Scottiie, cheese are my favourite but open to any new fillings just not Moose !
Know it is a really silly question but see you live in Toronto ? know it is probably huge city but have you ever met anyone with the surname Ryder ?
See you at the pocket club tomorrow xLuvmy, Great news about mammogram yesterday !!
Hope Benny not in hospital again, but at least she will be getting looked after.
Great advice for 65 too xLiefie, Mooseballs, goodness gracious me ! Various things eaten in other countries amaze me.
They say the Chinese eat anything with wings but an aeroplane. Anything with legs but a table. So Mooseballs pretty normal. lol xSo sleepy night night x
-
Hi, sorry for absence, have been spending the day rinsing mouth/throat with multiple things but the thrush appears to be almost gone. I have eaten two batches of potatoes, one with peas and milk, and so far so good. Tried to get some sleep. Got a Glucerna in and so far okay. Drinking lots of water. My throat is really dry at the back and it's making me nervous that I'm coming down with something. Ev was here yesterday from our long term care centre... did she bring a bug or something with her? Please no. I am still weak but managed to get more potatoes peeled and I'm looking at cutting back on codeine to help my poor old digestion. I feel a bit panicky because my throat is dry and uncomfortable but it could just be the codeine cutback that's making me feel this way too. Throat looks okay but mildly sore. Today is day 7 and last time I started plummeting at day 9 so I am wary of that. I know, don't court trouble! Going to have a shower and see if that helps the dryness.
Luvmygoats! Great news on the mammo!!!!!!!
I am behind in my reading again..... will try to read tonight.
-
Yeah Benny. Positive thoughts on fleet hooves to you.
Your house probably is very dry from the heat. A little steam should help. I woke up with sore throat this morning but think it was from snoring. Did your friend get to send you pics of Diamond? Glad you got your med schedule all written out. You have a gameplan in place. You need to do a public service promo on the white potato's benefits.Edi - I think Liefie is making moosemeat meatballs. I misread and thought she was making moose you-know-what's. Remember I am a Texan though I have never seen nor eaten a moutain oyster. That's one for you to look up.
-
Yay, Benny! So good to hear from you! It seems you have things under control, and taking good care of yourself. I am genuinely relieved that you are back, and glad the thrush is gone. Keep up the good work, keep calm and carry on, in the words of Luvmygoats.
Edi, mooseballs is meatballs made from moose meat, just in case you think I'm cooking unmentionable bodyparts for dinner - LOL. Sorry, I just couldn't resist that temptation!
-
Good to hear from you Bennymuffin.....sounds like you are making small improvements here. Start upping your glucerna a bit now to get more nutrition into you. How about a little yoghurt with honey ......honey is a natural antibacterial food, if you are .worried about having picked up any bugs . Do you have any garlic supplements at home?
-
Benny, Well done ! baby steps, keep up the nourishment. x
Luvmy, didn't need to look them up ! one of my Dad's favourite suppers eeewww. We call them sweetbreads here
As a child I was fascinated with the special supper just for him.
So glad he never felt the need to share lol.xLiefie, know you are too much of a lady to cook anythings unmentionables.
Thus speaks a scouser reared on tripe, pigs trotters, roasted cows hearts, liver and kidney.
My kids are horrified when DH regails them with tales of our meals as children. He came from family of nine children in the poorest part of Liverpool and things like that were all that could be afforded. xnight night again x
-
Edi, this is just for you. Mooseballs are cooked and ready, and looking good. Now what to serve with it? Sweet potato and cauliflower, I think, with a green salad. I hear you about our parents being so poor growing up. Same here. My dad loved it when my mom cooked him a sheep's head in the oven. She would wrap it in tinfoil, and bake it at a low heat for hours until it was succulent and tasty. I still see him sitting at the kitchen table working on the head with his pocket knife, and relishing every bite. I used to love the soft cheek parts . . . Okay, I'll stop now. Don't want to freak you out any more. Good night!
-
Mooseballs...hmmm I'm not going to ask for the recipe on that one liefie..lol.....bad enough I use to see my nanna cook fish head soup...eew, my hubby went fishing and made me cook a snapper with its eyes and all....oh yuk...I couldn't stomach it...just looking at it, let alone your mum cooked a sheeps head in the oven.....

Luvmy, congrats, good news on the mammo

Benny is getting there again whoo hoo girl....good to here your getting back on top of it all - true warrior

Bevlee, good to hear from you fellow Aussie, great Avatar .
Hows the weather up there, 37 degrees here in MEL tomorrow and today is not too bad either !!Well i have mild lymphedema, was given excercises to do so DS whos 3 and I do them together, lol....hand slowly going down thank goodness, its all about the breathing through the stomach and moving around the lymphnodes to get them pumping the fluid to where it should be going....

Hoping you all have a good sleep /day / arvo !!
-
Traii how cute is that your DS helping his mama with her arm exercises. So sweet. I would not want my dinner looking at me.
I am sitting here laughing at the food talk.... Edi the dinners you and your DH grew up on, sorry, but am I ever glad I grew up with my mom and dad...lol..the worst thing they served was liver and onions and I think my dad ate everyone's share. My DH grew up with 11 kids and he has stories too. Liefie I bet the moose balls were delicious and the best thing no antibiotics in game. We had spaghetti the other night made from elk meat. My DH is not a hunter, my DD father in law sold us 1/2 a elk....best meat I have ever eaten.
Benny sounds like things are under control. I hope your not coming down with anything. Now that you are done with chemo you can get your body on the mend. I am sure the cancer had its a** kicked..will you be heading to radiation in a month? I just want you to know Benny if you do rads it is very easy and fast.
I have 2 rads left....done Thursday. It has gone way better than I thought, I had imagined my skin sloffing off, but that didn't happen I feel very lucky. I haven't worn a bra since Jan 3, I never go bra less....but I didn't want to cause any extra irritation with my skin. I have been wearing men's small white undershirts under my shirts.....and moisturizing and saline soaks 2 x a day.
Luvmygoats congrats..
Everyone stay safe, looks cold in Alberta, and hot in Australia, and Edi hope your snow is all gone now! -
Liefie, know some of those meals sound gross but they were eaten with such relish and my DH still mutters on about how tasty some of them were.
What is so ironic is that now things like bacon ribs, that were staple diet of poorer families now cost a fortune.
Sheep's head, never had that one but did see them in Butchers window's.Must admit that I do love tongue and tomato sandwiches even now and that too cost's a bomb lol.
Your dinner does sound yummy
xTraii, So glad you have arm on the mend. DS exercising with you is so cute. When ED gets on her cross trainer GD shoves her off for her turn and is brilliant on it.
Been awake since 4am
could scream now glugging down tea and can hear road drill from down here. lol xBearcub, Liver and onions is one of my favourites, when I was in hospital having ED they gave us this for our evening meal. Think I was the only one who ate it !
Nice thought that no antibiotics in some meat, bit scarey thinking of what is in our food sometimes. We have cut back on meat a lot lately and enjoying more and more veg based recipes.
Last 2 rads, how wonderful. Hope I cope as well as you.
Just looked out of the window and hardly any snow left around here. xCatch up with you all later. Almost three weeks since last chemo and can feel symptoms lifting more and more each day. Benny it will soon be gone ,and you will be mending again.
-
Edi (aka) Queen of the Nile.......Whatcha doing up at this time! Oh, I just got it.....snoring hubby. Anyway, hope you can get some sleep eventually. I LOVE liver and onions....am never, never going to do mooseballs, tripe, tongue or rocky mountain oysters!!!!!! Sounds like many of us had parents who grew up in tough times, (depression and world wars) but in a strange way, I think they were often happier, and closer to families and friends.
I just popped on here to catch up before heading to bed. Thanks to everyone jumping in the pockets tomorrow. What...no one is bringing chocolate! My hubby gave me a very strange look when I told him I wasn't sure my pants had big enough pockets!
Love you all.
-
Moose ball report: They were good, but I actually used a recipe today which I don't normally do - after all these years I don't need it. For some reason they did not taste as good. Recipe called for dried thyme which I don't put in otherwise, so will not put that in again. Should have stuck with what I know. Oh well, we will just have to grin and bear it, because there is about 12 left over. Perhaps I can make it better with a strong curry sauce? May feed some to the dog. He will think it's Christmas!
Nihahi, let us now how you are tomorrow!
Have a good night, everybody.
-
Nihahi,.....good luck, lol at your husband giving you a strange look re pockets !! Ok Ok, I'll bring the chocolates ladies !!!! ( I guess its better to share then eat it all on my own !!) lol
Well we may have recon around the same time......hope the type you want is approved hun xx
Bearcub, you must be ssooooooo excited, Thursday's the big day for you...no more rads....whoo hooo....let the count down begin

Lifie, I know what you mean, well not about the Moose Balls, but I've made things and thought, hmmm I'll check on recipes and add something different for a change, only to be disappointed.....damn that Thyme.....I'm sure your dog would love another Christmas ... lol.....
Benny, how you doing this evening ?
Websister, hope you relaxing and got to see your mum today x
Dakota , whats going on girl ? still running around or are you relaxing at home with your two bundles of joy ?
Edi, good luck with the loo and bath shopping.... xx have you posted the pic of your GD cake or did I miss it ??m
Luvmy, keeping cool ... for this evening .. tomorrow going to be too hot !! arms getting there, pains not as bad after doing those excercises..... (knock on wood) it continues, but heat not good either I've been told !!
65, welcome....

-

Big hugs 😍😍😍 -
Morning Ladies,
Do you have a recon date Traii? Hope you get the "what and when" that you want too! Yes, heat would definitely make the lympadema worse, so it's great to hear that you've gotten a plan to help keep it under control. Snowing here this morning, so I'll blow some cold your way. Temp is -14, with a windchill of -22. Your little guy sounds precious.
Bearcub...have you got a celebration planned? Think of some wonderfully fun things do to, with all that new free time that is almost yours! So glad it's gone well for you.
Ok, I admit, when I read the phrase "grin and bear it" I thought no..........not BEARBALLS next!! Given some of the other entrees that have been posted, I wouldn't be overly surprised.
Hey Carla, did you get some help for the headaches???????
Luvmy...hooray for the mammo result! Celebrate ok?
Hope...your message was spot on for Benny, hope she keyed in on the "it does get better" report.
Edi, hope the "road drill" shut down and you were able to get some sleep.
Hope, Benny....how are things going today?
I'll send an update after the consult this morning.
-
Dakota - we must have passed each other in cyberspace. Sorry to hear you've got colds in your house. Crazy that you had to go into work because of "no sick days"...sure wish you had a more understanding boss. Hope you feel better soon (((((x))))))
-
I know. Unfortunately I used all of my sick and vacation time when I had my surgery so I don't get paid when I have to go to chemo. Seems backwards to me. I am trying to work and feel good but get punished for doing that. Oh well only 2 treatments left!!! Found out yesterday that I don't have to do rads. And my exchange is scheduled for 4/12/13!!! Yay. Finally some good news !!
-
Nihahi - in those pockets. Still having huge hot flashes with the tamoxifen so if Traii is bringing chocolate I'll have to add some marshmallows and graham crackers so we can make s'mores when one of the flashes hit

Dakota - hope your cold doesn't get any worse, take good care ((()))
Edi - bathroom sounds like it will be beautiful, hope DH's wallet recovers quickly.
Bevlee - good to hear from you
Carlads - are you feeling better?
Caitlin - how are you?
Benny - got your email, hope yesterday continued to go well for you
65 - add my welcome
Saw my Mom yesterday, she is doing well. Have some equipment to organize for her for when she goes back to lodge.
Also have some things to organize for my own work for when I return, due end of January so keeping busy.
Take care everyone -
Dakota....yes, rules about sicktime, and reality of being sick do not work well together. Glad to hear you have gotten some good news though, about tx and sx. Sounds like there will be a few of us in the OR in the coming months. We can all "whine" together on the bad days, and cyber high 5 on the good ones. There will be more good than bad, RIGHT!
Websister...gee sounds like you're heading back to work kinda fast, but you seem like a person who likes to be busy. Hope your energy levels are up to the task!
Caitlin...hope you are continuing to heal.
65...thinking of you. Another day (and night) of waiting is now behind you.
-
Nihahi it is a longer wait time but mainly my doing. I wanted a certain surgeon , had an appointment within a weeks' time.
The problem was 2 weeks of vacation scheduled for middle of Feb.
The Best she could do was Feb.27TH.
Second guessing myself now ????
I have found the Canadian Connection and yes they are a great group of strong informative Ladies.
I appreciate all the ladies who have taken time to post to me .
I do realize our medical system differs from other countries, thankful for what we Have.
Go for pre-opt tests Feb. 1ST, and so it begins.
Thank You all for sharing & giving me some useful advice.

Nihahi - actually, I had planned with my oncologist that I would return beginning to mid-April, she is saying mid-April. My case manager for the Long Term Disability contacted me last week and 'chatted'. I updated her on my oncologist appointment and continued treatments and plans. She was very friendly and said we would continue to be 'in touch'. On Monday I received a letter from the insurance company signed by her that said they deemed me capable of returning to work effective Feb. 1. I have been making calls, etc. to ensure that I can continue with the plans we had for the April date, my oncologist is fully on board, had a productive morning on the phone this a.m. Oncologists office will fax letter and documentation to support planned April return. I know there are many incredible ladies on this forum that have continued to work through treatment but my manager and my oncologist wanted me to take the time off. I have worked for the health region for 33 plus years and this is the first time I have used the Long Term Disability and I have only been on it for three months, the other time off was all sick time that I used.
My job is very stressful and involves long hours, travelling all over the health region, organizing and facilitating meetings with directors/managers of various sites/units/clinics, etc. I want to be up to it before I go back and I am just beginning to feel that I have the energy to tackle some of the things around home and in my personal life that need to be attended to.
I feel sorry for people who are treated this way and don't know that they have avenues to push back against the insurance company.
BTW - You'll want to wash those pockets when you get home from your appointment today

-
Great news no rads Dakota! 2 treatments left
whens your finish date? Mines my bday 12march..happy bday to me:)
Bummer re no sick days or vacation left...that sux your boss wont give you paid leave:(
I started part time work last may. Dx in August and my boss came up to me and said that he will give me half my daily wage when i call in sick from chemo....i nearly fell over when he told me that....how generous of him! Guess I found a good boss cos he knows what chemos like as his mum just finished chemo for lung cancer!
Nihahi no recon date yet looking at april or may. Will find out at next appt 21st feb !! Maybe u me and dakota will be april recon/exchange girls together...lol. -
-

Edi-
The cake came out great!!!! -
Hi, finally had a minute to sit down nd read and post.
Another fun packed day bathroom buying, who knew sink, toilet and bath could be sooo difficult.
All being delivered day after tomorrow and work starting Monday
DH fast asleep in front of tv, all this spending money wears him out ! No road drill noises at the moment he saves that for through the night
Nihahi, I dozed off on the sofa down here last night in the end.
You are correct about despite the hardships our parents were happier and despite the weird diets seemed healthier too.
My DH looks at me strangely too when I mention the pocket club, they have no imagination.
Bear balls ! love it lol.Liefie, changing recipes is usually a disaster I have found too. Hope your doggie enjoyed the result.
Dakota, My nose dripping like a tap too. No hairs up there to catch the flow either.
Hope you feel better quickly, your boss sounds like a nice human being ( not ) is he related to your not better half by any chance ?
You stick to foods you know, some of these weird and wonderful ones are a definite no no .
No Rads, fantastic news, getting nearer the end of your journey by the minute. Well done our little fuel gatherer.
Sorry to appear dense, what is exchange ?Websister, hope your se's easing some.
DH wallet is drying out on the hearth from all the tears shed.
Lovely news that Mum is improving.
You just spoil yourself for once.Caitlin, hope you are ok ?
Benny, you too.
65, you are sounding stronger by the day, well done.
Traii, your boss sounds like mine, there are some good ones out there but few and far between.
Nihahi,Dakota and you the Three Muskateers of on the next adventure.Going to have another go at pics, be prepared to be bored stiff lol.
Lovsya all x
-
-
Edi-
So glad the bathroom stuff is done. It's crazy about the nose hair thing no one thinks of that!! I have saline implants now. The exchange is for silicone. My PS doesn't put those in right away. So next step is the exchange and then in 3 months after that nipples sorry if TMI. I was not a candidate for nipple sparing as I had a reduction 8 years ago.
Ur picture is adorable !!!! U cute thing u!!! -
Dakota, Thanks, that was taken when we went away to Blackpool just before xmas. That is the short wig.
Now I understand exchange ! Wow you brave thing. Will you be out of action for a while or is it pretty straight forward ?
Not TMI at all, just being curious.
Are nipples tattoed on, or your own made from your own tissue ? x
