35 mph winds, and huge waves! Another great day to enjoy the beaches at Lake Erie!

Sunset pink reflecting on the spray from the waves on Lake Erie.

Beachbum, you take the best pictures, they always make me smile!!
-
Thanks 6doggies! So many times I look but don't "see", but there is simplicity and joy around us all the time. We just need to stop and enjoy it! I'm always delighted to share, and I appreciate your kind words. Cheryl

Wow, you are more adventurous than me, I've been hunkering down in the house. Great pictures! Husband gonna be out of town some in the next few weeks, want to get together for some dinner sometime soon?
-
Dinner sounds great, let's pick a restaurant and do it. Have you tried Parkers in Avon Lake? Cheryl

I had the winning ticket for the Ice Bucket Challenge at PolyOne! I donated to The Gathering Place West, and my reward was dumping 2 1/2 gallons of ice water on the Plant Manager!! And I wore my beanie copter hat. We were raising money for the United Way. He was a good sport, I still have my job

Hi Ladies, I had a great weekend in Cincinnati! Went to Cabela's for the Ladies Day Out on Saturday with my friends from Casting for Recovery. The next retreat for Ohio will be in September 2016, check it out and apply!! A great experience.
-
Look what I caught this time! Pretty easy catch, he wasn't going any place. But fun.
-
Hi MammaRay! Thanks for checking in, this thread has been too quiet! How are you and the family? If you are still thinking to meet for dinner or something, just let me know. I can always drive South. Hugs, Cheryl
-
Hi MammaRay, Sorry you are so tired, but I had the same thing happen during rads. I slept, woke up, and slept some more. I was absolutely exhausted. Totally dead tired no matter how many hours I would sleep. I woke up tired. Took me a while after to feel rested, but fatigue is still a problem, not sure if it's a leftover side effect or just from working. I did see my MO yesterday and she said that I am too far out from chemo to have side effects! I've been having horrible joint pains as well and she said I have arthritis but the bone scan listed degenerative joint changes, and a lot of them. I asked her if that was from chemo but she said that was probably arthritis as well. Hard to imagine that all of this damage just happened that quick. I wonder how I would feel if I didn't have chemo? I was so active before chemo but the pain has slowed me down.
Kudos to you homeschooling! That is a full time job educating your son. My Mom was a teacher so I know how much extra work she did at home. Not so easy. And you'll have other sports to watch, you can't do it all. Maybe someone there got the pics?
I get the rollercoaster, I'm in the front car right now. I had my bone scan, CT, and blood work and the bone scan results were clear except for the degenerative bone and joint changes but the CT was a problem. The issues I had from all of the previous scans weren't listed or compared in the report and my MO sent the reviewer an email to review it again before she will report to me. The CT is the one I really need to know. I had mets reported and abdominal nodes listed on my previous CT's, but not this time. So where are they? Did they miss them, did they change, or are they gone?? My MO said that while unlikely they could be gone, yeah! Or they could have been missed, boo! Being Stage 4 with mets, I need to know if I still have the mets. My Stage 4 won't change but knowing I have mets is a game changer as you know what that means. The real kicker was, she said the review would take 6 to 8 weeks. So more wait and see, it is so disturbing to know that it may be nothing or something and all I can do is wait.
Hang in there, sleep when you can. But I did find that walking does help. Exercise builds energy, but it's hard to do that feeling so tired. But that's what they tell me anyways! Take Care, Cheryl

Had a good time at the beach with TJ, a friend from Casting for Recovery.
-
Hi Ladies, I went to the waterfall in Elyria yesterday to catch the beautiful fall color. I've been busy, what are you doing??
-
I golfed 18 holes with DH in Oberlin Friday, absolutely gorgeous out, hope to be doing it a month from now.
Sunset from my condo last week.
-
genny5775, beautiful! If nothing else, Ohio is pretty!! I'm not a golfer but, golf courses are pretty especially the "famous" ones. I like to watch it on TV. But the exercise from golfing is great! So let's eat, I'm hungry. Sent you a PM. Cheryl
-
Hi Ladies, I met with genny5775 last night for dinner at Parkers in Avon Lake and had lots of fun! The food was great, but the conversation was better. We should have a group get together soon! Cheryl
-
MammaRay, no pictures?? I am so glad that you got away for such a lovely vacation. Rads are tiring, I was dragging by the end of it all. One day at a time, it has to run its course. Good to hear from you!! Cheryl
Still hoping for that get together some day! XXOO

Happy New Year to all my Cleveland breastie sisters!

Happy New Year to all my survivor sisters, Thought I would check into site to see whats is happening and stumbled on this wonderful thread. So glad to find you. I am being treated at Cleveland Clinic.
-
Good morning fellow Clevelanders. I hope everyone had a nice holiday, I have to work this morning but thought I'd pop in quick.
bluejeans, welcome, I had my tx at University Hospital, rads at Seidman Cancer Center downtown. I have since switched over to Cleveland Clinic in Avon, I really like it there. Looks like you are finished with active treatment?
MammaRay, I would love to plan a get together altho I may not be able to till February, I am going on vacay end of January and things will be hectic till then. We will have to put our heads together and see who wants to go and find a restaurant in the middle.
Beachbum, you got some extended beach time this year, DH golfed 18 holes on Christmas Eve. Hope you're doing OK and had a wonderful Christmas. Still NED I hope?
Hope everyone has a good weekend before getting back to the grind.

Hi Mamma Rey and all of you Northeast Ohions, Yes I live in Spencer used to live in Oberlin. I am very interested in a February get together. I mostly go to the Avon CC. It is beyond any expectation I could have had for treatment. Will talk soon. So happy to find all of you, thank you for your kind welcome. Bluejeanne
-
bluejean, Do you go to Dr Misbah? I do and I really like her, beachbum goes to her as well.
MamaRay, I think a February get together sounds great. In January I am going on a 4 day Disney cruise with 6 ladies that I met on bc.org. actually never met in person but online friends. I'm also going to visit a few friends in Florida while I'm there so I'll be gone a week. I'm really looking forward to it!
-
Hi Ladies! So happy to see everyone here. A get together in February sounds great!
I've been off work since 12/17, I am having severe joint pain and issues with my right leg. I have a release for 1/12 but the HR department has to approve it, so waiting to see what happens there. The job involves a lot of walking so not sure if I will have a job soon.
Looks like we have a group at Avon Jacobs. All of my Doctors are there, and I love that place. Anyone going to Avon, let me know and maybe we can meet for lunch!
Welcome to bluejeanne, I'm glad you found us. If you want to meet after Avon, just let me know. I used to live in Litchfield, so we may have been country neighbors. I love to be out, but I now live on the lake.
Suggestions for our February get together? Great to hear from everyone, let's plan something. Cheryl

Hi Ohio Ladies:
I am in the process of deciding on being treated at Cleveland Clinic (Main campus) or closer to home in Pa. I'm interested in knowing your experiences at CC (doctors, adjunctive services, accommodations, etc.). This is a tough decision for me since I'll be away from family and on my own through surgery and radiation treatment. Given the winter months and Cleveland snow, I doubt I'll have regular vistors.Did you feel supported while being treated at CC? I guess I'm a little scared of beng alone AND experiencing treatment.
Any information posted here or in PM are very welcome!
-
Thank you for your encouraging response. I really was impressed with CC and especially liked Dr Shah, a radiation oncologist at Main campus. He was very kind and informative. I wish you the very best with your continued treatment there.
Thanks for reminding me to pray....
-
Marcella, I have done all of my treatment at University Hospital rather than Cleveland Clinic, but I have a few family members that have used CC and have been very happy with their care. If you do decide to come here for treatment, would you stay in a hotel? How long would you expect to be here? As was mentioned, our winter so far has been extremely mild, so I would think traveling wouldn't be as tough as you might think.
I'm in for a Feb get together. Any ideas on where to meet?
-
Hi fellow Northeast sisters, I am up for meeting in February wherever you choose and whenever. Will be gone over the 12th and 13th to visit my mother in Illinois. Otherwise will be so glad to meet you all. I love the Avon CC. My Dr. (Iskarus) just left for University H. I asked my regular Dr. (also a survivor) to recommend a new onc. Dr. Moore, have not seen her yet, she is downtown. I see Dr Djohan for reconstruction at the Avon CC. He is amazing. My experience has been one of love and support through the last months.
Cheryl Yes, we were neighbors! Thank you all for the warm welcome, so happy to know I am not alone.
Marcella, Good luck with your choice ahead will be praying for the best guidance to lead you.

Thanks for your reply, Badhairday!
I would stay in a hotel and probably remain in Cleveland for the time after surgery and for the radiation treatment--it might work out to a few months stay here. The reason it is attractive to come here is if I stay in a hotel on the CC main campus I would be close for daily rads.
Staying in Pittsburgh would be a hardship, becuase I am not from there. I only have been there for a family crisis and I was in the process of going home (east coast) when I got my diagnosis. I figured I would get treatment in Pitt or Cleveland before going back to my life back home.
It might be weird being in a hotel alone through treatment but perhaps the CC has some support groups/activities and you ladies seem very sociable and supportive. Part of me welcomes that and part of me wants all of this to go away....I know you understand that......
Thanks again!

BlueJeanne:
Thank you for your prayers!! : )

Marcella, there are definitely benefits to staying in a hotel. (Long story, but I lived in a hotel suite for six weeks following my mastectomy, and for my first chemo treatments.) You have housekeeping service, so you won't be tempted to overdo it by cleaning your house. You are really forced to rest. I stocked my fridge with lots of healthy, easy to prepare foods, like salads, fruits, etc. I watched a ton of movies, read, surfed the internet. It was very relaxing and restful. Going to treatments alone can be difficult at times, and it can get lonely, but looking back, I really was able to focus on healing and resting. Once I moved out of the hotel, I got distracted by housework, and I would often do more than I should have. I also had a seven year old that I needed to entertain, so that added some drama to the mix. It is doable tho.
I live in a close suburb to Cleveland, and would be happy to meet up for lunch or coffee if you get bored or lonely. There is also a facility called The Gathering Place that is about 20 minutes from downtown. They offer a ton of support: groups, counseling, exercise classes, massage, nutrition, etc, and it is all free of charge to patients and their families. I would strongly recommend taking advantage of what they have to offer. If I can be of any help to you, please don't hesitate to ask.
