I have a Boston terrier who was a rescue! She is the love of my life! Rescue dogs need that little extra tlc but they give a little more too!
-
I agree, only rescue dogs for me. I have never bought a dog. I have had strays, or rescue. They need us more, and I will not support puppy mills. I know there are legit breeder's out there, but I will stick with my rescue/stray animals. It's like they know you saved them. They are so loyal and happy to be save, warm, fed, and loved.

We are overcomers! Thank you so much for that video JBloom! Awesome. Going on my IPod
I would love to have a video with all of you....with your stories and your hardships and triumphs and good humor and inspiration and pictures. Would love to have faces and voices to go with your thoughts!
Christina and Kuka....happy birthdays!
Goldie...hang in there....not too much longer on the worry and wait, sister!
Marty....you are the best! Always love your strong support.
Anybody else I've missed....Hugs! -
A running group that I am in had a runner go down and pass away last week
I was not there that night, nor did I know the woman well, but the group is reeling from the loss and the experience. One of the members shared her thoughts in writing today and included this quote....
"That’s the thing about ‘what ifs’; they don’t matter. They don’t change anything. All they do is make it unable for you to heal."
—Lindy Zart
Amen. Pick up your squashed soul, blow some air into it and move on. -
Bailey, so sorry about the loss in your running group - must be hard to process. That is an awesome quote about 'what if'! I'm going to put it on my fridge where I can see it. Thank you for sharing it.
-
True words, Bailey.....thank you.
-
This thread moves at the speed of light!
PS: Bailey, LOVED the quote, and how true those words are......
JBloom......loved the video......posted it to my Facebook page......I have been very open about my DX/ BMX/ReCon........as I want to be a positive for other women who may find themselves in my position, so this is perfect! Thank you!
Still dealing with all the CARP that is stressing me out......but I DO see light at the end of the tunnel, so there's hope...........(then I can get back to stressing about BC!!!!!)
Blue.....I vote for the rescue! ManukaHoney if a girl.......Wilbur if a boy! Sending you lots of ((((hugs)))). You're an inspiration to all of us here.......soft on the outside, with an inner core of solid steel!
Kuka-happy birthday, kid! Seriously, you could be my daughter (oldest DD is 34)... No wonder you heal so fast! I think you should bottle up some of that and ship it out to us older "ladies of a certain age.......
I have to run, as I am dealing with the "stress" head on .......and want it resolved today......so I gotta run.
ALL of you are in my thoughts all day, every day........couldn't do this without your help!
XO -
"Pick up your squashed soul, blow some air into it, and move on."
I so love it.
Bailey, I'm so sorry for your loss. Even though the runner wasn't a close friend, it's a heartache.
-
Happy birthday, Kuka. Have a great day.
Bailey so sorry about your friend. Even though you were not close with the person, you were part of the same group and it is a loss for you and the entire group. -
Bailey, what a horrible story. Sympathies to all of you that knew the person, and their family. Love the quote.
-
Bailey, even though it wasn't a close friend I know it's still hard. Is a reminder of our ifs. As much as I don't want to admit it I still have ifs, even after DIEP, but I have less ifs now.
Thank you for all the nice birthday wishes. I might be young at age, but really, don't feel it! I'm taking advantage and told DH to pick up dinner tonight. I'm off for a day and not cooking dinner. Of course that means I have to convince my kids to wait for another hour before they can eat. Maybe we should start with cake? -
Kuka, my grandma used to say dessert first, that way there is always room for it!
Happy Birthday!

Well ladies...had my first "outing" experience today in a room full of strangers. It was the first session of my yogalates class, and the instructor started out with the "tell us why you're here, what your goals are, what physical issues I need to know.....yadayadayada...! I was the next to last one in the circle to "share" (didn't know a soul there) and was having an internal panic attack.... I started to list the "wonky knee, wonky wrist, wonky shoulders, wonky back...then thought "screw it" and rattled off the surgery. Several jaws dropped, and there was a distinct lack of chuckles and head nodding that had been there for the other ladies. I'm sure a few of them were checking out my "gloob" during class, and no one really said much to me after, except the instructor, who is very nice. Pfft....if Movie can do the Japanese hot bath....I can do the "clothed reveal"....now pass the wine....oops, have to wait till after the Red Cross meeting, but then I'm sooooooo having a glass tonight!!!!!!
-
kuka......my Grandma used to say, if you eat the "pointed end" last....you get to make a wish. I think it was her way of getting us to eat the piecrust!!!!....but she said it worked for cake too.

Yes Goldie I will be going to PRMA. Haven't seen the doc there yet, but have talked with him on the phone.
Waited a year to get on the insurance that would cover PRMA and then 8 more months as chemo damaged my heart.....
So excited that the wait is over...but now getting a little anxious!
-
Kimdy, it is normal to be anxious. It wouldn't be normal if you weren't. I believe you are going to a great place. I have only talked to one person who has been there. I really like their website, and the articles the docs post. And, the before and after pics are unbelievable. I know, they only post their best results, but it is impressive. I am sure you are going to have a great experience.
I am really sorry about your heart issues with chemo. Are they resolved, or is it on going? Please keep us posted on your results.
-
Nihahi, GOOD FOR YOU! Like you, I will not let breast cancer make me ashamed of what I've been through. We are soldiers who have faced the enemy and emerged from the battlefield with scars, but victorious. And you don't know who was in your yoga class who needed to hear what you've been through. Proud of you, girl.
I saw my PS this afternoon to show him the un-healing spot under one of my noobs. He was OK with it. "The sutures are dissolving before the skin has fully healed, just keep ointment and gauze on it until it closes up," he said. Well, my ointment will be Manuka honey once Amazon delivers it, so I'll let you know.
Kimdy, I have a list somewhere of what to pack. I'll find it and post it for you.
-
Well, that was fast!
Here's what you definitely need to bring to the hospital:
chapstick, brush/comb, facial moisturizer, toothbrush/paste, slippers, double-walled tall beverage container (for ice water, which will be your best friend for a while), small bottle of your own shampoo (in case they let you shower or wash your hair in a sink), reading glasses if you need them
Here's what you might want to bring. The hospital can supply some of it if you don't want to use your own:
nightgown or jamies, robe, facial wipes (a hospital washcloth will do, though) small make-up kit if you think you'd enjoy using it, headband or scarf for your hair, cell phone/charger
Here's what you SHOULD NOT bring to the hospital:
jewelry (anything at all), wallet, credit cards, anything you'd be heartbroken if it went missing, stacks of books or magazines (you won't feel like reading them)
Also...anything you take to the hospital should be thoroughly laundered or wiped down when you get home. Hospitals can be good places to pick up bacteria.
Did I miss anything, everybody? Katy

anybody up for a sidesplitting laugh!!!!
MAN LEAVES BEST VOICEMAIL EVER AFTER WITNESSING CAR ACCIDENT
-
kuka - happy belated birthday
bailey - so sorry for your loss. Sounds like it was a terrible shock for you and the group.
kimdy - good luck on your surgery!
I hope those who are recovering are healing well and comfortably, and those who are waiting, are not too anxious over the wait.
-
Lol I really shouldn't laugh because I feel my incisions pull!!
Happy Birthday ladies!!
Question: will PS take care of hair growing on my flaps? Cause I feel them growing!!!!!!! -
Kimdy-- I'm a PRMA girl. You are in very good hands. Dr Chrysopoulo is my surgeon and I could not be happier with the results at this time and I'm not yet finished.
I had BMX with immediate DIEP on 3/4/13 and next Monday I'll have the 2nd phase revision surgery, then tattoos in Dec. Dr C has done a superb job and the PRMA office staff are great, very easy to deal with.
-
Yes, I had laser hair removal on my flap at the dr. office.
-
Happy birthday Kuka!
Bailey- So sorry for the loss of your friend.
Nahahi- I will have to look that up, I just assumed it was fat necrosis because that is what the ps called it. It isnt hurting today but I havent been as active as I normally am.
I got my first cut and color today since before chemo. It is amazing how much better I feel! -
I drove this evening for the first time since original surgery on July 29th. It was not very comfortable at all. It's good to know I can do short distance if necessary but not something I want to do all the time until this is healed up!
-
That's right Iron, it was you that went to PRMA. I couldn't remember. So glad you can reassure Kimby.
Tracy, hair on foobs is a common problem. You PS will probably be right on top of that.
Nihani, you need to let a yoga instructor know what's going on with you so he/she can help you figure out how to ease back into certain poses. No shame in that, for sure. As for the rest of the class, shame on them for not saying anything to you after the session was over. I was telling a friend yesterday, there is no easy way to tell somebody you have breast cancer, or any kind of cancer, because people don't know what to say. They are afraid they might say the wrong thing, so they say nothing at all.
-
Sherry, was felt uncomfortable? Your tummy? Glad you are getting out there a little at a time. Baby steps. You've come a long way baby!
-
Sherry - if you have some thin foam (1"), put it between your body and the seat and shoulder belts. Really makes you feel better about driving and keeping your wounds safer. Glad you tried driving just so you know you can.
-
Sherry- Congrats on driving, that is a huge milestone! I used a pillow between my body and the seatbelt for a long time, even riding as a passenger. I still feel a little uncomftable driving when I have to turn to look behind me because my body doesnt want to move the way I need it to.
-
Nihahi,
I saw that video last week when I had a bad cough, was laughing, gasping, coughin all at the same time with tears running down my face. It takes a lot to make me laugh, this was great!
