dune - if you have a stage IV breast cancer diagnosis, SSDI is usually awarded on a "compassionate allowance" basis regardless of your other issues. Also, the award is usually expedited for this group of individuals. Here is a link:
-
Thanks K. My lawyer is most concerned that they award it based on when I applied in 2012. She won't get her nice fat chunk of cash if they award it based on my stage iv status. She is far more concerned about that retroactive pay than I am, but I better sound good in court so that she can't sue me for payment. I'm pretty sure she only gets paid if we win and that payment is a percentage of the retroactive amount. Oh, where oh where is that paperwork?
-
I see what you're saying, and I am betting you are correct - she wants her percentage on the retroactively dated award. If you are denied for some reason, just re-apply with the compassionate allowance based on your stage IV status, but don't use an attorney.
-
Thanks K!
-
Dunes - I am bummed to see your posts lately, so sorry, will be rooting for you in your challenge with the government.....
-
Ah, the government. Now, that's a bummer Lily.
Don't be bummed Lily. I'm sorry if I'm sounding bummed. My pain level is down and I'm not taking pain meds. I have cool new lymphediva sleeves and the swelling is way down. The lawyer is far more concerned about getting that money than I am. I get very anxious at times, but I'm OK.
-
Dune glad to hear that pain level is down and you are off pain meds.. Sorry though to see that your lawyer seems more interested in how much money she can get.. I am in your corner and hoping the hearing on Oct. 1st goes well for you.
-
Thanks Cindy! I'll do some preparation but mostly leave it in the hands of God.
