Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

At last something positive to report! Spent most of the day getting caught up with work, but just took a very brisk 35-minutes walk! It felt great. (Well, 30 minutes: popped in to the market to replenish my major food groups, cottage cheese, watermelon and English muffins). Today and tomorrow are my days to be active before I'm back in the chair Friday for more chemo.
Hope others had some success today.
-
Well I got in a 5 mile walk today. My future walks will be slower because my foot is in a boot because my dang big toe is btoken😠. I did tell the doc I was going to put a lot of miles on this boot. I don't think she believed me. She does not know me!!!!
-
I hope you can, KBeee!
I've done some work today while on a slow treadmill; now: snack, slather moisturizer, nap; later, more work, more slow treadmill. I want to get some professional notifications out, and I want to get my last set of grades submitted (the online test closes at 5 PM). Maybe I'll get my wife to dance with me later.
-
KSusan- how could she refuse? Make sure to have the fascinator on..... And maybe nothing else?
Kbee- so sorry that toe is broken. Wear that boot OUT,
-
Good idea--my scars are super-sexy in a way that would only be enhanced by the fascinator. Was it The Sensuous Woman that suggested greeting our husband at the door with a martini and wearing only Saran Wrap?
-
I NEED to find that book lol...sounds like it would make great coffee table reading! Hey, Ksusan- admit it. The playboy bunny vs. meat grinder look works for us!
-
i don't remember the original movie scene. But it was knocked off somewhat by the lady in Fried Green Tomatoes whose husband paid no attention to her. Funny scene, but my favorite was when in a rage she purposely bashed into a car that a younger woman drove into a parking space she had been waiting for. At the Piggly Wiggky if I remember correctly. Then said something about maybe being older, but having more insurance. Loved that!
-
Littleblue, we do look hot with our battle scars!
-
well, there is colored Saran Wrap. Think of the possibilities! Oh, and sometimes they make some with little patterns on it, like Christmas. I totally won't go there though - haha! I could crack myself up all day thinking of the connotations.
And yes I love that scene in fried green tomatoes. twanda!
-
Kbeee very sorry about the broken toe-major bummer. Heal well.
ksusan. Yes - I think it was "How to Be A Sensuous Woman". I hadn't thought of that for a while and then for some reason it popped into my head last weekend, oddly enough. Of course, I was WAY too young to read it, but did -
Here's your movie clip!
-
KBee - hope your toe heals quickly

...progress. I have to say it's baby steps for me but this forum is helping to keep me accountable. Plus all the extra commentary is fun to read!

Great! Next time, let's drop out the word "only." The rule is that everything counts!
-
Aughhhhhh I'm not going to make it 48 hrs without working out. I am going to go insane! I am all three dwarves...twitchy, itchy, and bitchy. MO said no working out for 48 hrs. I hate him. He's a rat fink. I bet HE never goes 48 hrs without working out!!! No running, no Physical Therapy, and of course no hiking. No showering either. This is the worst! My body is breaking down!! It hurts!!
On the plus side, either I'm growing hairs or my head has an atmosphere...
-
KSusan- Baaaaahahahahaha!!!!!! Sorry, it was the Winn Dixie, not the Piggly Wiggly.
6 blocks moderate speed with Action Jackson
-
ksusan, love it. Twanda! Woohoo!
16 miles on my bike. It isn't my usual, but I will take it. Too freaking hot and humid!
Littleblueflowers is it because of your port removal? 48 hours? Eek! What did he say could happen?
My head is feeling like a teddy bear, and weirdly, it is making my do rag stand up like all puffy and crap. Wonder how long before I ditch that thing?
-
yup. It's because of the port removal. I'm walking slowly so as not to break a sweat..
-
Littleblue, you can walk slowly for a good long time. It's not aerobic, but it still counts.
-
As you say, so mote it be!
-
Ksusan...I was feeling bad I was sliding backwards in my progress. I should not have said that, a mile is a mile. Thanks for pointing that out. Sorry! Hope I didn't offend anyone. You are absolutely right everything counts!!!
PB
-
No worries! I don't want you feeling bad about not hitting a high mark every time.
7/22:
- 1.0 hr T (2.0 MPH avg) + stretches
- (radiation #9)
- 1.0 hr T (2.5 MPH avg) + stretches TOTAL 4.5 m
-
Made it to the gym yesterday.... lots of sprints... which I of course jogged but made some progress on my handstand... did it without the wall
Karen... so sorry about that ole toe!! You are right though... put some miles on that sucker!
Little.. you crack me up.. I hated when I got my port in and I couldn't do anything for 10 DAYS!!!! I am pretty sure I did not follow that to the tee.
Nothing for me today.... Taxol# 6 going down at 2pm so Benadryl coma after that
-
I spent an hour on the elliptical last night for the second day in a row and I am stiff today! I think I will do a 3 mile walk tonight instead to take a little break.
-
Good morning! The cat and I are finishing our morning treadmill. I'm not a morning person, but I need to treadmill so I can eat, so I can stretch, so I can shower, so I can slather myself with moisturizer, so I can have the 2-hour absorbing window, so I can get radiation. After that, my real day begins!
7/23:
- .5 hr T (2.6 MPH avg) + stretches
- (radiation #10)
- .25 hr rowing machine
- 1.0 hr T (2.5 MPH avg) + stretches Total 3.8 m + rowing
#10 means X-rays, too.
-
I walked 3 miles this morning with the boot. 18 minutes per mile instead of my usual 15, but it is not very efficient to walk in. I may try to bike later too.
-
Kbee you are a rock star
KSusan- reading what you do when you aren't a morning person inspires me. I am a morning person. I'm still in bed and it's almost 10. Feeling sore, lazy and stupid today.
My plan is to attend my first Furry Friends meeting in 7 months. Then take Jack 4 times around a pretty park near there that is a 1/4 mile loop. I think I need to know closer to exactly what I'm doing. Does anyone have a comment on the FitBit or anything in that market?
Hope everyone has a great day.
Hope the itching has stopped, Littleblue, and you can climb back on the wagon with us!
-
Kbeee - can't believe you did that much with the boot!! Good on you!
Katy, I use a pedometer and have for 5 years. I'm hooked on it. I've also considered the various models of Fitbits and Nike Jaws. I've heard the newest Fitbit is far superior to other iterations. For myself, I like being amble to see the numbers throughout the day without having to synch to a computer or other device.
Which reminds me, your iPhone has a pedometer app available for just a few $$ - that might be an easy way to go.
I do find that having that objective info helps tremendously and is QUITE motivating as well.
Off to RT. Day 21 of 35. Have a good day, all. -
Katy, I downloaded the "map my walk" app on my iPhone. I'm not very tech savvy so I like that I just press a button and can count my mileage. It might be a good interim tool while you research fitbit options.
-
Hopeful and Sloth- great suggestion for interim trial. There were lots of options on my iPhone with good reviews. I downloaded one and will try it for a week or so. My question is a stupid one:
As long as your phone is one does it work? That us, does the app have to be open all the time or does it track through the gps chip?
-
Can anyone recommend an iPhone pedometer app? I downloaded the free Pacer one, but not sure how accurate it is. Anyone using one they really like?
