morning of 1/20. My guess is that his lawyers will drag out the SDNY proceedings long enough for dementia to set so far in that he'd be declared unfit to stand trial.

WoooHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
four year long migraine headache with vomiting......GONE!
can't wait till the movie comes out someday, and the future history books too.

wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the 4 years biden turns it over to harris.
-
if rump were to ask pence to pardon him, would he? I mean pence is a man of God...

Reporting in from the UK - my US election WhatsApp group of work friends (we work in a govt-adjacent capacity, and some had worked in formal Labour party election campaign roles) all stayed up to watch the Biden address and more than a few were crying. This has more immediate implications over here for Brexit, but I hope this win also shows places that were following that populist bs model that you can change your mind and return to common decency. Unfortunately its another 4 years under the Tories (but not necessarily Johnson), unless someone can force a General Election. I think the US win tonight may help push that along.
Its great that I will no longer have to answer questions about "why did Trump do that?" And we have been considering moving home in the next year or so, this helps eliminate uneasiness over that wish.
-
artista,
Why do you think Biden would do that?
-
The speech was fantastic!! Loved the fireworks too. I was teary-eyed. We are going to heal as a nation.
LOVED the Der Spiegel covers!! What a difference!
And Kamala is just beginning to kick ass. Little girls of all colors can see the places they can go.

I wish you humor and a twinkle in the eye.
I wish you glory and the strength to bear its burdens.
I wish you sunshine on your path and storms to season your journey.
I wish you peace--in the world in which you live and in the smallest corner
of the heart where truth is kept.
I wish you faith--to help define your living and your life.
More I cannot wish you--except perhaps love--to make all the rest worthwhile. -Robert A. Ward -
Thanks Sandy, I got the dates wrong, the concept right. I imagine most people looked at the concept more anyway. Hoping the idea may be settling in better for Trump that likely anything ( they don't seem highly competent anyway ) he and his lawyers could come up with would change anything. He needs to realize the people who voted Biden and Harris in are MOVING on. We care what Trump does, of course, because he is vindictive and destructive and will be around for awhile but we are moving forward. Not only celebrating ( boy that must have been a major bummer for Trump ) but standing solidly behind 46 and his VP.
Trump seems to have to abide in his delusional alternate universe, and I hope someone around the WH can help him see that what we had in this election was like all others in that we the people spoke. He didn't like it any more than we liked what took place in 2016, but we had to live with 2016 and now we don't anymore. Those who chose him were wrong and we have now been able to get a chance to repair that huge blunder.
Most of the whole world seems happy and relieved. In those places I have read that is the case. I'm sure they hope to be able to realign and reaffirm those things that move pretty much together on.
It is a brand new day. I hope no one allows themselves to be stuck in the past. I The swampy carnage is over.
