INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Junie, my stuff is quiet too!, but considering my hearing loss that's not saying much. Junie are you using hand commands with him too? there are regular hand commands, but what ever you use on a consistent basis will work.
Reminds me of a story. I would train my dogs to poop and pee on command. i.e pee and poop. Met a women who used a phrase I now forget, but it was simple like anything to not use the words poop or pee. Me walking around saying "Go poop" or "Go pee" loudly isn't dignified. It's true dogs have a vocabulary response to a couple hundred words. Maybe in the future I will say. "Come along now" for poop, and "Smell the roses, honey" for pee. Could be anything.

Queenie, Onion casserole---------going to find the recipe. It's divine. Likely the same as yours. Haven't done it for years
-
Queenie I found it
4 med onions.......................1/4 tsp oregano
3 Tbl butter...........................1/4 tsp basil
2 Tbl flour.............................1/4 tsp thyme
1 cup beef broth....................2 cloves garlic
1/4 cup sherry or...................1/4 cup shredded swiss
1/2 cup dry white wine...........2 Tbl grated parmesan
Cook onions in either butter or olive oil until tender. Add flour & beef broth & sherry or wine. Cook until thick and bubbly. Put in casserole( 1 quart) and chill. Remove to come to room temperature. Bake covered in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes after topping with croutons and cheese. Spices can be added or not depending on taste
Queenie I hadn't thought about this recipe in years. It is best used with beef. Perfect for Thursday. It's a thing that can be made ahead, with the oven thing done the day of. It is divine with beef. Like French onion soup that is thickened. Hmmm consider marjoram as another spice. Substitute it for the oregano.

Queenie, The onion casserole used to be one of Greg's and mines favorites. It was lost in the troubled times. Whohehhh, you brought it back
I'll let you know how it turns out
Not sure where the recipe came from, but it's in the book with the hand written ones that has all our favorite recipes, that is so thick that it has to have two rubber bands to hold it together. You know that book Hahaha
-
Sassy: very similar to my recipe--mine uses pearl onions rather than chopped "grownup" onions--but as far as taste goes, they'd be interchangeable. This came up because we've been invited to a friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner and wanted to bring something; DH suggested creamed onions, and the friend took us up on it. I quite like yours, for the "make-ahead" aspect: I may suggest this variant to my husband, so we're not juggling a hot casserole dish/worrying about whether it'll still be hot when everyone eats/food safety/blah blah blah.
And yes, we all have that cookbook, the one that's interleaved with handwritten recipes, and now has to be held together with rubber bands. My mother's favorite birthday cake was a marbled chocolate/cinnamon/plain pound cake which she called "David's Chocolate Cake", because that's who she'd gotten it from. Presumably, David called it "someone else's chocolate cake", and there are others who call it "Lydia's Chocolate Cake".

It was a delicious birthday cake.

All the talk about food makes me feel hungry. Oh wait, I haven't had breakfast yet. I have been so confused the last few days. Getting my days of the week mixed up. Kids are out for the holiday and it throws my schedule of wack. This week is my short work week. Got up early to take DD2 to swim practice. Before we left I told DD2 to unlock the side gate for the gardener. Her response was "Mom today is Wednesday not Saturday". Had to laugh at myself for running ahead of the week and skipping Thanksgiving and Black Friday!
Ms. S, the grand nephew is adorable!! I miss that stage minus the sleep deprivation and the pain of nursing.
Kath, I am sorry to hear about DD's infertility
. I have a friend who is the same age as me who has been trying for years. IVF failed. Found out she has incompetent cervix and a weird shape uterus. They have frozen embryos. Just need to find a surrogate mom. Wish I were younger so I could gift them. Loving couples. Not fair.
Junieb, that picture of Kirby sleeping on his back made me laugh. One of my sisters' dog sleeps the same way.
ShepK, you surprised me with your knowledge of computers.
MammaRay, rejoicing with you for finding the pleasure in simple things of life. Continue to.....
So grateful we were able to open our home to DD's friend whom she met last year at the University. Her friend is driving home for Thanksgiving by herself from LA to Oregon and just needed a place to rest/sleep. Wish we had more time to chat.
Waving hi to the rest of my Sisters.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
-
Hubby and the "kiddos" are in a turkey coma! Just relaxing a bit before I start on the cleanup. So stuffed from all the good food.
-
Me too! clean up done mostly. One load in the DW. Second on the counter. Wheeehee, I can feel the pain acoming , coming round the bend, don't know if I'll make it through again, just know that I would do it again, thinking the ride is always good, and the bed will be a blessing.
-
Food all put away, clean up done and now hubby and I are enjoying dessert and watching football.
-
Hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving. It was nice not to cook! We got to see Harrison, they did come and I got to hold him. He’s got big feet and hands. Really long toes. But for being a nine lb kid, he doesn’t seem big when you hold him. He pretty much slept the whole time.
Anybody shopping?
-
Smrarty thinking computer.
But got interested in the wine glass I was drinking from. ................
-
Morning all!
Ugh, my birthday is tomorrow!
-
AH Mommy every birthday is worth celebrating. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow. Hope the sun shines!
-
Sas - love that dogs are invited to your dinner. Danny Boy was so excited about the turkey yesterday, it is one of his words. He is excited today too, leftovers. We played Rummy, had a good time talking and cooking. I felt generally better than previous weeks, since off Xeloda for two days as of yesterday. No, my DD and I talk on FB chat everyday. She isn't set up for Skype yet. Something happened to their computer too, so she is using her cell I think. She begins work on 29th, two 12-hour shifts a week as a caregiver for the elderly or hospice. She is very happy with that, good company to have her foot in the door. Her DH will transfer to that company soon. He does the same, only for mentally challenged / disabled. Oh, an I love creamed corn. I would miss it too.
Hope all holidays were lovely in some way. Mine was and very relaxing. I never get enough rest before I see my DS so yesterday I went to bed at 2am once I could handle it, slept until she was coming up the driveway at 11, dressed quickly and we started cooking. That really helped. I knew my limitations and stuck to it.
