April, that's wonderful!!!! You must feel like you just got off the merry go round! I'm so happy for you. Now thoroughly enjoy the holidays!

Congratulations April!

Congratulations, April!
I am heading off to SoCal to spend Thanksgiving with my DD, SIL and the grandkids...can't wait! DD is cooking though I will help as much as her small kitchen allows (Mostly by keeping my three year old GS out of the kitchen, probably :-)) GD and I love to cook together so we have a few projects set aside for the two of us...
This hasn't been a year with a whole heck of a lot to be thankful for. That said, I am thankful for my family and especially that I get to spend the holiday with those little ones (even though GD isn't all that little any more: More like 7 3/4 going on 17 :-))...and I am also thankful for the Lumpectomy Lounge for being an anchor for me and helping me to adjust to the new normal of bc. All of you rock! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Octogirl, I'm glad you'll be with your family. If possible, try to remember that you're still here, slogging thru ugly chemo, and managing. It has to be hard for you (and others still in active treatment). I'm thinking of you and everyone here. This is a wonderful forum and I appreciate all the support I've gotten here.
HUGS!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my lumpy friends! (I consider you all family now
) Octogirl, enjoy those grandchildren. I love my little one so much. He is definitely the light of our lives. I am incredibly thankful for this website and forums and all the wonderful people who share their experiences. It is a wonderful community. I am thankful breast cancer treatment has come so far and we have more hope for long term survival. God's blessings on all you!
-
I agree with you, Molly. Im thankful that breast cancer detection and treatment is so much better today. My grandmother was diagnosed at my same age (59) and the things they did to her would make your hair stand on end.
I'm grateful to have all my children home for Thanksgiving. I grateful that my DD has graduated from culinary school in May and will be taking over a large portion of the cooking this year.I'm grateful that my oldest son has found himself a profitable skill (welding.) And I'm very grateful that when I went to pick up my youngest from his group home, he bolted straight out of his chair and grabbed me up in the biggest bear hug evet! Boy, do I feel loved!
-
Oh, Poodles, that is so wonderful about your youngest son. It must have made everything so much better. It appears that the family is doing okay and that you are too. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
HUGS!
-
Thanks, Peggy. I hope you enjoy a lovely Thanksgiving with your son, too.
And happy thanksgiving to one and all!
-
Had surgery yesterday to clean up to my margins from October lumpectomy and had my port put in last Friday......woke up today amazingly pain free!!!! Lots to be thankful for this year. I read a lot more than I post, but it's great to hear everyone's story and to know we aren't alone in this fight!
-
Poodles, have to wait until next year for Thanksgiving with my son. My brother is here so I'll have his family and hubby's oldest brother and wife will drop by. Happy Turkey day to you, too.
CyndiNic, glad you are feeling so darned good! Amazing, isn't it? You're going to do just fine.
Happy Thanksgiving again to all my dear friends here.
HUGS!

Seriously guys...thank you!!! I can't tell y'all how much you have helped to settle my nerves. I'm not really nervous about the lumpectomy, (I'm THRILLED to be getting this cancer OUT of me!), but as I get closer to the date, I know I will become stressed/worried/scared. (I tend to be a worrier by nature, something I'm trying to work on, so you can imagine how magnified it is right now! LOL!)
Knowing that so many seemed to have a fairly easy recovery is great!
Thank you SO much for sharing your stories with me! -
etnasgirl, we are here, just bring your questions and worries...this is a great group. HUGS!

Thank you Octogirl!
Happy Thanksgiving ladies!

May God grant the answers for all our needs this Thanksgiving Day, I pray for his guidance in our decisions so we may serve him as we fight our battles with cancer and other health issues and needs. Have a safe and happy day!
-
And to you, Shirley.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
-
I second all the wonderful Thanksgiving wishes here.....now if I can just have the discipline to not take seconds today....
-
I find that I really don't eat that much when I serve Thanksgiving. I don't know if it is because I'm just so happy to sit down that eating much is not that appealing and I do not like to overeat. But it was worth all the work. Now to do all the dishes. 90% of them are handwash. I have pre-war Haviland china that is definitely handwash and I just do my good china that way too. The Dirilyte goldware is handwash too. The damned pots and pans are handwash. I have stuff drying all over the kitchen. Luckily I had a lot of countertop space to dry it. But it will all be done and the tablecloth washed before I go to bed. I will NOT have it ironed by then
But it was such fun!
HUGS!!
-
Yuck the cleanup....I've got a mess waiting for me. Just hard to get to with a house full of guests...but I'm like you Peggy, it will be done before I turn in.
Hope everyone had a happy and blessed day!!!
Give thanks!!!

Nash, I have yet to figure out why I feel compelled to have everything done after Thanksgiving dinner. I sure am not that way about anything else. I will not win the White Glove Award (not be in the top million
). Maybe it's because I had to work the day after Thanksgiving for many years. Or maybe there's a loose wire in my brain that didn't connect to the DO NOT CLEAN socket.
HUGS!
-
Peggy, you sound like me! I ran the dishwasher twice BEFORE we even sat down to dinner. I skipped the nice china and silver this year--just too fatigued to face all that hand-washing. After dinner I filled the dishwasher *again* and STILL had a ton of hand-washing. Like you, I have pots and dishes all over the kitchen. Ah, well. It was worth it. All three kids were here, one boyfriend was here, and I managed to get the dinner together without too much stress. My knees are KILLING me, though. I took a Mobic and it has not helped one bit. I'm going to take a Percocet in a little while so I can get some sleep tonight!
-
Poodles, since I used the "good stuff" the dishwasher is quite neglected. Everything has been put back in the china cabinet. I'm pretty darned tired, too. Won't be up too much longer. Glad your day was so successful and wonderful!

Food put away, dishes done and the humans are stuffed. It was a pretty good day. I gave up on the good China and used paper plates. I am hurting pretty badly today. My underarm is maroon.
-
Just got back from Thanksgiving dinner with friends (two of whom are the husband & son of my friend who's now in assisted-living hospice). Opted to start with the “cream of pumpkin soup" which was more like a heap of mashed pumpkin. It was, uh, interesting. (Could've used some vegetable stock, creme fraiche and seasoning). Entree was a plate massively heaped with white & dark meat turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed sweet potatoes (didn't want the white spuds) and little souffle cups of about an ounce each of gravy and rather loose cranberry sauce. Suffice it to say we all had to take home leftovers. (I will make my own gravy and cranberry relish when I eat the “rerun" tomorrow night). Had an okay J. Lohr Pinot Noir, but the glasses were too small to properly taste and smell it and there was only about 4 oz. The dessert tray came around and all I could handle was black coffee (which was pretty good).
Watching the Bears about to blow a one-point lead.
-
Well, I'm sure glad this was an easy Thanksgiving.... Not!
My SIL brought the turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. After days of shopping, I got up early to make corn soufflé, stuffing from scratch, the appetizers, the desserts, roasted carrots and Brussels sprouts and other things my chemo brain can't remember. I was exhausted and totally out of breath. My back was spasming and my stomach was hurting. My tongue was tender and felt burnt. After a few ibuprofen I pushed through it all and Thanksgiving turned out pretty nice. I even ate and the Bears won!
ChiSandy: I remember going to Schwartz's back in the day. It was the go to place for swimsuits and bras. The salespeople were pretty old then probably the same ones that waited on you now. Your story made me laugh.
-
Molly, I'm so sorry you are miserable. Makes it really hard to enjoy the day. Take it easy for the rest of the weekend!
ChiSandy, sounds like an "interesting" dinner. 4 oz of wine is really not adequate - I agree. DId you pop open a bottle when you got home. Have to feel for the husband and son with wife/mother in hospice. That is truly hard. And I loved your story too about the bras!
JcLc, Sounds like you got all the chemo SEs at once. Poor girl! You did far too much for the big day. It's hard to not do it all, isn't it? I'm glad you were able to eat and that the food seemed to taste rather normal. Please rest up for the rest of the weekend.
If I do anything today it will be quite mundane. Dry the tablecloth, was a couple loads of clothes and read and stay close to the computer. My favorite winery is having a Black Friday sale this morning but the weather isn't very good and travelling an hour and a half to go there just doesn't appeal. It's the one we BCO meet at regularly.
Happy Post Thanksgiving. Time to find that book and put the feet up!

I managed not to do too much yesterday: spent Thanksgiving at DD's house, and DD made appetizers, brocolli/cheese soup, rolls, salad, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, roast sweet potatoes, gravy, roasted the turkey, and both apple and pumpkin pie with ice cream and whipped cream, and I made the stuffing and the cranberry sauce, with help from my grandkids. I had to convince DD we really didn't need string beans too! :-)
then the guys cleaned up and we relaxed. More time with the grandkids today, yay!
Hope all have a restful day today and enjoy lots of leftovers. Hugs to all of you!

Hello all! I am soo glad I found this site in my search for information and answers! Having lumpectomy and sentinel node removal December 1st and your posts have provided me with some relief about the procedure and what to expect. Happy belated thanksgiving to all the American women.

Welcome, Martini! We're glad you found us to but sorry you had to come here. We're warm, comforting, knowledgeable, and a bit zany at times. One thing we've discovered that there is no "one way" to do anything. Everyone's experience seems to be a bit different. I think I'm the only one who got Dramamine before my lx - also had no nausea afterwards. I took the Valium offered too. Never turn down Lidocaine - it is your friend. If they give you prescription for pain pills, fill it. You may not need them but if you do, you'll be glad you have them at hand. I also don't recall very many ladies mentioning heat hospital gowns - they are heavenly, especially since I'm always cold and it must have been 40°F in the center (well, maybe a slight exaggeration).
Make sure to allow yourself enough time to recuperate from the surgery. Even if you feel fantastic, your body is working overtime to heal from this major trauma of surgery.
Keep asking questions and we'll answer them.
HUGS!!

Welcome Martini, sorry you need to be here but glad you found your way to the lounge. I will add to Peggy' advice to have button down shirts and easy to pull on pants for the first few days post op . Since you might have a drain make sure someone besides you is present for post op instructions. Also ice packs are your best friend. They helped more than meds for me.
