Fairchild: a little late perhaps, and I apologize for having no particular solution...but I'd bet on dominant cat exhibiting displaced aggression, but I have no suggestions as to how to deal with cat-on-cat interactions.
Something like this happened to me years ago. At that point, I had an only cat, because he was EXCEEDINGLY dominant, to the point of jailbreaks to pummel intruder cats when he was in his late teens. One of the local ferals was sitting on our back stoop, taunting him; I tried to pick him up, to separate them....my hand's still not working right, nearly fifteen years later.

Fairchild - This is actually normal behavior. The cat is taking out its frustration of not being able to secure his territory from the alien cat. Cats live in the moment and usually tend to go back to normal within a day or a couple of hours. My neighbor has a male and female. The male became upset with a stray cat passing their window and in turn beat up the female cat. By the end of the day the male was back to normal and the female was cautious but went back to her normal routine.
Beau is so excited to see every box that come in the door.

Grace got into trouble with mommy and daddy today. She climbed half way up the tree and when I chased down from that she decided that she was going to climb on one of the curtains. She got a good scolding from me. She thought that Daddy wasn’t going to scold her when she tried climbing the curtain again when he came home. He scolded her and she ran right up onto the cat tree and sat there for about a half hour.

LOL feelin feline! Mommy of 2, thats funny. They definitely try everyone out. Sounds like you have teenagers now.
-
Feelingfeline, you're such a kitty mom. That's why she came your way.
-
Yep. Princess has never tried to climb my curtains. She always has climbed into the tree until this year. She is starting act more and more like a mature adult and it's Grace that is acting like the teenager.

I am the person reaching for the cat. Most definitely.
I am in my 60's and have had cats in my life for a total of nearly 60 years. My Peaches is failing at 18 years of age. My husband doesn't want any more cats and about 15 years ago I agreed to this. What was I thinking? I am beginning to wonder if I will have to go into therapy over this. The thought that this is my last Christmas with a cat makes me burst into tears. I am totally emotional over this. We had to euthanize our Siamese last month.
On the bright side one of my 1-year old granddaughter's first words was one I taught her. She was fascinated when she heard me say it and immediately copied me. Now she says it whenever she sees at cat.
"Meow".
Is it genetic?

Corky - it sounds like you are already in withdrawal so you definitely need to override your DH and get another one when the time comes. I hate seeing all of the cats at Petsmart, especially the ones whose owners have died. They always look so forlorn. I would love to bring one home but my husband has always said one cat at a time. He said "it's me or a second cat." Well, I thought about it for about a week and decided his Social Security and pensions are a lot more than another cat could earn, so I had to keep DH instead. Yes, there have been moments when i question my decision!!
