Rosie, I wish I had an idea to share for you but it sounds like you've got a few ideas to start the creative ball rolling. I can empathize with not wanting to be at home since two of my aunts chose that route. For me, and especially my cousins, their homes were never the same. Hugs.

Chevy--I had a similar experience when I was in the ER for what turned out to be an inner ear infection that caused my first case of vertigo. I don't vomit when I get nauseous but within about 30 to 45 minutes my intestines decide they're feeling left out of the party...so the attendant rolled me down the hallway and left me at the door. Not only did I almost keel over pulling up my pants but I finally made it out only to find out that my driver had bailed on me! I had to hold on to the wall the entire way back the exam room...then I used their wifi network to fire off an angry email to the hospital about the whole mess and let them know what a HUGE liability they were taking on with that kind of treatment.

So now, Owlies, I need some advice and there's a TMI warning...almost all my hair has gone including my pubic hair. I've been taking biotin, mostly for my nails, but I'm also getting a little bit of hair growth though the hairs are very fine and fragile. I've gotten a few ingrown hairs on my head and a couple on my legs but in the last day, two have popped up on, well, the correct term is labia majora: one is a quarter inch left of a very sensitive nerve area and the other is about 1/2" south of that. Mom always said a very hot compress for pimples but obviously that's not going to work and the tea trea oil I tried was a terribly painful idea...any ideas?

And Chevy...I don't think aloe vera is going to cure this one!

Marla! WTH you doing? I mean THAT'S a new one! Don't tell no-body... we keep this to ourselves... Maybe it will fall out on it's own....

Oh wait......... Maybe call the Fire Department? Tell the Para-medics exactly what the problem is, and you will get every para-medic within 2,000 miles rushing to your home! They won't have a clue what labia majora is....(and neither did I, but I assumed).... So give them the location of where the problem IS, and they are THERE!

Forget the Aloe Vera... Get Jack D. and drink it until submission.

Rosie... Is there any way your Docs, or team or friend can call or notify someone with the State? I mean I know of people who are at their wit's end, and will call a radio or TV station, and explain that you need HELP! It's just ridiculous that you are in this position, with no-where to turn.

I hear what you are saying........ I wonder if BC.ORG has any suggestions? I mean there are women here from all around the world! Maybe someone like Beachbaby? Someone with an idea?

Can that place you went to tell you of any OTHER place they know of? We need a referral, is all! Maybe someone in the Media field, like a newspaper help section? An open letter? We just need to rattle some cages... maybe kick some butt!

Ah, Chevy...I wish I could drink the Jack then I could numb myself and try to perform a hairectomy but with my luck, I'd miss and cause further injury...the other problem I have is that it's in the region of a scar I have from a run in with a barbed wire fence while wearing a pair of running shorts. Remember the running shorts in the 80's? Not a good idea to 1) forget the key to unlock the gate to your dad's property 17 miles out of town because you have to turn on water the avocado trees when he's out of town and 2) get the bright idea to climb through the barbed wire when your legs are jelly from track practice. AND it's my curse in life to always have cute ER docs when I have embarrassing injuries.

And I'd call for medics but the problem is that I know most of them since we have one ambulance service for most of the county. And as an emergency dispatcher, one of the first things we learn is that the medics will cut off your shirt...break your thumb, cut off your shirt....sprain your ankle, cut off your shirt. And if I drove myself to the ER after getting second degree burns to my tatas so that I could avoid that particular ignominy then I sure as heck am not going to call for my hooha--they'd want to cut off my shirt AND my pants.

So I'm hoping the nurses out there have an idea other than Nurse Ratchet's burning hot compress. She also offered to lance them with a needle but I think I'd rather call the medics. But it seriously hurts enough that I can't sleep--every time I move, it's like a knife. Oy!

Spookie--you mentioned crabby bills? I went to high school with the owners son...who may be the owner now, pauly Jenkins. They lived in bat cave nc, near chimney rock. The restaurant they have here is on the river. It may be gone. It's been 20 years since I was there in high school. I ate crocodile for the first time there. I visited your town in college and ate at one of the crabby bill's. I think there are about 6 down there? Anyway, small world

Marlana - I would try hot (relative to not burning yourself) shallow bathtub soaks. And even better if you can haul - hmmm - that area under the running water. If none of these are possible get a squeezy bottle, even a well cleaned out ketchup/mayo one, and squirt repeatedly with that hot water. It should finally work itself out. Maybe a bit of pain relief cream - I gather it is mostly external. Not sure if the chemo boards could be of better help. I had years ago a very large pimple (thought it was a Bartholin's cyst - not) and this advice was from my gyn. Of course I was much younger/fitter and did the haul it under the running water bit.

Welcome to our little world Beachbaby. Yup sure wished hospice had a provision for more direct care. Try explaining "continuous care" to a family in distress. They don't hear the short term, intensive, end of life. I worked with so many elderly; I think I had only 3-4 under 65 and they were Medicare/Medicaid except for 1. That 1 did have private insurance that changed during her hospice care and made her switch hospices - not covered. I had more trouble with patients finding our hospice (often thru a good referral) and then not being allowed in that particular facility. Thank goodness I did not do the financials/legals for the 2nd one I worked for. I had a very good biller who could straighten out most stuff.

Tang - see your message. It is much more sticky with private insurance. Not sure what my DH's even pays for. Medicare is easy/peasy.

I hope you diluted the green tea oil with another oil before applying to the sensitive area. For ingrown hairs, I usually try to pull them. The tricky part is to break the skin to get to the hair. I have never had ingrown hair in the garden...well, not that I know of. How can you tell unless it is mowed? Not that exotic (yet). Maybe I should put a warning prior to writing this huh?...but I am speaking in code. Hopefully, no one will be offended. Be careful though because you don't need an infection. Hey, best wishes on your last round.

Man you know it's hot in Texas. We just got issued an emergency electric conservation alert for this afternoon. That means threat for rolling blackouts which I don't remember for about 5 years and that was for snowy cold weather. Guess no more laundry here today.

That's better. Hoohahs. aka vulva's. Tub bath or sitz soaks  1/2 hour plus or minus. Cider or white vinegar will act as a drawing agent. saved my vulva, oops hoohah. Tub 1-2 cups. Sitz 1/2 cup-1 cup. Warm water. Hot water is okay for some, but can promote histamine release which increase itching. Consider dermatologist or gyn visit if not relieved within a few days. Everything Littlegoats said.

Dying at home conceptually nice thought. The bad memories are real. They're is a thing called pre-terminal agitation. Never heard of it till the day My Greg passed. It was awful. The hospice staff had a bad case of it about two years before DH. They developed a policy that allowed the primary nurse to call in more staff. For hours that day, they're were 2 nurses and 1 aid here. I'm a nurse. His scenario was unusual, I'll leave it at that. In a do over, I would not have done it at home. That room is not my warm fuzzy place to be now or ever. If I were rich I'd move. Please, don't suggest that all that could have been done wasn't. This state pre-terminal agitation is unpredictable. Yes, if it could have been predicted then some other things could have been done. 40 years, I never saw anything as bad. Until that day, I was a supporter of dying at home as a natural end to life.

Yup Sassy a good continuous care nurse earns her salary for sure. The last co I worked for contracted it out and was sure happy to see some repeat nurses. The 1st co had nurse aides during the day and LVN at night, meaning family more present during the day and sleeping more during the night. It worked for them but it was a very rural hospice. The medical director I worked with the most would give us most anything we asked for at that time. I remember only one case of terminal reslessness and had another nurse present all night with the LVN - the rural co. That's when the hospice nurse better have her meds stocked!! The rural co. had it's own contract pharmacy - unique I think. Hated to call our pharmacist out but did if I had to. Much better to have to waste stuff than wish you had it at 3 am. I did that with one guy. His pulm doc had a thing for morphine - hated it actually and put the fear of God in his pts for using it. Can't remember if it was sublingual or inhaled - think it was the inhaled. At 3 am I said we're unwrapping this and using it right now! He passed peacefully a couple of days later. Hate to think what it would have been without the MS.

I can think of only 4 companies in Ft Worth with inpt units. One is free standing not sure of its origin, one is located in an under used Alz. facility and also has a hospice house in southern part of co, another is Baylor aff. and last is a specially built facility that I would have loved to have worked at but way too far away. And most of these are for those last few days only. Sent many to the Alz. facility knowing they would have to eventually make other arrangements for a bit.
