Patty - AllRecipes is one of my favorite sources. The recipe reviews are good too and usually trustworthy but use your judgment. About handling raw meat - get you some disposable gloves. WallyWorld has them, CVS, Walgreens. I bought a couple of boxes from Amazon. I needed one size both DH and I could wear so I bought 2 diff. brands. Think both are OK, size medium. Not like they have to be sterile haha or that you would need a bunch. This is the venison link at allrecipes.com

    http://allrecipes.com/recipes/667/meat-and-poultry...

Love you bunches Sassy. You did what you could do at the time. You were there for Greg. Please stop second guessing yourself. I do the same with my DM. But I can't go back only forward. You have been such a blessing to so many here. How's dinner partay preps coming?

We are both wiped out. DH got off at 4:30 am, home by 5:30. Had some hot choc and went to bed. I crashed on the couch for about 2 hours. Then we got up and fed the goats. He's back asleep on the couch. Hope there's no more inventory days until next year. He's full time so it's pretty much required he be there. Store is full of part timers who I guess are running the show today. I'm being particularly lazy and quiet to not disturb him. Need to thaw out meat for Taco Tuesday.

    lol.

I love it ! Dh and ds2 does also. But ds1 thinks it is the worst possible thing ever, lol. I always give him the option of eating his daily recommended amount of fruits and veggies but he puts it off. Teenagers. You can put choose to put mostly or all fruits in it to be super sweet but we like - and we think we get the most benefit from - 50%-70% preferably greens or carrots then 30%-50% fruit. We always have fresh fruit but I also like the big bags from sams club of all varieties if frozen fruit combos at a great price. For best consistency always use either s banana. Or avocados. Or coconut oil, with each mix.

Patty, We don't eat meat but do eat chicken and fish. A friend brought back some salmon jerky from Alaska. Wow, that was really good. Most cured things are way too salty for my high BP diet. DIL has a juicer and gave us a sample. It wasn't bad. I'm not sure I would use one enough to make it worthwhile.

Patty- I juice! Well, I try to at least. Apples and carrots mostly, depends on what else is available. Sometimes I just order a juice drink at my fav health food store.

I am also a big fan of wheat grass!

I was used to the men in the family always hunting, and bringing the game home, hanging it, and then cutting it up and grinding into hamburger...

The MOST fun was when they went hunting, us girls would go out dancing and drinking! It's like While the Cat's away, the Mice will PLAY! I mean literally!

Didn't think anything about it at the time.... And BIL did work at a game processing place, always gave us more Venison or Elk.... I really liked the meat.... but don't care for it now.... and not into hunting! I just feel sorry for the animals.... And I won't fish either.... I remember Janie and I catching fish and hurrying to get the hook out to throw them back in! I became such a sissy!

Then Sheri got me a Nutribullet... Finally gave it to Janie after using it a few times... I LOVE lots of fruits and fresh Veggies.... And for a snack, I mix goat-cheese with steak-seasoning, a T of Hemp seeds, T. of Chia, T. of Flax & Sesame seeds.... put it on those Mary's Gone Crackers, and that's good for you too! Well it TASTES so good anyway.

    Hey everyone,

Sorry haven't been on in a while. Well since the last time I posted back in October nothing has been done, however I do have a diagnostic mammogram tomorrow. I was scheduled to have surgery the first Monday in November but had issues with the surgeon. I called her office on Friday before to find out about taking my medications, she was out so the secretary contacted her. The secretary called me back and told me what the surgeon said and it didn't make since. See my surgeon gave me Valium to take just morning of so I needed to know if I took my regular medicine, she told the secretary for me to take the Valium as normal up to 12 hrs before which was wrong because I only had one pill. So I told the secretary to have the surgeon call me so we could go over it, she said ok and I would receive a call before five. At 4:50pm I called the office the secretary said the surgeon told her she was going to call me and figured she already had and assured me she will before Monday. I never heard anything from her before Monday so I didn't go in for surgery. On Wednesday the surgeon finally called to tell me she was sorry because she forgot. Needless to say she is no longer my surgeon, so now I just don't have a surgeon for now. I will be given my results tomorrow right after the diagnostic mammogram so will be sure and let you all know. If all is the same as last time they are not planning on doing anything until next July when I have a yearly mammogram. I still have swelling but have gotten use to it and the pain, I think I am allergic to something both breasts now have sores like blisters almost and a rash it's no longer just the left side. Well thought I would check in sorry such s long post. Hope you all are doing well and many blessings to you all.

Have not tried deer. Does it have a strong smell? Salmon candy from Canada is amazing.

Venison has it's "own" taste.... but it is really good for you..... I used to flour the steaks and fry them until browned.... A lot more tender than beef now-a-days...

Hello Boyd! Wondered what happened to you..... I would have dropped that whole team like a hot-potato! That's excusable for anyone in the Medical profession to use that excuse....

I don't think I would wait until July either..... I would find somewhere else to go, if possible! You need answers.... Do you live in a small town?

Loverly.... those animals screaming is hysterical!

Thanks friends, sweet thoughts and you're right. It's the anniversary. Haven't thought about that stuff forever so long. Put it back on the '"shelf".

Kicked it into high gear, got a call from my friend around 4. His wife is in the hospital. Respiratory bug. She went into ER this morning. Hoping it doesn't get much worse. Hugs Donnie is making dinner. :)

sas. Yes. Nice job Donnie. You need some um. Distrasction

a friend had told me when I lsy the deer meat out from freezer to let it defrost and stay in fridge 3-5 days to let most of the blood to drain out. Then add garlic and I have never had that wild gamey taste.

Chevy. Too miserable to get too wild while they go hunting. But the boys and I enjoy some time alone. Sometime apart occasionally has to be good for most couples . your snack sounds yummy.

Well the dinner was delicious ! A def do again ! Yum yum only problem was that the bacon wasn't getting crisp in the oven so I put in in the broiler the last 5-10 minutes. Bacon was great but meat got a little dry. Oh well. They are it up.

Now drooling hopelessly for venison. Which I like. Along with mutton. Go figure.

And (shyly) trying to be there for Sas. Because she's been there for me and a lot of people. Only I'm feeling kinda like the pre-schooler who's standing there anxiously with a fistful of squashed and wilting dandelions, because I wasn't there for the backstory.

ive spent hours making valentine plans today. Not finished yet. Decided to get friend to stay here with the boys and dogs while dh and I escape for s weekend. My back keeps us from driving too far or doing too much when we get there. Was gonna surprise dh but his work schedule is so busy I didn't want him to be working then. So I gave him a heads up. We WILL be gone valentines weekend. Leave all the other details to me. He just needs to pack clean undies. And I'll pack lingerie. Several places we can go to 1 - 1 1\2 hours away. Just have to decide small country stuff or big city - memphis tn less then an hour away - honeymoon suite hotel or cabin with fireplace. Hmmm. Seen a nice rustic cabin with a fireplace and also a jacuzzi outside on the deck. Def don't want s bed and breakfast. Don't wanna share a bathroom and really prefer privacy. Have to decide cabin with kitchen and take groceries or just be lazy and eat out all meals. Generally I am pretty picky about who handle my food so probably take easy fixin meals. Besides I like cooking with dh. Maybe use the grill and take some corona snd lime. Strawberries and chocolate. Yum yum. It's been like forever since we've done something for valentines. Always was busy working , didn't want to leave dss with babysitter, thought next year. Well dang it....NOWS the time. We both need a break and need some alone adult time. Any suggestions ? Anyone else making plans ? So excited. !!! Woo hoo. Thinking back its probably been 3 years since we've left the kids for a weekend.

Bbl. Off to search some more.

Chevyboy I do live in a small town, my primary doctor right now isn't a doctor, he is a nurse practitioner. He will send me to any surgeon I ask though, have a lot going on here so this has taken a back seat. The surgeons office who I've had actually called me today because I was originally suppose to see her after mammogram to go over options, she set my mammogram up. I told her secretary on Friday that I didn't want to see her but today they tried to get me to keep my appointment. They were okay with me finding a new one when I told them I was still having the diagonals tic mammogram., she seemed relieved. What gets me is that they act like its no concern and than sometimes that fact like it is. I have had a breast mri which apparently wasn't too concerning because even though she scheduled my surgery after it, it must have not been that important. Hopefully I will find out more tomorrow and I will let you know.

    Thanks everyone goodnight,

Oh Peppermint! I'm so excited! And don't forget to dig out those stocking with seams to take along with your high-heels! Meaning a garter-belt is a necessity..... Do they still make those?

Yes, a cute little Teddy is required ..... You can also find a cassette or CD player, and take along your favorite music! I did that a few times!

We all need a break like that once in awhile.... Food is unimportant.

Loverly..... oh no! We don't "eat" goats or rabbits anymore....or things..... I just can't....

Boyd, you just need a plan.... and someone who will put it together, and set it up, and work with you... No-one is taking charge, it sounds like...... They just have to say .... "Your tests are scheduled for this day, and then we'll take it from there, and if you need surgery, we can schedule that right after the results."

Don't let them tell you.... "go home and take 2 aspirin, and never call me again." Sometimes you just have to shake it up a little...

JazzyJ...! Okay, now I won't be confusing you with just Jazzy.... So how have you been? How have I missed you this long? You have been with us since November? And what's your story.....? We must know the details if I am going to take care of you, like we all take care of each other here. It's in your bones?????????? Oh !@#$%^&*(! !!! And DAMMIT! You need special attention.... I will fix you milk-toast and chocolate cokes! And you'll be fixed right up!

Boyd, from what I can figure out, and my extensive research into this "blisters on my boob" problem, I have come to the conclusion that the blisters are the result of either a heat rash thing, or irritation from wearing something either too tight or too rough on your skin... Now my medical back-ground includes a semester of "Health" in high-school... So I know what I am talking about....

THAT, and raising 2 girls and a Husband, and going through all KINDS of stuff. So get your results back, make them give you copies, and don't wait until July to get something done.... If the results show you don't have breast cancer, then they will not do surgery.... but if you do, they should take care of you without giving you the run-around.

chevy. Thanks for straightening that out for Boyd. That's what I like about you. You get to the core truth quickly. Yes. Can't forget music. Probably take an acoustical guitar of dh's for him to pick a little. He used to play and write songs but he has been so busy doing way way more then his share. Would be relaxing for both of us. And even good on my back cause we can sit anywhere. So excited.

Sas. Hope you are up and about in better spirits today.

Queenie, hugs thanks. I'm good to go again. It's back up on the shelf.

Patty, that sounds fun YAY for fun. I have this Hunter's sauce. It's stronger taste than gravy. No idea if it's made for venison. 3-6 ozs or fresh sliced mushrooms, 1 shallot finely chopped (substitute about an 1-2 oz of yellow onion).,4 tablespoons butter, 1 envelope brown gravy(Knorrs), 1 cup water, 1/4 to 1/2 cup dry red wine, 1 tablespoon tomato paste, 3/4 tsp Fines herbs. The more wine you use the stronger the flavor. I penned in 1/4 cup after the first time making it.

Cook shallots and mushrooms in butter until tender not browned. Blend in gravy mix, water, wine, tomato paste and Fines herbs. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Let simmer for about 15 minutes. Yield 1 3/4 cups. I always doubled the recipe.

Fines herbs can be hard to find. You can make by it with fresh herbs. Many recipes on the internet.

Yes, distraction was had and enjoyed. I get distracted as much as possible.

Patty, This is a nice Fines herbs recipe. It allows for substitutions. I like that. Plus, it makes more suggestions of things to use it in.

Ms. Sas, good you are up and running. Nothing is wrong with grieving though. I am happy you can look forward to a good distraction today Only best wishes..
