Hmmm, I watch MSNBC fairly religiously along with CNN, some local channels and on occasion Fox. I also do Politicus and Axios, and some Cook Report. No intention of changing. I'm fairly comfortable, but sometimes question some of it. Nothing is going to get it ALL right because some of it is not right or wrong, but how you see it. I think news and sources should be challenged. One of the issues is that we tend to get way too much INSTANT news. Hard to define -- so some slow down would likely better everyone.
A whole lot of what comes on my computer screen gets clicked off really fast go algorithms don't go too far here.
As to masks -- well, I'd have been a goner long ago. I use my mask at least twice and wash. If I can't wash I toss it in the dryer for a bit. Still irritated by people who won't wear one. Or as others noted , those who can't seem to bear allowing it to cover their nose. I worry, but ( knocking on wood furiously now ) in our little pocket here while we have had a couple of places turn up a problem they seem to have mainly been congregate living and handled fairly well there with tracing etc. Still, I feel the need not to let myself feel too confident. It only takes one incident. Haven't been to the store ( Walmart mainly ) lately so no idea if we are hoarding here -- for any reason. I hope not but will have to see later.
Ruth, I am sorry to hear about your community member. Like the others, it is sad that good people who choose un-wisely end up paying such a steep price. If we could just respect others, and realize the old adage, rather safe than sorry. My SIL in S. Carolina got her case of covid at church. Not sure what that is about, but you are not safe ANYWHERE. That concept seems to slip through a number of religious cracks. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes on that one. You just can't control every circle you will be in on your way to church.
I have more ideas and thoughts that many would likely just as soon skip, but I need to get to work. See ya'll later.

Well, I see that masks are being required at the priest's prayer service later this week. To quote a country-western song, "It's a little too late to do the right thing now."
I actually use the algorithms to my advantage. If there is something I want to know more about but am too lazy to do the research (good water resistant dog coats for winter, stick-on wallpaper, bathroom remodeling ideas etc. etc.), I just type it in, and Voola! all the information I could ever want on the topic appears before my eyes.

DH and I watched a Trevor Noah piece on Biden's plan to appoint a 6-month bipartisan committee to explore the option of expanding SCOTUS. I understand he's trying to present a cautious demeanor and not freak anyone out, but it was so frustrating to hear.
Dems need to stop being the party of "Let's Make Everyone Happy" and start being the party of "Let's Stop Letting People Die for No Good Reason". They've been pushed away from the table for 12 years. I hope team Biden/Harris are willing to show a lot more teeth once they get in.
-
Saying anything specific is a trap and will just get them boxed in a corner. They have to get elected before they can do anything......and they need to take the Senate as well, or their ideas will be blocked at every turn.
-
Yes, you're right. But my optimism is too bruised to hope for more of the Squad.

First things first!
Luckily the weather is unusually nice out so I can go outside and get my mind off everything for awhile. I feel like it's the day before a surgery. The waiting and worrying is the worst........
-
Thank you for that Ruth! It really helped. As you and Tom Petty said, the waiting really is the hardest part!
Love and a thank you to all of you for being voices of sanity!

One note about disposable masks, when you wear one, break the strings off before you throw them away. Otherwise birds get their legs caught in them.
-
Yes, I agree with you, Ruth. The Democratic candidates must play their cards right. Be just demure enough to get in office, as president and a Senate majority. Then they will barnstorm everything. I know Nancy Pelosi is chomping at the bit to make major and lasting reform. They are going to play every single card Trump played and more. They will expand the Supreme Court. Trump broke all the rules, so the Democrats can say, well didn't he do this, do that? So can we, and btw, while we're at it we're going to...... This is why the Republicans are so desperate to win by any measures. They know they've opened the floodgates for Dems to ride the waves.

Mental health update: I just ate an entire box of expensive chocolates while watching the Weather Channel (in my defense, it was a small box).
-
Had a bagel for lunch, outside. Two older guys were there enjoying the perfect day too. One of them had a Biden Harris hat on the table. As I went by to dump my trash, I told him I liked his hat, and I hoped he wins tomorrow. Big grins on both faces.

Loved the Baby Ruth meme. How cute she is and so judicial!
What 74 year old man, who is not a deranged idiot, sticks his tongue out like an 8 year old. Disgusting behavior for an adult and juvenile to boot. Now if he was describing his own presidency, it is appropriate; otherwise, no!
So ladies, if you don't own pearls, find a lace collar (an old doily will do as well) and wear it with pride tomorrow. Honor her memory and vote the sucker out.
-
A HUGE thank you to RuthBru for letting me know about this group! The timing couldn't be more perfect since I feel like this week is almost more than I can take. I am terrified of this America, terrified for my teen daughter's future (my adult son will be fine...he is scrappy like his dad..plus he is a white male..my daughter was adopted from China). I could go on, but well, I am guessing my feelings are all very much like all of yours so no need to prattle on..........the fear is real.

Loving all the memes and comments today! Am so happy things will be coming to an end fairly soon if all goes well.
Yes, this gal I know is not gonna listen regarding the safety of masks....I'm gonna cut and paste Sandy's remarks and send them to her but fear they will go unheeded....she told me months ago that both of her parents were tested positive for Covid and she was la-de-da about it. I couldn't believe how calm she was --to have both parents ill at the same time. She said they are both obese and her mom has diabetes...... She said she didn't believe the tests were right. Neither parent was affected much- which is pretty amazing. She just shrugged it off and continues with this "casual" use of her mask...now she's back to work full-time......
My other acquaintance who voted for T in 2016 and is gonna again just wrote that she doesn't care now WHO wins. I've pulled away from her a bit. Her claim not to care if it's DT or JB---I don't believe it. She, who showers after every trip outside her condo, flosses twice a day, is so pro-her-own-health her skin is screaming from being scrubbed--voted for a man who TRUMPETS his disdain for doctors and scientists and watches the citizens who voted for him sicken and die.
How can I be REAL friends with someone like this?
I'm so embarrassed at that "I think we should all vote using our SS numbers etc..." It felt so good when I wrote it--but how could I have forgotten that Russia hacked our elections in 2016? Duh. Thanks, Sandy, for setting me straight.
Am on-edge along with everyone else but happy that a judge in Clark County, Nevada, said "Heck no" to Trump and Co regarding voting there....Thank God for sane judges!
I don't own pearls or a lace collar but will be applauding those of you who will honor RBG tomorrow by donning them and will toast you with a Kit Kat bar!
-
Yet another frightening sight--businesses boarding up pre election " just in case". Guess the plywood economy is doing well!! But what a shamefu/embarrassing action for our country in relation to what should be a peaceful process as people exercise their right to vote. I turned in my mail in ballot and voted in person during early voting due to all the shenanigans, rumored and actual. Was not convinced a mail in ballot would make it to the elections office.😣

Andy Borowitz has Susan Collins on the brain.......funnily so!
-
Welcome, cm2020!
Love the Susan Collins.....so true!
-
Sandy, I sent your words about mask safety to my friend...(I know, I know--am sure she thinks Fauci is full of shite as do most Trump folks......now DT is saying he will fire Fauci after election.....and he has his crowds shouting "Fire Fauci!" like total 100% idiots.....these people are suicidal!!):
Here's her response--wondered what your take is on this--
"Well...in January when wearing a mask at the urgent care, my pulse ox was 89%. So, different people react differently it seems. Tell het to look up the paper by Dr. Fauci pertaining to what he discovered when studying the documentation from the Spanish flu...he said that the unmasked buried the masked due to bacterial pneumonia from mask wearing..."
-
Yeah. And it was 1918 before antibiotics.
-
Trill - Perhaps your friend's pulse ox would be low without the mask? Does she think doctors and nurses are superhuman to survive wearing masks for hours in operating rooms? Wear a clean mask every time. The only issue I've had is foggy glasses. Masks with nose pieces fixed that. I truly can't believe he has supporters. He's been killing people.
