Pixie Dust Challenge complete!! 10k on sat half marathon on sun ( mothers day weekend)
-
you're amazing. You go girl. I am in awe of you. Look at your medals!! Way to go. Keep it up. You're so inspiring!! Many hugs !! ~M~
-
Hi my name is Panthrah and I have a medal addiction. ya know what jacks up you training plans? the u/s dr saying you need another biopsy. and with my track record.. biopsy = lumpectomy .. which means no bouncing/running grrrrrr pesky boobs getting in the way of life. well really my next race isnt til sept ( unless i get twitchy and sign up for something else) but still... grrr
-
I'm sorry that you are facing that again, Panthrah. I hope you don't have to have a lumpectomy again and will be thinking good thoughts for you.
I love the bling as well. I'm itching to be released to run again but not looking forward to having to build back up. I learned a very expensive lesson 2 years ago when I signed up for many (re: lots of race entry fees) races and promptly developed bursitis and then a stress fracture. Last year I could only bring myself to do 1 and it was a week after they called to say I had cancer again. I'm hoping to be released to start running next month and I'm going to sign up for that race again.
-
eeek injuries that sideline races are the pits!!! I have the full in jan ..but they way i even walk down a flight of stairs youd think the race is tomorrow LOL I do not want to be injured before the full ( or any race for that matter) you sign up for those races again and rock them!!

Newbie here (dx 5/11/17) ... and hope this is ok to ask on this thread. Any general sense for how long you were down from running after surgery?? I'm having a bilateral mastectomy on 6/6, with expanders going in. I'm not a fast runner, but my only experiencehas been with these DDs, which certainly won't be an issue soon....
-
there are several ladies who have been there and can give you advice . also if you look up the previous yrs running threads - 2015/2016 ( I know.. lots of posts) it has been discussed a few times. being each person has a different set of concerns.. different pieces of advice have been given. but you most definitely in the right place
welcome
:)

running mama, I had BMX with no recon and was running at ten days post surgery, shortly after the drains came out. But I think the tissue expanders may be the deciding factor in how soon you can run again, not the surgery.

Been a pretty good week. Ran three days so far this week. Which is an improvement since last week, I am feeling pretty good considering. Finally some sun in the northeast. Maybe that's the ticket. Run well ladies. Or in my case jog actually. Running is actually what my mind always is doing. It never shuts off. At least Friday is coming. ~M~

So glad to hear that. I have been almost completely idle. The painter is in and all 3 kids home from uni for the summer so everything is in a complete mess. I had to climb over a small mountain of stuff to even get at my washing powder! Hope to get started again on sat.

Hello! So happy to have found this thread! Just read thru it while sipping my coffee, eating a banana and getting reading to go out for my run today. Will quick introduce myself..46 years old, was diagnosed late April after finding a lump a few wks earlier. My lumpectomy is scheduled for next Wed. I ran XC in Jr high and high school, stopped running for a period of time and started running consistently again when I was 34 years old. I have ran a full marathon, many half marathons and 5k's. I also love to do yoga and HIIT workouts, so was excited to see that article on page 2! But mostly I just LOVE to run!! It's my therapy and ME time! I had planned to run a full in May this spring, but a nagging hamstring/hip issue from last falls half kept me from getting training started in Jan. When I finally had that issue feeling better, I found the lump. I was running very consistently these few years and feeling like in was in the best shape I had been in the past 5yrs. I feel so much anger right now. You are all definitely an inspiration to me! Path..my 13 yr old son started running XC and track the past school yr. About a month before I was diagnosed I had heard about the Disney Light Side and Dark side races. We decided that was going on our Bucket list to run together! We need to decide which one and when! It's more of a priority now then 3 months ago. I want to run as much as I can thru these next few months and still have hopes of running another full sometime soon, after the Disney races! I hope everyone has great runs, workouts and rest days today!
-
last week was better a run week for me. This week i am tired out. Welcome to the thread. I was diagnosed at age 45 and in my opinion is way too young. I decided also not to stop running. Even though it's a lot harder since the chemo. I hope you find strength and encouragement like I have here. Run, run, run!!!! ~M~
-
Micmel - what an inspiration you are!

I just received the call from my doctor that I have IDC; I go to discuss the pathology reports and next steps tomorrow morning.
I'm an avid runner who wants to continue running through treatment. Since my first half in 2012, I've done about 30 more halfs and two fulls.
My most recent race was a 5K for Cancer Survivors Day, two days after my biopsy last week.
I wish I didn't have to be here, but since I am, I look forward to participating in the discussions.
-
night crawler, so sorry you have to deal with this. I won't lie, chemo can really compromise your running for awhile, but it's important to stay with it, for many reasons. It helps in dealing with side effects, keeps your heart strong (and some chemo drugs are hard on the heart) and can keep you sane when you feel absolutely overwhelmed. I had a month during AC chemo when I couldn't run at all, but am finding it quite doable during Taxol and Herceptin. I've lost a lot of fitness since starting treatment, but when it's over, at least I won't be starting again from scratch. I did three marathons last year, and haven't ruled out doing more in the future.
-
I've been walking a lot since I was given the green light for that but am itching to run again. Appt with the PS on Friday and I'm hoping to be released to start running. Not sure what to do about running bras, though. I purchased new running bras (those things are $$$) about a month before I was diagnosed. I am not sure I'll be able to wear those for a while. The non constructed boob is going to need support for sure. I'll be asking about that, too.

Runnermum- if you do light side AND darkside in the same calendar year you can get the kessel run medal AND a coast to coast medal.. just sayin
and Im all things runDisney.. so if you have questions
Nightcrawler -welcome.. you will find lots of useful info within this group
Im still waiting for the Insurance to approve my biopsy.. since may 17th.. *rolls eyes* .. but since Ill be done with work on the 20th.. at this point might as well wait til then to get poked ..again.
since its almost summer.. any races or walks planned? i know its "off season" but there are a few that pop up
-
well biopsy #3 tomorrow morning. BUT I got to run/walk 2 miles today with the whole 5th grade class. they thought it was fun to use my interval timer :P
-
Panthrah~ I will be sending thoughts and prayers for your biopsy. Hugs. ~M~

OK, I am SO glad I stumbled across this thread again!! WOW, I need this!!
I have been so busy with small stuff, that I have lost sight of the bigger picture lately. I need to take better care of myself. I need to RUN again!!! But I am starting back at square on. Maybe just a long walk so I ease into it. But I will be starting!
-
Best wishes for good results from the biopsy, Panthrah!
My lumpectomy and SNB is next Monday, 6/26. I've been doing my best to get in my runs here in the sweltering Florida heat, as I know I'll be laid up for a week or two afterward. I did 10Ks the past two weekends ... which feel as difficult as halfs right now because of the heat and humidity.
I am wondering if I'll be able to walk a 5K on the 4th of July, though. I tend to bounce back from surgeries rather quickly, but I'll have to see how I feel and what the doctor says.
-
hi, nightcrawler. I hardly dare put my nose over the parapet on this thread at the moment: I'm using what i think of as unbearable heat and a busy time at work and home as an excuse to do nothing more than walk the dogs in the evenings. i just want to say i was very lucky with my lumpectomy and snb. I was fully recovered in a week or so and back to work and driving sooner. The absolute worst bit is waiting for the path results: other than that, it really was much better than I expected. Hope all goes well for you.
-
I had my pre-op with my surgeon this morning. I asked him if I would be able to at least walk a 5K on the 4th of July, and he said I should be able to!
My concern is that, since I had to stop taking my bcp's, my endometriosis symptoms are reemerging. I have stage IV endo; it's all over my abdomen, and when I have my periods, I can barely walk. Hopefully, I won't get hit on July 4. For that reason, more so than the cancer, I will wait until race morning to register.
-
nightcrawler.. check my friends blog/support page for endo. Bloomin Uterus she has all sorts of info and is getting recognition for her work and support. And I would think you totally can walk a 5k on the 4th no problem.
Geewhiz- welcome back
:)
My biopsy results shld be back tomorrow or monday ( i think next wednesday) so i shall stalk the phone tomorrow to make sure. but really the no activity and no cat lifting for 48 hrs.. GAH im going stir crazy!!! no pain, minimal bruising.... Im just bored. First days of summer break and im stuck at home when Id rather be running around disneyland!
-
got the call back.. they dont like the biopsy.. it has characteristics of *insert big hard to say word* and they wld rather remove cause of my history. well...... im now 3 for 3 .. I think next time I shld just skip the biopsy part and save a step. i have a half marathon and 10k at the end of aug/beginning of sept. and i have San Diego comic con ( which i work) and our roller derby convention ( that i play and work) that last two week of july. I have from aug 1st til aug 11 to get this done before i have to go back to work * head desk* Im too damn busy for this crap grrrrrrr
-
Panthrah~wrapping my arms around you! One moment or one second at a time. Just breathe, I honestly know how you feel. It's happened to me many times as well. It's just a miserable disease. But please know you're not alone. If you have any chance of getting anything removed or taken out that is a bad seed. Please do it. get rid of it ! Iwill be sending you virtual hugs and prayers. Thinking of you ! ~M~
-
Panthrah - how are you? I've been thinking of you.

well come to find out my dr /surgeon quit/retired/got fired/ or moved. so my breast dr said " set up with this lady.." was trying to wait for them to call me but i felt like i couldnt do anything or go anywhere in case i missed the call and then we wold get stuck with phone tag . i called them ( 6/29) .. the person who answered the phone said the dr was going to be out for a week an half but i can see these other two drs. . I gave it a day to think about it. cause i REALLY am not screwing up comic con. we get free tixs because we put in the hard labor of set up and tear down then work 12 hr per day... I didnt want to screw over my friend. Well i call back and they say she is able to see me only in the morning on the 20th. NOOOPE opening day of comic con. sorry thats not happening. i call my dr back and left a message " i dont want to be a pain in the ass.. but she cant see me til the end of the month .. do you recommend anyone else?" next morning new dr office called saying my dr called them and asked if the can squeeze me in *SQUUEEE* so i have my meet n greet/pre op the12th. I told the lady.. Im not a stress case Im just highly busy
for people who dont know.. San Diego Comic Con is THE largest comic/ pop culture event in the world. and nearly impossible to get tickets. anyone who lives here understands the importance of the event. so the drs actually understand when i say i cant because of comic con.
Now i was suppose to start training for my full.. but I had the biopsy, then i think ive cracked a rib, we are under a heat advisory... if its not one thing its another
I also joined a running group online and so far their meets ups have been cancelled or I was unable to go .
but generally .. all is well
:) about to do crazy hair colors .. yes plural .. next week
thank you for checking on me

I'm still walking, no running yet. Taxol is giving me neuropathy problems in my feet, which makes it uncomfortable. Only 2 more to go and I'm hoping none of this is permanent. It's not bad, bad but is uncomfortable. Bareclaws, were you having neuropathy issues from treatment? If so, what have you been able to do to minimize it so you can comfortably/more comfortably run?
