What are you doing for fun??

About 1 1/2 weeks until younger dd's wedding. Dresses will be ready Thursday and everything seems to be in place (I hope). I bought my granddaughter the cutest tiny pair of sparkly red shoes to go with her white tulle dress ( she is the only one other than the bride who'll be wearing white). Six more days of school left for me. I'm taking the last school day off to get loose ends tied up before the Sunday wedding. I will be a old kind of tired when this s done!

Mrs. M - I'm with you on the concerts, turn up the volume baby, whoo!! :-) Love the pic of you and DH, I've had Come Sail Away in my head all day.
Marywh - your stories about NASCAR crack me up. The burger sounds disgusting, but pretty hilarious...the above ground pool made me laugh!! Hubby and I would actually love to go to a race someday, Mark Martin is/was my favorite driver. I love how the NASCAR drivers are humble and gracious, they seem to "get" where their paycheck comes from versus other pro athletes who often seem like spoiled brats.
Tina - can't get enough of those Rome stories...and now that you and Susan are talking about food...mmm...
Brandall - glad you had fun at Disney and are filling your days with fun. Just so cool, love reading every word of this thread. Now that you mention Les Mis, I'm singing those songs in my head (in between Mrs. M's STYX songs, haha).
Aslans - I can just smell that lilac tree, we have one in our yard in full bloom right now and I love the fragrance...and living in Seatlle, I totally get the gardening in the rain comment!
Caryn - good luck with the wedding, it will be great!
-
It is supposed to be very, very hot on Sunday. The ceremony is outdoors. Just ordered 12 dozen paper fans!!!! Thank G-d for amazon prime, fast and free shipping! Can't believe I'm doing last week of school and countdown to the wedding all at the same time. Fun? Not always, but normal, and that's what I love.

Caryn,
We went to an outside wedding in Texas a few summers ago during a horrible drought. The sun beat relentlessly down and the temperature soared well into the 100s. The elders were teetering and tottering and fainting, so I suggest you may want to see that each person over a certain age be discreetly assigned someone to keep an eye on them.
The fans are a great idea. In late June two years ago we were at an outdoor wedding in the Berkshires where there were prominently placed tubs of iced water bottles all over the venue.
It sounds like you're having a ball!

Younger dd's big, fat Jewish wedding was yesterday. Beyond wonderful! Exhausted right now but will try to post details and pics soon. The weather, mercifully, cooled off quite a bit.

Cannot wait to see pictures.

Getting back to what I did doing school arts & crafts particualy working with miniatures concentrating right now on the 1:6 scale aka Barbie Scale or Playscale. I customizied dolls, furntiure and vehicles. Current project is decking out the barbie RV Star Traveller from 1976 made 2 years before I was born. My sister bought it for me for $12 it is in excellent condition, it is going to be a joint project.
Also working on turning a regular barbie into a water proof mermaid, plan on teaching my nieces how to make them this summer the youngest 8 loves Monster High and mermaids.
-
Still too pooped to detail the wedding (I tutored a child today and then had to clean up my classroom for the summer) but I was thinking of our dear Laurie on Sunday. Why?
Because I sat patiently in a chair and got my slap on, professionally, including false eyelashes! I think she would have approved .

Hi Friends,
I haven't been here for a while, somehow this thread was inadvertently removed from my favorites. You have all been very, very busy. Wonderful graduation parties, weddings, trips, gardening, crafting .... love how we treasure our special times. Caryn, can't wait to see pictures of the wedding and Tina, pictures of Rome. Mrs. M, I'm a concert lover, too. Just saw Willie Nelson in Lancaster, PA on Monday night. He is 80 years old and still performing .... and performing very well! Will be heading to the beach next week with my sister, niece, and some of our grandchildren and then taking the 4 girls to Niagra Falls the next week and to the Shakespeare theatre in Stratford, ON to see Romeo and Juliet. The real purpose of going to Stratford is the teeny boppers want to see where Justin Bieber grew up! What grandmas will do for their grandchildren .... LOL! Caryn, when you wrote about putting your slap on it brought happy tears to my eyes .... Laurie will always be remembered with happy tears! Loved her friendship. Thanks for sharing!! -
I love hearing about the ways you are finding joy in your lives. Congratulations on your daughter's marriage, Caryn. Looking forward to some photos. One of my sons got married two years ago and I had so much fun helping to plan the wedding. And now I have a grandaughter, Josephine Simone, who just turned one.
I recently returned from a trip to Vermont for a family gathering - my brother, his girls, their partners, my sons, their partners/wife, my grandaughter, etc. Such precious time together. My brother doesn't do much in the kitchen - smoothie in the morning and barbeque in the warm months. But come 5 o'clock when the family is together, he mixes his superlative Margaritas! We play games, take walks, visit Sam's Army and Navy store in town for the umpteenthtime - they do give free popcorn and nobody seems to tire of a bit of time there.
I'm hoping to go whale watching this summer, take a short trip to Quebec City, and if all is reasonably well, Havana next winter. I love being in new places, including feeling slightly unsettled by what is new and unfamiliar. Makes the discoveries all the more intriguing!
Looking forward to more stories about what fun you're all having.

Glenna, Niagara Falls is one of my favorite places to visit. What is it, something about the ions in the air due to all that water going over the falls that it's supposed to make you feel good. My favorite little tourist attraction there is "Cave of the Winds" where you get right up next to the Bridal Veil Falls; I like it even better than the Maid of the Mist tour, altho that's lots of fun, too. And just walking through the national park is a beautiful experience.
Jill, your talk of Margueritas is makin' me thirsty!
-
Thanks for the recommendation, Mrs. M, will definitely take in the cave of the winds! I was there over 25 years ago and look forward to sharing the beauty with some of my family!! What a beautiful world we live in! I love Vermont, too. Was there for a wedding a few years ago. Just beautiful!

I showed Blue in the High Plains Horse Show in Dodge City this weekend! We did great. We placed in every class and we won Grand Champion in Speed Events! A pic of my awesome buckle:
-
Wow chele, you and blue are amazing together!!
-
Thanks Latte! We are competing in a very small show that gives away very big buckles
I just love that silly old horse.
-
Chele, love it! That's some big bling. Congrats to you and Blue!

Caryn & Chele congrats..
That's why the boards have been a bit silent for the last few days. Everyone's so busy..GOOD. More time doing stuff (actually being able to!) than sit & chat here all day long, which I admit I miss sometimes. But no time for selfishness, I am happy many of us are able to get on with our daily lives nowadays..
OK, ds (8) has been venting all his friends gather together for play after school, that he was the only one not inviting anyone over yet, for obvious reasons of course. Thank God, I'm just adapting to the X, so I could invite 3 of his friends over on Monday. He was so happy, he woke up, got ready for school all by himself & after he went, I found the note "thank you" on his table
. I'm soooooo happy to have made it up for him. This is the last week of school, so we have a few more gatherings for him planned already before taking off to summer house.
Btw I was able to convince him that I need not grow my hair back long ( I fear it will be too traumatic for him to witness me losing all again & again) so, I shaved the sides of my hair like Pink. Now I'm the new cool mom he adores. His friends were awed when first saw me. I forgot to post pic, so will put it as new avatar.
hugs, Ebru

Oh Ebru, I love your hair.I bet you are the cool Mom. Ive missed this thread too.. Havnt been doing anything fun lately. Just getting over starting on Ixempra, but hoping Ill be able to go to n Fla. this week-end. My sister has moved to within driving distance of us, which makes it convenient for week-end trips. I sure am mourning my beach house this year though.
-
Ebru, I most definitely thought of you while in down town Chicago a couple of weeks ago. I don't work in the city anymore, it is very funny what events pop up....
-
This is on Michigan Avenue in the plaza just opposite the Wrigley Building
-
Very colorful wares!
-
Save the best for last!!!!
-
Awesome haircut on a beautiful woman. It's giving me ideas for when I lose my hair. I'm not sure a 64 year old me can rock the look you have without looking like I'm trying too hard to look young!
-
Thanks tina and stagefree!
Love the hair ebru! -
Chele - yay for you and Blue!! Congrats!!!
Ebru - you are stunning and beautiful. You totally rock the P!nk look!!!
So happy to continue reading this thread. I'm slow to catch up on the grad parties, weddings, trips, gardening, etc, etc. Just so happy to see us stage 4 gals living life.
-
Ebru, you rock that haircut!
Love the Turkish pottery, too.
Caryn -
Thanks Nancy! I hope you are finding fun things to do?
-
Ebru, Just want to echo everyone else, LOVE your hair!!
-
Thanks everyone for the compliment!! Now I'm relieved cos DS was like begging me to grow my hair back long...I'm happy to have solved the problem without much loss.. well other than most of my newly blossomed hair! Oh the irony..
Englishmajor, the photos are awesome. And now everyone knows what my name means
!!! I am a piece of art, yep, hahaha!!
Marywh I hope & pray Ixempra is gentle on you. Jill, trust me I don't look much different than after a couple of chemo coctails..cos I lost the sides & back first anyway.. I wouldn't have bothered for a shave & wig then if I knew it then..Yep Jill, definitely suggest this to all sisters on chemo
))
hugs, Ebru

Ixempra ended up being pretty awful but I only do it every three weeks, so Im off to Florida again for the week-end. My sister moved to N. Florida which is within driving distance. Yay! We'll be going on a ghost tour in St. Augustine which sounds like great fun. Cant wait....
