    Morning Chickies!!!

Friday at last! I had BIG plans for Foodie Friday....all dashed to hell via my Cavecub's Cavechick's cave flood (boy...was that a mouthful!)….. which loosely translates into my DS's girlfriend had an apartment flood. The flood was the very last thing I needed right before starting a new culinary project so I packed it in and pouted :))) Meh, I got a nice dinner out and a great idea for a fun post idea from it all! On to ya'll…..

Jade - Can I ask why you don't use oils to cook?

Vampriella!!!!!!!!!! - OMG you gorgeous Cave Chick!! I can see right through the halloween makeup that you are one hot cave chickee for sure!! LOVE the pic....I just knew you'd be one of those mums that dress up with the kids! You guys rock...kids look cool....and growing up fast!! Finding yourself....I had another thought on that, might be helpful (might not). Too long for here, we can gab when it's a non-work day or you, just let me know when you're up for it! Lasagna.....you could use thinly sliced white or sweet potato for noodles, which I'm sure would be good, but more like an Italian shepherds pie. I have heard of a recipe for 'pasta', but think it wouldn't stand up to more than sauce being dumped on it....have to run it through the test kitchen first...and find the recipe again...I'll send it your way when I do.

Thank y'all for the well wishes for my son....he is fine, the staples are holding so far and his wounds look on the mend this morning!! Stay tuned for a future episode of 'Egads, medical woman'...…….'cause guess who has to take the staples out?

    **SCREAM***

dear lord, when will it ever end????? ;))))))

A few reasons, one a fear monger if doctor was quite rude in scolding me to stop using oils cause he thought it was bad for my health, my fear monger if mother who created an extreme fear of fire hazards for me and would say "you can't cook well , your going to end up burning the house down!"but mostly it's because cooking with most oils make me feel queasy. Don't know why. It started after the acid reflux inability to eat for months thing.

Jade, using veg or corn oil in the past?

PS...your doc was DEAD WRONG. More on that after you answer my question above :)

Egads - you are too kind to say such nice things....or you're sucking up for something. 🤪 (Psst that's not my hair either). You and your son have had quite the week! Hope all is good now and you have a reasonably quiet weekend!

CT scan done and the waiting begins again. Fingers crossed the results are in by the time I have my doctors appointment on Tuesday!

JKL - your granddaughter sounds too cute! The only place the twins have got candy is from family. My husband likes to taxi them around all over the country to see their grandparents. I remember the first year we took them out, DH had taken a chocolate barfrom their little containers and it had bite marks in it. Little buggers were trying to eat the candy through the wrappers! Good ole days.

I am going to assume that too many carbs and dairy cause bloating... or it's that wonderful Tamoxifen we all love so much! Two weeks down and now it's time to focus on eating less carbs, at least tracking them for a few days.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Oh Egads, so sorry to hear about your son but glad he’s on the mend. Got queasy at the thought of having to take out the staples. Will your cavedude do it? I got queasy when my DDs got their ears pierced and I would have to put their earrings back in after cleanings. 🤭🤢

Vamp, hope you get a good report. Keeping fingers crossed.

My kids use to spell their names out on the floor with their Halloween candy. 🙄

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Tried all kinds actually trying to find that magic one i that didn't cause a reaction veggie, canola, corn, coconut, olive,peanut...

Still queasy, to varying degrees for each but still enough to turn me off using it.

Junie - Oh I feel your pain, I don't know how many times I have hit the wrong button and lost my post! How are you feeling?

OK CAVE FOLK I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS ON.....GREEN PRODUCTS. A few years I was told about Melaleuca and how safe it was for my family, I believed the hype and signed up. Until now I really didn't question if it were true, I liked the product, it worked pretty darn good. Lately I have been questioning on just how safe they are, I looked at the ingredient list on the laundry and it was very reserved, I looked online and there are a lot of ingredients that make no sense to me. I am thinking of quitting Melaleuca and replacing with something better. Anyone know anything about Melaleuca or thoughts on this?

As for Vegas - I did my best, but we ate out Saturday (date night with friends) and Sunday (not my decision, my mil wanted to treat us so I didn't get a choice in where either). Other than that I have been staying the course, just need to start tracking my carbs for a few days to see where I am on that front, hoping to start that today.

Good Morning Cave Chicks!! Oh yes, Monday has arrived……

    image

Vampriella – LOL, why yes, I was buttering you up….I want your pie crust recipe! :)))) I'm thinking you're a blue eyed blondie under that cool/funky dark wig? No amount of makeup is hiding your bee-u-ti-ful mug, and I mean that! Do I detect a slight cleft in your chin? Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for Tuesday's scan results….best be keeping us posted darling!::) Melaleuca......doing homework on that now...will post back! Bloating…….1 gram of carbs holds 4 grams of water, so yesiree, too many carbs can add water weight and bloat us up like a toad! Tamoxifen….lowers estrogen = estrogen aids cells in reducing fat retention = cells hanging on tight to fat = harder to lose weight (for many, not all). This is one of the reasons post and peri-menopausal women start to 'barrel' out around the tummy and thighs. Keep carbs in the paleo weight loss zone and you should be golden.

    Lecture over :))))))

Kathindc – LOL my Cavedude put a maniacal look on his face & rubbed his hands together when my son came home from the hospital with the stapler removal tool. That's when my son announced it would be a Mom DIY job. :)))))))Honestly, after all that 'I am woman hear me roar' talk last week I'm kinda sorta stuck. I am strong, I am invincible, I am scared poopless!!! :)))))) Two days down to removal….I'll post….no pics LOL! That is too cute spelling the names out with candy….can you imagine how much candy the kids in India would need?? They'd be toothless within a week! :))))))

Jade – Well that sucks! Healthy oils make stuff taste so much better, not to mention the benefits. …but alas if your tummy says no it's best to avoid as you are. Food for thought….I had a friend that was horrifically abused as a child…..left a lot of physical and emotional scarring. To this day she can't drink plain water…..chokes and gets nauseous. She's not allergic to water (obviously), but she did mention how her 5 year old head would be held under water in the bathtub on occasion by her evil and thankfully dead mother. Once she realized the connection she had an easier time with water….albeit not perfect. Just a thought after reading your last post. Hugs!!

JunieBee – OMG that is SO frustrating!!! I've lost a few looooong posts (like most of mine are lol) and wanted to slam my head onto the table :)))) You could always post in point form, but no worries we'll be looking forward to an update…..been thinking of you and the elbow deal.Post back when you can darlin', and as always hugs & pets to the Kirbster!!

Okey Dokey, down to business…..Vegas, no. Hell, yes. Remember the personal challenge I posted last week?….the one where I was going to get my spices in order by December 1? Well it's turned into a home reno project. We have an 8 X 14' bedroom in our basement. Since we movedin 5 years ago it's become a makeshift store room for anything the Cavedude doesn't know what to do with….so yeah, basically it looks like a nuclear blast zone and hence why we call it Area 51 :)))) No longer! It's been emptied and my spice organization challenge has now turned to a diy pantry….I'll post when complete. In that room is a small upright freezer….which we decided to defrost on Friday night….what a yucky job, but done. Whew.

Freezer cleaned & sanitized by Saturday morning and I figured we deserved a reward in the form of Ksuze's addiction java. I scuttled up the stairs to make us a coupla' cups, reached into the fridge for the cream and BAM…just like that, I caught a bad case of Inna (godda davida)'s Refrigerator Flu. I could have started seedlings in my fridge it was so warm….and smelly….and full of turning food (dayum that happens fast). We figure it had conked out from late Friday night on. Funny thing was, the freezer portion (thank god!) was still working. We'd just been through nasty cleaning and now entered the 'what the *beep* is wrong with the fridge' zone. Thankful its fridge cold here, we emptied the salvageable food into coolers on our back deck.

Fast forward to Sunday and off my Cavedude went to buy a small fridge….over my protests of "shouldn't we investigate further?" Once my man was gone I did what any self respecting Helen Reddy fan would do….educate myself….via YouTube :)))))). After all, you can become a licensed surgeon by YouTube can't you? :)))

By the time Mr. Man returned I had the internal freezer and fridge panels off……cheerfully clearing ice blockage and something highly toxic smelling from the drain tube. Oh, and I had the back panel off and the condenser coils clean n' shinin'.Cavedude'smouth dropped into an open cavern we could have stored food in…..then said 'what the *beep*!?!?!? Oh silly boy….all afraid I had screwed an already screwed fridge.Tinkering done, I used his tester thingy to make sure the evaporator fan had power. At that point Mr. Doubting Thomas started to paw into the DIY fix….I told him to back off with my screw driver….

    image

    *

I put the fridge back together, plugged in and oh yeahhhhhhh baby, it's still working fine!! Being the demure and humble gal that I am I proceeded to….

    *

    image

    *

My Cavedude joined in the happy dance, thrilled we don't have to fork out for another full size fridge…..high 5'd me and said "Baby, you da man!!" to which I replied…."oooooh no, I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!!" :)))))

It might have taken up the weekend, but it's just another step toward staple removal!! Hoping your day is splendiferous and full of roars!!

No weight loss in the last 3 weeks, with a very low vegetable/fruit intake, no roots, no sugar, no grain beyond a couple of thin crackers and part of a small biscuit, scant dairy. It's depressing.

Ksuze - I imagine so! I take it you're leaning on protein & fat? Hang in, I've gone longer between dips on the scale....even though I was squeaky clean....just part of the process I figure. Frustrating yes, but give it time, your eating habits will win in the end!

Egads, you rock!!! (I am mightily impressed with your DIY skills.)

If you can fix a fridge, you can remove a few staples! Maybe this will help - my gyn used staples on my hysterectomy incision 25+ years ago. When the time came to send me home, I was very nervous about the idea of someone approaching that part of my body armed with a staple remover. Despite my trepidation, it was pain free & over quickly (though the staples did leave some strange temporary scars). You've got this! Think of it as one more skill to add to your resume!

Ksuze, keep up the good eating habits. I'll bet that you get on the scale one morning & see a lower number. In the meantime, maybe you're losing inches instead of pounds (& isn't that better?).

Vamp, your boys are adorable! I especially loved the two-headed pic - perfect for Halloween! How are you doing?

Hope everyone has a super week. Sending hugs from WET Virginia.

Awe thanks JKL. I am doing pretty good. How's that cough, gone yet?

Egads - the next time something goes onthe fritz in this house I am calling you! Where were you when my fridge and washer died, could have used your skills... although I did get a bigger fridge out of the deal so maybe best not to have fixed it. Haha

Ksuze, sounds like a plateau, but should resolve soon. You have done amazingly these past few months and it shows with the pounds you have lost already.

JKL & Vamp - Thank you for your praise, but reserve your judgements yet....I think the fridge may be putzing out again...never fear, I’m off to pick up and install a new thermostat sensor switch and defrost timer unit tomorrow a.m. I’m almost positive that’s where the prob lies as all the other possibilities have been ruled out with thorough diagnostic tests....and now know the ‘thingy’ I referred to earlier is a multimeter:)))). Neat gadget, I’ve been poking appliances all day :))))) I think the repairs are worth the $50 in parts and will update...and promise to make the repairs wearing ‘plumbers butt’ pants :))))))

JKL, good lord they stapled you there?!???? In your shoes I’d still have the staples in 25+ years later!! Glad removal is painless...after reading your reply I called my cavecub and gave him the good news. He was relieved...and then asked “who is JKL?” :))))

KSuze - I read somewhere that cutting caffeine completely can break a plateau...not a great thought first thing in the a.m. though. I’ve personally found carb re-loading to be an effective plateau breaker. I’ll add a baked potato or other starchy veg/fruit to 2 meals for a day...might be worth a shot. You’ve lost 25 lbs and no inches?

Vamp - The Costco coconut milk we texted about is def an Asian import....and some nasty schhhtuff. Love the pic of Stella on your profile...give her a squeeze for me please!

Everyone- Had a WONDERFUL Gordon Ramsay tamarind shrimp dish with spicy stir fried cauliflower veg rice and bok choy tonight for din-din...easy peasy too! Hit me up if you want the recipe...

I don't know if your talking about my fear of fire or my reaction to oils.

No nothing like that, she was in a house fire when she was young got out in Athens by the fire but it put a fear in her she passed on to already neurotic me. I'm a little OCD about it actually I make sure everything isturned off and will unplug anything I consider higher risk of causing a fire if I'm going to be gone more the an hour.

As for oils I get sick with naturally made peanut butters so I think it's just the oil itself, and a stomach that went really iffy after it started.

Fingers crossed that the fridge is a quick fix and I'm way impressed. any fridge I go near with a screwdriver would stay in pieces.

    Best wishes.

Egads that looks so good and your post has reminded me to go check him out on youtube! That photo is actually Scrappy my first dog, she was a great dog, but I will give Stella a hug when she dries off....if she ever dries off! Soooo much rain and she refuses to use the dog house. I love this picture of the cat and dog, really hard to get a picture of them together as soon as they hear a noise they move! These two sleep together quite a bit, I think some days Stella wants Hoover to just pi$$ off. haha

Jade - no wonder peanut oil hurts your tummy...peanuts are a legume, not a nut, so FULL of inflammatory phyptic acid. Tells me you should be avoiding legumes of any sort like the plague. Effects me the same as you. Have you tried avocado oil? Pretty harmless and really good for you. Other than that you could try animal fats...nothing inflammatory in them....or you could just avoid as you have been to keep your tummy in line. As for the Mum-oil connection I’ll PM you when life settles down here....just a ponder kinda’ thing, if you’re ok with that :)

Vamp - be sure to check out his short rib vid...you can use cheapo shank or ox tail (or any cheap cut with a bone)...it’s awesome and easy! Awww that pic of Scrappy and Hoover is too cute! Wish I could sleep like that! :)) Poor Stella, I feel her ‘damp’ pain. Just got back in and am soaked...which leads us into....

TWO CENT TUESDAY.....Water, water, everywhere...makes my heart sink!!

As JKL & Vamp noted earlier, the wet weather has been unrelenting lately, and to add to that....3 weeks of grey skies even when it’s not raining. Makes Egads a dull Cave Chick! The sun has peeked out for about 13.8 minutes over the last 21 daysin Hell-ifax, ok, maybe 13.9 minutes to be generous. The high winds are quickly stripping the fall leaves off the trees leaving that look of pergatory behind. Ugggggg. I’m damp enough to start sprouting moss on exposed body parts, always chilled, and have a permanent Little Orphan Annie hairdo. I’ve tried to look on the bright side but am failing fast...I hate this weather...I want sun...like now!!

That would be my 2 cents, and I’m sorry for the negativity....hard to fire the brain up when 4 gallons of water is constantly drumming on my skull!! Please Mr. Weather, I’ve been a good girl...throw me a frickin’ bone! ;)))))

I'll try the carb strategy if this goes another week. Alas, it's been 17, not 25 pounds. I've gone down about half a size, but no change in the last 3 weeks, which I thought was what JKL was asking about.

My fridge fix is holding. I wish the same for you!

KSuze - aim for 75-85 carbs in one day (easy lol) from veg, fruit or compliant starchy flour baked good, not grain, wheat or legume. Go back to normal diet. Weigh 2 - 3 days later, any sooner and you’ll be carrying water weight from the carbs. Inches...average is 7-10 lb weight loss for one inch. For me it’s dead on 10 lbs per inch (figures). Hang in, a half size is nothing to sneeze at! I was down about the same at the 17 lb loss mark...seems to take forever but it will come. I’m down 6 sizes but it’s been a loooong bumpy road. Tamoxifen isn’t helping the travel either!! You got this !!

What fridge fix did you do? My new part is in, crossing fingers here it goes as well as yours....kudos on your fix!! :))

Egads, I totally understand how you feel, neighbours down the road can rowboat in their yard. hahaha We need this to dry up, fil still has beans to get off. I need natural vitamin D!

Doctors appointment update - Possible pinch nerve in neck causing the upper back and neck pain that is now from the time I wake up till I go to bed, good news is with the anemia I still sleep fine. hahaha She prescribed something to help, but said on my way out that she didn't think it would work due to the low dose, but wanted to start me low. MRI for the spinal cord pain - likely Tamoxifen induced, but as you very well know BC puts you in the more tests realm, so MRI here I come. Follow up in a month. CT results not in, will have to wait till I see my RO middle of the month.

    A little MRI humor :)

    Hopefully this doesn't happen.

Top o' the mornin' Cave Peeps!

All hail part replacement! My refrigerator is still operating smoothly after replacing the thermostat timer and thermostat sensor switch….whewwwwwww!! I'm having my doubts about the evaporator fan, so I'm picking one up today to keep on hand. I couldn't believe how easy the fixes were.......and how empowered getting' er' done makes one feel *ROAR* :))))) New fridge = $900 to 5 million dollars. Fix = $ 130 total with new fan. Take that Maytag Man!! :)))) Ok, so on to business….

Vampriella – OH EM GEE did I roar laughing at your vid! "Quitting sugar unlocks the eighth window to the soul and grows a third eye that only sees truth"& "I don't even listen to Shug Knight any more" LOLOLOLOL!!! Awesome video that Y'all need to watch. A hiliarious but very informative take on sugar…….thanks & kudos for posting darlin!!! Licorice and Twizzlers…..crazy eh? Flour, sugar, chemicals….scary sccchtuff eh? I'm bent on making a batch of paleo licorice in the test kitchen and will post back. I'm thinking the gummies will be a better bet though…might do both. Stay tuned :)))))

Hump day....y'all know what that means......

WORKOUT WEDNESDAY - You're so Pushy!!!

Dedicated to our illustrious Vamp….who has been using her kitchen counter for more than food prep!

Push ups. Yuck right? Good reason why push ups are so yucky…..they're hard!! Take heart, they don't have to be!! The motion of pushing (and pulling) should be a staple part of a good exercise routine….along with squats & lunges. Pushing body weight from an incline is strength training that builds the upper body (chest, biceps, triceps, bat-wing remover). When thinking of push ups, most of us drop to the ground and can pull off maybe 1….2 or 3 if you're lucky?

The following vids demonstrate exactly how you should SLOWLY BUILD UP to a classic push up….and it's variations. All you need to start is a wall and patience. Survivor Cave Chicks have special concerns during upper body exercise…specifically lymphodema. Going slow and steady with few reps should keep this in check. As always, stop and gauge your upper body/arm reaction.

Any sign of LE and quit. Period. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to incorporate push ups into your workout lightly, and get approval from your LE specialist or medical team before commencing. EG: It took THREE YEARS and a lot of sweat before I got to the ground. ...this ain't no race :)))

Beginners.....do these until it's easy peasy….then move on to the next....

    *

Feeling stronger and confident....move on into your kitchen....

    *

How low can ya' go? Next step.....

    *

Get down....get back up again! The classic & plank style push up.....

    *

You may never get to the ground, and that is FINE. Pushing body weight off a wall is still a push up!! Work it, but work it smart!! More info available, just hit me up!

So go get pushy and have a splendiferous day Chickies!

Egads - I certainly like doing those pushups vs the ones on the floor and let me tell you I can feel the burn so it's working!

CBD Oil - well I had some "given" to me when I got diagnosed and being a friend of mine I trusted her and bought a bottle from her. The first time I was so stoned it was awful my whole body was vibrating, took a lot less the next time at bed time and slept great. The point was to help me sleep through my diagnosis, but I honestly don't think I need help in the sleep department. lol. So I haven't taken any in a really long time and yesterday the pain was so bad I thought I would give it a try. I only took a teeny tiny bit and yup made me stoned, did nothing for the pain and even worse I got the munchies, I guarantee I gained a pound from all the food I consumed. lololol Needless to say I will not be using it again.

About an hour after taking the CBD oil:

    and then the munchies hit:

I wonder if it's got THC in it, because CBD itself isn't psychoactive. I just read a study saying that it takes a week of ingested CBD to affect pain. It may have been on Medscape, and I didn't read it closely. I use a topical CBD-only cream that is helpful in my port scar area but don't use consumables (I live in a legal marijuana state, so a lot of products are available).

Warning....long post (lol), make sure to visit the bathroom before attempting to read....you'll see why....:))

    **

TUTORIAL THURSDAY!!! - It's raining on my parade pants!

To Pee or Not to Pee, there's no question, I gotta pee!

It's a often a hot topic of discussion at my weekly coffee group….we wake up one day and no longer seem to be able to hold back escaping urine from our bladders. If we laugh, sneeze, cough or lift something, we suddenly, and quite annoyingly, pee our pants a little. Nothing like doing the pee-pee dance in the grocery store freezer section the second cold air hits the body…..while your eyes quickly scan for the nearest restroom. Never one around. Not making it, you do the walk of shame back out to the parking lot...convinced people are pointing and staring. Thank god for hoodies, tying them around the waist is a lifesaver! Several women I know wear a daily panty liner as a precaution….and a few are regular Depends wearers. Ugggg. Lugging a purse around is bad enough.....

    image

Childbirth, aging, and declining hormones seem to be the general consensus…..which is true, as all these factors are causes of urinary incontinence…..very true in the case of hormone blockers, which throw fire at an already burning building. Base fact, it's damned annoying, uncomfortable and in some cases at crisis levels that may require surgical intervention.

There are a few types of this annoying problem……

Stress Incontinence - Weak pelvic floor muscles that support and enable bladder function letting go when laughing/coughing/jumping/straining. Muscles so slack as not to contain the pressure….pop goes the weasel! The leaks are impossible to stop.....

Urgency Incontinence - . Oh you can control your bladder alright, but you you're peeing 54 times a day. To quote one of my favorite movie lines "She must have a bladder the size of a peanut!":))))) (Paper Moon, Tatum O'Neal, 1973) Urgency incontinence wakes us up during the night and has all the bathroom locations at the mall burned into our memory. Urgency incontinence, over time, can degrade to the point of needing surgical intervention. No thanks!!

Prostate Incontinence – Story for another day, but rooted in many of the same causes we ladies 'enjoy'.

So what is going on here? Why does this happen?

Pelvic Floor Muscle Dysfunction. "The pelvic floor acts as a taut, supple sling of muscle and connective tissue that supports the pelvis including organs, joints, sex organs, bladders, bowels, and various sphincters. We use it to control our urination, our bowel movements, even our sexual functions. It's very important." It gets weak and tight and pulls the sacrum inward (the tail gets pulled toward the front of the body), interfering with urination and urinary control." Weakening factors are childbirth, aging and most importantly, lack of movement. Being born female increases the risk of developing incontinence.

Besides wetting your pants after laughing, there are other signals we can look for….

Lack of spine curvature……butt pulling toward the front of your body

Lack of muscles in legs (or arms)…..if you have no muscle tone in your legs it's a no brainer that your pelvis muscles won't be up to snuff either.

"One of the strongest predictors of urinary incontinence is physical frailty. The more frail—weak, fragile, prone to falling, unable to handle stairs, unsteady on one's feet—the man or woman, the more likely they are to suffer from urinary incontinence. This mostly comes down to muscle atrophy; the frail tend to have low muscle mass all over, including the pelvic floor"

SO WHAT'S A LEAKY CHICK TO DO??

Kegal exercises***…..every day, as much as possible……standing in lines, sitting at a desk, while walking…..yelling at the kids. Do them, unless you like urine soaked pants. Don't just stop there! Kegals are great but are NOT enough to prevent or reverse incontinence!!

***There is a theory that kegels by themselves make the problem worse by creating a tight but ultimately weakened pelvic floor muscle that pulls the sacrum further inward.

    Soooo…..

Squeeze your butt. Yes….while walking squeeze your cheeks with every step and every kegal.

Squats!! Do them often! Squats are THE BEST pelvic floor muscle stengthener…..don't forget to squeeze your glutes and kegal as you come up.

Try em' today….(hit me up if you want further vids or instructions on these exercises)

    Beginners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsPb5l5vEjY

    Intermediate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbOPpWi4L8s

Glute bridges, hip thrusts, deadlifts, lunges, resistance band glute kickbacks…..are all great for prevention or reversal of a leaking bladder.

    Personal testimonial

I started springing leaks somewhere in my late 30s to early 40s. Constantly. Terribly. Pantylinerville. After incorporating squats into every workout the problem COMPLETELY REVERSED…I mean gone! It hasn't returned and I ain't inviting it back!! I cannot recommend the exercises enough....it simply works!!

So get squeezing those pelvic floor and glute muscles….add in some squats and wave bye bye to Ms. Soggy Pants and build up pelvic floor muscles you can bounce a quarter off! :)))) Btw….this works for Cavedudes too…did for mine :)
