Good morning lovely ladies - Does anyone have any suggestions for site-seeing on the west side of Baltimore. I have an afternoon open and I thought I might check something out. I'd rather not drive into downtown if I don't have to. But I don't mind country/suburb driving. Thanks so much!

Ok not staying at the hotel monteleone because it was way more money than their sister hotel the Bienville House which with tax and parking was about $300 cheaper for four nights and only 2 blocks away. Since my tatoo is $600 and no insurance I opted to try to save a bit. I did get a discounted rate for the room because of the breast center. The total for the room for four nights with parking is $513 for a deluxe room with a king and a window. I figure we will probabaly be out walking all over the place most of the time anyway. They have free wifi and contintental breakfast too.

I was going to stay there but the dates I needed they didn't have a room for two of the days. Maybe we can still get together for that drink.

I have stayed at both the Bienville House and Hotel Monteleone... As far as location, both are the same... The pool and bar at HM are really nice, but how much pooling will you be doing? I was there in July, when it was hot, so we went to the pool a lot.  BH is nice, and much cheaper.

Fredntan.......yay for You!!! My appt. is September 18th, so I will be waiting to see how your experience goes. Don't know the answer to your questions but I'm sure others will chime in.

He did tell me I couldn't go swimming for 2 weeks afterwards .....so I guess that means I have to sit in the Aria cabana in Vegas and chaperone .......NOT! .... Yes, to the cabana but NO to the Chaperone.

Journey pointed out that I could stand in the pool waist deep and hang out...Sounds like a plan to me! Looking forward to hearing all about Vinny..:)

My appointment is for Sept 12. I will be having 3d nipples and areolas on both sides. I opted to have a masectomy on the left side when I had my diep surgery. My right side was the one that I had cancer in so it was taken Nov 2010. When I knew I was going to have my left taken along with nipple and areola I took pictures of what I had for maybe color reference when I get my tatoos. I'm hoping that will help in getting the right color it can hurt anything.

I'm scheduled to see Vinnie in Md on August 26th, but not for my tatts, but for a patch test of the dyes he uses.  I have very sensitive skin, and am highly allergic to lots of random things....MRI dye, the adhesive on most bandages, chemical sunscreens, EKG stickers.....Anyway, having never had a tattoo, I was afraid I would be allergic to the dye and didn't want to risk ruining my foobs due to an allergic reaction.   I spoke to Vinnie, and he said in all the years he is doing this, he has only had 3 or 4 women react to the dye.  I told him he might be talking to number 4 or 5!

So he is giving me a patch test next week, and then if all goes well, I will return on Oct 1st to get the real tatts done. I'm very excited!!!

    Farmerlucydaisy,

I see no one has responded to your question about sightseeing (at the time of your post, I was off line visiting my daughter in Columbia, MD).

There really isn't anything to tour on the western side of Baltimore that doesn't involve going downtown.

You could head out to Columbia, MD  (south west of Vinnie's)to see a famous planned commnuity (Jim Rouse's  baby).  There is a very upscale mall in the downtown area if you want some retail therapy. Columbia also has just about any type of ethnic cuisine or chain restaurant that you may want.

Otherwise, the Inner Harbor of Baltimore is easy to get to from BWI.  One of the best aquariums in the world is located there. Little Italy is close by for Italian pastries at Vaccaro's.  On the other side of the harbor is Ft McHenry of Star Spangled Banner fame.

I stayed at Days Inn at Inner Harbour. I asked for medical rate and got room for $99 night with its own restaurant inside. Is safe and within walking distance of Inner Harbour where there are lots of restaurants, shops, national aquarium, Fort McHenry all accessible by walking or water taxi.

Sounds like a really good idea PinkHeart. I read your bio: re reconstruction nightmare. I have to say I was quite surprised to see that Mayo and Johns Hopkins were your original PS. I hope things are going well now. Did the lymph node transfer work? Do you like your tatts?

    Farmerlucy,

I really need to update my bio!

I am no where near getting tatts. In November I will have my 10th surgery since being diagnosed with BC.

My hero microsurgeon is Dr. Richard Kline, The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, Charleston, SC.

    Tatts in 2014???

    Farmerlucy,

This is off topic but just curious why the late start on Tamoxifen?

PH - After the surprise dx I fell into a bad place emotionally and when I tried tamoxifen the first time I blamed every symptom I was having on it. Since my onco score was very low I decided not to take it. After I recovered from the PTSD it weighed heavily on me not to be taking it. After about a year I decided to try again. This time my attitude was much better and I had only a few SE. I am thankful to be taking it. I don't sweat the late start. We can only do what we can do. Hugs!

So, I thought I was going to do this, but now I'm rethinking it.  Has anyone had nipple tattoos and NOT done reconstruction?

I don't think I want to do reconstruction, but thought having the nipple tattoos would make me look "more normal" when I see my reflection in the mirror.  But my husband brought up something the other night that is making me rethink.  He said I might perhaps feel like I look like a man if I get them put on, as opposed to looking like I had breast cancer.

It's given me something to think about, and wondering if anyone else has had them without reconstruction and does feel that way.

I've not done them YET, GoWithTheFlow, but I intend to have tats after my no recon.

I don't think it will make me feel like a man, but just like not having a belly button looks odd - I think having nipples will look more HUMAN.

I have a umx that i implanted but no nipple/aureola recon, and when I pass the mirror it's like my chest is winking at me ( even the hub says the same thing). Sure dont want to trade that for a blank stare.

Thanks for your input Carol.  Still thinking this thing through.  Since I had a BMX, I understand what he's said and I think he could be right.

thanks Renee.  I just looked at the pictures that showed up under the portfolio.  When you scroll, there are some without reconstruction.  I guess I have to agree with my husband.  I am completely flat right now.  I' m so thankful he thought of that.  I didn't.  I think I'll just go on as is right now and keep it in mind if I end up doing reconstruction at some point in the future.  Thank you!
