Ontario Get Together

OMG I finally found the right site again (thanks Leslie) and there is nothing left for me to say! I was nervous about meeting everyone yesterday (only heaven knows why) but so happy that I did. My DH tells me frequently that I suffer, for some unknown reason, from low self esteem according to him.(He should have been a psycologist),
It was so good to put names & personalities to faces...did not get to speak one on one to everybody but I am sure we will do this again. Maybe even in smaller groups of those who live close together...that might be easier. It was such a good day.
Had rad 10/25 today & slept 3 hours this afternoon...guess it was a build up...hate doing that'cause I wake up grumpy like a bear.
Myleftboob & roberta & anyone else that missed, Maybe we can arrange another lunch or something...I will make whatever pie is in season...October ...I make a mean pumpkin and apple. lol
I get as much enjoyment from making them as you do from scarffing....lol
-
Isabelle....did you get my e-mail.....just want to check. Why you would have a self-esteem problem, I don't know. You are perfectly sweet and charming, not to mention a great baker (don't forget, I DID try the peaches..LOL)....I never really had a big problem with that, but I find now I'm not so comfortable in large crowds, except with you lovely BC gals....not sure what that's about. I do correspond with one lovely lady in Australia who says she is more comfortable staying at home most of the time....not into crowds either.
-
I am usually much better but ... how do I post pictures here from yesterday. I have tried but I cannot do it. Hate to have to confess that (lol).
-
Next get together i will be there. I can be had, specially with sweet treats hahaha. I am a loner but will gladly step out of my zone to meet all you wonderful ladies who kept my feet firmly on the ground.( or my head out of my ---) hahaha

Isabelle, do you know how to save a thread in your favourites?? There is a line for you to click on so that all your favourites will pop up in their own little file each time, so you only have to check "My Favorites" each day.
As for posting pics, it's a tough one. But do you see the little green blob beside the smiley face along the top of the posting box? Click on that and paste the URL of the picture into the proper line and save it. See if it inserts into the body of your post box and voila!! I'm sure someone else will do much better at explaining. There was a time that I could just copy and paste from FaceBook pictures but can't do that anymore. Good luck!!!

Isabelle
I have been craving peach anything since you made mention of those pies LOL! I'm not much of a baker but I found a recipe for peach crisp which is in the oven now! I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm in for the next get toghether for sure! -
Where on earth are you gals getting decent peaches??? All the ones I see are rock hard or rotten!!
-
Believe it or not No Frills. Mind you a little on the hard side but they worked well. The crisp turned out pretty good. My only complaint was there was A LOT of juice. But I just skimmed off the top. I had a serving and sent the rest with DH to give to his work mates so I wouldn't pig out on it LOL. Craving satisfied.
-
I bought some there too....they never softened. I never thought about making anything with them...just tossed em! I have found the same thing for the past few years. Three years ago we went to Niagara region and couldn't even find anyone selling them...was very disappointing...I give up!
Supposedly our apples are supposed to be scarce this year too and I love apple crisp. We usually go and pick them but dunno if we will this year. Strawberries weren't that plentiful either this year, except imported ones.
What has happened to all the gorgeous produce of my youth? Always had lots of fresh veggies and fruit. Even the farmers markets stuff looks like it came from downtown Toronto! Wish I had room to grow my own.
-
I hear you Shatzi. I think years back everything was local and now its big business and imported, picked before anything naturally ripe and shipped.
-
Shatzi & Myleftboob....My "pie peaches" came from Foodland, right here in Brechin & last week got some from Food Basics in Orillia....I buy them a little bit hard and they ripen in a couple of days. Have had wonderful peaches for the last couple of years.
MLB: if there is a lot of juice, add a little tapioca or cornstarch/bit of butter, that will thicken it up (along with waistline of course)but tastes great.
Coming with Sunday pictures soon.
-
Hi Isabelle...I try to let them ripen but by then they are rotten inside...I guess I don't have the knack of picking good ones LOL.
My DH printed the picture of us taken Sunday and it looks great in the frame.
-
I get the best fruit at.....wait for it....WalMart!!! I think their fruit turns over so quickly and they have such buying power that it makes that much of a difference. The prices are about the same as a regular store, but the freshness is what makes the difference. I've only been disappointed once this year with nectarines that were bruised and went bad. I'm usually very anal about what I pick, so they must have JUST been dumped in or something for me not to see the bruises, which then developed at home. Never had a problem since. I get the best corn locally of course, as we all do.
-
We have no local corn this year...just get it at the store...at least it is Ontario produce but who knows how fresh it is?
I have rotten luck (no pun intended) at WalMart!
-
Peach Pies from Ontario Get Together....Just showing off that I can bake & post pictures....lol....finally got it right, going to try again with another pic.
-
Oh boy were they delish...the pic is making me hungry...time for lunch!
-
Sorry ladies but I do have pics but cannot load them. Tried what brave said but didn't work... Help.
-
brave? Do you mean me, barbe???
I use Chrome as my navigator and can't post pics anymore. I have to email them to someone who can. Can anyone help Joanne out????
-
I am trying...still having trouble...got one posted on my desktop computer...now trying to do it on my laptop....frustrating....will help when I can.
-
The only way I know how to post photos is to put the photo on Facebook first and then copy and paste. Apparently the photo first has to be somewhere on the internet and some photo sites will do the job.
