Hi all, I've got febrile neutropnia from the navelbine,my oncologist says not to be worried because it means that the chemo is just working too well, they have given me 2 bone marrow strengthening injections in my tummy, Filigastril or something like that, I keep forgetting what it's called, thanks chemo brain, and she is going to adjust the dosage and arrange for me to have the injection as well next time. Its 4.45 am Friday so I'm not sure yet if I'll be going home today, I sure hope so, I'd rather be at home for the weekend. Mae, so glad to hear your voice is making a comeback, Moth, pocket duty, and of course, best wishes and healing vibes for everyone else 💖.

Kittykat here’s hoping home for you and everything under control.
I’m very fortunate in that all the hospitals where scans are done and my cancer centre ( Beatson) are within a half hour drive of home so I can nip home if there’s time to be be killed. I forget sometimes how hard it must be for those living in a huge country!Feeling much better today after a nauseous day yesterday...pretty sure that was a combo of day 5 capecitabine for the first ever cycle and day 2 COVID jag!
-
Kittykat- Hope you get to come home today. Hugs from here.
-
Alright my northeast and midwest friends, get ready for a laugh. We in Houston are currently bracing for the coldest weather in February in almost 70 years! I laugh because it’s not really THAT cold but I won’t be leaving the house much either.
-
Candy, nope, not going home until Monday, my neutrophils are still too low. ☹. Oh well better safe than sorry.
-
Mae - I’ll trade you. This is an extended arctic freeze. Never been in anything like it, despite living in the northern part of Michigan’s lower peninsula for 13 years. Not fun taking dogs out to potty in the morning. My bones hurt more from the time I get out of bed until I return. I’m sure there are others with worse numbers but these are mine and I don’t like them
-
Kittykat- How do you feel? Nausea? Etc. Sorry you will be spending the weekend in the hospital. Can you have visitors?
Mae and Goldens-- Cold snap here. This weekend a High of 13 degrees with a 10mph wind. And Monday with a chance of "heavy snow". Not saying how much we will get yet, too early to tell what track the storm will take. Looks like not over 32 degrees until NEXT Saturday (over a week). But I would rather have this than summer. That is how much I hate summer.

Hello to all,
Just a quick post to say hi to all. I am getting my second Covid "jab," as Karen would say, this afternoon and hope it's non eventful. My DH had his second on Wednesday and he had no real reaction but a small headache yesterday, and he's the one who usually has some sort of reaction to vaccinations.
Also had my second keytruda infusion on Tuesday. Seemed to go well -- but I have no idea if it's working on the cancer or not. Scans are a ways off. I go again in 3 weeks, when I'll be moving to every six weeks. Fingers crossed that it's working.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
-
BevJen, I'm sure your team explained it but also want to remind that immunotherapy can have slower response than cbemo. First scans might be blah. I think it wasn't till my 16 week scan that we saw big improvement with the tecentriq. So just to mentally prep for possibly longer ambiguity
-
Last night we got takeout from a new to us restaurant which has a whole vegan menu and they were offering free delivery. It was a nice change and lots of food so plenty for at least lunch today.
I've been not sleeping as well as normal lately though I haven't changed my routines much. Feels like my dreams are not happy and I wake early. Maybe time to journal. But I really don't want to leave journals behind so I've been resisting it lol . I need a self deleting journal
-
Moth go into your notes/ memo and write and then delete. What I do, I purge everything down on paper every good and horrible thought, then I take it out side and burn it for the fates to read.
-
Candy, I actually feel OK, my back is hurting from being cooped up in this bed, so I've been walking laps of my room, I can have visitors, my daughter was here today, no Finn though, kids are little germ factories unfortunately, I'm going to go and stay with them next week for an overnight stay after my bloods are better.
-
Moth - thinking of you on your one year cancerversary. We are in similar situations with TN in lungs, and I think of you and your path so far as an inspiration. Thinking of you with your scans
Kittykat - I hope you're feeling better, FN is no fun
at least at the moment you're saved from our artic temperatures in Aus (I'm originally a Canberra person but living in the UK now)
I've had one of those days of feeling down and unable to think outside the 'cancer' box - I'm 3 days after my latest gem/carbo infusion and I always get in a funk when suffering through the tiredness and nausea. Trying to distract myself with mindless TV and chocolate
hugs to all

Goldens, I won’t be trading places, it’s way too cold up there.
Went grocery shopping today for valentines dinner, I love an excuse for a fancy meal but we don’t celebrate with gifts or flowers. Early on we made a deal that we treat everyday like Valentine’s Day and eliminate the societal obligation. It’s 36 degrees, so I had a sweater and coat on, DH wore shorts and a tank top, lol.
Hello to all, I hope you’re staying warm and feeling ok mentally and physically.
-
In a much better place today and I think I am climbing out of the hole. Just got off a two hour phone call with a good friend, chatting about all sorts of stuff. And we've ordered a pizza and turned on the gas fireplace as its cold. Definitely better than a few days ago.
Mae - I am making a vegan lasagna and a yellow cake for valentines, mostly to use up the chocolate frosting I made for partner's birthday (and froze)... in July. I may pick up some flowers tomorrow when I go to the next town over to mail some stuff, but lilies, not roses.
Take care everyone!
-
Just as I was griping about vaccine, now my state is getting many more doses this week that are going directly to pharmacies. Yeah!
BevJen, glad your getting the 2nd shot and hope you have no adverse reaction. Good to read your 2nd infusion went well. All my fingers are crossed for good results for you.
Moth, congratulations on another year gained.
Hello and hugs to all.
-
Sondra, your dinner sounds delicious. I’m making a French recipe I found 20 years ago but only make once a year usually. It’s stuffed chicken (stuffed with a seasoned butter ball and Swiss cheese) with Sherry sauce, Brussels sprouts and creamy kale on the side. Dessert will be strawberry shortcake.
Lazy weekend otherwise.
-
BevJen- Woohoo on your 2nd Covid shot. Hope you feel ok after. I get mine in a couple of weeks.
Moth- Sorry you are having not so happy dreams. I dream a lot about my old work, the co-workers, etc. Kind of feel sad when I wake up. I do not journal, never have. Even as a child I never had a diary. I kind of want to journal now, but I too do not want to leave them behind.
Kittykat- Well a long weekend for ya stuck in the hospital. Sorry. There are not a lot of Covid in your area though, right? Hope not. Rest and heal.
Mae and Sondra- No Valentines celebrations for me. But nothing with Covid, Valentines Day is just a Holiday that doesn't apply to me. No sweetheart. Hope you enjoy it though.
Woohoo Bliss. Hope you have success making your Covid vaccine appointment.
My weekend plans are not much. Supposed to be cold. Forecasted wind chill at 11 below Saturday morning and worse on Sunday. Inside with TV and books. I will be checking in here a lot.
Where is Mel, Mara?
-
Candy, we are so fortunate here in my state to not have any in the community, no valentine for me either even if I wasn't in hospital.
Phet, glad that your mum was able to get to be with you even if it's not exactly what you planned, it will be lovely for you to have her with you.
Good to read that some of you are getting your covid shots, it's not so urgent for us down here but they are saying they will start within 2 weeks.
-
Kittykat- That is so interesting about Covid and Australia. I do not keep up with the number of cases worldwide. I just watch the news on the U.S. You are in summer now, right? But even last summer in the U.S. we still had cases-- even in my local area. Just not as much as in the winter months. I have been in isolation since LAST March. And in the summer I wore masks when out to the doctors, etc-- things I had to do. What is Australia doing that we can learn from???!!!! You are probably getting ready for bedtime---so weird with the time change--- 8am here and just starting my Saturday.
-
Candy, the first thing we did very early on was close the boarders to international travellers, then we mandated mask wearing, closed all non essential business, huge fines for non compliance. Stopped all travel between states unless for compassionate reasons. Even one community case will cause a local shutdown to allow contract tracers to isolate all who came in contact with that person and quarantine for 14 days, its a combination of many things, we are happy for a week's inconvenience for the freedom it gives us. Our got was quite generous with those that lost there jobs as well, unemployment benefits were increased by around $200 a fortnight and a lot of businesses were given money to keep paying their workers while they had to close along with a moratorium on evictions and rent increases. It's been hard for some, people trying to get back from overseas have had it tough.
-
Kittykat- I wish the U.S. was as smart as your Government. I have known a lot of people just in my small town of 15,000 that has gotten Covid and survived. And I know some in my town, that I have known my whole life, that died of Covid. And that is just in my small town. Mask wearing has always been a hot button issue. I have family that does not wear them. They think they are silly, will not help, uncomfortable, infringing on their rights, hoax, etc. I went into a business (veterinarian for my cat) back in August and the staff wasn't wearing masks. I told them I was a cancer patient and could they please put on a mask. They got upset and said their rights are being infringed on. And they refused to wear a mask around me. And that is a business. No wonder our cases are out of control here. And the protesting last year--crowds without distancing or masks. And people still going to restaurants, even though restaurants told to close they defied the mandates and stayed open and customers still came.
I wish I could come live there. At least I could get out and live some before the MBC gets me.
Take care and rest well now, my friend.

Candy, I had a journal for most of my teenage years, primarily because my memory has always been terrible and there were events that I wanted to keep in mind. I’ve read through some of it over the years and sure enough, I had no recollection of most of it. Some parts are really embarrassing and some are just too personal, I’ll be burning them later this year after one more read.
-
I'm here. Just addicted to a show call Wentworth. I can't stop watching it. I'm doing ok. My side still hurts. May have a Lil ole fracture on my thigh side. Certainly does feel pain while doing certain movements and pressure. So I'm a little concerned my scanning and testing is vamping up, so I feel distracted and anxious. I don't feel any different. No weirdness not feeling any different at all. I'm not overally worried, I feel pretty good. But gotta scan. I have the anxiety starting already. Worry about every ache and pain or tummy ache. What torture we go through. Hope all is well. I'm behind for once!! I’ll catch up.
-
Mel, I am behind on it all too. Was busy today between housework and setting up another washing machine. One of my twin tub washers broke on the washing side. I luckily have a second one but decided to pull the 5 gallon bucket and clip on washer and give those a whirl. I quite like them, nice backup to have and only around 100 canadian. Washes things well and I can just dump the bucket in the tub. I was upset about the wash side of the twin tub breaking but it still spins laundry to almost dry so I will store it in a closet I am not using. The one that clamps on the bucket is really good, just have to put fewer things in the bucket.
I did also go grocery shopping and burger run with my older DB and SIL. They gave me a flower and my DB made peanut butter fingers, graham crust with melted chocolate chip spread on with a peanut butter glaze, delicious heaven. He gave me a lot so after today, will be limiting to a bite at a time. It is quite delicious.
-
Mara~sorry about your washer... ours is also on its last leg. A purchase coming for sure. Sounds like a jet plane when its spinning. You made me feel like some caramel and chocolate. I love Dairy Queen’s health bar blizzard. Now I have a sweet tooth. Glad you’re doing ok !
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. -
I honestly don't mind the clip on washer and my 5 gallon bucket. Already got a back up for it and it was only 100 CAD. Does a good job, use the old washer to soak the clothes in fabric softener before rinsing. The spin dryer side still works so I will keep the broken one, not so bothered by it now.
Not doing much today, just pedaling and spending time on the computer. I will take another bite of my brother's peanut butter fingers. Watching the calories today. finally pulled the mini elliptical over and will pedal that throughout the day as not feeling the walk but want to move legs and burn calories at the same time while doing my surveys etc.
Happy Valentine's to you Mel and everyone else as well.
-
just having dinner and watching Wentworth. This show is awesome. Australia did this right!!!
-
Enjoy the show for sure.
