Chewey was brought into the shelter by people who said he'd been hanging around their house. He is/was very thin and his coat is still matted underneath. He had a microchip, but the owners didn't come get him. Wife wanted to but husband didn't. He isn't that hard to get into the carrier, fortunately. Of course, if he connects with always going to the vet, it might become harder. The shelter thought he was 15yo, but he was chipped 10yrs ago, so I think he's younger. He was expected to be a hospice kitty, but he's so lively he may be adoptable 'with problems'. There are some dedicated people who will take elderly ill cats to give them a comfortable loving send off. There's an Old Dog Haven here and I think we need the same for cats.

    Called after Chewbacca?

Who knows? He doesn't seem to chew things up.

Yesterday the shelter got a 28yo cat named Nutmeg. The owners said they couldn't afford vet care. So I googled the world's oldest cat: 31yo and also named Nutmeg. Maybe the name has something to do with it. We previously had a 20yo who was adopted twice. The first adopter was trying to replace her departed cat. That rarely works.

I think I will change my name to Nutmeg.

Maybe the name Nutmeg is connected to the cats' color, and the color gene is connected to longevity genes?

Wow that is a fantastic feline age. LOng life and happiness to Nutmeg. So hope he can get adopted for his retirement.

our Lu Lu has too much fluff to clean herself. She will lift her back leg, wrap for front paw around it to pull it towards her mouth. This rarely works out for her and she rolls over, still with messy fur.. haha

Our other kitty Levy will come along to help her out. She just lays there like a lump getting a massage..lol

hahaha I guess she does. This afternoon my youngest child, turning 8 tomorrow, is carrying her through the house. She just hung there, praying for mercy silently. He sits with her, then is on the go. He finally let her go after a very large warning huff. Her fur was every which way she just standing there looking like a train wreck. We think Levy has OCD, she took one look at Lu and began cleaning her instantly.lol

This is Levy.. She was diagnosed with Cancer the same day I found out. She has injection site carcinoma. We had surgery to remove the mass, but we were told it will come back. It was a horrible surgery. The recovery for her was rough. She is young, almost 4. She is sweet and noisy. She chirps and purrs loudly. We decided to love her as long as we can. When the time is right we will say good bye. Until then I will share her with you all. She is for her sticking her tongue out. lol

let me give you a little Lucy back ground. So I was animal sitting for a friend. She only has outside Ferrell cats. I think maybe there was 8? Anyway I go in the house, fed everyone inside and out,I go to my car and in the center of a 3 car driveway was a small baby kitten. Maybe 4 days old? She was pathetic. Very pale gums, barely moving, full of fleas. I picked her up and brought her home. She was very very weak and malnourished, cold, even though it was summer in Georgia. I had previously nursed newborn kittens, who were sick. They didn't have the same outcome sadly. We created a albuterol air tent, got her blood sugar up,warm,e an. Day 3 she was okay. Eating, moving, meowing like crazy. We took her to the vet and got meds. She was only 4 ounces big ๐Ÿ˜ฎ she grew quickly and healthy. She had such a naughty side, just being a kitten. She tore wallpaper, chewed wires, pushed all her litter out of her box.. that's how the name Lucy came. Short for Lucifer.lol Lucky Lu came to us at a perfect time. Her favorite human, Mackenzie, was battling depression, deeply. Meds, counselors, being a teenager. It was a rough time. Lucky needed us as much as we needed her. Not sure really who saved who. She's been such a healing tool for Mackenzie. Sometimes writing about a certain time in your life makes you reflect and appreciate. Here is a pic of baby Lu..She was so itty bitty!

It is odd to have this many in one area at one time. This is 5 of my 6 babies. Missing my long haired black girl. I didn't even have the treats out!image
