Tampa area BCO sisters get togethers

Thanks Firework! It's kind of imtimidating planning a trip to an unfamiliar area. The kids are excited though. They have never been to a beach!

You are the quintessential hostess! Thank you for sharing your home and culinary talents! Our group just keeps getting better! Being able to spend time together is so enjoyable, especially in such a lovely setting.
Thank you, you are SPECIAL K

Aww thanks ladies! I enjoyed it so much - so nice to strengthen the bond we share!
Tif - the ladies on this thread who live in Pinellas County will probably be more help because that is where the good beaches are! Clearwater consistently rates well with those top ten kind of surveys - also Siesta Key is supposed to be nice. I know that the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is nice, and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (home of Winter the dolphin!) and the Florida Aquarium (in Tampa) are both fun. How old are your children? There is also the Glazer Children's Museum and many major league baseball teams have spring baseball in this area. I like the info from Trip Advisor - it has ratings from people who have visited - it is a good resource if you are going someplace unfamiliar.
-
Thanks Special K I will check out Trip Advisory! My kids are 10 and 7. Those are some great suggestions!

Honeymoon Island, a state park, is just north of Clwr Beach can be seen from the north end of Clwr Bch. It also has a nice beach, and trails to check out the wild life in Fl.
There is also Tarpon Springs with a wonderful Greek heritage, sponge diving. Great food there too! About 30 min north of Clwr on the coast. -
Thanks Spookiesmom! I will check those suggestions out!
-
When are you planning to come? It is the middle of spring break right now so Clearwater Beach will be taken over with High School and College Students, so probably a bit "wild". There are lots of hotels, condos, restaurants, shops, boat trips, traffic, people and pier 60. The hotel prices will be higher during spring break.
St. Pete Beach will have spring breakers but it will be much tamer and is a very beautiful beach. There are hotels, condos, beach shops, boutiques and restaurants. On the south end at Pass-a-Grill it is very quaint and there is always good shelling.
Honeymoon Island is a bit more laid back and as Spookiemom said a pretty beach and it has good shelling. You can take the fairy boat over to Caldesi Island, great shelling. It is just land and water there are no hotels or condos to stay in. (And you do need to keep your eye open for rattle-snakes. Take the signs seriously, as we have seen them on more than one occasion.)
Where ever you decide to go you will have a good time. It is really very beautiful here all along our coastline. Tons of shopping and places to eat.
-
I think she said June.
I can see Caladesi from my living room, but have never been there. Rattlers? Guess I won't be going, we killed a few pigmy rattlers when we moved here about 30 years ago. -
Warrior- we are not coming until mid-June. The kids would love a great place to find shells! I am writing down all the suggestions posted and am working on narrowing down a location to stay in. Is Busch Gardens worth the money? I have been to the one in Virginia, but that was a long time ago! Thanks for the help Warrior. I think I will be skipping the island with rattlesnakes as I wouldn't want to pee myself in front of the family!!
-
I haven't been over to Busch Gardens for a few years, but I'd say yes, it's worth the drive over. Adventure Island is across the street, it's a water park and the kids love that too.
-
I agree Bush Gardens is worth it. My kids loved it!
-
Thanks ladies! I believe we will include Busch Gardens in our plans!

Hi Ladies,
I was thinking whether we should start to corroborate on our choice of "Walk-Run for BC" this year.
I don't have very strong feelings.......not to crazy about wearing glitter and feather bras but with enough Pink Lemonade in me, I could get some crazy on!!
Anybody want to chat about?
Love ya Ladies,
Lorraine -
firework, what walk are you thinking about?
-
My DD did the 60 mile Komen here last year. I had mixed feelings then, still do. I hate Pinktober.
-
Miles for Moffitt is going to be May 11th. @ USF Sundome
-
Define "Pink Lemonade"?
-
Galsal,
Ummmmm, Mike's HARD Pink Lemonade! It's a seasonal flavor so I stocked up with a case!! Still have it, just waiting for an excuse to give it a chill and a chug! Hee hee hee -
.......is there a walk for all cancers?
Lorraine
Or, we all could go bar hopping , on foot, wearing ribbons! jk -
Hello?........Tap Tap Tap......is this thing working? .........anybody out there?
-
Miles for Moffitt looks like it benefits cancer research. That is pretty cool--rather than blowing all the funds on "awareness".
I like the bar-hopping idea, though!
-
Hopping bars? Gee, I don't know if I can jump or vault that high.
-
Galsal, it's Easter time , ya gotta hop!
Xoxo
L -
Hippity Hop, Hippity Hop The only problem with that is driving.
-
.............there are many more problems with bar hopping with ribbons than just driving!!
LOL -
Speaking of bars....
Time to plan our next gathering and we definately need an evening planning session, I think. Galsal and I are past due for Timpano's in Hyde Park. Anyone want to join next week? Tuesday is Ladies' Night, Wednesday is 1/2 price Oysters. Monday is blissfully peaceful....
-
Me !
Now, where is this place???
edited to add: Googled and I found it!
-
Wonderful. As far as when, it needs to be not NEXT week, but the following week for me. Does Tuesday, April 2 work? Or Wednesday, April 3 if we want to get into the oysters?
-
Will all depend for me about when visitors are in town.
-
Just let is know. I am open most nights that week. This coming week I have work related events both Tuesday and Wednesday.
