How vain are you?

What a fabulous group of VAIN women!!!!
Show Your Port! Wear it with PRIDE. Or, ignore it. LOVE IT. Just the best attitude, perfect!
Rock your modern short hair. Like Momine, I never wore a wig, scarves, and my favorite "Camp Hat" with No Hair Day embroidered in front from the Gift Shop at Dana Farber, I still wear it! While bald, I used face paint & face crayons to decorate my head. FUN! BUT, learned they can melt/drip when ya sweat, alas. Maybe that's a new product, sweat proof head decorations?
I so loved my short, inch long hair, I wore it that was for a few years...SO EASY.
Barbe - the MOST gorgeous dress - and the PERFECT necklace...awesome.
-
Barbe you look amazing in that dress, the color is perfect for you!
Momine, what a beautiful photo of you too! You wear the short cut, very well and the scarf looks fantastic.
Caryn, have a wonderful time and enjoy wearing that dress!
I agree with Sunflowers, what a great group of fabulous, stylish women, with attitude! This is a great thread!
-
Getting ready to do my gel nail mani and I'm thinking about all of the bad jokes I'll be able to make over the next week using the words "port side" . Gotta go, the Grand Princess awaits!
Caryn
-
Caryn, I assume the Grand Princess is the ship, not your daughter. (Sorry, I just COULDN'T RESIST!)
Barbe, you look gorgeous in that dress!
My older DS (who lives in Baltimore) and my youngest DD (who's been in Houston since the fall) are both coming on Tuesday to be here for Passover. I love when my chicks return to the nest! DS is bringing 2 mail-order wigs I had sent to him so I'll see how they look. I'm rooting for gorgeous.
Leah
-
Leah, rooting for gorgeous for you too!
exbronx, enjoy your vacay....
and thanks ladies for the feedback! That made my day.
-
Happy Passover, Leah, definitely gorgeous!
-
Momine, you rock that haircut!
-
Headeast, your user name has given me a "There's Never Been Any Reason" ear worm
-
yes! Good song, Melissa!
-
Indeed. I can remember being happy when it came on the radio when I was a kid.
-
coming to you live from South Carolina. Missed everyone and have just caught up with the vain ladies. Great dress barbe. Hope you have a great time caryn. I've already been on a ten kilometre walk on the beach and tomorrow have a long bike hike planned
Dresses. My brother got married nine days following my surgery. It was the hottest day in creation with heavy humidity and the dress I had bought was just going to be too hot. So I wore a halter dress instead (it was an informal garden wedding followed by a barbeque). You could see my snb incision but... Oh we'll. I was too hot to care. My sister was scandalized. My nephews (her sons)were like ... Go aunty! Flaunt it like the badass you are". Love those boys
-
Barbe, you look lovely in the dress & pretty necklace...
Momine, great photo...I bought the $200 wig, never took it out of the box..hats, scarfs and alot of snow beanies as I live in a cold winter climate. I think my hair is about 1 inch now, wild, with lots of calicks.
Selena, walking in the beach is my top choice for feeling at peace with the world. Seems primal to me, wish I lived closer to the ocean. Trying to plan a trip for late June....good for you wearing the dress that was comfortable. I was in a swim suit a couple of weeks ago, with friends, at a pool. One of the gals pointed to my SNB scar, asked "what's that & why is it blue", she has been there through the whole process, but still not aware of what we go through..
Leah, enjoy your time with the family, Happy Passover...

I don't have enough hair on my head and already look hairy on my face! So not fair! I just used the Sally Hansen facial hair remover and look normal again.
Has anybody had that issue of hair growing on the face after chemo? Or is it maybe the Tamoxifen?
-
Headeast - the fluffy stuff on your face will stop after chemotherapy. On arimidex I had ( still have now even tho I finished my 5 years on it) increased facial hair, but not fluffy stuff, LONG chin hairs - "byt the hair of your chinny chin chin kind of hair...the gifts of bc?
-
Headeast, I also had the hair on the face after chemo. It did go away after not too long, but for me I was at least lucky enough that it was white hair so hardly noticeable.
Leah
-
thank you ladies! I am glad to know I am not the only hairy one here! Lol!
Now working on whitening my teeth, they turned a little yellow! Getting back to normal little by little!

I'm on holidays this week and have indulged in a whole buncha "bad": lunch was smoked salmon and eggs with fresh dill and a wholegrain ciabatta bun; dinner was vegetable pasta with chicken and plum tomatoes, and glass of pinot noir. I'll be good when I get home... right now I'm enjoying just living life like I wanna live it.
We went for a 20 mile bike hike along the beach and island trails; that's 35+ miles on the bikes so far, and 9 miles on foot. We thinking of another walk before the sun sets. We come to Charleston every Spring, so we're quite familiar with the area and feel comfortable moving around and walking everywhere. Tomorrow, we're hitting the historic district (well, not literally) and visiting the museums and art shoppes.
We have a big ol' snowy egret peeking in our back door. Seems like he's used to being hand fed. He climbed up the stairs of the back porch and kept clicking his beak at us through the screen, so my husband went to get him some chicken. When the bird heard the fridge door open, he screeched (I just about shed a skin). Yes, this guy is used to getting handouts. So, now, he's out there munching on chicken pieces and looking tremendously pleased with hisself. I think I'll call him Oscar. Or Egbert. Egbert the Egret.
ps. OMG! My honey and I are killing ourselves laughing. When Egbert finished his chicken, he used his foot to rap on the screen door for more!!! Nothing quite like an inquisitive egret knocking on your door!
-
too funny. My sister feed the squirrels pecans. She used to have one who would climb the back door screen & hang there looking in the window to let her know she was running late.
-
Selena, we have a cheeky Egret that visits here and knocks on the window for food, and in our last house we had one that would come and eat the goldfish out of my pond.
Your getaway sounds divine and I wouldn't be concerned about the food either, it sounds delicious.

I have had a bad experience with gel manicures. For my 50th high school reunion I treated myself to a french manicure, as I had not had a real manicure for years. Many compliments and I decided to continue every two weeks, treating myself and feeling good about it. About 4 months later, One nail split down to the "quick" and the manicurist used glue to put it right. Another 2 weeks passed and 4 more nails broke off down to the "quick". It is about a month since this mini - disaster, after having the gel stuff removed and nothing put on my nails. I am using a clear NutraNail strengthener and they are slowing looking more normal. Maybe I have thin nails or the manicurists was a bit too aggressive in soaking and removing the old polish - who knows. For now on, no more gel manicures.
Barbe, the dress is divine. I remember you before your grandkids were born and consider you a great inspiration and friend. Next month I will consider myself a 6 year survivor. Although I rarely post, I read follow along with this thread. Hope Spring is on its way in your area.
-
Oh, GramE - I had a bad experience with gel manicures, too. I adored the way they looked, and my manicurist was very gentle and took her time removing the old polish (after she let it soak in a cotton ball saturated with remover)...
But somehow, every time a little bit more of the natural layer of my nail started peeling off. I got horrid white marks and my pinky nail got a permanent split in it. So I gave them up, cut my nails all the way down, and went back to doing plain manicures myself. It took 8 months, but now my nails are long and healthy.
Somewhere along the way I even learned how to give myself a French manicure!
I used one of those "As Seen On TV" products to repair my nails... It's called Pink Armor Nail Gel and I get it at Walgreens.
-
Blessings, sounds funny that you use a "Nail Gel" to repair your fingers from USING a nail gel!!
GramE, thanks for the warm fuzzies this morning!! (And yes, though there are still remnants of snow in dips and dark valleys, winter is finally admitting defeat to Spring!) Huh, just realized something; we capitalize Spring and Fall (I guess because their spellings mean other common things) and don't capitalize winter and summer!! I LOVE figuring out shit like that! Like...is it called NEWS because of north, east, west and south?
As for the egret - why would a bird eat another COOKED bird? I'd have given it a loaf of bread or something....my birds here must hate me!
I saw a heron by the side of the country road I was on once and it really surprised me!!! I, apparently, surprised it as well and it flew up right as my car passed and CRAPPED, and I mean CRAPPED all over my car!! Gallons of white stuff!! I had to use my windshield wipers to be able to see! When I got home I couldn't believe it!! My car was covered from front to about halfway across the roof with heron shit! My husband couldn't believe it either when I called him out to see, but hey, even I can't make up this crap....heheheheheh
-
I love Shellac nails! Been using it for years with no problems. I do put oil on my nails religiously and also take Biotin daily. I think both things help.
We've got at least one pretty tame squirrel in our yard. I may have mentioned her before. I've named her (I have gotten close enough to know its a female) Peanut. First time I locked eyes with her across the yard she came running toward me! If I sit on the back patio long enough, she'll usually come around me and hang out. She likes to listen as I talk to her. Sometimes she'll stretch her little legs out, either in the tree or on the ground, and look at me as if to say "aren't I cute." My DH saw her outside his office window a couple of days ago. When she saw him waving at her, she ran toward the window! A little friend of Peanut's followed her over. So cute! I'm going to try to get a pic.
-
Oh Yorkie!!! Don't you LOVE it when animals respond to you??? I love talking to our rabbits and doves and squirrels and chipmunks, too! They LOVE being told they are beautiful....hehehehehehe
-
Barbe, yes, yes, yes! Those little guys learn to trust and love us in their own special ways! And I think they know we love them. Of course it helps that I provide them with lots of goodies.
-
Yorkie, I love that story about the Squirrel, we don't have them here. I saw my first one close up when I went to the US for training for my job. I stayed in Chicago at the United Airlines headquarters and on my way to the staff canteen I stoped to watch a squirrel on the ground. Unfortunately, the people that were around kept telling me to stay away from it because they carry disease. I don't know what they thought I was going to do with it...maybe shove it in my hand bag to take it home!
-
Ariom, lol! Some do carry diseases like all wild animals, but usually even the tame ones don't get THAT close. Anyway, I have read that they are as intelligent as dogs. They ones in captivity learn tricks and can be good pets. I don't recommend having one for a pet though, as I believe, with few exceptions, notably dogs and cats, animals belong in their natural habitats.
-
barbe - I know! But the "Armor" stuff is just nail polish, not the gel that needs a flourescent light to cure....
~ ~ ~
Oh, I love squirrels! My mom named every single one of them in her yard. However, she couldn't tell them apart, so they were all named "Squirrely"...
Where did I see that video of the college student who makes little hats for all the squirrels on campus? It was cute, watching her dress them and pet them, but it's all fun and games until someone gets bit and gets RABIES!!!! (or whatever squirrels carry...)
-
mad squirrel disease
-
Squirrels in North America don't carry rabies, or any major disease I can think of. They do get fleas, so I guess they can contribute to Flea-bourne problems, but mainly just making it harder to control a pet flea infestation if you have lots of them in and out of your yard.
