She really sounded good, her voice was much stronger than the last time I talked with her. I really do think that it was the medicine thy put her on that was causing her confusion, and not the tumor itself, and that was before she did the rads. Her voice was much clearer, and she didn't mention any confusion like she did then. Because confusion never was a normal thing for her. Right before all of that happened, she had just finished their taxes- - i can't do that, even without everything she had. i hope by now, some of you have heard from her too. It was so awesome, like you said, lucy, I was so excited, I didn't even do a good job of shopping, I wanted to come tell you! The only thing she wanted me to do, was come tell all of you how much she loves you.

I have been reading along, almost every night, but I have had some pretty serious family stuff that has been stretching out since before this happened to Beppy. As a matter of fact, she had helped me through more than a bit of it, behind the scenes.

What a day! And the cubs are up, I guess I won't strangle Baez. love you all

So glad Beppy is able to talk again, however briefly and weakly—sounds like she will be getting stronger.

Iris, that surgery sounds miraculous—and I know that all of us in your pocket will sail you through it. Bermuda in Dec. sounds like a plan. (Beats Bermuda during hurricane season).

If I didn’t have a heart condition before tonight’s game, I’m well on the way to having one now. 7 games, the last with ten innings, a seesawing score, and a rain delay—a testament to the fact that neither team was ever willing to throw in the towel. My neighborhood is still noisy, but nowhere near as much so as Wrigleyville (which is still fairly peaceful—no rioting or vandalism). Meanwhile, I really feel for those poor sportscasters out there at Progressive Field—it’s a freaking monsoon out there.

Bob’s accident report is back from the police dept.—could there have been a more freakish auto accident, without serious injuries to boot? Sequence of events: he was driving NB on Lake Shore Dr., when a teenage driver lost control of his dad’s BMW, hit Bob’s Fusion’s rear quarter & bumper, went airborne over the center median and flipped over on its roof on to the SB lanes—hitting a Lexus. The BMW’s driver was fully insured, so GEICO will get back what it’s paying out on our collision/comprehensive policy. The kid was cited only for expired license plate stickers. But the Lexus’ driver was cited for driving w/o insurance (his car was totaled) and on a suspended license.

Had my left cataract done today. Doesn’t hurt nearly as much as the right one. Taking only Tylenol. Tomorrow they remove the dressing (the surgeon says I can take it off if my eyelashes are getting hung up on it, but leave the shield in place) and assess how well I’m starting to see. Farewell to my regular glasses—the distance correction in that left lens is almost certainly way too strong, and there’s no correction at all in the right one. So it’s drugstore readers (Whole Foods actually sells cute ones made from recycled plastic) and sunglasses for me. If my left eye is too bloodshot, I’ll wear my non-Rx Wayfarers to avoid scaring little kids). But I might take my existing frames and, once I get finally refracted in 3 weeks, get progressives that go from no correction on top to reading correction on the bottom. (Glasses are so much a part of my image that I don’t think I can give them up completely—they cover the circles & crows’ feet).

Iris, that is so great that you have such good people to help! I hope everything goes great, and you get better and better, strong again!

I am really so sorry, everyone, that I haven't been here more, I really have an awful problem in my family right now, it's been going on for months, just crazy. It's been taking up way too much of my time for way too long, and making everyone in my family of origin, just nuts. But I do read here almost every night, I just haven't posted. I do have a lot of 'splainin to do, in PMS also. I love all of you, and where is Ducky?

(bursts into tears of relief) Thank you Tomboy and Poppy.

I'm so glad to hear something, anything, from/about Our Beloved Mayor. Not sure how to explain this, but something along the lines of "Great joy and friendship may contain the risk of great pain through loss.'" Gf course good friends don't mean to hurt one another--there's no cruelty in genuine friendship. Of course she doesn't want to hurt us by letting us know what's going on with her, but as several others have said more eloquently, not knowing is the worst.

Iris - like always - I love pocket parties and will be in your pocket until surgery.

Went to the doc for a physical and ended up talking a lot about everything. Doc looked at my scars and suggested I go back to my onc - first for some closure being it is the '5 year kick you out on the curb" situation in this town - but to see if he would order the ultrasound or mri instead of mammogram. If he doesn't she said she would try to order the MRI.

She took one look at my wrist and said keep wearing the splint and call her next week if it isn't showing signs of improvement . Suggested another x-ray being some breaks don't show up right away.

She also told me to hide my scale and not get on it for a while. Thinking with all I been through the last few years my body has messed up my metabolism and just have to eat right and feel better. Another words I've been under too much stress.

This weekend I am in an Extra Life event to help our local children's hospital. I don't know how I'm gonna play the games with our guild one handed but gonna try. Here is a link to what it is all about. http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=don...

Just read about it and watch the video. I know it has a donate button but not asking you all for anything.

Had followup mammogram and full ultrasound yesterday, all results came back fine. I was surprised they did an ultrasound of both breasts and under armpit areas, so that was an unexpected bonus. So now I can enjoy my holidays!

Ducky1,,,thanks so much for your kind message. Had my port put in Wednesday afternoon under conscious sedation and the doc said all I talked about was an Italian hoagie and hold the mayo. And that's what I had for dinner. I ate half of it and it was soooooo wonderful. Actually gained back 5 pounds and we were thrilled with the gain

Had my first chemo treatment yesterday which was an all day party. I was exhausted. Didn't eat much of anything. Just staying hydrated is my job. I'm wearing afanny pack which dispenses chemo for the next day until I have it removed on Sunday T 1pm. Will get a neulasta shot on Sunday also. I'm sleeping a lot today. Had two saltine crackers and they seemed to bother me a few hours later.

    Thinking of Iris today, too.

Shorfi, it's good to hear from you! I hope you are starting to feel better after your weekend treatment.

Gma, I didn't just hide my scale, I gave it away! I only get weighed at the doctor's office. I'm there enough, anyway, one doctor or another is weighing me every month.

I had a question, and I'm not sure where to post it, so I thought I'd start here. Has anyone had muscle soreness/tenderness on the surgery/radiation side? A couple weekends ago I had a bad cold and was spent a whole weekend in bed. By the second day, I was getting some tenderness of areas that hurt after my surgery, particularly the back of the armpit. I'm a side sleeper, and it was happening when I was laying on the surgery side.

Since then I still have the tenderness behind the armpit, and my pec is a little sore, right by my shoulder, particularly when I get up in the morning.. It's not very painful, it just feels like a exercised a bit, except I didn't. I mentioned it to my MO's nurse, and she just nodded, and I mentioned it to my PCP's NP, and she said I need a massage. I dunno, could it be lymphedema? My MO felt my armpit nodes last week and everything was OK to him. I didn't mention the soreness/tenderness to him because I had bigger fish to fry that day and figured I hadn't given it enough time to go away.

My armpit/surgery area doesn't seem any more puffy that usual (there's an area below my armpit at the end of my mastectomy scar that's permanently puffy, and the doctors keep telling me it will go down, but yeah, right. We all know that isn't going to happen.)

Cubbie:I get this also (though in my case it was LX and nipple removal, not MX). No visual signs of LE, and the MO does check for it at every appointment, so my guess in my case has been that it is just some type of relatively minor nerve damage. I have noticed that certain bras make it worse in my case (so I've given them up). I wonder if you did put some type of extra pressure on the muscles with how you slept?

However, it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out by a lymphedema therapist to be sure there isn't something there. Perhaps call your MO and ask for a referral?

Shorfi: thinking of you! You too Iris!

    xox to all;

    Octogirl
