I have tried to respond twice before and my screen froze - I am hoping third time lucky!
Adagio - you have had quite a year - hope you get that well deserved break!
Edi - fingers crossed for bloodwork, stay warm!
Nihahi - thanks so much for the advice - I have asked for a copy of the MRI, no response to that but I will keep asking if I don't get one. My physio is going to see if she can speak to the doctor also so hopefully she is able to and I will have more info from that. Re: pain - not really less painful - more areas
In a 3 day course right now - today was hard slugging - stats and graphs
not my forte, hopefully tomorrow will be better - we move on to acting on the measurements and statistics we have gathered. Not sure what I got myself into, the person on my team that signed us up couldn't do the course and no one else was able to either but me - 5 days total for course, one project due in a few months and reviewed by a panel and one exam to take for certification - I am seriously too old for this! -
Really hard to give you helpful advice Laura, when we don't know what is injured, or how badly. Is it a sprain? If so what ligament/s, and what grade? Maybe there is a fracture that was missed. The foot/ankle is a complex system of bones and joints, and easily disrupted.
Hopefully the MRI has shed some light on what is wrong. Personally I'd be surprised if just wearing the cast for another five weeks will make a big difference after all this time.
I would think you need to see an orthopedic surgeon or sports injury doctor who is specialized in this region. Last week I was at a very interesting talk by Dr Iain Russell who is just such an orthopod in Calgary. I have heard that WCB refer to him quite a lot for foot and ankle injuries.
So sorry you have this crap to deal with. Funny, you'd think that having breast cancer might be enough for most people!!!
-
thanks for the info, Mo, especially Dr. Russell's name

Today is what I count as my cancerfreeversary.......23 years ago today I had my mx. I so wish all you amazing ladies had been there at the beginning for me, but am also incredibly grateful to have eventually found you. I send hugs and hope to everyone. Have an awesome day...(((((X))))
-
Hi 😎,
Nihahi, happy cancerfreeversary 😀 🎉 what an amazing journey you have had.!! So proud of you, you are my inspiration. How you coped all those years ago when I know support was non existent is in itself a miracle.
We have you now and are so glad xx
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, love to all xx
-
nihahi, 23 years! How awesome is that?!?
-
nihahi - you are a great inspiration to all of us. Celebrate with gratitude and joy. Thanks for sharing with us.
-
Hi everyone,
Wow, Nihahi..congratulations and a big thank you for all the inspiration you give to us.
I am mostly trying to take care of my shoulder. I do my home PT daily and go to PT twice a week. It is another week where a bunch of doctor appointments are on the calendar. It seems that it is going to be a long road before I get my full range of motion back in my shoulder. If I had a full time job, I would really be in a difficult situation. Today I got post chemo haircut #2. I like the curls now that there is enough length to get a proper style cut.
It feels good to almost be a year out of chemo…will be even better with a healed shoulder. I , of course have projects upstairs that I want to work on.
There is a horrible storm coming through Alaska…It is bringing cold temperatures to us here in the South. I am sure things are COLD in Canada. Please stay safe and warm.
Edi…take care of those skinny jeans! I kinda out grew mine, but I am determined to get back to them when my body heals.
Websister… wish I could send a magic ortho fix to you.
Adagio….now you have 2 daughters who can fix the holiday dishes! I declared no more Turkey Day in our house, so DD is cooking and invited us to join her and her DH. I might bake the pumpkin pie. But I will not be doing the turkey

Best wishes to all…((HUGS))

Momof2 - good to read your update, sounds like good progress with your shoulder - smart re: Holiday preparations decision - I am doing the same this year - I will sit back and enjoy the grandkids

Take care everyone

Well, I am back from my physical with PCP. Glad that is over! It is always something…first I have uncontrolled HBP and I have to take 3 BP pills…now my cholesterol and VLDLs are high! If it was carbohydrates I can understand but my only fats are from tuna, chicken, and wild salmon. ARGH! I am blaming arimidex!! I just cannot be pleased with my weight or cholesterol…I could be blessed with enough money, never would be happy with my body. I want my ARM back…LOL
Enough pity…get out there and have a great day…((HUGS))

momof2 - sending big hugs your way!!!!

ok ladies went to my OB/GYN and he did an ultrasound thickening of my uterus. Have to have a hysteroscopy next month. Any thoughts?? Go
Miss u all !!!!! Muah muah muah !! -
Aw, Jenifer - no fun!!!! Hope all gets sorted soon and you get your arm back. Rant away!
I want my foot back! I tried to get more info from the WCB physician re: aircast for five more weeks - they said that due to the nature of the assessment (WCB) they cannot provide more information and WCB is not coming forward with the info either. I thought I could take the Aircast off at night but was informed on Monday that I am to wear it 24/7. Hope it does the trick - December 2nd can't come soon enough - toes are getting cold in this weather - and wet
Wambles - haven't heard from you in a while - Hope all is well?
Take care everyone
-
Darn it Websister! I do feel your frustration re the foot!!!

I finally have what appears to be a concrete date for my recon! Jan 6!!!
I am to meet with my new breast surgeon on Dec 5 to discuss my PMx. Gulp!
Don't know whether to feel excited or terrified ... or a curious combination of all sorts of emotions. I'm quite looking forward to the time off work, which is being more than the usual pita just recently. I know, the lengths some people will go to ..... !!
Had a sudden worry that I missed our girls get together ..... had to check, but its next week, right??
Meanwhile, my shoulder is really giving me grief on my Mx side. It had been grumbling for a bit, then spending 45 mins prone in the MRI machine with my arms above my head has really done a number on it! I thought it was a little better this week, until I tried to do some chest physio on a patient, and found I couldn't put any real pressure with my left arm, and it hurt like billyo after that!
Maybe I need to see a physiotherapist myself!!
OK grumbles over. Just wanted to share re my recon, and its not something I really wanted to Facebook!

-
Congrats on getting "the" date, Mo. I think having a combination of terror and excitement puts you right smack in the NORMAL for pre-flap surgery! Probably a really good time for you to connect with the Diep thread if you haven't already done so. I'm here too, for ANYTHING...don't forget. Shoulder issues and MX....seem to be a common thing. I had lots and lots and lots of shoulder issues pre and post flap....now things are pretty darn good, so don't give up hope. Physio for the physio sounds like a good plan, though!
Websister....can't imagine truckin around in this weather in an aircast. WCB sounds like a nightmare to navigate or direct, and I have no advice on how to sort things out. I just don't understand why they won't more fully discuss your case management with you???????
The lunch meetup is next Wednesday. You haven't missed it
-
Dakota...sorry....missed seeing your post yesterday. I have no thoughts or advice, but sending hugs....MWAH right back at you!
-
Dakota, ugh, if it ain't one thing it's another, huh? Are you on tamoxifen? It's rather known for causing stuff like that.
-
Jennie -
Yes I am. I have been on it for 1 1/2 years. I had heard it could cause it but what is the treatment ?
-
Dakota, I missed your post too! How odd!!
My sister in law had a hysterectomy/oophrectomy right after she finished her chemo, pretty much. I think she is on hormonal anticancers too, but not sure if it's Tamoxifen .....
Not on any of that stuff myself. Hope it goes well for you and you get some answers!
-
dakota - the hysteroscopy is just a scope look into the uterus, they may also do a few biopsies if they felt there was any tissue that looked different. As others have said, with Tamoxifen the uterine lining can thicken and there is an increased risk of uterine cancer so they are pretty vigilant in watching for any change and would want to check it out. Mwah!
Morwenna - wow, January 6th eh? I understand your feelings, I keep re-examining whether I want to go through with it all, it is a big step, so far I haven't had to go further than being on the waitlist - not sure how I will feel when I get the call but yes, what we don't do to get some time off work
Take good care, sending hugs. I look forward to meeting with the Calgary ladies next week, wish we could all mee
-
Dakota, sorry to hear about the uterus thing. Better to have it checked, and hopefully it is nothing serious. The joys of Tamoxifen, eh? I'm on it too, but had had a complete hysterectomy before, so no more uterus trouble. Hugs to you!
Websister, you are one long-suffering, patient person, really. May you get answers sooner rather than later. Can't be pleasant at all.
Mo and Websister, I felt exactly the same about the DIEP flap surgery, and took months to decide because I was just so tired of being a patient, and it is a long surgery. Today I am so grateful I had it done. It was absolutely the right thing for me to do.
Jenifer, sorry to hear about your ongoing health issues. I hear you on the weight - for me it has become such a struggle. I need to lose some pounds, but just can't seem to be able to. Oh well, it is what it is.
-
Hi Dakota: I had the same problem. After 9 months on tamoxifen I developed an enlarged uterus, a 10mm thickening of the endometrial lining, a 1.6 cm fibroid and a 2 cm ovarian cyst - ALL from the tamoxifen. I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago today, had it lapascopic 1 incision in belly button, 2 tiny incisions in abdomen and then take it all out thru vagina. Only missed work for 7 days - amazing - best decision I made - now I don't have to worry anymore about uterin or ovarian cancer.
-
thanks for the input !!! My lining is at 5cm right now not sure of any cysts yet ..... Will know more dec 19

Hi All,
I have been reading but not posting. Really getting tired of this sling and inability to do the things I want. Went to the ortho doc and he said I need 2 more weeks in this sling and months more of PT.
Dakota…I hear you about SE. I am on the other AI, arimidex and the side effects are just ridiculous. I am on an additional 5 drugs just for side effects of that one drug. Looks like I will be headed toward statins unless I change to a vegan diet.
The arctic cold has reached us. I had to put the flannel sheets on the bed. I was going to have the bedrooms carpets replaced, but after the estimate, I decided to try having them cleaned. Therefore, each evening DH has to help me clean out the closets and remove clutter for them to do the cleaning. For some reason I find it hard to donate some things, but I just close my eyes and DH loads the items in the car for the thrift store. It really feels better to make an effort to reduce "stuff". Now if I can keep the closets and drawers clear I will be much happier.
DD invited us to Charleston for Thanksgiving. So we will be going to South Carolina next week. It will be nice to see her, DSIL, and his parents. I enjoy the holiday as long as someone else is cooking that turkey.
Edi I thought of you last night as I was trying to clear the stuff I had collected for DD's wedding. I must have 8 pedestal cake stands that would be perfect for one of your cakes. Wish you were closer, I would ship them to you.
Liefie, little Emily will be having her first Christmas. I know there is no way she is going to be spoiled. Please consider sending us some pictures of her beautiful face.
Adagio, Hope all is good with your family…and would still love to see the wedding pictures.
Websister…".bless your heart" I wish you relief with your ankle. I am at a loss as to what to suggest. But I do know that I would not be a nice and polite patient, if I were dealing with what you have endured.
Mowenna, Nihahi hope you are doing well and staying warm. Gosh, those warm summer months were short!
So I am going back to my clearing of the closets. Let us all have a good week. ((HUGS))

Hi Bennymuffins,
I am stage IV and i just came across your post. I am so sorry you are here where no one really wants to be but are. Your fear is completely validated. I just want to tell you that cancer nowadays is not necesseraly a death sentence. Sciences have advanced very much in the last decade and treatments are better. I understand your fear and frustration specially when you live healthy and do everything right. Unfortunately, cancer does not differentiate between healthy or not, there are many factors when it comes to it a lot of which make no sense. From what i understood is that you had no lumps, this sounds like you have ILC , which stands for invasive lobular carcinoma. It is known not to cause lumps. This is only my guess, of course after the do the pathology report you will have all the details. Cry, scream, yell do not let anything inside, it will help you to calm down and get a clearer picture. It is not one you would have hoped for yourself but it will help to be ready to fight , survive and thrive with cancer. May you one day look back and see it as a bad dream. Good luck to you and wishes from the heart that you will go into remission for a long long time. My prayers and the prayers of all these wonderful ladies on this board are with you.

Hi 😎,
Thinking of you all always.
Momof, gosh you must be so frustrated with the sling 😬 I am also sorting closets and drawers , hate it but do feel better when its done 😀.
Websister, do hope you are sorted out and pain free very soon.
Dakota, hope your results are good ((( hugs ))) only good thing with TN is we don't get any of these drugs so no side effects just wish they could give us all a drug to take away the worry and sleepless nights.
Times of joy with our families on the way 😀 shops getting bit frantic already here.
Stay well and happy everyone. X

Greetings All,
Please do not let this thread go dormant. Today after 8 weeks I was allowed to discontinue my sling. YAY! I still cannot lift anything with my right arm but it is so nice not having my right arm strapped to my body.
Dh and I went to DD for Thanksgiving and it was very nice not to have to cook. Her mother in law made the most decadent pecan pie cobbler. It was one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. I dare not try to make it unless I have a large group of people who will be willing to eat it. DD is settling into married life…seems to fit her well. They have bought some new pieces of furniture and seem be having fun decorating their home together. I am very happy for them. I got to see my grand doggies, and I spoiled them with turkey scraps.
Before Thanksgiving I succeeded in decluttering 3 bedrooms ! It feels a lot lighter in the house. Now that my arm is of some use, I am going to try to do a little sewing this week. I would like to have some time to enjoy my hobbies before another health issue comes around. I really do hope this next year can be free of CA scares.
Websister, have you had any success in the treatment of your ankle? Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Would love to hear the news from everyone. Your stories do go well with my morning coffee. OH, it is so nice to be able to taste my coffee…this time last year I lost my taste buds. And guess what!..It is time for another haircut!
It is midnight and the arimidex is keeping me awake. So I will surf around the internet and hopefully get sleepy soon.
Take care and love to all.
Jenifer

- Jenifer, great news re sling 😀 you have been so patient. Life is definitely improving and can empathise with the taste buds.
- Getting bit chilly here but we shouldn't complain as still better than weather over the pond.
- Finally had blood results and need B12 injections.Having six over next two weeks then one every three months.Hopefully energy levels will rise and afternoon naps be a thing of the past.
- Our youngest daughter won a break in a spa hotel and gave it to me and DH !
- Went last weekend and such luxury in beautiful countryside.
- Hope everyone is well and happy x
