Trials coming for breast cancer vaccine developed in Jacksonville

my mo thinks this vaccine for her2+ could be the closest to a cure yet. Unfortunately it wouldn't benefit me but very encouraging for others.
-
This vaccine says for triple negative, my mo must have been talking about some other research vaccine
-
I have already contacted Mayo clinic to sign up for the trial and received a letter back that when the trial opens they will contact me. I also am being treated at a Mayo clinic so my ONC said that they would also scan the database for patients like me to be a part of the trial. He said would gather more information we could discuss it when it becomes available. It does give us hope that they are working on a cure. I pray every night and give thanks to God for the wonderful doctors and nurses that are working to help us rid our body of cancer and to come up with a cure.
-
I just got a call back from the Mayo Clinic regarding the TNBC vaccine. I was told that the media kind of jumped the gun a little. Said they were expecting to start the trial in early 2016. She put me on the list and said I would receive info as it becomes available.
-
Please keep us posted, jarris77. I'm in Colombia. I would really love to know when this trial starts.
-
I will post any info when I receive it. I called the Jacksonville, FL office and was transferred to Arizona. If I understood her correctly, they aren't sure yet which location will actually be performing the trial. She did say it sounds very promising!

Here is what I got from the clinic after signing up for information on the trial. Roxanne

This is incredible! I am not TN but my friend is. I showed her this article. We are holding out hope that this is going to be a game changer!!
-
Oh, it's for early stage. Too bad.
-
Redporchlady, that is the exact email that I received. I called first and then sent an email and got a response from both. I don't know how any of this works, but I was afraid if I waited too long, I would miss the chance to get in on the trial.
The article stated that they wanted patients that had tumors that expressed a protein....folate receptor alpa protein. Does anyone know if that is something that we can find out?
-
Just signed up today. I am so excited to be a part of this trial. I feel it may be a breakthrough for all types of cancer in the future. I really hope I will meet the criteria. At this point I don't know if my tumor expressed the Alpha Folate Protein which seems to be a requirement for this trial. It apparently isn't something tested in most pathology reports.
-
I have been trying so hard to find out the status of this trial. I got the same response from Mayo Clinic as most people. How did you get in gw1945?
-
The MO I went to for a second opinion mentioned this trial, or possibly another one coming out too, and said that when I finish chemo, rads, etc that they'd probably have more information but she wants to sign me up when the time comes. She said it all depends on my brca testing but she seemed very excited about it.
-
I want in on this! What do I need to do?! Anyone have info on who to contact? Do I just call the Mayo clinic?!
-
how can I contact them to be put on the list?!
-
I just called them and they told me because I have Medicaid it's a $5000 pre service fee. This is bullshit!
-
what?!!! That's insane. And stupid.
-
yeah well I'm still going to get info and try to sign up. We have a way to add insurance through my husbands work if need be.
-
Is there a link to email? I went to the mayo site but can't seem to find anything? Chemo brain!
-
they don't have anything online yet because it isn't open for trials yet. I called to get put on a list.
-
Thank you Addie!
-
you're welcome. It gives us hope and I refuse to miss out on a potentially life saving drug. They didn't even have details about it. But I was told told that once they do and you're signed up you will get details.
-
what number did you call?! I want on that list!
thank you!
-
I went online and looked for the FL office number. I called the general number and then they directed me to the appointment line. I explained what I was looking to do and we went from there. They take some info and set up an acoount for you. Then you should receive a phone call from someone in about 3-5 days.
-
thank you!

I'm sure everyone is aware of the upcoming ASCO cancer conference at the end of this month.
Abstracts were just released to the public. Among them was an abstract dedicated to a Phase 1 trial focused on the immunotherapy vaccine developed by the company TapImmune. As the OP mentioned, Mayo Clinic researchers are collaborating with TapImmune to develop the vaccine.
Here is the abstract: "A phase I trial of the safety and immunogenicity of a multi-epitope folate receptor alpha peptide vaccine used in combination with cyclophosphamide in subjects previously treated for breast or ovarian cancer."
Details of this trial will be discussed during the conference in two weeks. Here's the details of this Phase 1 clinical trial from clinicaltrials.gov
Estimated Enrollment: 24
Study Start Date: July 2012
Estimated Primary Completion Date: June 2015This may not be the exact trial the OP is referring to, but it's certainly a precursor to future vaccine trials dealing with the folate receptor alpha protein. It should also be mentioned that there a number of early stage immunotherapy trials dedicated towards TN.
-
this isn't the same trial they are referring to. I spoke with someone from the mayo clinic yesterday that deals directly with vaccines. This trial isn't released yet and is still waiting for funding. They aren't sure how many people it will be for either.
-
Ladies, I was given this number to call today: 904-953-2865. It goes to the head of Clinical Trials at the Jacksonville clinic and her name is Cathy. She is out of the office, so I left a message. Thought you all might like to know!
-
that's who I spoke to. Very friendly.
-
Greetings,
I spoke with a rep. from the Mayo Clinic today. A little update about the TN vaccine study. They are hoping to begin the screening process at the end of the year and are planning to offer the trial at all 3 locations (Jacksonville, FL - Rochester, MN & Scottsdale, AZ). I asked how many potential patients are they anticipating for the program and was told 200. Not sure if it's for all 3 sites or the total for all 3 sites. Just want to share the update. If you are looking for more info the main number at Mayo is 507-284-2111. Everyone that I have spoken with at Mayo has been very helpful, empathetic and professional. #KeeptheFaith
