Hi Susan.  It's a phone app that grades your food choices and gives you basic nutritional info about it.  For example - Special K.  Graded A- because of controversial sweeteners, but low overall sugar content. Also dinged for artificial flavors. Lots of user comments, not always helpful.  Overall, I prefer using the MyFitnessPal app because it syncs to the computer, and gives you more valuable info.  Both have bar code scanners, which I like because it is taking me frikken forever to grocery shop these days, and any help in speeding up my learning/decision-making is welcome.

I can't give up a bit of daily dark chocolate either.

    Gina,

A work of art.....and  a perfect meal. "We eat with our eyes.". It requires patients. Unfortunatly I'm too impulsive to create. My dishes don't look like a mish mosh just edible. The care you take to plate a meal makes it so much more enjoyable...............................Can I join you?

Beautiful, Gina!  love your photos!  wish we lived closer Wink

good news...the scale has started to budge a little.  Hope it gives me the motivation I need!  Salmon leftovers for lunch today with brussel sprouts and mixed greens...

drank a little coffee this morning after deciding to quit...headache started and did not want to have to deal with it...do drink green tea as well, but this would not prevent the coffee headaches...

chef~ if I could only figure out how to keep it warmer longer!!!!!!!!!!!! I've always liked to decorate food, veggie trays, etc.  I just never was a really good cook - that's getting better.

I oven roasted the broccoli, had never heard of that before this thread or internet, don't remember.  It was good and different.  The peppers were just a last minute.  My DH had cut some up to put in the corn he made, so I took the left over pepper and put in the george forman grill with the salmon and onion. I like the way it cooks, but it left the inside of the fish a little cool, not like an oven heats all the way though.

So if I"m eating this way, I decided to make it fun, I mean portabella wrapped asparagus must taste better than portabella with asparagus, right! LOL

Thank you Susan, and yes, one day you and are need to meet.  Opposite ends of the country I know, but one day....

    Warning-rant ahead.

Grrr-5 months of healthy eating, exercising nearly every day and yes, 30 pounds of weight loss only to gain 2 pounds on yesterday's weigh-in.  I swear it was from walking near a block of cheese...it takes so little!  Back to the drawing board--redoing menus and trying to remember what works.

SAB - are you on tamox or an AI? They really can put the weight on, even though the docs SWEAR it isn't true.

Yes I am on tamoxifen.  I started it in October, so I'm about 90 days in and (naively) thought I had beaten that particular SE.

Today I started with wasa and pb, with a pear and green tea.  Lunch is a bowl of organic tomato soup, I will skip the chia chips today.   Dinner, you guessed it, a salad.

SAB-don't get discouraged!  30 pounds is amazing in itself.  Those two pounds are probably just water or could be drug related, who knows?  just keep doing what you are doing and it will come off (at least that is what I keep telling myself)

SAB - I KNEW it was the damn Tamox.  I had lost 35 lbs or so before dx. In fact it was the smaller size of my breasts that allowed me to feel the lump.  I stayed pretty stable during treatment, but the first 2 months I started Tamox, I put on  about 20 lbs. It was like I could PHYSICALLY FEEL the weight being added to me.

I work out six days/week very strenuously (weights/cardio) and eat reasonably well but the weight does not move.  I am glad I am building muscle and am definitely getting stronger. But I still wish to be back where I was before all this started. I was really proud of and happy with my body, and that's a rare thing for being 51.  Now at 54, well - it's ok, but not where I was back then.

The most important thing is that we are alive and healthy. I know that. But still.......

Amy, it does feel like an uphill battle right now.  I would like to rededicate myself to my food plan again, and maybe change up my exercise (primarily cardio.) I know the tamox may be making it harder, but there are laws of nature here! Eat healthy, eat less, burn more...that's the plan!  By the way I'm turning 54 in 6 months too.

Blood suger has plummeted two days in a row, I blame the rads but then again I tend to blame everything on the rads these days :D

It is also close to -20 outside and I walk 90 minutes to get to the bus and back and seem to be burning more calories than usual, does this make any sense?

Had a ginormous warm sallad today, trying to stay high on the protein side and also get some good fats in.

Pasta 'twirlies', fried tofu with basil and garlic, mixed lettuce, olive/rapeseed oil, pumpkin seeds, almonds, sunflower sprouts, tomatoes, fresh cauli, kale, mixed olives with chili and ajvar relish. Very nice.

SAB, we're in a similar situation. I lost 30 pounds since diagnosis. I am very pleased at this weight. Started tamoxifen in November and really have to watch to stay where I am. My DH says that you need more calories during chemo and surgery and rads to repair your body, so maybe it is a bit of not needing as many calories any longer. I did go back to eating some desserts, but am watching the portion size and also picking some lower calorie desserts. I think I am pretty much trying to do what you're doing Corinne, but I will eat grass fed beef once in a while. And I do eat chicken once or twice a week.

Had egg beaters with jalapeños and creole spice. I think I went a little overboard, burned my lips and tongue. Have a great day everyone.

Huge greek salad today with multiple lettuces, colorful peppers, tomatoes, feta, and red onions.  Had some chicken and a whole grain pita as well.  Kashi Go Lean cereal for breakfast with skim milk...

Wasa, tomato soup, and a big bowl of organic strawberries, yum.  I used a bit of Stevia on them. Organic chicken breast over spring greens with baked veggies for dinner. (I bought some organic golden beets to roast, looking forward to it.)

Kay, I think you're right--it is hard to keep adjusting to our body's changing needs right now.

    Banba- stay warm!

Tomorrow I will attend an orientation session for Kaiser's 82 week Weight Management Program. The first 16 weeks are meal-replacements, with shakes, soups, and nutrition bars. It is carefully physician-monitored, and there's required weekly labwork and doctor's appts. You must have at least 40 pounds to lose. My friend was a participant, lost 70 pounds, and is now off all her diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure medication.

Interestingly, cancer is not one of the conditions that would preclude you from participating. You just can't be in active chemo or rads. My only treatment will be Arimidex for five years. I already have so many of the side effects (joint pain, etc) and I haven't even started taking it yet!  I'm 8 weeks out from my BMX, healing well, and doing reconstruction. I need to be my "normal" weight for the best outcome when it's time for permanent implants.

I've failed at so many diets before, because the reasons just weren't there. I've always said, oh, I want to feel better, or look better. But now, my health is at stake. I want to use the meal-replacement time as sort of a "food detox" period for me - get off the "whites" (white sugar, white flour, etc,). We eat healthy enough around here (DH on kidney disease diet, I do lots of WW recipes and was a former macrobiotic vegetarian!) but once they start introducing home-cooked food back into the program, I want it to be my Anti-Cancer way of eating for the rest of my life.

I am just hoping they'll accept me. For me, this would be just another part of my breast cancer treatment...dropping the weight, having the energy to actually exercise, and reducing my high cholesterol and blood sugar. Wish me luck!

Had egg whites with jalapeños for breakfast. Corinne, I'm the only one eating them in my house, I know how you feel. I hate to see food wasted. Trying to make sure I don't buy anything that we're not going to eat. Now I have to get DH to stop going to the market. He came home with three boxes of Klondike bars. WTH? No one in the house really likes them, including me. It bugs me every time I see them in the freezer and I think they'll go to waste, so I eat one once in a while. I remember my mother being like that and me telling her just throw them away. I am just like her, I just can't throw it away.

    Blessings,

Congrats for making the effort to lose that extra weight. So important to a healthey lifestyle. Is the food they offer prepackaged? If so its most likely processed, but if it works its worth it. Good luck with the plan.

    Kay1963,

3 boxes of Klondike bars and no one likes them. Talk about sabataging a diet. If they were in my freezer, I would proberbly eat them too. My friend left a large box of homemade cookies and pastries last week and I ate 75% of them in about 8 hours time. I feel so guilty and ashamed.Sugar feeds the CA and I am diabetic. It took me way off course I won't admit to all the other shit food that followed.

I'm having my cottage cheese and flax oil custard for B'fast (budwig proto). I add pure maple syrup cinnamin and raspberries. really tasty. Back on track.

kay: I know how you feel.  I'll buy stuff for my husband and son=special food to make them happy=and they don't eat it, but I do!  They both are naturally skinny and have an internal fullness alarm when their stomach is only half full!  I only wish...Undecided

Pretty good food choices for the last few days, including fresh strawberries, blueberries and rasberries, baked cauliflower and golden beets (they came out good) baked brussel sprouts, brown rice, organic chicken breast, salad, meusli, almonds, clementines, bananas and pears.  My bad?  Yogurtland!!!  But I did get the sugar free chocolate at 20 calories per oz. :-) 3.5 oz. and well worth it! I feel like I'm mostly back on track eating healthily, and the scale is starting to, ever so slowly, move again.

Susan, that "fullness alarm" in us is sometimes interfered with by certain corn syrup products (I think it is high fructose corn syrup but don't remember exactly) which make your stomach feel less full.  I'm pretty sure I saw that in "Forks over Knives." I'll try to watch it again...if you have Netflix I think it is available for streaming.

Makes sense, SAB.  None of us in my house really eat corn syrup products, though.  I watch labels carefully, especially in the kids foods since they like to hide the corn syrup in those.  I am blaming it on genetics.

I'm a sucker for great food/health movies.  I've watched most of them , but haven't heard of that one.  I'll check on Netflix. Thanks!

Ladies, I made pizza last night and it was just like the real thing.  Now I know cheese is a no no but am wondering if it is possible to find hormone free cheeses?  Anyways, I used low carb tortillas with 13 grams of fiber each.  I used a light oil coating and fried them crisp, then I put them on a pizza pan and added pizza sauce (sugar free) cheese, then loaded them up with organic veggies and baked till brown and bubbly, as pizza would be.  This recipe could be improved with more organics.

Can we buy hormone free cheeses?  Organic tortillas that are low carb and high fiber?  Sauce could even be from scratch.  Any ideas?

Susan, Sorry, I was a late-comer to healthy eating and I often forget how many people got there before me!!!  I never felt full, ever, because of my poor dietary habits, and I thought I just didn't have a "full" button. "Forks over Knives" is a terrific documentary.  I would only caution that they imply causation for some things that, to me, seem more a correlation.  But there is lots of good information about plant based diets, the food industry and health.

Circles, may I ask where you found sugar free pizza sauce? Your tortilla pizzas sound wonderful.

Have been out of town for a week eating restaurant food.  Have managed to stay away from gluten (yay for me, as it makes me ache badly)...  last night went to an indian restaurant and had chicken korma and palak paneer.  I told my husband I want a really good Indian cookbook for my next birthday!

breakfast this morning was 2 clementines and tea.
