I'm going home! I had a bad night with severe back pain, but it's much better today. Don't know if that is from the Neulasta, the hospital bed, or this huge storm front messing with my arthritis, but I have some Percocet if it gets really bad again.
-
YES!!!! I'm so glad, Poodles! Hope everything will feel oh so much better at home!
HUGS!!

Does anyone still have arm aches after lumpectomy? It's been almost 3 months since my lx. It's just a weird achy feeling that comes and goes, but no swelling. I'm seeing a lymphedema therapist Wednesday to find out what's going on.
-
Hello all. I got home from the hospital last evening (Monday), 24 hours after oncoplastic lumpectomy and SLNB. The surgeon said all went well with no surprises. He didn't have to do an additional incision for the nodes - said he got everything he needed from the lumpectomy site. Yay! I was surprised at how well I felt after the surgery as anesthesia and me generally don't get along well. I only needed tylenol through the iv for pain and didn't have much nausea. I thought I was sailing along, but the nausea hit with a vengeance the next morning. Otherwise I would have been home sooner. Got a good night's sleep at home, and now up bright and early starting to eat broth. Pretty sore, but tylenol does the trick.
Thanks for all your positive thoughts and prayers!
MLP - glad you are home too! I hope you feel much better.
-
Sloan, my underarm still tightens up if I don't stretch regularly (and this is after 15 months). Doesn't hurt but I notice it's tight. I don't swell either. Good idea to see the lymphedema therapist!
HUGS!

Mlp and keepwalking ....glad you are both home. Recovery is so much better with the comforts of home.
Sloan...I still have weird tingling/aching in my arm. Seems to be worse if I don't stretch or if I lift too much with that arm or sleep on that side. However, I did have stuff going on with the same arm before my lx.
-
Sloan I get a weird tightness once in awhile, and same things Nash said. My doctor said no signs of lymphedema yet, but that it can take up to two years for surgery issues to resolve.
-
Thanks. I'm just so worried, not to mention tired of all this!
I'm on day 7 of 33 rads. So far, so good.
Mustlovepoodles and keepwalking - I'm glad you're both feeling better and going home!

Hi All,
Well, My 6 month post op checkup is around the corner! I am healing nicely from radiation, and adjusting to life on tamoxifen. I was wondering when I should have my first post op mammogram? When I called to check on my appointment time, the receptionist told me I was just having an office visit...
It didn't sound right to me...
Thanks!
Midgie
-
Midgie, My first mammo will be in April at my usual yearly exam. I had my 6 month exam and all was great so she didn't feel the need for another mammo until then. I know every doc is different though.
-
Thanks, ORKnitter! Looks like we have similar dates, so I guess I'll just calm down
. My surgeon is a general surgeon, so she is doing my colonoscopy a week after the follow up, so we'll be seeing a lot of each other
-
Midgie, My first post-op mammogram was at my normal time in April - approximately 9 months after surgery. Then wait another year. Relax, they will be watching you!
HUGS!

Well the surgery is behnd me now. Not keeping anyhing down yet and there is a large incision on the breast and a large one under the arm. I am waiting for 11/3 fo post op to find out what all was done. They moved it up from 11/9 so the wait is shorter. He is telling me I have to keep things down or he will have to put me on IV. I am trying all crackers, breakfast drinks, etc. I have to keep my meds down to control my BP which is usually high but since the surgery its running low with a fast heart rate. I will check in again soon.
-
KeepWalking, glad you are doing so good! Just remember to take it easy and rest lots!
WaterStreet, dang that you can't keep anything down. I think the Dramamine they gave me prior to surgery helped a lot with that since I wasn't even nauseous. Possibly I was just lucky, too. Sorry your incisions are so large. I couldn't tell how large mine were until the binding came off. Since I had steri-strips, I could see then. I'm very glad you don't have to wait long for your 1st post-op visit. Hope your BP and heart rate normalize ASAP!
HUGS!!!

I got glued back to gether because of allery to adhesives. I could see it all right away. Kind of scary at first. Was not aware before hand that there would be such a large incision under the arm, before surgery he said about a half an inch.
-
WaterStreet, that explains it. My SNLB is about 1-1/2". About the same size as my lumpy. I don't recall anyone mentioning such a tiny SNLB here.
HUGS!
-
my axillary incision is big too. Waterstreet, sorry you are having problems with nausea.
-
How large was the incision? Please....
-
Mine is probably about an inch and half or so.
-
Hi everyone! I had a lumpectomy and SLNB last Thursday (the 22nd) and I was surprised at how much more of a nuisance the SLNB incision (about 2 inches) is. And the numbness under the arm is weird too.
-
the sentinel node part hurt more than everything else. Still gets aggravated 10 months later if I wear the wrong shirt
-
KVGross, I think you'll find that most of us think that SLNB site is most annoying. The numbness may take a year or so to go away. That's why you are REALLY careful when using a safety razor. I finally got most of my feeling back after a year. Still not quite the same as the non-SLNB arm.
HUGS!
-
ItalyChick, me too on the wrong shirt. I've had to give up on some favorites because they cause discomfort. I suspect that is going to last forever. Oh well, knowing the nodes were clear is worth it (most of the time
)
HUGS!
-
I had to switch to an electric razor because of my alnd incision.
-
How are you feeling, kvgross?
-
Molly, I totally resisted using an electric razor. Miraculously, I did NOT slice my underarm. I was very very careful. Now that I have some feeling it isn't much of an issue.
KVGross, doing better?
HUGS!!
-
Molly50, Thanks for asking. I'm feeling pretty good. My arm is still a little sore. Just anxious to hear from my BS about the final Pathology report, which is supposed to take 7 days and that's tomorrow. Guess we were hoping to hear sooner. Just want to keep moving on.
