Downton Abbey

Cute video, luv. I thought last week's Downton episode was so good and am a bit miffed we are at the final episode of the season already! Much too short of a season. I like Call the Midwfe, too, but haven't watched Mr. Selfridge, tho my sister says its good.
-
i think i finished season 4 on amazon. may have missed a few
does the titanic ever come up or was that much earlier
-
The Titanic figured into season 1 because an heir to Lord Grantham perished onit. Eventually, Matthew, a distant cousin, was located and he became the heir to Downton.
-
I was sad to read today that Maggie Smith will be leaving after season 6.
-
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Say it isn't SOOOOO!
-
Many hints of DA ending after Season 6. Loved last night's show
-
Oh my.....she is definitely my fav. Has anyone seen her in her youth in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"? Wonderful movie!
MsP
-
She had a point about it, they're into the twenties, how old can her character realistically get. Hate that their season is so short, it flew by!
-
I think Jean Brodie is the first thing I really remember her in. She was outstanding even then.
-
With some of the characters moving to the US (Benson, Rose and Atticus) Time for a spin-off?
-
Yes, I heard whisperings of the show ending after season 6. The ending was very happy last night, with no great mysteries hanging in the air. It will be a long time until January 2016,
-
last night was great! Good to see Edith finally get a little bit of happiness.
Is it just me? Two months season for the whole year? Yikes! 9 episodes for year seems really short season
We have Call the Midwife, Selfridge and what was the other one (seemed similar to Selfridge) to look forward t
-
I've started watching DA from the beginning again and it's just as exciting the second time around. So many initial introductions and relationships are clarified, which is helping me to enjoy the entire series. When you have lots of time, give it a whirl.

yes, the season was way too short!
-
I've read (somewhere) that once Downton Abbey is wrapped up, the creator/writer - Julian Fellowes - has another project in the works. Can't wait to hear what it is.
By-the-by, Julian Fellowes played the Duke of Richmond in the six-part mini-series based on Stella Tillyard's biography "Aristocrats". Another must see if you like period drama.

-
The new series is called The Gilded Age and should be interesting.
The next season of The Paradise should be coming after Mr. Selfridge. We like that series as well, but it still won't be enough to fill in the time until DA returns!
-
This too-short season ended with so many loose ends all neatly tied in bows that it really feels like we've seen our last episode. If they hadn't announced that another season is in the superslow works, I'd have been sure we'd seen the last of the Crawleys. But they make us wait so lonnngggg!
An American spin-off, hopefully with oodles of current characters, would be so delightful!
-
Ive just spotted The Forsythe Saga (2002) on Netflix, which is not a soap but a gritty drama. Not quite Downton Abbey but I enjoyed it. Think I might try it again. There's also Upstairs Downstairs.
-
I'm re watching on Amazon.
On season 2 a character with burns over most of body comes and claims to be the Patrick that died on titanic. The he leaves quickly. Does he ever reappear?
Then after war. Spanish flu breaks out. I fall asleep. Did Mathews fiancé die? She had strange nam
-
Fran,
I believe the burned man, Patrick, killed himself. Yes, Matthew's fiancee, Lavinia died of Spanish Flu.
-
I couldn't remember what happened to the false Patrick but I thought it was an oddly added jaunt. If I remember correctly I don't think it brought anything new or story advancement. More a time filler?
And the fiancee dying was perfectly true of what the Spanish flu did. Picked mostly on those in their 20-30s. My FIL lost both his parents when he was just barely 2 to the Spanish flu.

Time to revive this thread as we look forward to tonight's premiere of the final season of Downton Abbey.I believe our East Coast sisters have already seen it. Those of us on Pacific time stil have a bit more than 90 minutes. Looking forward to it!
-
I'm on the east coast but without a TV. Will be live streaming tomorrow night. Can't wait!!
We've been moving slowly through the first seasons and watched the third through last of season 2 tonight, since we couldn't get the new episode....
-
Count me in, one hour twenty min to go
-
Dang! I missed it!
-
mags, they always do repeats the same week. Search if you can
-
It's on at midnight, if I can stay up that long, if not, they'll show it before the new one next Sunday.
-
ooohemgeeee! that was a good one!
the staffing issues at the Dowager house tonight was a hoot!
-
Great episode! The conversation between Mrs.Patmore and Mr. Carson was perfection.
Usually you can find a way to watch the episode somewhere online if you just google it.
My favorite line of the night was when The Dowager said to Isobel,"Tell me, does it ever get cold up there on the high moral ground?" Ha, ha, more lines like that, please!
-
Yes,it was wonderful. The story line about Mary being blackmailed was an odd bit and certainly an unusual test of her fitness as estate manager. I also must say, that I liked the fashion of earlier seasons more, especially the very Edwardian stuff of season I. Kudos, however, for great historical accuracy
