Morning sistas,
Been raining and raining here for the last four days. Can't really get out for a walk or be outside much. Fortunately between massaging my tummy scar and doing the physio exercises I almost get enough exercise - NOT. Sun is supposed to come back this weekend, and then stay indefinitely - summer at last. Kids here for a visit next week, so will postpone gym till the week after. Will get enough exercise cooking for everybody - lol.
Websister, congrats on the birth of that precious little girl - you must be one proud grandma!
Edi, your bread recipe should arrive shortly. So glad that you have summer, and good weather. Sunshine is so good for our spirits, eh? Can't wait to hear about your volunteering adventures - they are sooooo lucky to have you! Those energy levels do seem to fluctuate. Last night DH wanted to show me one bean - lol - that has come up in the veggie garden, which involved going down some stairs. Back in the house afterwards I was really winded for a while, and my heart was pounding. Wow. Two steps forward, and three steps back.
Nihahi, yes, those physio exercises are ouchy, but if I ever want to be able to stretch my left arm over my head, or lie with my left hand under my head without discomfort, I will have to persevere and push through the pain to get there. Amazing how we take all these things for granted until we're not able to do it anymore. If I can survive chemo, I can survive this - my new mantra in life.
Traii, thanks for updating us on Websister - she is probably way too excited/busy with baby stuff to come on here. Are you packing for hospital yet? One thing to remember is to have a pillow(s) in the car for when you go home. You will defo want to protect those sore boobs from the seatbelt.
Caitlin, glad to hear your surgery went well. Rads are flying by too. Before you know it, you will be done! Your DH sounds like a keeper tending to you so faithfully. You are basically still on honeymoon, girl! What a thing to go through when you are so newly married, eh?
Dakota, prince Charming is lurking out there. When you least expect it, he will strike - LOL. First have to get cockroach out of the way . . .
Good wishes to everybody else - Benny, Alive, Carla, Jenny, and all the others I am missing.
-
Benny, so love to hear your farm adventures. That beautiful horse is defo missing you! I particularly like your laundry list of qualities you are looking for in a DH - sounds good to me, especially the householding qualifications - LOL. Sitting down often is how I rolled for a long time too. It does get better and better, I promise. When my hemoglobin is low, I don't have much energy, and can run out of breath very suddenly. Once I start taking iron supplements, it gets way better. Just a tip.
-
Liefie, will check into some iron supplements, thank you!!! Have to go to drugstore today to pick up Tamoxifen anyway so will look into a brand that's easy on the tummy. I know it can be constipating too

Some good news...... Paddy the rescue pigeon likes Cat Stevens!! He seems to have a thing for 70's music. I was getting so tired of JD.
-
Benny, pick up some dried prunes too - lol.
-

Websister, what wonderful news, xx
-
Benny, there is a good liquid iron supplement sold by healthstores called Floradix. It does not cause constipation either. Is a bit pricy, but worth it. Sorry I did not tell you this earlier. Can I still blame chemo brain for being so slow in the uptake? Or is is still the effects from anaesthesia 6 weeks ago? LOL.

Hi everyone
I am so sorry I didn't get back to you about our new granddaughter until now. It has been very busy lately. I'll try not to write a novel
Traffic since the flooding has not been wonderful here so it has been a bit of a challenge to get around and today one of the railway bridges started to give way under a train carrying volatile materials so that made traffic even more challenging most of today. I had an I an unscheduled tour of the flooded areas downtown on Tuesday. I had neglected to check the road report, I had taken some food to a friend in the NW part of the city and, by habit, started to take my usual route home. The lights at the intersection where I usually turn to go east were not working, the road to the east was closed and a policeman was directing traffic and waved me over the bridge and into the downtown area. It was bumper to bumper traffic and a few lanes of it and I was in the wrong lane to get out the best way I knew. I found myself driving around and getting stopped at various places by road closures. Finally another policeman helped me by directing me towards one of the few routes out o the south of the city, which is where I live. It was still very slow going and right through the cleanup efforts. So much damage, so many incredible people helping out.
Anyway, back to grandbaby. They stayed at home until afternoon and then drove to the hospital, parking a ways away and walking there, then taking the stairs to the maternity floor. That seemed to speed things up for them. At three she was 4 cm, at 4 she was 7 cm and by about 6 pm fully dilated and ready to push. Paisley Adeline was born at 6:24 pm with a full head of very dark hair, 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 1/4 inches long. We stayed until about 10, by the time we got home I was just too tired and achy to go on line.
This a.m. I had a meeting at the children's hospital on the other side of town and with the news of the train derailment/bridge on the radio headed out early in order to try to make it there on time. I did make the meeting, in the parking lot there was a man being gentlemanly behind me on the stairs up to go to the hospital. I waved him ahead of me, telling him it was going to take me a bit - Benny/Liefie/Edi - you are not alone in this area.
The meeting concerned me a bit as I am gearing up to go back to work and it seemed that the managers etc in the meeting were under the impression that, with my return, I would be working with them to help solve many of their problems - pressure!!!
How good to go and visit with DS and DIL and hold Paisley then! Puts everything in perspective as to what is really important in life.
After visiting there, I got some supplies my Mom needed and drove out to see her with here laundry. I have to confess that when I got home I was too tired to do anything but grab the nearest junk food and now here I am.
Paisley and her parents are doing well and they hope to discharge Mom and babe tomorrow, they just want to make sure she is nursing well first.
I will read up on how to post pictures and see if I can't get a few on her before the weekend is over.
Edi - thanks for the picture of the baby girl
-
Websister, oh my goodness, what a busy time you have had - no wonder you ran out of steam! The flood conditions don't help either. We are just happy that mom and baby are both doing so well. I think the grandmama should slow down a little, and get some rest. We would love to see little Paisley, but will wait patiently for the photos - no rush. What a week this has been in Calgary. Just saw on the news that a 2-year old little boy had been found dead in a locked car in Calgary. Temp. was 31 degrees outside . . . so very sad - must be a parent's worst nightmare.
-
Websister....congrats on the newest family addition. She is a very lucky little girl, to have such a loving family. Boy, do I hear ya on gettin around town.....never leave to go anywhere without a full tank of gas....impossible to know what route or how long it will take you. Lucky us....this weekend we are supposedly ferrying the contents of the storage locker (in the deep south) into downtown and up to daughter's apt. IT IS GOING TO BE A LOOOOOOOOONG WEEKEND, FOR SURE!!!!!!
OK, I give....someone please send me the cuban lunch recipe.....I have a hubby and many friends with a sweet tooth.
-
Websister, congratulations on the birth of your beautiful grand-daughter. She has a lovely name too. Sorry to hear about the difficulty getting around - I hear it may take a very long time for Calgary to recover from the flooding. No wonder you are tired, given your activity of the last fee days. I hope you have a chance to get some rest - it's a long weekend in Canada, correct?
Feeling very tired myself so time for sleep. -
Got the recipe now, Thanks to Liefie.....I think...! My teeth ache just reading the list of ingredients.... OMG!
-
Nihahi, can't say you have not been warned - LOL. This to be taken in small doses for sure!
-
Honestly....the combination of ingredients almost makes me gag, but I have NO doubt hubby will devore it!!!!!! To me, it's a sacriligous waste of a potato chip (I LOVE(D) POTATO CHIPS....), haven't wanted one since my flap surgery! Maybe my ps took out my potato chip processor

-
Nihahi.....I intend to add the Cuban Lunch to my TimTam stash. (Food storage, you know).

Websister.....what an exciting time for you and your family! Looking forward to seeng a picture of your lovely little granddaughter after you catch up on some much deserved rest!
Heading out for my last walk.....my pedometer says I have another 4,000 steps to take.....piece of cake!
Love to you all.....
Namaste and God bless - Jackie -
Movie....you are a marvel of dedication!!!!! I'm just slugging on the couch, watching recorded Wimbledon tennis matches! Makes me feel like I'm atheletic!
-
Movie, how many steps are you aiming for in a day? I'm thinking of getting myself a pedometer. Have to get moving more.
-
Liefie....10,000 is the amount to start with....but you are already a walker, so adding more should not be an issue......mine has me measure my stride (30") and then I use the calculator to figure it out.....very easy to hit 10,000 if you are at all active. Yesterday I did 26,000....approx. 13 miles.....but it's during the entire day.....
.
Jackie -
Thanks Movie! I still think you are amazing doing so many miles, no matter how you cut it. You are so inspiring to me! You have my full permission to enjoy a few Timtams guiltfree every day - won't make a dent.
Both boys now coming home tomorrow. Another long drive over the Rockies mountain passes, and a long day of worry until they pull into the driveway. Oh well, they are 26 and 29 years old, and the days of mollycoddling are long gone. Went into town and got supplies - lots! They're here for a week, and will expect to be fed . . . I'm planning to spoil them. Will NOT be making Cuban Lunch though. As their mom I should not jeopardize my children's health. LOL.
-
Movie - I'm with Liefie, you are amazing walking so many steps/miles
Liefie - thoroughly enjoy spoiling those boys of yours this week; hope they have a good and non-eventful trip there and back -
websister......what the heck are you doing up at this time?????
-
Nihahi, what are YOU doing up at this time!?????!???

Jackie -
Icing my shoulder....which isn't a bad thing, since it's finally starting to warm up around here. What are YOU doing up....still "stepping"??
-
I'm also still awake! Been listening to a Beatles LP from 1969 on my laptop - Abbey Road. I was 14 then . . . Love them, always have, always will.
Icing you shoulder - lol - I have to put heat on mine before I can do those physio exercises. It is still painful, but I think it's getting better. Maybe I'm imagining it just because I want it to be better - lol.
We really have to go to bed now. Night night!
-
Good grief....must be one of "those" nights.....planetary alignment maybe???? I'm actually quite tired, but just know that if I go to bed, I won't fall asleep. What shall we chat about??? Hmmmm????
-
Counting sheep maybe?
-
naw.....all the weight loss talk on the diep thread makes me worry. I think I've been slipping lately on portion sizes! Sooooo don't want to lost the flat tummy now.
-
Liefie...I still love them too! Their music brings back wonderful memories.....
Nihahi.....so sorry you are having shoulder issues....but ice is "nice".... I always ice, even when my body is screaming " heat"! Not stepping....my dogs are pooped!! Did 13 1/3 miles..... Icing my tootsies sounds like a great idea! Going to go pull out a frozen paper cup full of ..... Ice!
I am calling what I am doing the Sapporo Weight Loss Plan.....highlights include:
*Ditching your car at every possible opportunity and walking.....
*Taking the stairs instead of the elevator.....
*Eating sushi and sashimi 3-4 times a week, and lean chicken or occasional lean beef or buffalo the rest of week.....filling in with lots and lots of veggies, and fruits in small amounts ( but a little every day, for sure).....
*the most important part of this Plan is this: you MUST use CHOPSTICKS for EVERY meal. EVERY day.............believe me....this is the key.....by the time you have been forced to FIGHT for every bite of food to actually make it into your mouth, you will be too damn tired to eat much.....(try eating an egg sunny side up with those buggers.....)
I've been at it 5 weeks....am down a solid 10 pounds.....and that is after demolishing a "few" packages of TimTams......haven't even started making Cuban Lunch.....
Love you ladies!
Jackie -
I've totally fallen off the wagon these last two weeks, and won't go near the scale for the next few weeks. Did not walk much either because it was raining and cold all the time. Started back to 'conscious' eating today, and not just mindlessly stuffing my face. Also started walking again today. I am so upset with myself, but it's over, and I'm back on track.
-
Movie....no way would my hubby tolerate that kind of food for long...It's like pulling teeth to get mine to eat fruit, veggies, only if I make him. Sometimes it's like two different meals at our hourse. Liefie...Me too.....re: back on track. I'm starting again tomorrow. Me...it's been the stress of daughter and flood stuff I think. Haven't really planned or thought out the meals lately. Went for a "walk" with a friend today, which ended up being an easy hike, but we were baking our brains out on a prairie type walk...aka...no shade. I had sunscreen and my tilley hat on, thank god. REally felt the result of crappy eating....tomorrow....back to it!!!! Now, I'm going to bed. Hope you both sleep.
-
I hope you both realize I am kidding.......I am trying to be funny.....
I AM doing all of what said, but not for weight loss....I just felt SO good in Japan, I thought I would continue the lifestyle back home.....I have not been able to move one ounce off of my carcass for MONTHS, even with daily exercise.....I was amazed that I got results in Japan....it has been a lovely surprise.....I need to drop 25 more pounds.....this might work -for me......just hope I have feet left!
